Quick read but enjoyable! Story about the man who cheats on his wife and all the lives that are affected, some just a little and some a whole lot! Classic Danielle Steel novel, with a wonderful happily ever after!

This is my first time reading a Danielle Steel book and I was pleasantly surprised. I found it to be a super easy read, easy plot line to follow even thought the characters kept changing, and a satisfying ending.
This book follows Eileen and her husband Paul. Back when they were in their 20s, Eileen got pregnant and Paul did the responsible thing. He married her and became a great provider while she cared for the baby. However, it isn't until their 17 year old gets pregnant that Paul truly reveals how bitter he is about the situation that he committed to so long ago. It finally comes out that Paul has been cheating and Eileen kicks him out wondering how long its been going on. The book follows their lives from this point forward, Eileen dealing with being a single mother, Paul and his life with his new girlfriend Olivia, and Olivia and her currently life. As worlds are shattered and sides are picked, you can't help but wonder was this for the best or a mistake that can't be taken back.
It has been a while since I have read a book by Danielle Steel and, as always, it is amazing. In the past 2 years I have focused on ARC books for relatively new authors and have missed the quality of writing from an author of this caliber.
The Numbers Game is a novel filled with characters who cross paths one summer and the ensuing year. Paul and Eileen are parents to 3 children and find themselves in a stale marriage. The cracks in their relationship become evident when their only daughter faces an unexpected crisis leading Paul to see himself trapped in a boring life. Eileen is the stereotypical Greenwich, Connecticut surburban housewife who is busy in her role as wife and mother. Olivia is a twenty-seven year old ambitious art dealer whose mother is a famous actress and a grandmother who is a world renowned artist. She finds her life becoming complicated when she gets involved with Paul. Each of these individuals will find themselves on a path of their own choosing, some of which will have far-reaching consequences.
Ultimately, this novel is about the perception of age and these characters will find that age is, in fact, just a numbers game.
The Numbers Game is my favorite type of book from this author as it is about relationships. And what is special about this book is that it is a multi-generational story – the “numbers” in the title refer to people’s ages. The center of the story is a couple with school age children – the marriage has not provided this seemingly happy couple with the type of deep love they each yearn for. They have settled in their aspirations. Their 17-year old daughter is maturing fast and is working to handle the ups and downs of first-love. There are characters we meet who are up to 93 years of age. Each one is seeking fulfilling relationships yet mistakes are made along the way. There are no great surprises here. But this is a nice, light read that reaffirms that age is just a number and that everyone should strive for love and happiness. It’s never too late. What a nice thought.
Many thanks to NetGalley, Random House – Ballantine and the incredible Ms. Steel for the opportunity to read this enjoyable book in advance. Keep ‘em coming!
I loved this story, great book! can not wait to read more of her stories..I received this copy from netgalley
Thank you Danielle Steel for giving us another great book!! Storytelling at its best!! I could not stop reading!!
Looking for a classic Danielle Steele? This is it. The title refers to the ages of the various women you'll meet. Eileen, whose husband Paul is cheating on her with Olivia, is trying to find herself while at the same time her 17 year old daughter Pennie is trying to figure out what to do about her unplanned pregnancy- so similar to her parents situation. Olivia is the least sympathetic of this group although you will feel with her about dealing with her family. Paul, well enough said about him. Thanks to negtalley for the ARC. You might recognize some of these characters but the story trips along nicely to a satisfying conclusion.
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
"At every age, there are challenges to be met and new worlds to discover. In this surprising, illuminating novel, Danielle Steel gives us a warm-hearted portrait of people driven by their emotions, life experiences, and loyalties, who realize that it’s never too late to turn a new page and start again." - Goodreads. Danielle Steel can make your tear ducts overflow with sadness or with happiness. This novel is stupendous! I highly recommend this book. Enjoy! 📚
When finding your husband cheating with a younger woman what can you do but reinvent your life. Great story from Danielle Steel about how things can change with your life no matter what your age.
The Numbers Game by Danielle Steel. I really liked this story. Is never too late to live your dreams. I loved the older couple in the story the way they held hands and the descriptions of how in love they were. This story is one of Danielle Steels best stories. Read it I think you will really like it.
Thank you net galley for an ARC of this book to read in exchange for an honest review.
Even though I could guess what would happen, I did enjoy it, not my favorite--but better than some. The characters were easy to relate to, some I liked (the grandmother), some I didn't (Penny's dad--whose name I can't remember). Overall, it was an interesting story. I liked that the story involved several generations and showed how life can change you and how people change because life happens.
Another great story of life, love and fulfillment by Danielle Steel.
Although the story is about one couple and their family as they deal with infidelity, it branches out to include characters related to them as their marriage unravels. As in her usual style, these characters come alive for the reader. You visualize the 93 year old welder/artist and her 84 year old partner who's a photographer. The couple facing divorce as the husband takes up with a 27 year old woman. It's a coming of age story for all characters, no matter their age!
I received a free ARC eBook from Net Galley and the publisher in exchange for my honest opinions.
Looks like Danielle Steel has another blockbuster book with The Numbers Game!
This book pulls you into the plot with every nerve and emotion that you have.
Mainly Paul and Eileen a suburban couple with 3 children begin to feel their marriage unravel after Paul feels trapped after "having to get married" with their daughter Penny on the way. He has never gotten over that life changing event.
Sadly Paul's story like many other men, they start to feel the mid-life crisis. He feels he was cheated out of his dream career, even though he was very successful and provided a decent living for his family..
One night Eileen smells perfume on his clothes after another late night at work.
Yes, it is true, he is seeing a young ravishing petite redhead named Olivia who makes him feel like he is young and alive again!
This story weaves through the ups and downs of this family, and how they each survive this major upset and even find some surprising new surprises along the way.
This book was well written with strong characters, and it was hard to put down.
Do yourself a favor and read this book as soon as you can.
I enjoyed every chapter!
Buy one for your best friend too!
The Numbers Game follows the life of several strong women who have to make some life-changing decisions. The women are realistic and realize how strong you must be. Danielle Steel delivers another great book.
Another story of a family's turmoil and how the women involved come out stronger for dealing with adversity. Eileen's adult life began with an unplanned pregnancy. While her life may not have been everything you could expect, she has been mostly happy. Then she finds her husband is having an affair and her 17yr old daughter is pregnant. Danielle Steel is famous for setting women into situations where they must choose the next steps in their lives. As Eileen struggles with her emotional choices, her husband's mistress must choose new directions too. You want to feel sympathy with these two ladies but you know they will triumph in the end...after all, that's what Danielle Steel is famous for too.
If you have not read a Danielle Steel this will be a great read for a family dynamic type novel, If you have read Danielle Steel, well you have probably read this one a few times. A cheating husband, the wife who he made strong, pregnant daughter and how they handle their situations. It got a 4 star for the ones who haven't read any of her works. A really quick read.
This was my first Danielle Steel book... and I was unfortunately disappointed. I expected some kind of emotional story, but ended up reading a cliche, that seemingly anyone could write. The narration made me feel very disconnected from the characters, which made me care a lot less about the story as a whole.
Thanks to NetGalley and Random House for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
The Numbers Game by Danielle Steele is one of those novels you can sink your teeth in to. What happens when forty is looking? You're in an unhappy marriage? Romance is dead. Your teenager is pregnant and all suddenly isn't right in your world. Dive in to not one but two families to learn that numbers/age do not define you. #netgalleyreview #arc #daniellesteele #bookreview
This was a very enjoyable read. It examines the family dynamics as it relates to age in an honest and open discussion. Relationships are difficult at any age, but these characters faced them the best way they knew how.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to review this ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was a quick read and could’ve been two separate books. Paul and Eileen got pregnant by accident while in college. They weren’t madly in love just dating and got married. They both resented each other and were just in survival mode instead of living. Predictably, 18 years later Paul cheats with a younger woman after he reveals his true feelings to Eileen when their 17 year old daughter does the exact same dumb mistake they did. Her circumstances turn out a bit differently than her parents but this book is more about the growth of her mother. Eileen essentially pulls her life together and realizes she’s taken care of everyone and now needs to take care of herself. Hear her roar kind of thing. It’s a book Danielle Steel has written a hundred times before.
There is another story of Paul’s girlfriend and her family which is more interesting than the main story. Her family are artists and have this amazing life going on. The girlfriend is a selfish self-centered 27 year old who can’t understand why Paul won’t put her before his kids. She kind of grows up over the year and meets her true love. Paul never seems to delve deeper to understand that his life is what he made it but he does meet a woman better suited to him after Eileen wouldn’t take him back.
Everyone ends up with an HEA the end. If you love Danielle Steel and want the same story then this is for you. This book didn’t move me to wonder what happened to these characters after the story ended. It was an ok book. I’d give it 3 stars. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
