In the Lion's Den is a beautifully written book that comes alive and you feel that you are right there in Victorian England with the Falconers and the Malverins.

James story continues as he learns , makes mistakes and you cant help but turn the pages to see what will happens .

I wont give anything away but you will be waiting for book 3 to see how James's story continues. I cant wait !! First in line !!

Although you can read In The Lions Den as a stand alone, I would recommend you read book 1 first.

Barbara Taylor never fails to entertain and provide a great story. (Women of Substance is still one of my favourites).

Thanks to NetGalley and St Martin's Press for the opportunity to spend some time with James once again.

Received from Net Gallery, found this in the Chapter 23 at the end of the chapter, this I think it's wrong. I have copied it for you.(“I’ll start ternight, sir, if yer’ll tell the boss that’s on now.”“I will speak to him immediately.”\Joe took hold of Joe’s arm lightly/ and led him across the arcade, heading for Jameson. Natalie followed slowly. She felt a sudden sense of relief. She had often thought the arcade was too exposed. When it was finally finished, it would have an iron gate with a lock at each end, full security. ( it is where Joe takes Joe's arm and the part of go) I know the book has already come out,did anyone else see this? Anyway,Have read both books and I so very much enjoyed the series. I was so caught up in All the characters lives they came alive for me. Very well written can feel the emotions that the characters go through, that's very hard to do for you to feel what they are experiencing. I got a late start in reading this book cause I wanted to read the first one first and I'm so glad I did! I really think the books will go far! Lived the history sounding the story !! Much research you can tell went into the book and All the different areas three book covered in England.

I voluntarily read this ARC for an honest review
All thoughts and opinions are mine

This is the second book in a series
I had not read the first book but didn't feel I missed out on anything and read it as a stand alone - which worked for me

I thought the characters were great - set in Victorian England - I found it atmospheric

I have always enjoyed reading this author and this certainly did not disappoint
I now need to catch up with the first one ready for number 3

This book was addicting. You wanted to continue reading even long after it was over. The characters felt so real and relatable, and the story was so original.

This second book in the House of Falconer series is a nice follow-up to the first book in the series. I enjoyed it. In this book, James Falconer's story continues as he ages a bit and establishes himself in the business world. His romantic life is also explored, and the author nicely keeps you guessing as to who he ends up with by the end of the book.

This book reminded me a lot of the Woman of Substance books Ms. Bradford wrote several years ago. It's great light reading, set in the 1890's of Victorian England and complete with luscious settings. The sex in this book is a bit more risqué than Ms. Bradford's previous books, and I appreciate that she's keeping up with the times. Highly recommended for longtime readers of Barbara Taylor Bradford.

Barbara Taylor Bradford continues the saga of James Falconer.
A story that takes place in the late 1800s of an honorable young man, James Falconer, who is about to become 21. His dream of great success as a merchant prince is his driving force. He has an amazing business acuity to accomplish his dream and works hard with great kind leadership qualities. A dream of finding a woman to love and respect and maybe start a family. He has to overcome many set backs to his desires of getting started growing his empire and love slips through his fingers. Not a lot of drama or excitement but shows strength of character, passionate drive. Thank you NetGalley, Barbara Taylor Bradford and St, Martins Press New York for this ARC. This is my honest opinion.

I wasn't crazy about this book. The story was just "okay" and it seemed like a really long book. The story went on and on. James, the main character, took most of the book deciding who it was he was interested in. It also jumped from character to character almost randomly, which made it seem like a really long book. I probably won't read this one again.

Set in Victorian England this is the story of James Falconer .It is the second in a series.
James falls in love with Alexis in this book. A deadly fire almost ends his business.
Book is very descriptive and very detailed in Victorian customs and daily life.
I would definitely recommend reading book 1 before this as some parts of the story had me wondering what was going on.
Thankyou Netgalley for this ARC

The second book in this series does not disappoint. The author has a good grasp on Victorian places and people. The backstory of the merchant industry is interesting. I look forward to seeing what happens to James and Alexis in the next book.

The House of Falconer #2

James and his Uncle are back in the second House of Falconer book. While his uncle is busy with the newspaper, James has gone from working in the shop of Henry Malvern to being Malverns managing director.

From 1889 to 1892 we watch as James goes through the good, the bad and the jaw-dropping with all of the poise we love him for. As his feelings toward Alexis go from disapproval to romance. But James has recently been in touch with Georgina Ward and she has a secret to share.

All at once his carefully plotted life plan is turned upside down. The question is will he be the better for it or not.

I would recommend reading book one first, so you know the backstory.  Has there ever been a bad BTB book? NO.

I hope we will see more of this character!

Well Done!

I requested an received an advance copy of the novel from Netgalley. This is the second book of the House of Falconer. I had previously read the first book and throughly enjoyed it. The second book did not disappoint and am anxiously waiting for the next book. Even though it is a second book , it can be read as a stand alone.
It is a historical novel . Main characters are the Malverins and Falconers families with a couple of other families. In the Lion's Den , the focus is on Alexis Malverin and James Falconer. I really enjoyed James character and the way he handled business. The book is well written with great character development.
I have always enjoyed reading Ms. Bradford's novels.

2nd book in the House of Falconer series, by a very popular and excellent storyteller. I didn't read the first book, which I wish I would have. This book can stand alone, but I feel I lost out on some of the details the might be important. Lots of characters and a lot of description, which I am not a huge fan of. I become disinterested quickly when I have to work too hard to remember who characters are. Thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for the opportunity to read an advance copy.

In The Lion's Den is the very much-anticipated second book in the Barbara Taylor Bradford saga House of the Falconer. I didn't think it was possible to like a character more than Blackie O'Neill from A Woman of Substance (1979) , but I absolutely adore James Falconer from this new series. My love of all things written by Barbara Taylor Bradford started in 1979 and her latest book is truly captivating--everything I was waiting for and more after reading the first in the series. No one tells a story, writes better historical fiction, or keeps a reader on the edge of their seat whether it's romance, family business, or climbing out of poverty like Barbara Taylor Bradford does. Set in Victorian England, the attention spent on detail makes the reader feel as if they are right there. I highly recommend this book to all readers. Special thanks to St. Martin's Press & NetGalley for providing a copy of this book for review.

I'm no stranger to the books of Barbara Taylor Bradford. I opened this novel and right from the first there was a cast of characters that were overwhelming. Not having read the first book in the series I didn't know what I would find. I found that I didn't care for the book at all. I'm not opposed to lengthy stories, in fact I usually dive right into them. Yet this book at 512 pages wasn't going to "tempt" me. Over the top descriptions, over the top list of characters....all said "no thank you" after trying to warm up to it after several chapters. To be honest, for me, after the Emma Hart series, this author seemed to be trying to hard, the words didn't flow in any of them. My thanks to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I’m a little biased because I’ve love everything Barbara Taylor Bradford writes. The second in the series about James Falconer, it is well written and I throughly enjoyed it.
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

I was disappointed in this book. I have read many other books by Ms Bradford, and this book does not match the quality of her other books. This book follows the slow but steady life of James Falconer, a successful businessman. Most of the book was boring, as it followed James with his family and friends. The only “excitement” in the book was at the end, although it was an expected ending. I received an advanced copy of this book from Goodreads and St Martin’s Press. All opinions are my own.
