Hooked from the very first chapter, I found this book got better and better the deeper I delved into it. I loved the premise (a teacher writing erotica is oh so real!) and her struggle to juggle so many parts of her life definitely struck a chord. As did her depiction of her children and her family life.
The 'sex' scene at the very beginning had me nodding my head in agreement, and then howling with laughter.
But it is the main character's self-discovery that was the best bit for me.
Loved it.
This book is not quite as expected. I went in looking for a steamy laugh out loud take on the behind the scenes of an erotica author, what we found was the story of a woman trying to juggle life as a mom, wife, teacher, and an aspiring writer.
It was fun, cute and a dose of the reality of life and I loved seeing the MC evolve and find herself through the story.
this was a ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 for me.
thank you Netgalley, author and publishing company for the ARC.
Although I hadn’t read the first book I thought I’d give this a go anyway and I’m so glad I did. It’s such a heart felt read & it’s safe to say I snorted laughing a few times. If you fancy a happy easy read this is for you.
Hannah is juggling motherhood, being a wife, teaching and a newly published author. Thinking her life is too boring for someone who writes erotic fiction she decides to take a walk on the wild side and explore her sexuality to get over her writers block. All this while hiding her secret author identity.
I did laugh a few times while reading this, however it I didn’t really love it.
This was my first time reading and reviewing anything by Rebecca Smith.
I'm one that is all for a cute rom-com set in London and this one was a cute story of working mother and wife who found herself to becoming a erotic author who needs to come up with a 2nd book. She is a quirky not so self confident women who thinks she needs to find her inner self goddess.
I did find myself struggling to get into this book and it took me quit longer than normal to finish this book but I did and I'm glad that I did so I can give an honest review.
Even tho this book wasn't quit my cup of tea , this wasn't a bad story at all .. just not really my style.
There are funny parts in this story, there is self discovery and mother daughter relationship theme.
It does lack steam and hotness to be honest.
The overall book was just okay. The characters weren’t all that fleshed out except for the main character Hannah and I found her whiny and annoying for the first half of the book. The beginning of the book dragged so much I almost DNF’d it so many times but I kept pushing through waiting for it to pick up. It didn’t. There were a lot of what I would call filler scenes that were not necessary to the overall story/plot that should have been cut out. I’m pretty sure they were in there just to bring up the word count. I would have enjoyed this so much more if this was focused more on Hannah’s alter ego Twinky. That said I hated the name Twinky. I mean I just could not take that seriously and frankly the name is not sexy at all. I did have some laugh out loud moments towards the end. The second half of the book was definitely an improvement over the beginning. However, not enough to bump up my rating. I ending up rating this two stars. It was underwhelming and nothing in this to make it stand out from other books in the genre with similar themes.
I was really looking forward to read this book. I thought it’d be an inside look into the mind and life of a romance author.
Unfortunately, the story dragged out and was not very well-paced.
Besides the flow being way off for me, I just didn’t really like the characters. Hannah was the heroine, but was just okay.
Such a fun new concept! Loved the beginning of the book. The middle kind of lost me and I felt like there was a lot of fluff and it gave me too much time skip pages and sections. The humor was on point. I loved the banter. Overall this book was just okay for me.
First of all big thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for this ARC.
The story centers around Hannah who is trying to be a mother, teacher and finding inspiration for her next erotica book.
It was really hard trying to finish this book. Too many things bothered me and it was difficult making myself finishing it.
Or my expectations were high? Because a lot of great books are coming from NetGalley and a book really does have to stand out.
The thing I am mostly hoping will get a good check and update from editors - grammar errors, words where I couldn't figure the beginning and the end of them, paragraphs that didn't end normally, clipped on some bizarre words without figuring out what the hell was going on.
As for the story itself - it's 2020 right? Why on Earth do we have to be ashamed of anything today, especially if you live in a developed country?!?! I know that it's not easy overcoming your fears and I understand the difficulties that the main character went through but due to her negativity of something she considers is an issue is simply laughable today.
The development of the story was so slowly agonizing. I wanted to leave the book a couple of times because the pace just didn't pick up and it was too, too slow for a theme that needs to throw out ideas and thinking of the characters as quickly as possible so we the readers can get engrossed with the story.
No dramatic moments, no quick pace that keeps you hooked and no characters that you can love. That was the saddest part for me. :/ If I have only just one character that I can relate to and like - be it positive or negative or somewhere in the gray zone is great.
The whole relationship of Hannah with her family and things she lets her daughter get away with as well as her constant insecurity about things as her own sexuality are the things that discouraged me from giving this book a better review.
How funny was this book!?! I loved it! Such a good story with great characters. Well written and entertaining. Enjoyed it so much. Would recommend.
Faking It is an absolute delight; funny (so funny!) and utterly charming. It was *such* fun to read and I loved it! I only wish US publishers would start picking up books like Faking It. There's such a market and at the bookstore, I'd love to be able to sell this instead of telling customers they can order it through Book Depository! And at the library it would be lovely to have a more modern collection of lighter women's fiction (aka "chick-lit")
If you are looking for some girl power vibes with some laughs, this book is for you. I love how the author took on the subject of getting older and different stages of life and was honest and real about them. Plus, the angry wasps part will have your in stitches .
This book was provided to me as an #ARC by NetGalley, HarperCollins Publishers and Rebecca Smith - free of charge for an honest review.
What does a mom who is endlessly worried about her kids, feeling tired, unsexy, over-worked, and stressed out do when she feels she's at the make-or-break turning point of life? She writes an erotic fiction novel under a kinky pseudonym, of course!!! ""Faking It"" is the relatable story of middle-aged motherhood/wife hood/tired hood. The story follows Hannah Thompson as she navigates the seeming disintegration of her marriage, sending her oldest child to university, butting heads with her teenage daughter, trying to secretly promote her erotic novel and struggling to channel her inner Sex Goddess while writing Book Two. It's a fun, funny, insightful, unique look into the life of a middle-aged mom who says ""I refuse to fade away"".
I loved this book! As a mom and wife nearing middle age (gulp) I felt that Hannah could have been me. It was fun to read the awkward (relatable) struggles of motherhood/wifehood. This is an easy, fun read and I am looking forward to reading more from Rebecca Smith!
Looking for a fun, light book? This is a quick read that will have you laughing and occasionally shaking your head and booty.

I found the plot of this book super intriguing but I wasn't able to get into it because of the writing.
This is a cute topic especially for all of us mother's. It kept me laughing with relatable characters in real world situations. Sometimes I squirmed others I relished the freedom. Thank you Netgalley for my ARC copy of this story.
I didn't know this was a companion novel until I had already started it. I do think it can be read as a stand alone but just be aware that it has characters from another book.
In this book we have Hannah. She's middle aged with three kids. She is attempting to write erotica. The problem is her editor thinks the sex scenes are hilarious... They aren't suppose to be. Sp Hannah sets out to learn to be sexier. The problem here is that she doesn't take it seriously. Hannah basically slut shames anyone who reads erotica the whole time. She makes her husband uncomfortable and she fights with her kids... This is pretty much the whole book. Slut shaming and arguing with her kids.
I also do no see how this can be labeled as a typical romance. She's already married and nothing really changes there. She's just an erotica writer. There were some funny parts but for the most part this book was a let down. I honestly felt a tad attacked because I read a lot of the things Hannah was shaming. The more I think about it the more I want to lower my star rating.. but I'll leave it.
A fun, frothy chick lit style read. I really enjoyed this one.
Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for my ARC. All opinions are my own.
❤️ out of 5
I think this was just a case of this book is not for me. There is something to be said about too much realness in a book that bogs you down with the nitty gritty of day to day life.
I also thought I was getting a romance with a heroine who writes erotica but needs help. I instead got a heroine who is married and their relationship didn’t make me want to read any more about it.
I don’t know about you but when I start a book I need a strong hook or I just won’t finish. I DNF’d at 10%.
3/5 stars
I thought this book was cute, I didn't completely love it but that is a purely personal preference. I enjoyed the characters and found the story to be very funny. Everything felt very realistic and I think that's part of what made me enjoy the story. Overall a very cute, fun, easy, and funny chick-lit book. I recommend picking up a copy.
This is the first time I have read a book by this author and I was fairly impressed. I wish I had know this was a sequel because I would have definitely read that one first.
Hannah is a middle aged mum of 3 who seems to be having a bit of a mid life crisis and is attempting to reinvent herself and add a little more financial gains to the family. What ensues is a comedy of errors as she attempts to become a Sex Goddess even if that's really not what she is reaching for at all. After some success of her first erotic novel she is tasked with writing book two. Now she must research ways to get her creative and sexual juices flowing.
This book has so many laugh out loud moments that people will wonder what all the fuss is about. I really did like this book but I found quite a bit of the beginning to be very slow paced and some of the plot could have been weeded out and still not affect the overall outcome of the story.
