I like this cookbook because I love how approachable the cooking style is. The recipes are simple, yet delicious—you really want to make everything in the book. Great way to eat healthy!
great book for simple meal prep to help stay on track while dieting. I did not find a lot of new recipes but everything included in the book had easy to follow directions with meals that are easy to prepare ahead of time. Great resource for those wanting or needing to have meals on the ready too stay focused on their diet throughout the week.
I received a copy of this arc from NetGalley for an honest review. I did have a chance to go through this book, however, I would prefer to have a physical copy that I can mark up and use. There are many excellent recipes with easy to find ingredients that I plan to try.
Thanks to Netgalley for an advanced reader copy. This book was perfect for our New Years resolution for cooking more at home and bringing our lunch to work so that we eat healthier as our wedding approaches. This has tons of good recipes that are full of flavor!!
I really liked a lot of the recipes and found them to be easy to follow in my day to day. This was a great introduction to different techniques of meal prepping from snacks to lunch to dinner. Searching through the cookbook for food that would interest me was difficult because there was not as many pictures as I am used to from a cookbook.
I have never been much into advance meal prepping, but this book makes it look easy. Planning ahead to eat healthfully should naturally result in healthier meals, too, rather than the impulse buy.
This is a handy, straight-forward guide to meal prepping, focusing on meal prep tips for those who want to lose weight. I think this would be a really helpful book for those who are new to meal prep. It would also be a good starting point for people who want to eat healthier but are overwhelmed by the super-specialized world of diet books today.
I (and my husband) really liked several recipes and found them super easy to follow.
I had a tough time time to visualize or mentally imagining without photos for many recipes.
Overall the calories, fat, carbs, fiber, proteins, and sodium are listed at the bottom of each page to support variety of diets.
The biggest reason I wanted to try out this cookbook was because I'm tired of taking sandwiches to work for lunch. The idea of making meals on the weekend for the entire week has a great deal of appeal for me. Some of the meals were so simple that it doesn't take any time at all to make them.
While nutrition information is included, and I like that!, the serving sizes range from 3 in some recipes to 24 for muffin cups. I think that is just a bit too much of a difference to easily work with. The recipes sound so appealing, that i'll have to do the math, but I think a cookbook author should try harder to make recipes that have no more than 4 or 6 servings.
Good meal ideas, tons of tips, lots of food information.
Thanks to author, publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book. While I got the book for free,it had no bearing on the rating I gave it.
I'm sure I'm not the only person out there who *wants* to eat healthier, but gets overwhelmed trying to put together healthy meals and winds up just hitting Taco Bell at lunch. I like that these new books are coming out with meal prep strategies and plans, and I am totally eating them up.
This one is very handy, especially in it's ebook format, which makes link hopping much easier.
I'll be learning from it, for sure. ...but after Thanksgiving, of course.
This was a good book to explore. Handful of tips. Good easy and not so easy recipes. The biggest thrill was the fact that I could read it through my Kindle. Recommended for beginners or advanced chiefs!
This book is well organized and easy to follow. Information is provided on equipment as well as weekly plans and grocery lists. Even better is the step-by-step guide for preparing a group of meals in one day. One thing that I particularly like is the fact that storage tips are provided. When you are doing meal prep, it is important to know whether the prepped meals will freeze well. The structure of the book makes it easy for someone to develop a meal plan of their own based on the recipes. Another positive is that the ingredients are items that can be found easily at your local grocery store and something that you are likely to use on more than one occasion. The book also considers special eating plans such as dairy-free, gluten-free, soy-free and Mediterranean. Because there are substitutions listed when possible, I believe there is something in here for everyone. Thank you to NetGalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book.
Thank you NetGalley for an advanced copy of Meal Prep for Weight Loss.
One of the things I dread most on a Sunday is meal=prepping. I hate making things in bulk, especially if I'm trying a recipe for the first time. I'm incredibly picky so when I make things in bulk, and then don't like it, I end up wasting the rest... However, this book has some really tasty-sounding (not tasty-looking since there aren't many pictures) that I look forward to trying.
Meal Prep for Weight Loss is a tutorial and recipe guide for weight loss written and curated by Kelli Shallal. Released 15th Oct 2019 by Callisto on their Rockridge Press imprint, it's 265 pages and available in paperback and ebook format.
The book has a logical format. Chapter 1-2 covers the background of weight loss and benefits of meal-prep and planning as well as a very general layman-accessible discussion of the mechanics of weight loss itself. Chapter 3-6 cover meal prep and planning, making lists, batch cooking, food safety and storage. There is a lot of good advice in these chapters which are applicable to any meal prep and planning sessions, not just for the AIP. The author also includes some logical pointers about containers, ingredients, and supplies. Chapters 7+ include a number of batch-friendly recipes arranged thematically: carbs, veggies, proteins, snacks.
The meal plan chapters include a surprisingly varied selection of multiple day to weekly meal plans with different tastes and representing different world cuisines: Italian, American, Asian fusion, and more.
The recipes have their ingredients listed bullet style in a sidebar. Measurements are given in US standard only. Special tools and ingredients are also listed, along with yields and cooking directions. The ingredients are all easily sourced at any moderately well stocked grocery store.
It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links and references throughout. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats lately. The book also includes a short author bio, and a metric conversion chart, but lacks any index or ingredients lists.
My one small quibble with the book is that the recipes are mostly not photographed. There are some photos, and they're clear and attractive, but they only represent about 5% of the recipes.
Well done. This book would make a great gift/housewarming for someone looking for sensible weight loss recipes as well as fans of food prep planning / batch cooking.
Four stars.
