3 5 - this is well-written and an interesting look at family dynamics, the long-term effects of the choices we make, etc. I liked seeing the POVs of all the people involved. The Mistress was the least interesting, but I really enjoyed her family, so that made up for it a bit.
I've been approved from many Danielle Steele books, and I am rarely left disappointed. I love a good story about a woman finding herself when her marriage falls apart. This book is told from many different perspectives - all people who feel they have first-hand accounts of what caused the deterioration of the marriage. This was an enjoyable read that left me ruminating for days after.
Yet another great novel by one of the best in the industry - idk how she does it, over and over again, but here we are with another all-star book..
This story takes us on a journey into the middle-age almost mid-life crisis of "what have I actually ever done in my life for just me??" - Mom version, and the results of it. The kids are grown, the man is a selfish cheater, and the mom is almost 40 so she's has had enough. That's it, no more! Time for her to stop putting her wants and needs on hold and just go for it! Go all in!! The results will make any one in a similar situation keep a grin on their face 😉😁👍 #momLife #midLifeCrisis #donetheRightWay
Thanks netgalley for giving me the pdf so that I can share my thoughts and opinions with y'all 🧡
Danielle Steele is an all time favorite author because she truly has a knack for creating and developing truly relatable characters, and plots that readers relate to. At different points in time, we find ourselves in different situations. In DS’s latest book, Eileen finds out that her spouse of many many years has cheated on her, and she decides that it is her time in life to focus on herself and her needs, wants, and wishes for the happiest and best life ahead, and sets forward to achieve her goals. DS teaches wonderful life lessons in her books and weaves an uplifting story that will stay with the reader long after the book ends.
Just when I think there can't be another book I love more than the last of Ms. Steel's and here I am!! Another amazing book with such a heartfelt and perfectly written novel!! A must read !
I can always count on Danielle Steel for a good, soap opera-ish, unputdownable novel. The Numbers Game is no exception. I loved this book. I think so many of us women who are middle aged can either relate either by first hand knowledge or we've had a friend who has been through a divorce due to another woman. With that being said, I really liked Eileen. She forged her own path and didn't give up after life threw her a curveball. I also really liked Gwen and Gabrielle. They are strong, independent women as well. I enjoy the soap opera like tendencies that Danielle Steel's books have. Her books will take an element of real life but things always work out for the characters in a way that wouldn't always necessarily happen in real life. But, that's why I love her novels so much! Thank you to Netgalley and Random House Publishing Group for the copy. All opinions expressed are my own.
Oh my gosh, I don't know how Danielle Steel does it but she keeps writing amazing books over and over. While each of her books is different in some way they all seem to be written the same. This can be both good and bad. The Numbers Game is no different that takes us into the lives of a well to do family.
Danielle Steele doesn't disappoint. She has the unique ability to let us have a glimpse into other people's lives even though it's fiction. Her books describe and illustrate the tragedies we experience in life as well as the good times that follow. I have read her books 30 years starting in high school. A teacher encouraged me to read Thurston House, and I've been hooked since. This book is definitely on my list of must read for 2020, and I'm sure I'll enjoy reading it many times.
Enjoyed yet another wonderful story by a favorite author. Keep ‘em coming! Her plots are so good. Her books are a way to disconnect and read a book
The Numbers Game by Danielle Steel is another page turner. While this has a bit of a different spin than many of her novels, it was also a bit shorter than her previous books, it was a delightful read. This is a more realistic take on family dynamics with more than one relationship at the heart of the story line. The characters were well developed, and the relationship dynamics felt like they could be from anyone’s family. Danielle Steel is my go-to quiet afternoon by the lake read and always enjoyable. I would recommend this book for a quick, engrossing, pleasurable few hours.
Another tale of the elite and their midlife crisis, Danielle Steel style. What made this book interesting for me were the characters, Pennie,Eileen,Olivia,Gwen and Gabrielle. Each of these women face their own struggles and manage to land on their feet, The modern day fairytale. While some of these situations were predictable, I really liked how they were tied together. A good rainy day/beach read. I was given a copy of this from # netgalley for my honest review. #thenumbersgame
3 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Danielle Steel has been one of my guilty pleasure authors for years. Her books are awesome if you need a break - like I do - from all of the thrillers and psychopaths I normally love.
Like most of Steel’s books, this one is all about relationships, family dynamics, changes and heartbreak. A mother and wife - who is only 40 years old, but has been married for 20 years - is trying to find her place in life, but still hold her family together. A daughter going off to college and a cheating husband with a 27 year old mistress is only adding to her stress.
Now, I can handle some cheesiness - and I expect it when reading her books, but this one piled on the cheese factor a bit more than usual for me. I also was not interested in the mistress’s storyline - it was boring and irrelevant in my opinion.
I think Steel fans would enjoy this one and find it easy to read. It just wasn’t awesome for me.
Thank you to NetGalley, Random House Ballantine and Danielle Steel for the advanced copy to read and review.
Quintessential Danielle Steel, The Numbers Game will feel like a familiar friend if you're an avid Steel reader. Wealthy, affluent Greenwich CT sets the stage as we meet Eileen and Paul, a couple in their late 30s and early 40s who got married due to an unplanned pregnancy. Shockingly, their marriage has lost its connection and Eileen is stunned by Paul's affair with a gorgeous younger woman. While we have read this story many times there are some interesting subplots and characters that readers will find engaging-in particularly the minor characters related to Paul's girlfriend are more dynamic than some of the main characters. A story about age just being a number this is a pretty quick read that may have actually been stronger if it was one of Steel's shorter stories.
Thank you to the writer, publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest feedback.
Coming off the heels of The Wedding Dress, I had pretty high expectations for The Numbers Game. Danielle Steel always takes her readers on memorable journeys and with its intriguing title, I was looking forward to an interesting little escape. Unfortunately I couldn't escape the bitterness that seeps through Eileen and Paul's story and overall their path felt a little over the top cliche - even the opposite of an escape. It simply seemed like the tale of a friend/neighbor's less than perfect marriage, and the only glamour was the lifestyle of Olivia the homewrecker (and no women I know want to think about all the perks of being a young and beautiful mistress). That being said, I flew through it, rooting for Eileen and I know my next Danielle Steel read will be exactly what I need. Thank you to #netgalley for the opportunity to preview #thenumbersgame by Danielle Steel.
Loved the family dynamic plot of this book. A quick read, with an interesting storyline to keep you hooked.

Y'all already know how I feel about Ms. Steel, because I've mentioned it a few times before. Her books are ALWAYS a treat for me, and The Numbers Game was no exception. This book focuses on two characters, Eileen and Olivia. Olivia is having an affair with Eileen's husband. "Numbers Game" uses the alternating points of view between the two women to show how the affair manages to change both of their lives.
This was a typical DS book. There's infidelity, rich, gorgeous men,all of the main female characters are beautiful, and there's a happy ending for everyone involved. Once again, it didn't take me very long to read (finished it within three hours) and it left me with one of those warm fuzzy types of feelings. It's a palate cleanser after the thrill that was Good Girls Lie, and I needed that. It's hard to find things to say about Steel's books. I feel like she's been writing the same story since the 80s, and while they're not bad, they're just... there.
I found this book to be very much typical of the Danielle Steel that my grandma would read. The lovers quarrel stories that she loved so much. It is very well written and the characters are very much to this trope. Eileen is forty and finds out that her husband Paul has been having affairs with a much younger woman in the city where he works. She decides that she will not take this and she wants to start her life over and decides that it’s his turn to raise the kids and she’s going to start her life over and follow her dreams for once. She moves to Paris and enrolls in cooking school and pushes herself to be happy. She realizes that her age doesn’t matter to follow her goals. Olivia is Paul’s mistress and he wants her to come be with him and she doesn’t know if she really wants that lifestyle or wife and step mom and if she wants to just give up her dreams for a man. An older man at that and what if he does the same to her. This story is about overcoming your age and situations to follow your dreams and happiness.
In the Numbers Game by Danielle Steel she gives us a story about love, family, choices, love and second chances. Truly what she is best at. We follow a family that is about to have their life altered and how they begin to live in their new normal. Paul and Eileen have been married for years. She thought happily enough, but when she discovers Paul’s secret, everything is about to change. I love that we get the full picture from every member of the family and those outside who are also affected as well. What follows is an emotional and heartwarming read.
Happy reading!
This is a typical Danielle Steel novel that deals with family conflict and resolutions. It is highly recommended for those readers who enjoy a quick and entertaining read. The transitions between characters is smooth and they are developed as the story unfolds.
The Numbers Game is yet another solid contemporary romance from the well known Danielle Steel. This book is one that follows several different characters, relationships and changes the point of view between them to give readers a look into all angles of those relationships.
The story begins with Eileen Jackson who is an ordinary wife and mother who has put her family first her whole marriage. Eileen was happy with how her life turned out until she finds out her husband, Paul, has been hiding an affair which makes Eileen question just what she gave up being the faithful wife.
After Eileen and Paul split up they both begin to go their own ways and follow the paths that seem right for them. Eileen decides to go back to school to take cooking lessons as she always wanted to become a chef all the while Paul finds the grass is not always greener on the other side.
Again, I must start with Danielle Steel’s novels have been one of those guilty pleasures for years for me so I always go in expecting to enjoy the story. Thankfully again The Numbers Game did not disappoint and I found myself easily caught up in the story and with the characters. The story flows easily from one character to the next and it’s great to see things from all sides as it expands to include more than the original couple. Definitely another I think long time fans and new fans alike will enjoy.
