This book is my favorite of the year. I was gripped from the first page until the last. I am not usually a thriller writer but Chavez' s piece left me breathless. I will recommend this to my book club and my cousins who read thrillers on vacation. An excellent pick for the cold winter months.
Wow! Such a great thriller! After reading the blurb for this book, I couldn't wait to dive in. This one had so many incredible twists and turns! I really enjoyed the characters and even though there were a lot, it was easy to keep up with.
This story was so well plotted that I couldn't figure out what was going to happen next. The author did an exceptional job keeping me on my toes.
What's even surprising was learning this was Heather Chavez's debut novel! Holy cow! I can't wait to read what she writes next!
Thank you for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
This book is a wild ride! I enjoyed that the action started from the very beginning, and it definitely got me turning the pages.
Even though it was full of action, I feel like SO MUCH happened. I felt like a week had gone by, but that wasn’t the case at all. It definitely was action packed, but I think it could have been a bit more condensed.
The ending was something that I wasn’t expecting at all, and I was totally surprised by it. I like to try and guess what’s going to happen, and I was way off the mark. Definitely a more original ending, for sure.
This is a hard one to review without giving too much away, so I’m going to keep it short. I did like that it was pretty fast paced and even when the plot seemed to drag a bit, the pace kept me reading. Small reveals came quickly and frequently and that also helped move the story along. That’s kind of the end of the good things I can say about No Bad Deed, though. Cassie was a confusing character. Nothing she did really made that much sense to me. One of my biggest pet peeves in this type of book is when the main character decides to investigate themselves and everything they do just makes them look guilty. There was a lot of that in this story and I found it frustrating. I also think the actual development of the mystery was kind of ridiculous. By the time we get to the reveal of who is behind everything and why, the only reaction I had was a hard eye roll. It was a promising premise, but I found the ending really underwhelming.
Overall Rating (out of 5): 2 Stars
Wow this book had me from the very beginning and I couldn't put it down. It took me less than 2 days to read and for a debut this was amazing. I'm looking forward to reading more books by Heather Chavez. Driving along the road only to witness a crime in progress. You get out to the help, save a life only to be targeted. This book will take you on a journey of determination and bravery. I highly recommend this book.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book and provide my honest review.
One night while driving home, Cassie Larkin, a dedicated veterinarian, spots a man attacking a woman and her immediate reaction is to intervene. The attacker threatens her for intervening before he flees the scene. When Cassie’s husband goes missing the next evening, she has no idea what is about to happen and this is where the story just went downhill. The husband abandons his daughter to a stranger but Cassie starts questioning her marriage?!. It kept me guessing but it was slow for the first 80% of the book. Cassie made some questionable and unbelievable moves. The reveal and ending were underwhelming. Thank you to NetGalley, Author and Publishers for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Cassie Larkin is on her way home from work on a rainy night when she sees a woman being attacked on the side of the road. Having stood by and watched harm come to a woman in a similar way in her past, Cassie decides to do something this time. In her effort to help, Cassie leaves her car with her keys and pocketbook inside and, somewhat accidentally, heads down to the woman and her attacker. When the attacker flees, he gets away in Cassie's car. Now he knows her name, her address, her family, and he has access to their home. Cassie's split-second decision to help may actually harm her and her family in ways she never imagined. This debut, which did not at all read like a debut, was a fast-paced thriller that had me on the edge of my seat, flipping pages on a race to the end. Can't wait to see what else this author has up her sleeve! Thank you to Netgalley, William Morrow & the author for my early copy.

In No Bad Deed, Cassie Larkin discovers a man and a woman fighting on the side of the road. Cassie intervenes to help save the woman, despite the mans threat to let the stranger die, or she will be the one to die. Her life takes a dangerous downward spiral from this moment on.
No Bad Deed is the debut novel by Heather Chavez. It was an action filled thriller that was full of suspense. The story pretty much takes off on page one and keeps the reader entertained until the end. I enjoyed the authors creativity with the ending and felt it was very strong.
Unfortunately, I had a hard time keeping track of all the side characters. I also didn’t really care for the main character or feel connected to her.
Thank you #netgalley and #harpercollins for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review
Pros: Decent story, fast-paced, mostly likable characters.
Cons: After about 1/2 way through the book, I didn't care anymore.
I hate being that person that doesn't like a book and, to be clear, I didn't NOT like this one. But it just wasn't the book for me.
No Bad Deed publishes 2.18.2020.
2.5/5 Stars
Heather Chavez’s debut novel No Bad Deed is a fast paced thriller in the vein of Harlan Coben that you will not want to put down. No Bad Deed grabbed me from the very first chapter and kept me reading late into the night.
When Cassie saves a stranger from a brutal attack she has no idea how that one courageous act will irrevocably change her life. The attacker’s words loom large in Cassie’s mind “let her die and I’ll let you live” and when her husband goes missing the very next day she cannot help but think the two events are connected l. The attacker, who stole her car and her wallet, knows her name and exactly where she lives, could it be that he got to her husband? Or was her husbands timing for leaving her and their kids coincidental? Now Cassie is in a race against time to save her husband and her children and nothing, absolutely nothing, will stand in her way.
No Bad Deed will keep you guessing from the very start. I don’t think that this is the kind of novel that you can easily “figure out”, and even when the pieces finally do begin to come together, they just leave you with more questions until the action packed conclusion.
Cassie Larkin is driving home from her veterinary office when she sees a man and woman fighting on the side of the road. She calls 911, and then gets out of her minivan and chases after the man, trying to help the victim. When Cassie physically tries to stop him, he turns on her and threatens “Let her die, and I’ll let you live.” Cassie can't let her die and he escapes in Cassie's minivan. Now he has her name, address, the names of her husband and children, all of her personal information. The next day is Halloween, and Cassie's husband disappears while trick-or-treating with their six-year-old daughter. Are these disturbing events a coincidence or the beginning of a horrifying nightmare?
I loved this book. It was one of those that I couldn't put down because I needed to keep going to find out what happened next. It was a roller coaster ride from start to finish. Definitely a must read for all suspense lovers.
Strong writing, excellent characters, great page-turner. Absolutely loved this book. Will definitely look for this author again.

If you’re looking for a fast-paced thriller that you won’t want to put down: this is it.
From the very beginning, it hooks you, and you’re in tow for a wild ride filled with bread crumbs, family dynamics, and high-speed chases across town.
While I didn’t feel the characters were particularly memorable (one of the reasons for my mixed feelings), I did think most of them felt real. I was rooting for Cassie & her family the whole time, and I felt her emotions vividly.
It was well-written (if a little far-etched). And it definitely keeps you guessing. Highly entertaining!
**Thank you to NetGalley and William Morrow for the review copy.
This is a very fast paced books with lots of twists and turns. There were some hard to believe decision making in this book. I recommend this book to readers who love a good complicated mystery
What can I say about this book? I was so engrossed in the story, I didn't want to work and read it during every break I had. I stayed up too late reading when I should have been sleeping. I also read two books at once sometimes, but I dropped the other one after the first few pages.
I absolutely love when an author writes a psychological so twisty that all my preconceived ideas in the beginning are thrown out the window later in the book. Heather Chavez appears to be a master at this. Everything I thought I knew, based on facts, was wrong. WOW! And the character development was so well done I felt as if I knew these people personally and was living in their story. Wow again!
I feel this is definitely a five star book.
No Bad Deed by Heather Chavez is my first book by this author and it was a great thrill ride for most of the book. I'd definitely recommend this story.
Chavez writes a fast-paced thriller that had me at the edge of my seat wanting to find out what would happen. I love these types of books and settled in for a quick read.
The characters were well done and helped pull me in and kept me wanting to know more about them.
Unfortunately, around the 75% mark things got a little convoluted, but overall this book was a very good read and I will be looking for more by this author in the future.
Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for approving an ARC at my request. All thoughts in this review are my own and freely provided.
Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to preview No Bad Deed by Heather Chavez. This is a really good book and made me think right away - No good deed goes unpunished.
A mother and wife, Cassie, is driving home from work and witnesses a horrific scene - a man is beating up a woman. Cassie stops, against her better judgment, to help this victim. But Cassie's heroic attempts go all wrong and she knows that she is now in danger.
Cassie's life is not the same and she is dragged into the mystery and misery of her own life. Lots of "i didn't see that coming" in this book.
Very good debut - 4 stars.
OMG this book!! This story had so many twists and turns, I couldn't keep track!! It was one shocking revelation after another!! This is a truly chilling, disturbing, suspenseful, page turner of a book! I'm so glad I was accepted to read this masterpiece of psychological suspense!! You will not be disappointed in Cassie's story!!
5 too-good-to-stop stars
This is one of those twisty, adrenaline-filled thrillers that once you start you literally can't stop. What an impressive debut.

If you witnessed a violent moment between a man and woman at the side of the road while in your car, what would you do? Would you get out? Would you call the police?
Cassie Larkin gets out of her car. She's coming home late from her shift at the vet office when she sees a battered woman being chased by a man with a knife on the side of a deserted highway. After a tense confrontation, the attacker tells Cassie something strange.
"Your life is a mess. You just don't know it yet. Let her die, and I'll let you live."
Then he flees the scene in Cassie's van—which contains her wallet, ID, and personal information. Cassie doesn't abandon the victim, and the woman survives. But now the clock is ticking, and Cassie knows that a potential killer knows her address. Knows about her husband. Knows about her kids.
The very next day, her husband is taken.
What follows is one of the most intense, pacing-driven thrillers that I have read in a long time. Cassie's propulsive drive to find her husband and solve the mystery of the killer's interest in her and her family was so entertaining, so nerve-wracking, and filled with all of the hard decisions that make you stop and check yourself: would I do that? would I make that jump? would I make that call? would I trust in the police, or would I do it myself?
Cassie was the main reason that I loved this story. She is a woman full of flaws and filled with a sense of unworthiness when it comes to her husband and her kids. With that cocktail blend of past guilt and fierce maternal love, her focus on the trail of the murderer goes from 0 to 100 real fast. (I was so here for it). In addition to her drive to find the truth, the reveals as to why Cassie, and why her family, become increasingly clear. In case you're wondering whether this falls closer to A-B-C thriller or twisted mystery, I'll say that the reveals and mystery were definitely a main portion of the story, and boy was I shocked by that ending. It's crazy, but it fits the story. Loved it.
Can't wait for Heather Chavez's next thriller.
Thank you so much to William Morrow for an ARC of this title in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks to HarperAudio, the author, and the narrator for an advance listening copy of No Bad Deed for review consideration. Receiving this ALC did not influence my thoughts or opinions on the novel.
A compulsive read, No Bad Deed is relentless in its pacing and flawless at sinking its hooks in on page 1. You will skip meals and, more than likely, sleep while attempting to binge this page-turner in a single sitting. Chavez’s debut is a must-read thriller in 2020.
Looks like thrillers are starting to become my go-to palate cleansers from all of the fantasy/science fiction novels my blog is accustomed to. While 2019 had several winners like The Silent Patient, The Chestnut Man, The Whisper Man, and The Hiding Place (among others), 2020 is coming out of the gate with some absolutely gripping novels like The Other People, and now, No Bad Deed.
Chavez’s writing style is fast-paced, hard-hitting, and tends to push down on the accelerator more than it lets off. Her ability to ramp up the suspense throughout had me polishing off this book in a matter of hours, and you know a book is really good if you can put off chorin’ in order to finish. There are plenty of twists and turns along the road that lead to a very unexpected ending, and in saying that, I had 0 clue as to how this book was going to wrap.
While I can’t say I would’ve chosen some of the paths the protagonist took (especially the very first one, which I guess makes me a “bad” Samaritan), all of the choices she makes are pieces to a larger puzzle that she becomes embroiled in. Having said that, Cassie is a strong female protagonist that you can easily get behind and become emotionally tied to. There is a wide variety of secondary characters who all play a part in how the story pans out, and while it becomes quite a list of names and some can easily get mixed up, plot points get re-explained at the end so any potential confusion is alleviated.
In my opinion, No Bad Deed will be one of the best thrillers released this year. I can see a huge following in Chavez’s future, and you can count me as one of them right now. I cannot wait to see what she comes out with next.
