Be sure to put this book into your beach bag! It is the perfect combination of light enough to read out in the sun and with enough weight to engross you in the complex family dynamics that Delinsky expertly weaves.

Unfortunately, the synopsis sounded better than the book turned out to be. I found it very choppy and, in all honesty, boring. I had a really hard time getting through the first half and then I gave up. I've read books by this author in the past and have enjoyed them; this one just didn't do it for me.

Barbara Delinsky’s newest novel A Week at the Shore is a fantastic delight to readers. Set on Rhode Island’s idyllic coast a family drama and mystery unfold unlike one I’ve ever read. Mallory Aldiss finds herself returning to her family’s island home after a blast-from the past phone call tugs at her heart strings. Bringing along her daughter, single mom Mallory, is not eager to uncover what she’s tried so hard to forget. An ailing father who is tied up in the disappearance of a family friend, two complicated sisters, an estranged lover (whose mother happened to be the one that disappeared) and a town of old friends, Mallory is thrust back into a life she walked away from twenty years before. I loved the element of suspense, wondering what role each character might have played in the mysterious disappearance of Elizabeth twenty years before. Mallory’s complicated family dynamics and the realization that all she previously perceived might not have been accurate at all, create a dramatic and engaging novel. A Week at the Shore is the perfect novel to curl up with this Spring.
A sincere thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book was an enjoyable quick read for me. Although it deals with complex emotions and a tangled web of secrets within a family it was very interesting and kept my attention. The characters are flawed and complex but fairly normal. Some are more likable than others but I don't allow that to skew my perspective in a review.. That's what humans are -. all different - from the youngest sister who doesn't ever leave home to the older ones who never came back - until now. Ultimately this is a tale of a family that was once broken apart trying to mend fences., but . I won't give any spoilers about specific outcomes.. Needless to say there were some good twists and turns but it wrapped up well and I appreciated not being left hanging at the end.. If you are looking for humorous or a gripping thriller it is neither of those things but definitely a good story..

Another great book written by Barbara Delinsky! I enjoy all of her books. This book had a great, well written story line and easy to follow along with characters. Thank You for the opportunity to read and review this. I highly recommend this to everyone.

Barbara Delinsky is always one of my go-to authors when I want a book to lose myself in and A Week at the Shore fit the bill perfectly. This novel has all the drama you can throw at it but underneath it all, like with all of her novels, is a heart that is impossible to walk away from (for long).
I read this book in just over two days and haven't stopped thinking about the characters since then. They were so real I'd swear this was a biography and not fiction.
Highly recommended for anyone who needs a book to devour!
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an eARC copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

Many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the advance copy of A Week at the Shore by Barbara Delinsky.
A Week at the Shore takes us to a family beach house at the Rhode Island coast. Mallory has stayed away for 20 years and needless to say, there’s a reason she’s stayed away so long which we discover as she and her 2 estranged sisters all come together in a place full of memories - some nostalgic and some less so - as well as family drama.
True to form Delinsky, we meet nicely developed characters and will not like all of them. There’s family turmoil and pain to go through, and a few nice surprises just in case you think you know where it’s going.
Some of the story moved slow, then toward the end lots of things happen. I always love her writing, but will admit this one is’t a favorite because I don’t like being in the character’s head that much (lots of soul searching). While many of her books leave me wishing to continue with the characters, this isn’t one but you will enjoy it.

I have read a lot of Barbara Delinsky’s books and although not my favorite, the book was true to form of a typical Delinsky. This was a heartwarming story of family and different kinds of live, the live between a parent and child, the love of a child for a parent, sibling love and true love. The storyline was decent but drawn out and was a slow start, it picked up towards the end... this would be classified as the perfect beach read

Good Barbara Delinsky book. Some mystery surrounding story but mostly a family and relationship saga that satisfies.

I received a complimentary copy of this book through Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I guess since this book isn't published until May it should be described as a good beach read, but since I got an early review in winter, I would describe it as a great distraction from the gray and dreary weather outside. I can feel the warm sea breeze and picture the small beach town of Bay Bluff, Rhode Island with its vacation crowd wandering through the small shops on Main Street. But Mallory grew up in this town and is returning after twenty years to care for her father, who's showing the early signs of Alzheimers. She fled to New York twenty years before after a scandal happened between her father and her best friend Jack's mother, Elizabeth. She disappeared off the boat during a storm, never to be found. Was it murder or suicide? Mallory intends to find out before her father's memories are gone forever.

As she has for years this author create a world of emotion and depth. It moved slowly until all sisters are at the house. Famiky. Always interesting
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for this arc

I love Barbara Delinsky books and was excited to get an ARC from Netgalley for an honest review.
I had a hard time putting this book down. The relationships of the family members drew me in. I always enjoy books set on the shore (any shore). I felt like I was there as I read the descriptions of the area. If you're a fan of Barbara Delinsky this book won't disappoint.

I have read just about all of Barbara Delinsky's books. I was expecting this one to be a little more scandalous like her novel The Woman Next Door. Usually her books move at a fairly good pace but this one was a bit slow moving and never quite satisfied my need to have answers. With that said, I can still say that she is one of my favorites authors. She has a unique was of storytelling. I believe she builds her characters with great effort and thought. Her degrees in Psychology and Sociology lend a helping hand in the intricate nature she creates with really making the characters people we think we know in real life!
I do recommend this book as it is a story about family, past secrets ,and intimate relationships that have changed over time due to personalities, lies, and communication issues. We can all relate to Mallory and her sisters. There is such emotion going on within families and Barbara pulls out all the stops in this one.
Thanks to Netgalley, com for the ARC. I am always so appreciative for the opportunity to read, review, and recommend to others.

I love Barbara Delinsky's books and was very excited to read this one! It was a little hard to get into the story until almost 1/2 way through the book. While this is not one of my favorite books from Barbara Delinsky, I did enjoy the story as it explored the complex relationships between family, friends, and acquaintances. Just an FYI to other people this story deals with death and difficult relationships with parents.

I wanted some light to read in the run up to the holidays and I wanted something set by the beach to make me think of warm weather and salty skin rather than cold toes and wet, dark evenings. This book did not disappoint. The wonderful beach homes and sleepy seaside town described in the book was a long way from the main characters current life in New York. A horrible event changed the life of 3 sisters and their parents and forced them to take sides that many years later have not been changed. As her father ages, Mallory the middle sister feels it may be time to head home to help. She takes her tennage daughter with her who is desperate to know her family and falls in love with life by the beach. But can the dark, brooding neighbor Jack, let go of the events that lead up to the fateful event so long ago, forgive Mallorys family and will their connection be rekindled.
The fateful night sounded promising, a man and women go out on a boat and he comes back alone saying she fell overboard and her body is never recovered. It was deemed an accident but some can't believe it. The thread of the book is woven around this mystery and I enjoyed wondering what could have happened. Maybe my imagination got the better of me but I did feel let down by the end. The book was about friendship, family expectations and roles and secrets that always come out in the end, especially when people learn to talk and communicate with each other.
This was a great, easy read and I will certainly look out for her other books to enjoy. Thank you Netgalley for the ARC.

Barbara Delinsky does a great job exploring complex family relationships in this book. Moving forward in your life hinges on so much of your past and she does a tremendous job highlighting this fact. So many secrets have hindered the relationships of this broken family and their friends and lovers. The author fully explores all the characters feelings and emotions as we experience where life leads them in the end. Well done! Highly recommend! #AWeekattheShore #BarbaraDelinsky #NetGalley

Usually her books are engaging and great but this one doesn't quite make the mark. It starts at a reasonable pace then slows to a painful too much detail with the character being too much 'in her head' and lacked evoking emotion. A lot of minutia that could have been summed up much quicker. The past relationship of Mal and Jack and their initial phone call and meeting made it difficult to relate to them. The mystery part was a good storyline was good and finally started moving more toward the end of the book, it just took too long to get there. I read an uncorrected proof, not sure if it had been fully edited so maybe some changes will occur before final printing. It has potential of being good women's fiction if the characters could come to life before the last few chapters.
I received this book as a complimentary copy for an unbiased review. The opinions expressed are my own.

I love most of Author Delinsky's books, and I looked forward to this one. It did not disappoint. My goodness, from the first page, I could feel the sisters emotional turmoil and struggles with each other. We too often assume things about others, and our relationships with them, and in doing so, we often just make a mess of things. This book has twists and turns, and I kept reading to see where it would lead me, and in hopes that this family could find a way to get through their pasts to give themselves a better future. I loved this book and I thank St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for an advance read of A Week at the Shore in exchange for my honest review.

This book brings you on an emotional ride at the beach. The vivid descriptions bring you into the story and make you feel like you are there as well.
It took me a little while to get into this book, I'm not really sure why, usually Barbara Delinsky books hook me right away. However, once I got about 1/4 through it, I didn't want to put it down. The mystery began and the story sped up a lot.
I enjoyed this book and would recommend it.

Three sisters get together after a long estrangement to see their father, a once powerful judge, now with Alzheimer’s. Twenty years ago their father set out in a boat with their close neighbor and only he came back, which broke up the two families and for twenty years they’ve lived with suspicions, and the mystery of what actually happened that night. Mallory who lives in NY with her daughter Joy comes home after her ex boyfriend, Jack tells her she must come home.
I couldn’t bring myself to care for any of the characters so I was never fully invested in the story. They all seemed selfish and self serving, and the mystery is never fully solved. I always look forward to Delinsky’s books, but this one was only so-so.
