What I liked most about the book is how Richardson moves beyond just theory and dives into actionable strategies. She provides practical advice for implementing ethical frameworks without sacrificing business growth, which I found especially relevant in today’s market where consumers are increasingly holding companies accountable. Ethical Profit offers a refreshing perspective on how to lead with purpose while still driving success, making it a must-read for anyone looking to build a business that’s not only profitable but principled.
A bit lightweight - I’d hoped for more unique perspectives/ independent research. A shame as it’s an important topic.
Ethical Profit focuses on the small but impactful ways that entrepreneurs and small business owners can be sustainable. The author does a good job of providing questions and issues to consider when greening operations that can be implemented by companies and individuals. She references several widely available reference material like TED talks that would enrich the readers understanding. Nonetheless, some of the content was a bit repetitive like the content on energy efficiency could have been mentioned once instead of thrice.
Ethical Profit would be great for beginners to sustainability who are not sure where to start with making changes in their lives and careers.
Slightly simplistic take on an extremely interesting and important topic. This was, in my opinion, an opportunity wasted.
It’s important that companies manage to change the way that they work to consider the impact they have on the Environment.
There are some practical tips for organisations beginning their journey into practical ways of reducing the impact their companies have on the environment. However useful the book is, frustratingly loses a couple of stars from me for being too timid. Many companies will have implemented the ideas as cost saving measures rather than as a challenge to tackle the environment. Be bolder. Demonstrate how companies can motivate employees to make a change. Felt a little flat and I skimmed through many chapters trying to find something I could take back to my workplace.
Layout improvements are on their way in the ‘published’ book, so I won’t comment on the layout.
Now more than ever, there is the need to produce sustainable products and any business that wants to chart this course could learn one or two tips from this book, especially start ups. I love how simple the language of writing in this book is. It makes for easier reading and of course, if you've been online, or watched news- whatever the author shares is nothing new, it however goes a step ahead to offer insights of how to go about creating sustainable products ethically while focusing on making profit.
I did not find the book's layout friendly and this being an Advance Reader's Copy, I hope the publisher would improve on the formatting.
Thanks Netgalley for the eARC.
An important book for our times. Business should, of course, strive toward increased profits, but this shouldn't come at the expense of sustainability and ethics. Given the important message of this book, I really wish it had a better layout design. As it stands, it is not easy to get through, and only the most committed of readers will put the time and effort to get through. But these committed readers aren't the ones that this message needs to reach.
Thanks to NetGalley for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
