This is a cute middle grade read. It has all the important elements of a wholesome children's early reader novel. It focuses on a precocious little girl trying to solve a mystery. The mystery is cute and reveals itself slowly as Libbie goes about her life. The story has strong family dynamics and emphasizes respect and caring for the elderly. It also has cute cultural elements from the 1940s, 1950s, lots of focus on horses and the unique setting of Mackinac Island. This was definitely a fun, easy read.
