Like Viking tales of old, this story had many elements that kept me enthralled; adventure, romance, drama, heroism, tragedy, deceit and secrets. Well written in a way that takes you to the time period without getting too bogged down with technical language. I loved the inventive curse words. Even though something drastic happens to Sigurd, I'm hoping for his story next!
I found The Viking's Captive by Ingrid Hahn to be an enjoyable read with an action-packed storyline and a chemistry between Thorvald and Alodie that captured my attention. I was hooked! The characters were solid while the world was well-defined. Ms. Hahn had me invested in the whole of the story and to see how all turned out in the end. Nicely done Ms. Hahn.
An ARC was generously provided in exchange for an honest review of which this is both honest and completely voluntary.
From the first page, the adventure began as the Vikings arrive. Alodie sees them on the sea and runs to warn everyone including her mistress, the princess.
Elodie begs the Princess to let her act in her place so that she will be safe. Dressing up and standing before the "demons", the leader stepped out and said he had come for the Princess.
Thorvald Longsword loathed having to take her. But he would do as he was bid. It was his chance to do something for the Jarl and win his favor and he would free him. He had a secret that had kept him under the Jarls control. He didn;t want to kill the people if the princess would just come with him.
Alodie does go with him and the journey begins!
Prepare to be drawn into the life of the Norsemen and see how they lived and the lives of two unlikely people to be drawn together! Adventure, suspense, secrets, an attraction that cannot be denied will take you to the end and make you sigh as you turn the last page! Excellent!
Thorvald is tasked with kidnaping a Princess to get his lands back and ends up taking her servant Alodie, who takes the Princess’ place. Sparks are soon flying between the two but Alodie has been through so much can she trust Thorvald and what will happen when he discovers the truth? Fast-paced read with loads of drama and steam. An entertaining historical read.
The Viking's Captive by Ingrid Hahn is the story of Alodie and Thorvald.
Thorvald was sent to kidnap the Princess and in returned he would be given back his land. So that is what he set out to do. Alodie was left by her father became a servant of the Princess. So when Thorvald came, Alodie took the Princess place. Thorvald of course doesn't know this at first but he is definitely attracted to the spirited women. Alodie has her attraction too but with what she is hiding and of course her painful past she holds her feelings in as long as she could.
For me this was a page turner story. I am a big fan of Ms. Hahn's writing so this was a joy to read.
Finished this book. I really enjoyed it up until the last major event and then I couldn't stop rolling my eyes. I dont know what I wanted but it wasn't that ending. Wish i loved it all the way through.
Alodie sees Vikings coming to shore. With the king gone, she knows she must reach the princess in time to save her. When the Vikings demand the princess go with them, Alodie pretends to be the princess in order to spare her from whatever fate awaits her. Thus, Alodie finds herself their captive.
Thorvald Longsword must kidnap the daughter of his jarl's enemy if he wants his lands back. An easy enough task, right? Thorvald wasn't counting on beginning to like her. When the time comes, can he give an innocent woman over to a cruel man like his jarl? Find out in THE VIKING'S CAPTIVE.
This is my first read by author Ingrid Hahn. THE VIKING'S CAPTIVE has such a beautiful cover and an interesting blurb that I couldn't pass it up. The story was rushed in important parts and prolonged in other less important ones. I think that with a little more time, her writing skills are sure to improve. Ms. Hahn does a great job with her character's descriptions, scenery, etc... It is easy to get swept up into the story. Alodie and Thorvald have more in common than they realize. I enjoyed the epilogue very much. I look forward to reading more by Ms. Hahn.
This book is about Alodie who is taken by viking. I like the premise. There is adventure and romance. Both Alodie and Thorvald are strong and likeable characters. The story was a bit predictable, but I didn't mind. It was a fun and quick read for me.
This is a new author for me and I found it to have a wonderful story and backdrop, the characters are awesome, I couldn't put it down it was good.
I received a copy and I am voluntarily leaving my own honest opinion
This is an interesting read that I enjoyed immensely. It is an adventure that takes us back into the time of Vikings. 'Demons,' as Alodie likes to call them, are not what she expected when she impersonated her princess and gets captured in her stead. But Thorvald Longsword changes her mind about the Northmen and she realizes that they are not Demons. They are just men flawed and misguided at times, pure evil at others. Yet, at the end of the day, they are men and shouldn't be hated for what their kind did. Now, she is willing to open her heart to one of them but is he worth it?
Thorvald wants nothing more than his land. That is until he meets Alodie. She is fierce and strong. She challenges him in ways that he didn't even think was possible. He took her from her home and she might never forgive him for that. But he is willing to try one last time to make things right between them. Maybe there is a happy ending for them after all.
I loved it. Overall, it is a great read even though at times I found it a little annoying. I liked both Alodie and Thorvald and I enjoyed the story.
I'm not too familiar with historical romances, but this was easy to read and understand. I really appreciated the author's note at the beginning mentioning how she wrote the story.
The plot was intriguing and kept me entertained. Some of the story felt a lot like filler at the end though. I couldn't ever get behind the main hero, Thorvald. I really loved him at first and his character's personality, but by the end he made some really stupid decisions that even I couldn't see someone with his character type make.
Overall, the story was entertaining and the characters were okay.
Thorvald Longsword can’t believe all he has to do is kidnap the daughter of his jarl’s enemy to get his land back. Easy. But when he finally snatches the princess up and tosses her over his shoulder, the beautiful spitfire makes him question his determination to get his land back at any cost.
Alodie gladly agrees to impersonate the princess so the bloodthirsty Northmen will take her instead. While Alodie might be ready to die for her people, she wasn’t prepared for how her pulse races for the maddeningly noble captor whom she’d just as soon hate.
A well written book that I enjoyed but at times I found my interest wandering. I liked both Thorvald & Alodie but I didn’t love them & I found that whilst there was chemistry between them I didn’t really buy that they fell in love. Both of them were still too involved in their pasts & weren't really moving forward. I was disappointed that one of the most interesting characters died early in the story & I must admit I was hoping all the way through that he’d somehow survived. Thorvald was certainly a very honourable Viking & certainly different from my perception of a Norseman. Alodie was a strong feisty woman who was also extremely brave. The pace did lag at times but overall flowed well.
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
This story is filled with lots of wild Viking action. Thorvald is holding on to a secret that is a burden on his heart and is leading him to do things he doesn’t believe in. Alodie is fierce and curios. When she puts herself in a position to be taken captive her life changes. The book is filled with enormous highs and lows. As these two struggle t9 make sense of their place in the world, they will fight for love and faith. You will enjoy the rousing arguments and the spitfire personality that is Alodie.
These are my own honest words and this is my review for this book. What a tale! This ia a well written story with great characters.
Started out so well then tanked in the middle and picked up some at the end. This was a struggle to complete. It dragged so much. I also really didn’t love the main characters. There was just something missing from the story and I am not sure what. Again great beginning the reason for the three stars,
Received a copy from the publisher for an honest review.
Moira Brunwood had betrayed her clan and she was leaving today never to return. She had been banished. Her brother was taking her to her mother's people and once allies. She had the gift to see ahead in the future. But her dream had been wrong. So many things happen in this story. So much pain, intrigue, hate and love.
Cormag MacDrummond was Laird of his clan and felt having her here would change everything. It did. He and his three friends were very close. They had grown up together Ian, Finn, Garrett, and Cormag and did everything together. He also had a gift he was an Empath and could feel other's emotions.
I loved how unsure they were of each other and he would try to stay with his mind and not his heart.
It was confusing for him and he seemed to spend a lot of time in turmoil. There are some surprises.
A lot happens to some of the people of the clan. She wants to be good and not get herself in a bad situation like before. The author did a great job with this wonderful tale. It was smooth, entertaining,
and kept you guessing. The characters were so true to life and honest.
I would definitely recommend this lovely novel.
I received this ARC from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.
When two persons harboring secrets fight their intense attraction, what will win ...
I was intrigued by this story because I liked the first book I read by Mrs Ingrid Hahn, sure it was not set during the same historical period, but I had to give it a try.
I confess I have lukewarm feelings here.
I had a hard time connecting with the main protagonists, while I admired Alodie’s courage, she annoyed me with her repetitive rambling about she paying the price for having had intercourse one time without the protection of marriage.
And then suddenly she jumps on the lap of the hero when she is supposed to be married to another, monster or not, it is quite unsettling after all her talk about god and everything else.
After she is a strong woman, she makes mistakes but she works hard and does not let misfortune overwhelm her.
After his many faults and flaws, I might have liked Thorvald a bit much than Alodie, he is mistaken in his beliefs, and even if for most of the story he refuses to see reason, he gave his words so he is bond to honor them.
Then when he understands the wrong of his way, he faces his fears and shame head held high.
This has all the ingredients to be a good tale, but I had some problems to relate with the protagonists’ journey. I skipped pages to go farther, as the story became more interesting once both’s motives were revealed, as they finally act as they must.
Why my 3.75 rounded to 4 stars.
I was granted an advance copy by the publisher Entangled via Netgalley.
Here is my true and unbiased opinion.
The blurb totally drew me in. I love Vikings. Thorvald has to kidnap a princess in order to get his lands back. Alodie impersonates the princess in order to fool the Northmen into taking her instead.
They are both attracted to one another but the secrets they keep, make it impossible to act on those feelings.
This book was very good and well written. I give this 3.75 stars. I liked it but there was something missing for me. There was adventure, an evil villain, a strong heroine. A good epilogue.
Definitely give this book a try.

In short, this was ok. I didn't love it though, not as much as I hoped I would when I started it. I liked the premise to this book (especially the fact that it was a little different than most of the other historical romances - I just love Vikings, I mean, who doesn't right?) and I was sure I'd enjoy it greatly but sadly for some reason it feels like it dragged on forever. It was fine. Not great, not awful, just ok. Nothing stands out, neither in a good nor in a bad way. The characters are bland and the storyline lacks excitement. Before the halfway mark I was already skimming in hope of getting to something interesting again. This story line had so much potential and I so desperately wanted to like it. It wasn't a bad book, nothing special really bothered me about it but nothing really held my attention either. I really wanted to like The Viking's Captive (because, c'mon, Vikings!!) but I just had a hard time connecting to Alodie from the get-go. I also feel like the plot was not flowing. I skipped pages in between because I kept getting bored.
If you stumble upon this book, do read it because it's far from bad, it just didn't wow me as much as I hoped it would.
4.5 / 5 stars rounded up. This book is adventurous, romantic, and definitely steamy at times! Whenever I picked up "The Viking's Captive", I felt like I traveled back to the Early Medieval Era, and could see everything happening before my eyes.
The characters felt very real, and also grew throughout the novel. Many of them had huge character arcs, and the relationships and interactions between various characters felt very authentic. There were quite a few twists and turns that I did not see coming AT ALL! My mouth definitely dropped a few times.
If you love historical fiction and / or historical romance, I definitely recommend this book. I could not wait to see chapter after chapter what happened next in the story.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for an ARC of this book, I really enjoyed it!
