A Week At The Shore is Barbara Delinsky at her best !
Complex relationships, going back into the past to help
One go forward !
This is the story of Mallory and her daughter Joy and a family secret, that needs to be brought to light.
Mallory returns home after 20 years to hopefully finally get the answers to the disappearance of their neighbor, who just happens to be the mother of her childhood crush !
I enjoyed this book, the story, and I swear I could smell the salt air and hear the waves as I turned the pages !
Thank you to Barbara Delinsky , Netgalley and the publisher got my advanced reading copy

I enjoyed this book. The character of Anne was written a little too over-the-top in this story - the quintessential baby of the family, the caretaker of her ailing father, not including the other sisters in decisions surrounding his condition. There was also a decades-old mystery, the disappearance of a neighboring woman who coincidentally was romantically linked to both the father AND mother of the sisters featured in this story. I would have preferred had her story been resolved one way or another, because while this story line is prevalent in the book, not having it fully resolved takes away from the rest of the characters. What was the point of having Elizabeth disappear and all the descriptions and lead-up into figuring out what happened only for it to never pan out?

That being said, I did enjoy this book and would definitely read another by the author.

I appreciated the stories of three sisters as told through Mallory's eyes that wanted not for naught but an emotional connection and a feeling of family. This was a well written bok that delivered suspense, love and hope and the ability to realize what was truly important regardless of appearance (ie Bill and Guy)

I think this is the best book I have read in ages. There are complex characters, a complex plot, moving moments, hair-tear-out moments, and, through it all a current of love. It is a love of sisters-messy and broken and the love of a man and woman separated by hurt and angry words.
It is a definite buy me, re-read me novel-way above a five star rating.

A Week at the Shore by Barbara Delinsky has a murder mystery, lost loves found, estranged siblings, father with a progressive illness, family drama and so many issues and relationships it is hard to keep them all straight. Unfortunately, the characters weren't very likeable, so it was hard to stay interested in the story. Ms Delinsky's fans will no doubt enjoy the story which as always is well written.

Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.

This is the story of 3 sisters drawn back to their childhood beach house where their father is forgetting things. One sister lives with their father and runs a breakfast and lunch restaurant in town. One sister lives in New York with her 13 year old daughter and the other sister lives in Chicago with her husband and 2 sons. A lot of stuff needs to be discussed and worked out and it's not all pleasant, but they are determined to get along for their father...

At The Shore is a great read. It definitely built up the suspense, and curiosity of wanting to keep turning pages, to get the answers. I truly wanted to find out what happened so long ago. Alas it was not to be. I’m hoping there is a sequel. The book was great. For plot to almost ending. I hate how it ended because it left so many questions.

This interesting novel of Mallory and her daughter, Joy, returning to her roots and finding her entire life changed in a few days. The setting is a seaside community in Rhode Island which Mallory has deigned to visit after an unfortunate incident blew up her life.

I had to admire her for building a life, having a child and becoming a successful photographer, despite being so detached from her home and family. Her relationship with her father had always been especially fraught and painful, yet it is his decline that served as a catalyst for her return.

I found the first three quarters of the book really engaging as we watched the family go through turmoil and try to unfurl all the twists that had pulled them into a confused morass of anger and misunderstanding. The author has made the last quarter of the book, which occurs in an unbelievable rush in a few days, too full of coincidences and life changing events. Rather than closure, it simply is confusing and overdone. The pace should have been slowed down or one ridiculous coincidence removed. This would be a terrific book if the author (whose work I usually love) was more constrained and the pacing more realistic.

Thank you Netgalley for the privilege of reading this newest Delinsky novel.

Mallory and her daughter Joy venture back to the town where Mallory grew up and where her father and one of her sisters still live. She catches up on those key relationships, after being gone for years, watches Joy blossom with these relationships, and also catches up with an old flame. There is family drama, some investigating and stories to solve, and relationships to watch. This book felt a little long/slow to me.

Struggled a bit to get into this one, not sure if it is the jumping back and forth of time, or didn't like the characters or all of the above. Many of the other reviewers liked this author, and while I didn't have any other books to compare it with I struggled with this one. Not a bad book, but so many characters I kept getting sidetracked. Would recommend if you like puzzles and mysteries from the past coming to light.

I received a copy of this arc from NetGalley for an honest review. If it weren't for Thanksgiving and my job I would have read this book in one sitting. I loved it immediately. I really liked the characters and the setting of this book and I loved that I could not figure out what happened to one of the characters. I did not see some of the twists coming which I loved and I really liked that I could not figure other things out until the very end. Great Read!!!

It has been awhile since I read a novel by Barbara Delinsky. After reading A Week at the Shore, I will be playing catch-up to read the ones that I have not yet read.

I read this book in a couple days. It is very interesting and thus hard to put down. The story is complex with surprising twists and many subplots. The book shows the challenges and heartache of dealing with a relative with potential Alzheimer’s disease. It reflects the challenges many siblings face in taking care of a family member and the resentment that can arise when one sibling feels more burdened with that care.

The story also depicts the relationship between Mallory and Jack, young lovers who separated for 20 years and found their way back to each other. I wish more time was spent on the reunion in the final chapter. Perhaps I feel this way as I wanted to continue reading this very intriguing book and one that I strongly recommend. The writing is descriptive and draws you in. Take a read, you will not be disappointed.

I received an advanced readers copy from NetGalley.

This story is about family and how family deals with parents getting older and with their own personal problems. I liked both the characters and the story line.

First book of this authors that I’ve read in awhile. I enjoyed the story but wasn’t quite ready for it to end. I had a hard time putting it down! It would make a perfect beach read. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the early copy

A combination of estranged family, a bit of mystery, a little romance along with some old scandal make this an outstanding book. Barbara Delinsky has written another book that gives readers insight into the way one family and their estranged neighbor deal with what life has dealt them. Mallory, along with her daughter Joy, travel to her hometown after a disturbing call about her father’s behavior and the way her sister is handling the situation. Readers are drawn into this real-life story that is so well written you feel you are part of their family. This is a book not to be missed. I received an advanced reader copy of this book from NetGalley and St Martin’s Press. All opinions stated are my own.

Barbara Delinsky has been a favorite author of mine for many years. She does not disappoint with her later, "A Week at the Shore." Three sisters reunite at their family home in Rhode Island and it is not an easy reunion. Interesting questions are brought up, interesting dynamics are studied. I enjoyed every word.

A Week At the Shore is the best kind of fiction...asking serious questions to guide readers into a deeper understanding. When Jack’s phone call brings Mallory back to the hometown she and her oldest sister have avoided for 20 years there are lots of questions, about the father whose memory is failing, about the family friend who fell overboard while sailing with her dad, about the boy she once loved, about why she always had to assume the role of peacemaker. Not wanting to give spoilers, my recommendation is to read the description and then read the story. Once started this is a hard book to close for even a short period. Fans of the author’s know her descriptive prose will suck readers in and hold them hostage until the very last period. Her characters have a depth often lacking in other reads. Her command of grammar will make you cheer. Her endearing plot will have new readers looking for additional stories. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book from NetGalley. Most highly recommend.

Mallory hasn’t been back to her family’s beach home in Rhode Island for twenty years. Her parents ugly break-up pushed her away from her home, her sister and the young man she loved. Now, she’s back with her thirteen year old daughter, Joy. Joy is desperate for family and can’t wait to see the place her mother grew up and meet her aunt and grandfather. Of course, nothing will be easy for Mal or her sister, but in the end, family is worth the struggle. Delinsky understands family dynamics the way few other authors do, reading her books always gives me hope

I have loved the work of this author for years. This book-leave out the language please. There are so many characters one might make a list. The one character that is the most appealing is the teenager. The others make so many mistakes and use such poor judgment that one wonders what next?. The underlying story of the illness of the father is a common theme in many books now. Insidious disease. Readers may relate. It is written with expertise! The finding of lost loves is repetitive. Fans of Delinsky will remain faithful and parts of the story will resonate with her readers. Just not one of the best. This is not a beach read.
