I love a down trodden hero story! Make it paranormal and I just want to sigh..... This is the 3rd book in the series and although it could be read as a stand alone, I think it is helpful to read them in order in order to understand the world building.
Drake is dying and he wants to do whatever he can to ease his passing on his band of brothers and his baby sister. He does not feel worthy to have a mate and is determined to be growly and pushy so no one gets close.
After saving Camilla and her family, he doesn't think he will see her again. Little does he know that his dying wish--to go away with the Rogue dragons, will bring him back to Cami again. Cami is drawn to him as well. turns out, mates can save one another. Now, Cami just needs to convince Drake he is worthy.
Lots of political intrigue in this one. This series merges characters with the author's King series so reading both with help round out the story. I am looking forward to all of the enforcer's getting their HEA. Interesting characters and all of them are ready to tell the powers that be that the old ways are not going to work any more.
Loved this one!

Review: This quick-paced novel is set on contemporary Earth with hidden shifter societies. Much of the world building is clearly established in other installments of the series, which means that this will be a more satisfying read if you have read the other books. You don’t have to have read the first in the spin-off series, Inferno Rising, (see my review of The Rogue King at https://fanscihist.wordpress.com/2019/07/03/the-rogue-king-by-abigail-owen/), but it would enrich the reading experience if you did.
Drake is a taciturn, dying man who defaults to grunting rather than using words – the typical alpha male character. I feel like I would understand his character better if I had already read the previous books in the series. Cami is a very impulsive, family-oriented, fearless, self-sacrificing person. I didn’t identify with her, but I can imagine that there are many who will. Because I didn’t truly identify with either character, I was not invested in their will-they-or-won’t-they relationship. This may also be because some details in terms of plot resolution were a bit thin. That is, some explanations were skimmed over and were a bit deus ex machina for my tastes. Much like with the main characters, I feel that much would be gained in terms of understanding of the supporting characters if other books in the series were read before this one. That being said, Skylar, Lyndi, and Dune are intriguing characters, and I liked the set-up for the next installment. I will probably read the previous books, as well as continue with the series.

Full disclosure: I received a free advance review copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.
This is such a great series as these dragon shifters battle the disease that will slowly drive them crazy unless they find their mate. Drake is one that has been progressively getting worse and since he does not have a mate, believes that this is getting to the end for him.
Little does he realize that the woman that he saved from a fire is his mate. She is rescued by a rogue shifter that the enforcers have come to an alliance but formerly were deadly enemies.
Lots of intrigue and action is woven through and lots of romance as Drake and Cami feel the attraction but not sure what is in store for them!
The Enforcer (Fire's Edge Book 4) by Abigail Owen
This is a “DRACARYS” HOT romance that will heat you up!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The Enforcer is about a dragon shifter (Drake) who has split loyalties between his law enforcer team and the rogue dragon Rune who harbors and shelters dragon mates to save them from the corrupt and murderous King. Finding and mating your one true mate is the only thing that can save and lengthen a male dragons life but, once mated, if one mate dies so does the other.
Drake is dying, centuries too soon, with his body failing him he has left the Enforcers to live out what little time he has left at Runes hideout where he can be alone.
Cami is more than a little upset to find her body is shooting out sparks, starting little fires everywhere! Now to top it all off she is face to face with a huge black dragon named Rune telling her she is a dragon mate and soon to become a dragon herself. Now, she’s down right pis**d she has to leave her family and go into hiding for her safety, before the King hears of her existence.
Drake just wants to be left alone so he can die in peace but, the little spitfire Cami is drawn to Drake and she’s not afraid of him like everyone else. No matter what comes out of his nasty mouth, she keeps coming back around to take care of him, whether he likes it or not.
The storyline is edgy and engaging with excitement, suspense, danger, betrayal, and twist and turns that kept me reading. The author expertly delivered a deep emotion that brought me to tears at one point and made me laughing at another. Great complex character’s including deep dark bruiting male dragon shifters and confident, brave, and witty females. The romance is searingly HOT, raw, passionate, and emotional. I love the romance but my favorite thing about this book is the clever, witty, and humorous banter between the characters! I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
Happy Reading ♥️
Content Note: Adult Rated
Some reader may be offended by the strong explicit language, and the steamy hard core sex scenes with very explicit descriptions and words. Earning 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 out of 5 flames!
3rd book in this series, am loving where this series is going and how its coming togerther with the other series.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ACR, I voluntarily read and reviewed.
Drake Chandali is dragon shifter and an enforcer. In the face of an approaching fire he helps save a young woman and her family. Per protocol he erases their memories once the rescue is complete. Drake however is dying, his body failing him, causing him to leave his clan and seek shelter with a group of rogues. Imagine his surprise when he finds the young woman Cami whom he once rescued is a prospective dragon mate being guarded by the rogue dragons. Could she possibly be his mate?
The dragon shifter world introduced by the author is fascinating considering that many of the aging shifters are dying for lack of mates and yet there's a horrifying ritual that potentially burns up the wrong mate. Cami is sheltering with the rogues in fear of her life from the mating process. Yet she finds Drake familiar and fascinating. When circumstances make Drake her body guard, all bets are off.
This is a fast paced story with a nice twist. It certainly inspired me to go find the other stories in the series.
The Enforcer by Abigail Owen is book Three in the Fire's Edge Series. This is the story of Camilla Carrillo and Drake Chandali. I have read the previous books which added to my enjoyment of this one but you can make this a standalone book if you wish to do so.
Drake and his fellow dragon enforcers are coming to the point they need to find a mate. If they don't their body starts to turn on them and Drake knows that he is nearing this where he will have to go rogue. But when he saved the human Camilla then she turns up again where he is at he starts to learn there is more to her than he thought and she is his mate.
I have enjoyed this series and this book.
Drake is in the last stages of his life. He is a dragon and they die of a wasting disease if they don't find their mate in time to save them. He leaves his dragon brothers and ends up finding Camilla. Camilla is the human woman he saved from a fire months ago. Camilla has lost almost everything and she has the mating mark. Drake recognizes her as his mate but is it too late to save him? Will Camilla come around to finding out about the dragons and accept Drake? A wonderful read that kept me interested and excited to find out what happened until the end.
I received a copy of this book via Netgalley and am leaving a review.
This is the 3rd book in the Fire's Edge series and I would absolutely read the previous books before this one as events from those ones lead into this one. This one also loosely ties into the Inferno Rising series. In this one we get Drake's story. Drake Chandali's body is slowly giving up as he hasn't found his mate. In most cases if you find a mate, it will reverse the damage. But Drake believes he is too far gone for it to work. Camilla Carrillo is a woman that Drake saved from a fire set by dragons. He believed her to be human. But when he comes face to face with her again, he finds out she is a dragon mate. And when he finds out she bears the mark of his lineage (and the rotting High King) he doesn't want to believe she is his, because he doesn't want to drag her to the grave with him. But he will spend the time he has left keeping her safe from the king. No matter what the cost.
I really liked this one! Drake makes the ultimate sacrifice for the people he cares about and just shows his true character with every move he makes. Camilla shows how much she loves and cares about her family and what she is willing to do for them no matter what. I loved the intrigue and suspense but I really want to know more about the council. And I really want to know whether there are any on it that oppose the "rules" but are working behind the scenes so as to be able to spy on them. All in all a very enjoyable read and I love that it is starting to tie in with the happenings in the other series!
This series just keeps on getting better and better. The Enforcer is here and I’ve just been waiting to get my hands on Drake’s story. I refused to accept that he was too late to find his mate, it just wasn’t a possibility in my mind. And of course, Abigail would NEVER do something like that to us.
Drake’s story was well worth the wait and I was living for every single moment of it. There were soooo many moments that just really tore my heart apart. I hated how Drake was already accepting things and wasn’t even willing to think it a possibility especially when it was right in front of him.
I LOVEDDDDDDDD Cami for Drake, she’s a whole lot of sass and unafraid to speak up to Drake. As grumpy and moody as he can be, he does not scare her one bit. I’d say she accepted the dragon shifter life rather easily, but when it comes to her family, that wasn’t something she was willing to say farewell too.
One of the many things that fascinate about this series is the politics of the dragon-shifter world and dragon mates. There’s still so much going on and as we get through every book, some truths are uncovered, however I still have a million other questions. I have no idea how this political system will change, but it definitely needs to happen.
With The Enforcer, we get a little insight/crossover with The Rogue King, which is the spin-off series of Fire’s Edge. I couldn’t tell you how excited I was to read all of that and it also left me begging for more.
Such a flawless story and I instantly fell in love with Cami and Drake. As much of a fighter Drake was, there was nothing that was going to keep him away from his mate.
Absolute must-read, everyone!
So earlier this year I was lucky enough to get an arc of the first book in the Inferno Rising series, The Rogue King by Abigail Owen. I was over the moon for this rich world of dragon shifters and the building dragonian political uprising all alongside a good slow-burn (pun definitely intended) romance. I was so excited to see another dragon book from Abigail Owen coming that I automatically requested it. In my haste I didn't realize this was actually the third book in her Fire's Edge series. I'm relieved to say that I had no trouble following along as this book actually appears to tie in with the Inferno Rising series and on the flip side could be read as a standalone novel. Although I highly recommend checking the other books out, I know I certainly intend on devouring the rest of the Fire's Edge books now.
This is such a vast interesting world. I loved getting a peek at another faction of it here. The brooding moody Drake and the strong spitfire Cami were great leading characters. The thing I really like about all of these books I've read thus far is that even the secondary characters are crucial to the plot and they are equally as entertaining! *Rune and Lyndi I'm looking at you specifically* I'm consistently left wanting to get to know them more. Give me books for all them please! I can't wait to read the Fire's Edge books that preceded this one! I'm officially a fan.
Sparks are certainly flying in this dragon shifter paranormal romance!
Whenever I begin one of these dragon shifter romances, I always find myself surprised how determined these men often are to ignore the signs that their mate is right in front of them. Of all the books in this series so far though, I would have to say that Drake had the most compelling and understandable reason. All of the signs point to say that Camilla is his destined mate, staring him right in the face. Her proximity, her touch, make him feel alive in a way he's never felt before. He feels drawn to her from the very first moment he lays eyes on her. And yet, he does everything within his power to try and push her away. The reason? He's dying.
All unmated dragons eventually age die if they ultimately go too long without mating. This degenerative process usually impacts dragons centuries down the road, but for Drake it's hitting him earlier than anyone would have expected. He's too proud to admit to his shifter teammates the sad fate that he knows will overtake him soon, as he quickly starts losing the ability to move, so he decides to abandon them to die out in peace without the need for them to witness his decline. When he runs to an old friend to live out his last days, he's confronted with Camilla, and the very real possibility that she's his mate. Rather than feeling a sense of relief at finding the one person meant for him, he instead refuses to hope that she could be his salvation.
Drake is convinced he's too far gone to be pulled back from the brink, and worries that if they should proceed with the mating process when they are in fact too late, his eventual death would result in Camilla's death too following their solidified link as mates. He vows he'll never risk her life in an attempt to save his own. However, just as much as I admired Drake's selfless determination to protect, you've gotta love Camilla's stubbornness above all else!
She might be new to this world of dragons, mates, councils and enforcers, but when she acknowledges wholeheartedly that Drake is her destined mate, her reaction to his attempts to push her away are fabulous. Essentially, tough sh*t buddy! Yes, mating might eventually link them together in a way that would simultaneously cause her death with his own, but Camilla realizes that she would rather spend those few precious moments with Drake linked in the most firm emotional and physical connection possible, than to live out the rest of her life never having experienced it. She refuses to turn her back on him, and it was quite entertaining to see this slight woman stand up to an imposing and surly dragon shifter. You get it girl!
This was a great addition to the series. The moments where we witness vulnerability from this seemingly brusque, tough dragon were by far the most compelling. He gives off this air as though nothing can infiltrate the protective barriers he's set up around himself, but Camilla has taken hold of his heart and refuses to let go. A missing element to this book which was featured prominently in the previous novels was the brotherly connection of these dragon enforcers. It makes sense in a way in that Drake didn't want his team to witness his decay, and he's leaving them behind so as not to have to struggle through an emotional goodbye. This results in the story being much more focused on his relationship with Camilla. There's definitely nothing wrong with that, and while we get a few scenes which highlight the brotherly affection of the Huracan Enforcer team, I think I would have enjoyed another scene or two involving these dragons coming together as brothers.
The Enforcer is the third book in Abigail Owen’s Fire’s Edge series, and I can’t get enough of these smoking` hot firefighting dragon shifters! Drake is best described as moody, but steadfast. So while his body is failing him as his time fast approaches critical to find his mate, rescuing a human woman and her family proves to be a complication he didn’t see coming and things are certainly about to get even more interesting. I loved these characters and the intense storyline, but I definitely recommend reading these books in order as you appreciate the timeline more and the interconnected characters too. I’m looking forward to the next in the series.
Drake is about to come to the end of his life this dragon shifter has never found his mate and that is certain death so he leaves his family in an attempt to spare them seeing him die That when he runs into Camilla again she is a human that he saved from a fire months ago why does she feel like his mate to him as he cannot mate a human or is she human. She may bear his mark but is it to late will he kill her by claiming her as his on or is she indeed so strong that she can drag him back from the brink of death. When danger threatens her family due to the mark she carries it will be up to Drake to keep them all safe, will he admit what she is to him in the process.
The third book in Fire’s Edge, The Enforcer, Abigail Owens has delivered a well delivered story with dynamic characters and a compelling storyline. A great addition to the series and one I will be recommending.
Loved this book ! It had a very nice story but the characters where the best, the hero was steaming and made you call in love with him!!
This was SOOOO worth the wait for me. I’ve been dying to read Drake’s story after the last one and this does NOT disappoint!!!
Drake is one of the original Dragon Shifters. He’s getting older and he’s body is slowing down and deteriorating, mainly because he doesn’t have a mate. With the outcome of finding a mate looking slimmer each day, Drake’s decided to bow out of his Enforcer duties and die as peacefully as possible. That is until he literally runs in to the one woman he’s been thinking about for months, because whenever he’s around her, he feels alive again.
Cami doesn’t know what to think. One day she’s running from fires with her family, the next she’s living in a cave with Dragon Shifters. What has her world become? These last few months have been a crash course in Shifter ways and law, but nothing could prepare her for the man who’s arrived in her new home/cave. Why is she so drawn to him and why does she care?
If you’ve been following this series, then you’ll fall in love with this book. Not only do we get to experience the chemistry between Drake and Cami, we learn more about the High Kings, old ways and old friends. Is the love story compelling? Of course, but it’s the on going story of the High King, Mates and Rogues that kept me turning the pages just as much as the love interest. I just can’t get enough of these Enforcers and their mates!!!!
I liked this one, I really did. But even so, it took me too long to finish because I was so easily able to put it aside for other things. I don't know, I guess it just didn't suck me in despite everything I liked. I really liked how this time the female mc already knew about dragons and the whole mating thing by the time she meets her mate. I also got pretty excited that this one was bringing in some things from The Rogue King. I really liked that book.
I'm pretty ambivalent about Drake as a character. He definitely didn't have me swooning for him or anything, but he was a really great guy. One who is dying and continuously tortures himself in order to protect those he cares for the most. Sure he's broody and would rather grunt at you before using words, but that's attractive in it's own way. Isn't it?
I really liked Cami in the beginning. She did the right thing in order to protect her family and was able to learn more about her fate and the world of dragon shifters. She was smart enough to know that she had to be sure before choosing a mate and was in no hurry. She wasn't afraid of Drake and the way she dealt with him was good too. But then she turned all selfish about her family and stupid and it was annoying.
We all knew that Drake was dying, but we didn't really know just how bad it gotten for him. And far too early considering his age. In order to protect his brothers and his sister he makes one of the hardest decisions in his life. Leaving them and going with Rune. By this point, Drake can't even fly by himself and when he arrives at Rune's hideout, he passes out. For a few days. When Drake arrived, he was beyond shocked to see Cami. He had saved her and her family from a fire only a short time before and he had no idea she was a mate. But here she is and she's also the only one willing to deal with his bad attitude to take care of him.
A good chunk of this book takes place inside Rune's hideout. So we see Drake getting all that hostility and not caring one bit. We also get to see Cami interacting with Skylar who is the next female mc in the Inferno Rising tie in series. We get a little bit more Rune here too, but not nearly enough for me. Dare I hope he gets his own book somewhere between these two series? Anyway. During this time Drake and Cami don't so much as get closer per se, but they kind of do. Does that make sense? Drake is also becoming suspicious of some things when he notices that occasionally he doesn't suffer from any of his symptoms.
When Cami hears kind of bad news from her mother is when she becomes selfish and stupid. Selfish because she doesn't care about anything but getting back to them, and stupid because by doing so all she is doing is putting them in danger. Something she doesn't realize AT ALL. Come on, I thought she was smarter than that. But Drake refuses to let her go alone, so it's off they go together. Once they get back to her family's ranch, things only keep getting more and more complicated.
Despite what they feel for each other, Drake is harsh in his pushing Cami away because he thinks he's protecting her. But at the same time his willpower is weak and he always eventually gives in. I will say their love scenes were pretty hot. While at the ranch, Drake catches the scent of an enemy and risks it by going back to his team to warn them. From there things go a little crazy and we get a lot more action. The Alaz team is on their way and the friction between these two teams is high. Toss in Cami being a mate and the mark she bares and it's got explosive possibilities. Now they just have to figure out a way for Drake to mate her without getting him labeled a traitor and dragging his team down with him. But they come up with a plan. It's a risky gamble indeed, but one that pays off. Especially when Rune shows up to play his part.
What I hated was how this ended. I AM NOT HAPPY WITH THIS DECISION.
Smoking hot dragons, yes this book is full of them 🔥
Drake is the main man in this story and his a little gruff, well he has a good reason - his body is dying as he hasn't found his mate in his lifetime.
Cami is a woman with strong family roots, she's also showing signs of being a mate and she seems drawn to Drake.
There are lots of twists in the dragon world, who's good and who's bad, the lines seem to blur sometimes but keeps you intrigued.
The love and lust between Cami and Drake is hot, and all that I'm saying is Dragon tongue magic ♥️
This is a flaming good read.
