I have tried and tried to read these but I cannot get into them. I did not know they were part of a series and very hard for me to jump in.
A great paranormal romance I enjoyed reading.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my unbiased opinion and review.
The Enforcer (Fire’s Edge #3). By Abigail Owen. 2019. Entangled: Amara (ARC eBook).
The world of Fire’s Edge has unique takes on the political, biological and psychological bonds of dragon shifters, their mates and the process of mating. I’ve read the first in the series, which introduced the political and physical steps in securing mates, but with Drake Chandali, an enforcer in a rogue-hunting faction, we see an accelerated aging process, when dragons are left unmated, take place. I liked Drake; he’s gruff but he is also dealing with a terminal diagnosis and so a lot of his actions are ways to separate and cut off sources of hurt for him and those he love. So it’s a fortunate, but awkward time for a potential mate to be found in Camilla Carrillo. Overall, I never grew to care much for Cami. There was a brief point in the later part of the story, where her narration just took me straight out of the story with just a few statements. But that was completely on the author. It felt totally random and only for the purpose of virtue signaling. Anyhoo, I also wished I had a bit more understanding of the team dynamics from the previous books as we have other mates and a betrayal that I just couldn’t really feel much for. But it is a cool world and I also like the first book so I’ll look to read more in this series.
This was a great story and a great continuation into a world I’m getting to know. I liked both Drake and Camilla and was happy for their HEA. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

This one was a DNF for me. From the first encounter with Cami I was completely turned off by her character. She was just so immature and rude. I made it a couple of chapters in before I had to just end it.
Drake is a dragon. Drake is dying because he hasn’t found his mate! He leaves his team and goes rouge to protect them. Cami is the mate he has been seeking. When he rescues her from a wildfire sparks fly! Literally someone started the fire! Great read!

I absolutely enjoy this book! I adore this author as well! Dragon shifter are so steamy & I really loved being inside the world this author made! She’s fabulous! Reading about these two banter & get to their HEA! I look forward to reading more in this series! Drake & Cami are perfect for each other! I def recommend it!
Wow I'm just stunned with how good this title was. I just had so much fun reading this title and getting to along for the ride with these amazing characters. I'm so excited to see what's next from this author.
4/5 stars
I really liked Drake and Cami's story and addition to this dragon shifter series!
Characters
Drake and Cami made a fiery pair. Drake believes himself to be dying from lack of a mate and Cami was previously saved by Drake from a fire before she showed dragon signs. The chemistry was really well written. I really loved Cami's feisty personality. She was just stubborn enough to put up with Drake and his sullen, grumpy dragon self. The pacing was really fast and made this dragon shifter romance easy to read.
Overall
Overall, this was a good story within this series. I loved the chemistry between Drake and Cami and how this story lead up to the new series. I love that the series are connected with books before, but you don't have to read the previous book to know everything that's going on. There's always bits of recap in the beginning and interspersed throughout the story. I highly recommend reading previous books though, because you will gain deeper insight into each character and have more of a connection to them and their journey. I can't wait to read the next book in the series and see more stories about the dragon enforcers.
Thank you so much to Entangled Publishing and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read this digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend to everyone.
book 4 in the fire's edge series picks up drake chandall's story. in the enforcer, the red dragon is experiencing side effects of his premature aging due to the fact that he hasn't found his mate. when he almost fails to save a woman during a fire, he realizes he's become a liability to his team and goes rogue.
the last thing he expects is to reencounter the woman he nearly failed to save. and when it becomes clear that camilla bears the mark of a dragon mate, the same mark that belongs to his high king, drake knows that has to keep her safe at all costs. as compelled as he is toward camilla, he is afraid of taking any steps that might tie her to him, he believes that there is no reversing the aging process, and he doesn't want camilla's life to be bound to his.
but the connection between them is undeniable, and the fire's edge crew continues their path to a confrontation with dragon leadership over how mates are found and selected. i can't wait for the next installment in the series.
**the enforcer will publish on december 9, 2019. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/entangled publishing (amara) in exchange for my honest review.
I am so excited to be back with these HOT firefighting dragon shifters, and to meet some new ones in The Enforcer, the third book of the Fire’s Edge series by Abigail Owen.
Drake was the only one who could save the family surrounded by fire, but because he is unmated, his body rebelled in his hurry to save them. It is Cami’s family that he rescues.
She is not afraid of him. She has issues of her own, no one to turn to for help, until…Rune. He just happens to be in the vicinity. He is a rogue, a dragon shifter with no clan and gathers those who need his help, offering them a safe refuge
Dragons come in many colors, each with their own special abilities, other than the normal fire breathing and such. If dragons do not mate, they begin to age and death is not far behind. Drake is one of those dragons. They have their own political intrigue and narcissistic rulers. There is betrayal, danger, love and sacrifice. The kings make the laws, the enforcers, enforce them. Going rogue is a death sentence.
Cami finds a friend in Skylar, who has her own secrets. For some reason, she is drawn to Cami and offers to help her, teaching her martial arts, while she is nursing Drake. At first she doesn’t know why she is drawn to him, but as she learns the ways of dragons, it becomes clear to her. At the moment, she is the stronger one.
“…is your default setting asshole?”
“I’m surprised he left you alone with me.”
“He didn’t want to, something about you being a scary motherfucker…”
Oh man, when a shifter dies…it brought tears to my eyes. Abigail Owen’s descriptive writing brought the scene to life and I could picture it in my mind. BUT, I’m not telling you who will no longer be with us. And Drake, that is his biggest fear. If he were to mate with Cami and not be healed, they would both die.
We have a lot of fun verbal foreplay that turns HOT, steamy, sexy, playful, HOT…ADULTS ONLY HOT.
“Did you know some dragon shifters can shift a single part of themselves?”
I know what first popped into my mind and I wonder what pop into yours. LOL
I love dragons in any shape or form. They are people first, doing all the things that humans do, after all, someone has to cook dinner, do laundry, and all those menial chores that need to be done day after day. I love Drake, Cami, and their merry band of misfits. Makes for some wonderful moments as their individual personalities are revealed. It has been a marvelous visit and I look forward to returning.

Drake is a dragon shifter and he's dying because he hasn't found his mate. When a dragon shifter doesn't find his mate, he eventually starts to get weak, sick and die. The process started earlier than it should have for Drake and he knows it's just a matter of time. So he leaves his team mates and takes refuge with Rune who has been helping to keep some female mates safe.
Cami is staying with Rune and the other female mates when Rune brings Drake to stay with them but Drake is not well and very hard to get along with so none of the other people there want to help him. But Cami can see through his gruff exterior and takes it upon herself to help him while he's there. He seems to start to feel better and when she decides to leave to see her family, Drake goes along with her to keep her safe.
Drake and Cami are so different from each other but the chemistry is there for both of them. Cami is so outgoing, so friendly and warm compared to Drake. He just can't help but smile even if it's just to himself at times by some of the things she says or does around him. He's such a gruff curmudgeon but he doesn't want to let anyone get close to him since he knows he's dying. He thinks that even if he finds his mate at this late point it won't be enough to stop the disease from killing him and thus killing his mate in the process so he's decided not to even try.
But Cami doesn't let that stop her from getting under his skin and making him feel something for her. When they are with her family they get a lot closer and she doesn't want to let him just give up but she has a hard time making him see her way of things.
There are political twists going on and so dragons who are actually allies have to be in secret for now until things change or people will be killed. There's danger in this book because of this and I think that these things will get changed as this series goes on. I've read all the books in this series so far and it's been riveting, it's really kept me on the edge of my seat to see what will happen next.

The Enforcers deliver one creepy, rotting king, a dragon shifter, and a fated mate. Now, I am going to go ahead and tell you now, you should read this in order. I did not. I was so confused about the rules and the mating and the world in general.
Basically, if they don't find their mate, they die a slow painful death. Enter Cami, a human girl who bears the mating mark. Cami is your classic stubborn, sassy heroine. Drake is your classic self sacrificing man. Thankfully for Drake, Cami isn't going to let him rot to death.
In addition to the romance, there is great a lot of political drama. The king, as I mentioned is rotting and his cronies have been "running things" in his absence. Obviously, its ne'er do well behavior and the enforcers are trying to save their race.
The Enforcers isn't a stand alone; Owens has created a very intricate and detailed world with a lot of unique information. I enjoyed the story, but think it certainly would be so much more enjoyable if I read the previous books!
The Enforcer by Abigail Owen is book three in her Fire’s Edge series. This was my introduction to this author, and it was a pleasant experience. The author provides adequate backstory from earlier books in this series, so I was able to completely follow the story. Each novel in the series is a standalone, but the backstory was still helpful.
Drake Chandali is a red dragon shifter. Camilla “Cami” Carillo is a dragon shifter mate, though neither of them are aware of this initially. Of course Cami doesn’t get it, she just found out that dragons really exist. Drake becomes her protector to keep her out of the hands of a corrupt king. Cami believes Drake is her mate. Now all she has to do is get him to believe that it’s not too late for her to save him from an early death.
Since I’m a fan of paranormal/shifter novels, I especially enjoyed The Enforcer. The characters are strong and vibrant, obviously since they’re dragons or dragon mates. The dialogue is fresh and engaging. Ms. Owen makes the concept of dragons seem absolutely feasible. She takes you into their brilliantly created world. I give The Enforcer 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it to all readers of paranormal/shifter romance. There is some explicit sexual content that may be offensive to some readers.

I liked the central romance in this one between Drake and Camila but the story suffers from trying to tell too many other stories at the same time. The author has two simultaneous series - Fire's Edge and Inferno Rising. This is part of Fire's Edge, a group of firefighting dragons who work as forestry hotshot smokejumpers, dealing with man made and dragon made fires.
Drake has an incurable early aging disease that is weakening him, and the only way it will abate is if he finds his proper mate. That's problematic since mating with the wrong dragon-shifter woman could kill her, so he can't take chances on the wrong woman. It turns out that Camila, whom he saves from a deadly fire is showing signs of being a dragon shifter herself and could be the right woman, but for the two of them to take a chance on each other will be a test of faith.
Their romance is definitely a steamy one, but it gets convoluted by the addition of lots of other characters some of whom are from the Inferno Rising series (which is about four sisters, daughters of a Phoenix shifter who could save the dragon clans if they mate with the right Kings). There are also parts of the story told from secondary character viewpoints. I found it confusing at times trying to keep characters straight (not always sure who are the good guys and the bad guys), and as i hadn't read the previous book in the Fire's Edge series, there were events referred to that weren't well explained (at least not to my understanding). So it's a 3 star read for me - still enjoyable, but could have used a glossary of characters to keep things straight.
This book was a continuation of this series of dragon enforcers, but somehow managed to feel totally fresh and new. I really enjoyed the stubborn romance in this one.
Cami is a tough as nails woman who knows how to speak her mind and stand up for herself. This is probably why she was trying to catch the last of her baby goats and load them into the truck when Drake, a dragon shifter fighting the fire that threatened her land, first spotted her. It was pain in the ass at first sight between these two and only got more complicated from there. Drake is his usual glum self, made even more so by his impending death if he doesn't find a mate. Is he looking for one? No, of course not. Well, like it or not, Cami is a possible mate.
Cami does not take the easy path to mate-dom. It takes a visit from the elusive Rune to get her away and safe, only to be reintroduced to Drake. These two were stubborn in the most awesome, reluctant way. I was also reluctant to be on team Cami/Drake, but I got there by the last half. The way they work together is *amazing* by the end, and, of course, we are delivered a solid HEA.
I really enjoyed this book. The characters were easy to like and relate with and the storyline was intriguing. I did feel as if I was missing something or being thrown into the middle of a bigger picture, but I'm assuming that's the way it is for series, even though reading this as a standalone was okay.
Owen's writing style kept me wanting to know more and I felt as if the plot was intricate and detailed in a way that wasn't overbearing, but helped the reader get a good picture of what was really going on. The relationships within the story were well played out and I really wanted to know more about the side characters.
Overall, The Enforcer was action packed, well paced, and just really, really good.
Tenacious!
Drake is stubborn and Cami is even more so and they are a match made in heaven!

Initially I was really excited about this book. I haven’t yet read anything by Abigail Owens and I am a fan of paranormal romances. But I had trouble jumping into this book. As someone who has not read the other books, I had difficulty following the characters. The word building was good but the characters just did not jump out to me. I just couldn’t connect to the storyline. This book was provided to me by Netgalley and I voluntarily offer my thoughts which are mine alone.
