A beach setting, strife with family drama. This dysfunctional family reunited at their family home and unpacks years of miscommunications and baggage. I was hoping for more of a beach read and there was just so much heavy life stuff packed into this plot that it didn’t really work for me. I enjoyed the characters and the idyllic setting. However, this book has gobs of unnecessary dialogue and eventually so much drama that it becomes too much. I found myself skimming by the end. My thanks to the publisher for this advance reader in exchange for my honest review.

“A Week at the Shore” was a well written novel that I couldn’t put down. I could easily identify with the characters and felt like I had slipped onto the shore with the. Families bring an interesting dynamic to life and sisters are no exception! A great book to curl up with .

Another good Barbara Delinsky story, I always enjoy her writing. This is a great beach read with a wonderful depiction of a dysfunctional family consisting of three very different sisters that all come back home for their estranged father’s last days. The entire book takes place within one week and it was hard to envision that all of this happens in seven days.
I love the way she sets the stage; you just sit back and listen to how a long-lost love, one unsolved mystery, an ambitious photographer, a hometown restaurant owner and an eccentric old judge come together to hash out a lifetime of memories, feelings and misunderstandings. This is a heartfelt story explaining the realization of what is truly important in our lives, the importance of family. I recommend.
I was very excited to be allowed an ARC from St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for my honest unbiased review. This one earns 5 stars.

Beautifully written story about sisters, lost love and a daughter becoming reacquainted with her mother's family and friends.

A Week at the Shore is another story filled with heart and family by Barbara Delinsky. I've always enjoyed this author's books and if you like them or books by Debbie Macomber you'll probably love this.

The characters are well rounded, real seeming and ones that I found myself empathizing with. I loved the interactions between the two sisters and Mallory's daughter.

Thank you to Netgalley, the pubisher, and author for approving my request for an ARC. All thoughts in this review are mine and freely provided.

I really enjoyed this book, like most of Ms. Delinsky's books. It doesn't quite qualify as a fun beach read as there are some heavy topics revolving around the family interaction. But still a great read.

This book was a good read....and disappointing at the same time! I can't believe it took the whole book to find out who Mallory's father was and then we never find out what happened to Elizabeth!?!?!? I enjoyed reading the book, but I hate not really having an ending!

Delinsky's A Week at the Shore is a tangled complicated read. Mallory fled her hometown when her parents' marriage broke up after a summer catastrophe. A phone call from her old flame sends her back to the shore, seeking answers, mending fences, and uncovering new revelations. The book is about secrets, atonement, estrangement, loss, lies, and forgiveness. The ending was just right. My faculties characters were Joy and Jack. One week at the shore can be life altering.

Another wonderful book about family dynamics by Barbara Delinsky. Mallory has not been back to her family home in Rhode Island in twenty years, so her thirteen year old daughter has never been there nor met her grandfather. After a call from the neighbor about her father's behavior, her daughter convinces her to go for a week.

This book has sibling angst between three grown sisters, their father who is a retired judge, a teenage daughter, and a hunky former boyfriend next door. The dynamics between them all is well written. You will want to read this book to see how how it all works out.

I received a copy from St. Martin's Press through NetGalley to review the book, but I would have read it anyway.

After 20 years three sisters are reunited after one received a disturbing phone call about the actions of her father. This leads to a revelation for all parties. The search is on to discover what happened 20 years ago, on a boat in a storm, when one woman falls overboard and is assumed dead.

Lies are unearthed, secrets uncovered, and lost lives are found as two families try to heal from the past. A great story set in Westerly, RI on the shore. The sights and sounds of a small tourist town come alive in Delinsky's story. All in all, a great read.

I received a free ARC eBook from Net Galley and the publisher in exchange for my honest opinions.

I requested this one from St. Martin’s because I always love their books. After 20 years away, Mallory and her 13-year-old daughter head back to her hometown. To the memories she’s left behind and to her sister Anne that has taken care of her father all these years. But some big revelations get uncovered, ones that can hurt and take some time to heal from. All three sisters need to learn to put the past behind them and get back to being sisters.

This was a slow read for me in the beginning. I felt a lot of time was spent on mundane things that didn’t move the story forward. Also, the third sister Margo wasn’t as detailed as the other two, and she felt a bit like an add-on character. So I wasn’t too invested with what was going on with her. But I enjoyed both Mallory and Anne’s characters, even if they made some bad decisions. I think it’s really easy to want to never return to your hometown, especially a small one where everyone knows everyone and their secrets. The message of forgiveness and healing is strong throughout the book. Overall, this was an enjoyable read.

I always love a Barbara Delinsky book and her newest book is no exception. She has written an amazing story about an extremely disfunctional family with very strong female characters. The main character has some really bad memories to get past in order to come together with her family, but like every good mother she puts the needs and wants of her child ahead of her own. It always makes it interesting when there is a long ago love who reenters the picture. This story has a great main story and lots of sub stories that intricately weave their way through the main story. It will be a thoroughly enjoyable read for anyone who loves Barbara Delinsky books or who is looking for a new author.

Mallory returns to her family home in Rhode Island. She hasn’t been back in 20 years. She goes back because her Father is ill and she wants answers to some questions that tore the family apart. This book was very slow moving and I found myself skimming parts. It is full of family drama and there is a mystery that Mallory wants resolved. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

After twenty years of being away from Bay Bluff Rhode Island, Malory with her daughter return to her old home and her father with Alzheimer's.. The scandal that made her flee still remains and seems to be lurking again with her former neighbor and boyfriend..As Mal is reunited with her two sisters many secrets and mysteries come to light, but will the truth surface after all these years? True to Barbara Delinsky's superb storytelling with romance and mystique' A Week at the Shore is a reader's delight.

With Barbara Delinsky novels time swiftly passes as the reader immerses themselves in the story.  A Week at the Shore is no exception. Lots of family dynamics and some romance thrown in makes this story difficult to put down. Fair warning, there may also be a few tears. I want to thank Net Galley and St. Martin's Press for an early copy of this book to review.

An enjoyable read that captures your attention from the first chapter...and does not let go until the final page. Savor this story...you will not be disappointed.

I have been a fan of Barbara Delinsky"s books for years and the novels have never failed to disappoint me. The synopsis of a A Week at the Shore excited me and I was so looking forward to reading the entire book. I was sorely disappointed. The first half of the novel moves very slowly with the development of the characters who I could not get invested with, I am sorry to say that this book does not live up to Ms. Delinsky's previous work. Thank you NetGalley for the Advanced Reader Copy of this book!

A terrific book about Mallory Aldiss, a woman living in NY who receives a phone call from a man she once loved telling her she should return home to help deal with her father. It seems that Mallory's father is suffering from dementia and was found waving a gun around spewing information about the night that a woman died years ago. Mallory left her hometown of Bay Bluff, RI after Jack's mother died, while boating with Mallory's father. It is ultimately what ripped Jack and Mallory apart and sent her fleeing to NY to start a new life. Mallory's daughter, Joy is delighted to spend a week at Bay Bluff with her Aunt Anne and her grandfather. Mallory isn't so sure, but she knows she needs to go to help Anne, to help her father, and also to try to find out why her father has always treated her a bit differently than his other two daughters. The week is filled with drama and intrigue.
What follows is a beautifully written story with great characters. It's a perfect beach read for this summer!

It’s been awhile since I read a Barbara Delinsky book but this book made me want to go back and read them all! A Week at the Shore has great characters, mystery and a love story. My only complaint was that it left me wanting more of an ending. Maybe there will be a sequel?

A Week at the Shore is a family drama with all the baggage that comes with an event which tears a family apart and forces three daughters to choose sides following their parents divorce. An unsolved mystery and the news that Mallory’s father is slipping into dementia brings Mallory and her teenage daughter Joy home to Bay Bluff, Rhode Island.

Her relationship with her father is complex. Mal, a middle child, has always felt other, disliked by her father for no apparent reason. She has spent her adult life keeping her distance from him. She and her older sister Margo stayed in contact with their mother after their parents divorced and distanced themselves from their dad. Youngest sister Anne chose to stay behind in Bay Bluff, starting her own business and doing her best for her dad as he slips from domineering Judge into a confused and fear-filled old man.

As beach reads go, this is a long book. Delinsky takes her time exploring family dynamics, unsolved mysteries and old relationships renewed. The strained relationship between the sisters kept me turning pages even if I wasn’t overly fond of living inside the mind of Mallory. Mallory’s relationship with her daughter is special, then falls by the wayside as Mallory reconnects with an old flame from her childhood. Those seven days at the shore seem to last for weeks and I found myself losing interest in the mysteries of the past, along with my curiosity to see how things would resolve for the families involved in the present.

Immersive yes, memorable, not so much. I suppose that does make it the perfect beach read.
