I found this to be a great resource for women who are serving in ministry in any capacity. The book has very good information on how to practically help women as they struggle with many different life circumstances, from homelessness to sexual abuse to divorce. Each section has a "Do" and "Don't" list, which I personally found very helpful and informative. It is a well-researched book with many practical ways to be the hands and feet of Jesus to women who are hurting as you come alongside them in their pain.

This has to be one of the most deep and well-written books I have read. Every section tugged powerfully at my heart. It made me want to cultivate a life that nurtures and heals those around me. I highly recommend it.

I thought this book was such a great resource for small group leaders and women in ministry! I wouldn’t say it is for the average Christian women such as myself, but because I now have a copy it is something I would go back and use if I found myself needing help walking alongside a women who is in a tough season.

I appreciated the first section of the book that covered what a women in pain should know because these were easy tips that would be useful to anyone. Overall it was a well-written book both by the author and contributors.

Still working through, much psychology based, but includes stories and real life situations worth reflecting on.

I would recommend this book for women and men. It is very helpful in understanding hurting women and their needs. I believe women can most effectively help women, however, often men find themselves in this position and this book would be very helpful for them.
I received this book free from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review.

## Shepherding Women in Pain

I am reviewing a copy of Shepherding Women in Pain through Moody Publishers and Netgalley:

Sadly deeper emotional scars are often hidden from family and friends.

Bev Hishlop reminds us that loss is loss, whatever the circumstances. She points out that all losses are bad, but they are all bad in different ways. We are reminded too that no two loses are ever the same.

We are reminded too that the result of not feeling physical pain can be self destruction. Hishlop goes on to point out that pain is the gift no one wants, but none of us can do without. It is pointed out that the ability to feel physical pain actually is a God-given means of preserving life.

We are reminded too that Forgiveness should not be confused with reconciliation. It is reminded too that forgiveness is best understood as a process, a process that takes time. It is pointed out too that being able to forgive is a sign of strength, not of weakness.

This book covers everything from Physical Abuse, Disability, Grief Loss, eating disorders, infertility have all become part of a day's work for women and men in ministry to women. Despite this though many are not prepared to deal with these issues.

This book is a great resource one that is designed to give leaders and care givers greater understanding, insights for shepherding, and referral resources, Shepherding Women in Pain is a compilation from contributors who have expertise and experience with women on the given issue.

I give Shepherding Women in Pain five out five stars!

Happy Reading!

As a woman I pain and a leader of women this has been a helpful book that I know I will return to frequently. There were some chapters that had me in tears as God took me personally a step further on my healing journey. It has been an encouragement to me to press in to what God is showing me and seek his will in my healing and as I help others

Wow! This book is amazing. Filled with tons of helpful information on a list of situations women have faced, may face or are currently facing in their life. It includes do’s and don’ts for each situation. It’s definitely one of the best shepherding resources for women that I have ever read. I highly recommend this book.

Beverly Hislop's book Shepherding Women in Pain provides an excellent guide for women and even pastors on how to help women process their pain in healthy ways. Hislop provides a balance of wisdom on how women's ministers and mentors can walk with women while directing them to profession help when necessary. Biblically focused and centered on healing the whole person, Hislop gives great counsel to women trying to help other women experiencing various kinds of pain. While Hislop provides an overview, she also draws from the wise counsel of other women in ministry on how to help women in specific situations--divorce, abortion, abuse, and so on. Overall, this is a great guide for anyone wishing to better offer hope and healing to women. Shepherding Women in Pain is definitely a book I'll come back to again and again as I seek to process some of my own pain and as I walk with other women in my life through their pain.

Note: I received a copy of the book from the publisher in exchange for this honest review. The opinions expressed are my own.
