I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. Plants, is an excellent new j non-fiction book filled with great pictures and information. I even learned what planting zone I am in.

Beautiful and informative- a perfect combination for any children's non-fiction book. Nature all around us: Plants covers a range of topics related to the science of botany: parts of plants, seasonal changes, photosunthesis, plant respiration and pollination, plant variety according to geographic zones (the USA and Canada) and a basic plant identification kit. This is a kind of book that inspires you to go out and observe leaves, flowers and stalks and then search for more information about them. The author also warns against and shows how to recognise poisonous plants.
A great resource for middle-grade children who would like to learn more about the natural world.

This book is great for those who are really interested in plants. It goes into great detail about the parts of plants, the plant life cycle, and so many different types of flowers. Parts of it even remind me of a field guide. In fact, it's a lot like one that I had when I was a kid that I had inherited from my grandmother. Even the beautiful illustrations make me nostalgic for that. They're quite realistic, I think watercolors? I would have definitely had this book with me throughout the seasons as I explored my yard as a kid, or even to take to the park.

Thank you to the publisher for fulfilling my request for a review copy via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book is a great resource for families. The non-fiction title breaks down different types of plants and how they work. It also explains seasonal changes, strange plants, and how to identify plants outside. I also appreciated the section on conserving plant species. The artwork is lovely, and the text is so informational. This would be a great addition to any home or home school library.

As a nature lovers, this is the kind of book that I would give to the younger readers as a gift. Honestly, nothing better that an educational book with beautiful illustration. They are just simple and easy to understand. A great introduction of botany to children. Don't be surprised if your kids suddenly loves nature because of the "Nature All Around" series". I love love love this book!
If I have a kid one day, I know which series I'd picked for them about nature.
Fantastic book!

This is a gem of a book. In truth, it's quite rare to find a good educational book for kids that is as rich and detailed while maintaining a simple and entertaining language. This is particularly important for encouraging children to go out into nature and explore instead of being stuck indoors in from of the computer (don't we all know this struggle?).

Well, I must give the author the credit for doing a spectacular job with encouraging kids to go outside - to recognize leaves, flowers, to plant a seed and even grow microgreens, for which we get a beautiful step-by-step instruction (which anyone can do from home in the time of the pandemic as well!).

I had so much joy not just reading about plants, but also admiring the absolutely gorgeous illustrations.

I would absolutely buy this book for my kids or as a present. Beware, however, that it is targeted at kids living in the US and Canada.

Nature All Around: Plants by Pamela Hickman is such a gorgeous book! Its beautiful illustrations really pull you in to learn more about plants, and create such awareness about and fascination for nature. It goes through photosynthesis, the different parts of a plant and their life cycle, and the different seasons. There's even a project for kids to do at the back. Wonderful book to learn more about the plants in North America!

This book is beautiful! It is also informative and teaches all about plants. My 8-year-old loved it and thought it was cool. The feel of it is explorative and it encourages the readers to go outside and learn to identify plants. I highly recommend for younger grade science classes but would also be great at home.

Truly beautiful book! The illustrations in the book are absolutely gorgeous! This would be a great book to use in the classroom (or homeschooling) for studying plants. It goes through the different parts of a plant, photosynthesis, the plant life cycle, the different seasons, etc. It is very informative. It would be a great reference during a lesson because of its detailed and stunning illustrations!

A sweet plant book with lovely illustrations. It seems to be geared to that sweet spot of childhood, ages 7-11, when kids are really interested in learning new things and appreciate meaningful projects and books.

This book is geared toward North American kids and covers all the basics plus a bit more. It makes a lovely continuation of the Nature All Around series. It is just long enough to be useful and just short enough to not over tire children's shorter attention spans.

This is a beautifully illustrated book that gives the chance for children to learn about plants in an easy to understand way. It breaks down how plants grow and what happens to them over the different seasons of the year. It has lots of different illustrations of plants with their common names and has an easy project for kids to do at the end of the book.
This book would be great for any kids interested in plants and nature and even I learnt a few new fun facts despite studying conservation myself.
It is best suited to North American readers though as the book has maps, plants and climates which are common to that region but aren't as relevant to readers in other parts of the world.

An introduction to flower plants, their basic structures, types, reproduction, and growth patterns. Also looks at some unusual flowering plants, and includes a guide to flower categories, leaf categories, and how to grow microgreens.

This is a pretty good survey of flowering plant information for any middle grade reader. (And that's coming from a former science teacher.) Also would be a great resource to have in a classroom that studies plants from 3rd-8th grade. The book does a good job of breaking down science information into easy to understand phrases, and does so very succinctly. The illustration style is attractive and clear enough you can still identify the plants it highlights. (Which is good, because some of the common names used weren’t ones I was familiar with…maybe they are the Canadian common names?) I liked that the book was broad enough it didn’t limit itself to being only useful in one biome. Recommended for curious kids, life science studiers, and future botanists.

I received an ARC of this title from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Nature All Around: Plants is one of the best books I have seen out there for children to learn the basics of botany. As a science minor in education, I can see so many benefits of including this book in your classrooms. The illustrations and descriptions are quite informative. The processes covered are illustrated with captions. The glossary is written with terminology perfect for young people. I absolutely love this book and will include it in my classroom, as an example of nonfiction writing for young people. Science classrooms everywhere should have access to this book! #NetGalley #Natureallaroundplants #Hottingerhighlights #botanyforkids #science #plants #nonfiction

Nature All Around: Plants is a picture book for kids about plants and the natural botanical world. Due out 7th April 2020 from Kids Can Press, it's 32 pages and will be available in hardcover format.

This is a science based factual book with a solid intro to botany including different classifications and structures (vascular vs. nonvascular, monocot vs. dicot, and more). The book asks and answers lots of questions: why are (most) leaves green, why do birds and insects like plants, what happens to plants in different seasons and climates, and lots of others. The illustrations are attractive and detailed and the text presents the concepts in an accessible and age appropriate manner.

This would make a great classroom library, public library, or homeschool library selection as well as a great gift for a youngster. There are a number of recommended activities included in the book as well as a short glossary and cross referenced index.

Well made and beautifully presented.

Four stars.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Nature All Around: Plants is a beautiful book written to educate children on the plants around them and inspire them to do their part and take care of them to the best of their ability. While I, personally, didn’t learn too terribly much from this book that I didn’t already previously know (Although, there were some fun facts that even I wasn’t aware of), Nature All Around: Plants would be an incredible and stunning addition to any classroom or school library.

Such a stunningly beautiful book!!!
The illustrations and the text that explains more about the plant's life are extraordinary.
I would really love to purchase a physical copy :D
Great job to Pamela Hickman and Carolyn Gavin, a superb team!

All about plants, their lives, photosynthesis, pollination, ideal habitats, seed spreading and seasonal plants. Guides to flower and leaf types as well as looking into endangered plants around and ones dying out too around the world. There's also a glossary of handy plant related words to help if you're unsure reading about certain parts but it's a great introduction to the world of nature and discovering plant types and how they look.

Many thanks to the publishers for allowing me to review this book for them!

A wide ranging overview of the plant world for younger grade kids. A lot of fascinating information is packed into just 36 pages. The full page illustrations are charming and lovely, but the smaller paintings meant to illustrate portions of the text were sometimes disappointingly simplistic, muddied, or unclear. Overall, a nice quick introduction suitable for a classroom nature corner.
Thanks to NetGalley and Kids Can Press for the early read.
