Sloane has been married to Myles for 5 years and is ready to start a family. Until the cracks start to appear in their relationship. She discovers her husband has a secret, and suddenly her world is turned upside down...
This book wasn't what I was expecting. From the description, I thought it would be a light-hearted romantic comedy about a woman moving on after a bad break-up. But unfortunately, it wasn't that funny. A large chunk of the book (over 60%!) focuses on the breakdown of Sloane's marriage. I wish this had been limited to the first third of the book, so there would have been more time to focus on Sloane picking herself back up.
I did find Sloane a likable character and, if you’ve ever had a toxic ex, you’ll relate to her situation. I enjoyed seeing her progression as she finally found her feet again. She has some great friends and a really interesting job (she’s co-owner of a PR/talent agency - i.e. managing YouTubers and Instagram 'influencers').
It was a nice enough read, but I think it had the potential to be so much better.
Really loved this book. You really take to the character Sloane. A really likeable person you take to your heart and find yourself rooting for. Dealt a raw deal with her cheating husband Myles. The book is about Sloane re-discovering herself..
A very easy read. Devoured in one sitting. Totally recommended. Sophie Ronald has hit the jackpot again.
No, We Can't Be Friends is a good contemporary read about a woman finding out that her husband isn't as perfect as he seems. Sloane always wanted the perfect fairytale romance and thought she had it all when she met/married Myles. Secrets are revealed and Sloane has to find herself again.
I really enjoyed Sloane's journey. When we meet her she is somewhat hesitant in her decisions. Through some conversations of hers, I can tell that she was someone who trusted her gut and followed it. Myles and his secret are making her question everything. Are her assumptions justified? Is Myles still lying?
Myles is definitely not my favorite character. He is pushy, secretive, and likes to put the blame on others for his actions.
One thing I did notice about the blurb is that is said it was going to be a hilarious read and I didn't think it was that. I don't recall many moments where I could laugh or find a moment hilarious. It's more of a women's fiction about trying to pick up the pieces and move forward.
I give No, We Can't Be Friends 3 stars. It is enjoyable and had a great female lead in Sloane. It did feel slow at times and some scenes felt forced but as a whole it was okay. If you enjoy reading about a broken woman overcoming hardships in her life, then you will enjoy this read.
I thought this was going to be the normal laugh out loud but it showed a different side. I did enjoy bits of it. Perhaps I've been reading too many crime thrillers so I needed a different mind set.
Absolutely enjoyed this novel by an extremely talented writer. She weaves a twisted net and the reader immediately gets wrapped up in it. Can’t recommend it enough

Meh. It started out cute and I really enjoyed it. I did love the strong female lead and how she found herself again after a breakup. It did drag a bit and I found myself skimming parts. Overall it was a cutesy story and I enjoyed it.
Sloane met Myles and finally thought she had found the one. She moved to London to be with him from New York, but she didn’t expect Myles’ idea of happy ever after would include her battening an overflowing laundry basket and buying birthday cards for his family. Then she finds out that Myles has a secret. Her fairy tale is over, her heart is broken. Is she going to be able to love herself more than she loved the love of her life?
A fantastic chic lit which I read easily. It’s a little bit predictable but I really enjoyed it. I loved the character of Sloane and liked how she had to see herself differently so she could move on properly. I especially liked the relationship Sloane had with all her co-workers, caring and looking after them while she was going through a hard time herself. This was my first book I’ve read by this Author but I’m looking forward to reading others soon.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher Bookouture for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I probably shouldn't admit this but I found myself sneaking onto my phone at work to keep on reading this book...
I've been desperate for some good chick-lit so I'm so pleased that this was what I hoped it would be. It wasn't exactly what I expected. Myles and Sloane were together for a good part of the book and there was smut but I did enjoy it. There were so many good characters and strong women and it was very emotional at times.
Definitely check it out.
Not the laugh out loud moments that one will expect but a lovely and heartbreaking story overall. A marriage is a lifetime challenge and this book proves it in so many ways.
Sloane and Myles are a married couple working through life: home renovations, trying for a baby, all while managing careers which is important to them both. When Sloane suspects Myles is being unfaithful, When she finds out a secret he's keeping, her life is completely upturned.
What I liked: Sloane is totally relatable. As a woman reading a book about another woman's life, I love that!
What I didn't like: humor wise, I think this was advertised to be more funny than it was. This read wasn't laugh out loud humorous to me, which was what I was expecting. And was let down on that front.
I was really looking forward to a light, 'laugh out loud' book, and in that respect I was totally let down. This book is not a rom com it is women's fiction about a relationship breakdown, so disregard the cover if you are after a funny book.
Having said that though I did enjoy the book, it was an easy read which kept my attention through out and I think it will appeal to chick lit lovers who want to escape for a few hours.
Sloane Cassidy and her husband, Myles are working through married life. They are renovating their home, while living in it, trying for a baby, pursuing successful careers, and trying to stay connected with each other. Sloane starts to feel distance from her husband and at first blames the stress of the renovation and trying for a baby. Then she begins to suspect Myles is cheating on her. Sloane starts digging and wonders what she will find. Can her marriage survive?
Sloane's life is incredibly relatable. She wants to expand their family while at the same time have a successful career. She is the half owner of a business and her partner just had a baby. I loved the scenes Sloane spends with her business partner and how they show the real side of new motherhood. I also loved Sloanes's strength throughout the story. She has so many stressors in her life but she rolls with them and faces each challenge head on. It is refreshing to read a story about a woman like Sloane.
I loved the setting of the book. I am a huge fan of England and while some of the slang and wording was new to me, the context of the story helped explain it. While the setting was not a large part of the book, I loved the fact that it was set in England.
I received an advanced copy before the 10January2020 release date in exchange for my honest review. If you are looking for a light-hearted read with a story female lead, this book is for you.
Without meaning to, I read a few books about either philandering husbands or suspected cheating husbands pretty much back to back. This one was definitely the best of the bunch.
Sloane’s life seems to be going well. Her job at the firm she helped create is flourishing. She’s married to a good-looking, successful man. Yes, she’s not getting pregnant as quickly as she hoped and the remodeling on their home is dragging on interminably, making their house a disaster area, but otherwise, life seems pretty good. Until there are warnings that not all is what it seems.
I liked Sloane and how she handled having to see her husband and herself in a new way. However, I have to stop reading books in which the husband is a selfish douchebag, or I’m never going to be able to date again.
This book is worth your time. Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book, which RELEASES JANUARY 10, 2020.
3 stars!
No, We Can't Be Friends is a fun, light-hearted beach read.
The blurb of the book doesn't quite do it justice. The book centers around Sloane, who goes on a journey of self discovery after being betrayed by her husband. It follows her journey from married life to being single once more, focusing on all the struggles she undergoes, while juggling her career and social life simultaneously.
While it was an incredibly funny and interesting read, I found that the book lacked a lot of depth. While Sloane's story was heart warming, the narrative was written in a way that lacked emotion.
I enjoyed how realistic and relatable the characters were. They each seemed authentic and unique in their own way. I especially liked the ending of the book.
I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a quick and fun chick lit novel.
2.5 STARS - I requested to review No, We Can't Be Friends because I was in the mood for a lighter read. You know the kind - a story with funny situations, poor romantic choices and a satisfying, though predictable ending. But while No, We Can't Be Friends has the cover art, blurb and featured comments that make this book appear to be a light romantic read, those descriptions are very misleading.
This isn't a humourous book at all. The focus is on a failing marriage with readers being given little info on the relationship's past. All we know is that Myles is a total jerk and Sloane is a whiny, unlikable person (making it hard for me to get behind her as the main character). Instead of the promised 'laugh out loud' moments (of which there were zilch), the story focuses on loss, death, cheating spouses and a story line that failed to capture my attention. I would have preferred more focus to be on Vivienne, the aging actress, because she was the one character that stood out from the lackluster group.
The story plods along like a bad movie of the week and left me hoping that things would pick up (they did not). This book had good bones, but the weak execution of the story, unlikable main character and misleading description overshadowed the story. Clearly, this just wasn't a book for me.
Disclaimer: My sincere thanks to the publisher, Bookouture, for providing me with a complimentary digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

While this book is far from “laugh out loud”, it was an enjoyable read. It tugs at the heartstrings of someone who has loved and lost and who has felt the pain of falling out of love. The plot got a bit confusing at times and the flashbacks were sometimes hard to differentiate from the rest of the plot. I wish we had a little more character development as well.
The best thing about this book was how it made the reader feel. There were points where I rolled my eyes at Sloane’s behavior and where I couldn’t stand Myles. It was a nice change to feel truly invested in a character. Overall a good read!
This is a book for every woman who has given up who she is in the pursuit of what she deemed was true love but was only surface when she found what she actually wanted. In leaving Myles and finding Edward, Sophie became the person she was meant to be and was stronger because of it. She also invited in the right people who added to her life she to being in the right space. I really enjoyed this novel full of love and hope.
Dating is a serious business. Of course it has to be fun too, but every first date might be the start of the rest of your life, so it's only natural that you are often put off by the shallowness of some people.
Suddenly, when you least expect it, there he is : The One. He turns your world upside down and if he would ask you to follow him to the end of the world, you would not hesitate one single moment. You love him, you trust him, you are on cloud nine.
There is no doubt in your mind that this will last for ever and ever, right?
This is a story that has put a smile on my face due some little quips here and there but certainly due to the love you felt between the characters when they needed someone the most, but it also made my eyes well up because of the sadness that people can create whether it is deliberate or not.
Can you remain friends with someone who used a sledgehammer to crush your heart? No, not a chance, but you once loved them dearly and somehow they will always remain special. It's not easy to forget and get over bad times, but it's equally impossible to erase the good times. 5 stars
Thank you, Sophie Ranald and Bookouture.
I loved this book. I think that it's extremely relatable and I completely fell in love with the main character. The book made me laugh and kept me turning page after page. Well written and enjoyable - great read!

I had to keep flipping back to title to remind myself this was a "laugh out loud” book. This is NOT that. From the first pages, you know you're reading a failed relationship... Normally, I can roll with this, but the author doesn't relieve the tension of the reader knowing more than the character until the last third of the book. That's right 67%!
In the interim, we are cringing as Sloane turns herself inside out to try and make things work with her husband Myles. Reading through their supposed happy life and how hard she tries to get pregnant is heartbreaking. Interspersed with their slow decline, is a story of her own mother, an alcoholic who abandoned her family.
I did enjoy the author's thoughtful, detailed story out side of Myles & Sloane. Sloane's friends, coworkers and clients were funny, interesting characters. The ending was a little too fairy tale for my preference.
I feel that if I had not expected it to be funny, I might have enjoyed it more.
