Great book, wish I had been able to read it at a beach!
This is a story of love, family, lies, secrets and betrayal. Above all it is about finding forgiveness even if you still don't have all the answers.
Three sisters reunite at their childhood home where their father suffers a heart attack and dies. With his death dies all the secrets they think he kept, and all the questions they had about their mother, and the accidental death of their long time neighbor. Some secrets come to light, others will never be revealed, but can the sisters move beyond their past and form a future with each other?
Great characters, including the dog, Guy!

A Week at the Shore By Barbara Delinsky Finished March 8, 2020

I am a big fan of author, Barbara Delinsky! This is my 11th novel.

This story starts out a bit slow and didn’t grab me right off. However, I didn’t let that bother me as I have read enough Delinsky novels to know, she usually comes up with some surprises!

Story stars with Mallory Aidiss returning to her childhood home on the Rhode Island shore with her daughter Joy. Joy is thirteen and has never met her grandfather and is anxious to see him.
Mallory, however, is reluctant about returning to old memories, secrets as well as the scandal of her parents’ divorce. Her father and sister still live in Bay Bluff and Mallory is called home regarding her father’s health.

Ms. Delinsky did throw in those surprises that I was expecting. However on the whole I was a tad disappointed with this… “family drama”. I wanted to love it ~ who doesn’t look forward to a week at the shore?
The characters were interesting ~ Joy .lived up to her name!
Perhaps if the novel was not quite so long it would have gotten to the point quicker. I know it would have been a more enjoyable read for me.
I am still a big fan and look forward to Ms. Delinsky’s next novel. 

Want to thank NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for this ARC granted in exchange for an honest review.

I used to love Barbara Delinsky, so I thought I would give this book a try. My reading tastes must have changed, because I was unable to get into it. I just felt like nothing happened. It was well-written though, so fans of women's fiction would probably enjoy it.

I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for a review. Honestly, I had high hopes for this book, since I’ve enjoyed other books from this author. I was looking forward to a book with a beautiful setting, which it did have, and a good plot, which the book seemed to have. However, the story seemed to ramble on and on without really going anywhere. I could not finish this book.

When I sit down to read a Barbara Delinsky book, I know I’ll never be disappointed. She always writes such heartwarming stories that grab your attention and tug at your heartstrings. A Week At the Shore is no different. The characters involved feel like family and the location of the story at their Rhode Island beach home is nothing short of beautiful. It centers around Mallory, the middle daughter, who after 20 years of running from her past, returns home to check in on her father after receiving an alarming phone call from his next door neighbor. It’s a story of family, of sisterhood. It’s about learning who you are and where you’ve come from, acceptance and forgiveness and learning to live for today by putting the past behind you. I enjoyed reading this immensely and was very happy with the way the story ended. It’s women’s fiction with a touch of romance involved. I’d like to thank NetGalley and Alexis Neuville at St. Martin’s Press for inviting me to read and review an arc. I loved this story and give it 5 stars!

A WEEK AT THE SHORE by Barbara Delinsky is a captivating and heartfelt novel of family, friendship and new beginnings. Twenty years have passed since a tragic event at her family’s RI beach home in Bay Bluff drove Mallory Aldiss and her two sisters apart and shattered her relationship with her high school boyfriend, Jack Sabathian. Now living in New York City and raising her teenage daughter Joy on her own, Mallory receives a troubling phone call from Jack that compels her to return to Bay Bluff and confront her father’s declining health and diminishing memory, as well as the conflicts and scandal that have kept her estranged from her family for so long. Told entirely from Mallory’s point of view, the story explores a family torn apart by long-buried secrets and the aftermath of decisions made in the heat of the moment. Can they ever solve the mystery of what happened that fateful night and find closure and forgiveness? The characters are wonderfully-portrayed and very relatable. The descriptions of the setting made me feel like I was right there with the characters. The perfect blend of mystery, family drama and romance kept me engaged from beginning to end. I enjoyed this latest novel by Barbara Delinsky and definitely recommend it. Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the chance to read an early copy.

Relationships will change forever when three sisters reunite at the family's Rhode Island beach house. Mallory Aldiss fled years ago, amid scandal and heartbreak, and is not anxious to return to all of that. Her daughter, Joy, however, is desperate to go and find the family she's always craved.

Barbara Delinsky is a wise and lyrical writer, and this book will delight fans of Jodi Picoult, Mary Alice Monroe, and Patti Callahan Henry. Recommended.

I have to admit that I can be a bit of a snob when it comes to my reading preferences. So, I wasn't quite sure about this book because I always associated the author with romance. Well, if this is what romance is like now, count me in, lol!

Mallory has left her Rhode Island beach home years ago amidst a scandal...a scandal that had many ramifications. She has formed a new life and has a teenage daughter and things seem to be going smoothly. until she receives a phone call that brings her back home.

Once home, things come flooding back...secrets, sadness, joy and scandals as well. She wonders where her real home is and if she should stay or go back to NY.

A great read and one I thoroughly enjoyed.

No one writes about family dysfunction and forgiveness like Barbara Delinsky. Returning home after 20 years to help her sister with their father, who is in failing health due to Alzheimer’s, Mallory is forced to confront the reasons she left in the first place. She and her two sisters have been at arm’s length since a scandal destroyed their family’s ideal life in a small beach town in Rhode Island. Now with a 13 year old daughter, conceived from a sperm donor, Mallory must confront the reasons she has been ignoring her past which include her high school sweetheart, questions about her paternity and the mystery surrounding the death of her mother’s best friend. As only Delinsky can, the characters are well developed, full of flaws that are recognized in all of us. An excellent book.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Barbara Delinsky and St. Martin's Press. I've read Barbara Delinsky's books before but it's been a while, and enjoyed them, this one did not disappoint. I could not put this book down. Just wow, it hits personal relationships on so many levels. Very well written, this is a five star for sure. The way Barbara writes, she makes you lose yourself in the characters, you feel part of the story. This is such a beautifully written story about mother and daughter, sisters, parents, friends and love. Obstacles that present themselves in our lives and decisions made. There are aspects that relate so well to our daily lives. I highly recommend this novel and would read it again, I laughed and cried and all the emotions in between.

This book is the perfect poolside or beach read! A family drama with angsty characters and a touch of romance and Rhode Island in the background is the perfect combination. I am a fan of Delinsky and was pleased that the same standard I have come to count on in women's fiction is alive and well. This book will please long-time readers and will draw new fans!

Barbara Delinsky's books are always wonderful emotional novels. In A wWeek At The Shore, three sisters travel back to the beach where a tragedy took place some 20 years ago. A true family tale, it delves into the constantly changing relationships of a family. The well-developed characters are three sisters who need to confront their shared past in order to move forward. I love the dialogue and the author does a fantastic job with the interplay of mystery and romance. It was a great escape novel to the beach in late February for me. I definitely recommend this book.

I would like to thank the author/publisher/Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book and exchange for a fair and honest review.

A week at the beach doesn't seem like much time for three sisters to come together to face and solve family secrets and mysteries. Twenty years ago, their parents split up due to a tragic event and now that their father is suffering from Alzheimer's if they want answers they need to get them now. Enjoyable but rather slow moving story.

***I received a free copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

A Week at the Shore by Barbara Delinsky is a little bit mystery, a little bit romance, and quite a bit of family drama. Mallory left home 20 years ago and has never returned until now. Jack's mom disappeared 20 years ago and he hasn't spoken to Mallory again until now. One phone call from Jack makes Mallory realize it's time to return home to her father and sister to address concerns about her father.

This story is told from Mallory's point of view. She is a single mom and very independent from her family. There are a number of issues in this family. When Mallory returns home with her daughter, Joy, she must face her feelings about her father, Jack, and the secrets revolving around Jack's missing mom. There are quite a few secrets between a father and his three daughters.

I felt the beginning of the book moved very slowly for me. I had trouble connecting with the characters. The last 25% was great and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I have been a fan of Barbara Delinsky since early 1980s. Happy to read this new book.

Trip to Bay Bluff, Rhode Island, reunion of 3 sisters at beach house after being gone 20 years.

Born a middle child, you have peripheral vision -
awareness of older and younger siblings, parents, home
and your place in all.
Sometimes, going back takes us forward!

Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for allowing me to read an advance copy of this book for an honest review. This story is about 3 sisters who grew up on a beach in Rhode Island. After a terrible incident, their lives go in different directions. Mallory ends up leaving the love of her life due to unanswered questions. 20 years later,. Mallory and her daughter Joy take a trip to Rhode Island after an unexpected phone call. Throughout the next week relationships are mended, questions are answered, hearts are broken and put back together again. I enjoyed this book but felt that there was a “hole” left at the end of the story.
