This book was very readable just like Roz Nay's previous book - Our Little Secret. Hurry Home was a bit less of a psychological thriller and more of a family drama with some secrets exposed. Overall, it was a good family drama about estranged sisters and it kept me on my toes.

There were two things that caught my eye when I requested a copy of Hurry Home, first was the cover and second was the premise. I love stories about sisters, as I’ve only ever had a big brother growing up and always imagined what it would be like to have a sister. So the story of Ruth and Alex really intrigued me. First impressions, Alex seems like she’s always had it together and easy always the golden child. It made sense that she’s have this picture perfect life in a quaint little town in the Rocky Mountains with famous hunk boyfriend. Ruth came of as typical addict, serial lier, who always guilts family into helping them when really they just want some quick cash for their next fix. Alex helps save children from horrible home situations, and here comes Ruth who is a recovering addict and pregnant. What is Alex supposed to do?

Well, not going to spoil that because where is the fun? What I will tell you is that I was on the edge of my seat the entire last quarter of the book. The beginning 30-40% of the book is extremely well done to set the stage and get you stuck in your first impressions. Then it really takes off from there and you better hold on to your seat! I could not put this book down and practically binged it in one day.

This is my first Roz Nay book and I think I’ll go and investigate her debut now! ‘Hurry home’ is a thriller/family drama about two estranged sisters bonded by their secrets. There is suspense from early on in the book and this continues as the story unfolds. My opinions on the characters frequently changed throughout! Lots of twists that it’s hard to say too much without giving the plot away but I’d definitely recommend it! Thanks netgalley for the preview - Due to be released July 2020.

"It's like the clicking of cogs: all the pieces falling into place, the whole wheel turning so smoothly. I knew it would go like this."

Hurry Home by Roz Nay is a book that gripped me from the beginning. It started out as a slow burn, but kept me with it past my bedtime. I read it in one sitting, and I'd categorize it more as a domestic suspense than a thriller.

It centers on two estranged sisters and the secrets they share. The publisher's blurb doesn't contain spoilers.

One of the characters was reading a book, and tends to describe books in a single sentence. I'd argue these three seemingly separate descriptions all describe Hurry Home:

"It's a story of two people who should be together but aren't. It's a tale of loss and loneliness. It's about a stranger who comes to town."

I had to suspend disbelief on some of the character's actions and reactions, and I did see the ending coming.

Still, I enjoyed being caught up in the claustrophobic, disturbing book and was satisfied with the conclusion.

TW in alphabetical order: abortion, child taken away after birth, death of a child, drug possession, manipulation.

Hurry Home by Roz Nay is a moving, psychological thriller that will keep you guessing until the very end.

I'll admit, though, Hurry Home got off to a slow start. The writing style is solid, and I was interested in the premise, but the first third dragged and I put it down more than once. Lately, I've seen a lot of novels that declare themselves as psychological thrillers when, in fact, they are only family dramas. However, I was pleased to find that once the story finally got rolling, I was hooked. This wasn't an ordinary family drama.

The story revolves around two sisters, and the chapters alternate between their points of view. I would have liked a little more uniqueness to the voices because I had a hard time keeping them straight. Even though the sisters were very different, each one's narration sounded too much like the other. I also wasn't fond of Chase, the younger sister's boyfriend. He remained very passive in the beginning and was never very interesting. I would have liked to see his personality develop.

What I did like was the way one of the sisters was so manipulative. She's the one who drove the action. (I won't say which one, in order to not spoil the story!) By the end of the book, I was reading at top speed to find out what happened. Any book that grips me so hard is worth a read!

Hurry Home is a fun, take-to-the-beach summer read that will entertain you for sure. I give it four out of five stars.

Hurry Home has been on my TBR for a while now, and I’m so happy I finally got around to reading it. Crooked Lane books always puts out amazing stories, and this one is no different! Thank you so much to them, along with Roz Nay and netgalley for this dramatic piece of fiction.

Hurry home is about Alex, a girl living her perfect life when her long-lost sister Ruth shows up pregnant and in trouble. Alex has been doing her best to forget her past and hasn’t let her boyfriend Chase in on anything. Now, she comes face to face with who she was and what she was trying to escape from. Ruth has always been a troublemaker, and Alex has always tried to avoid the trouble Ruth brought into their lives, but now she won’t be able to escape from her past.

Thoughts: I had no idea what this book was going to be about and I was intrigued from the start. I knew going in this was more of a family drama than thriller, which made me not want to give up on it from the start. The premise was interesting and I found all the characters to be interesting. There wasn’t much that could happen in the plot, and it ended just like I thought it was going to. It was a fun story to follow, but predictable. I was hoping for new elements to be introduced, but in the end it was a quick and enjoyable read. 4-stars from me.

What started out as a slow read, quickly escalated into a cant put down kinda book! Ruth and Alex are sisters with a troubled family past full of secrets. Secrets that Alex will do anything to keep hidden from her boyfriend and her new life away from her childhood hometown. When Ruth shows up needing help from Alex, she reluctantly agrees to help. Told from alternative points of view from each sister, each chapter peels back layer by layer until you will find yourself questioning, what really happened in their past? And who is the “good” sister and who is the bad one? You’ll see everyone lies, some are just better at it than others. Loved the ending, although it was truly sad. And a bit disturbing. Dive into this book! It’s a different kind of thriller that you won’t regret reading.

Thank you to Roz Nay, Crooked Lane Books and to NetGalley for my ARC. This book was good; however, I almost felt like it lacks something I just cannot put my finger on. I did enjoy it and finished it rather quickly. It just didn't 'WOW" me. It does have a lot of twists that you wouldn't suspect. I will say this is plotted out very well and does keep the pages turning.

This novel launches as a slow burn as the author invests time building a characterlogical framework, which is critical to the success of the ending of the book as we have two potentially unreliable narrators. Emotionally wrenching and gripping, you'll find yourself swept away as the sisters' truths become evident. The mystery genre is saturated with authors relying on things like amnesia to create mystery/tension, and this novel deftly navigated around those types of pitfalls leading to an enormously compelling 3rd act.

Is it possible to be a super quick read, while also being super slow-burning?

The book sped by on my Kindle, reaching the 10% mark after only a few pages, yet the story was rather slow and, dare I say, kind of "meh." This isn't a suspense/thriller...it's a domestic drama...one which is very easy to figure out.

My biggest gripe was the dialogue, which was not good.

At the end of the day, this wasn't a bad book, but neither was it a great book. It falls somewhere into the average category, bringing absolutely nothing new to the table.

Hurry Home is available for sale in the US on July 7th.

Many thanks to the publisher for my review copy.

Hurry Home by Roz Nay centers around the dysfunctional relationship between two sisters Alex and Ruth. Ruth shows up on Alex’s doorstep in need of help, and Alex’s character had me thinking of the actress Angie Harmon with each sentence I read about her. Alex is a little stand-offish, even with her live-in boyfriend Chase, and Ruth is just full of secrets from the get go, some of them more dangerous than others. As the story unfolds, you can’t seem to figure out who to trust, who’s telling the truth about their history together.

Some parts of the book didn’t quite cut it for me like when the story of their little brother is revealed and Chase’s reaction. Overall it was an okay read for me, and I did like how it turned out - it made for a good story. It was more about sibling revenge than thriller for sure, and the cast of characters was good but I didn’t feel I knew them well. More about growing up on the farm would have helped to add more depth to Alex and Ruth.

Thank you to, NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for providing me with an advance copy of this book to review.

This book had me so confused. every time I thought I had it all figured out, something else would happen. WOW, just WOW. This is a really good book. It proves that there are always two sides to every story. Good book.

Hurry Home by Roz Nay was a disturbing read. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but it was very disturbing. Alex is a social worker in Colorado and lives with her ski racer turned model boyfriend, Chase. It seems to be the perfect life. One day her sister Ruth turns up, who Alex hasn’t seen for over 10 years. It seems they had some sort of falling out and had not been around each other by choice. Ruth is pregnant and says she is in danger. Alex takes her in against her better judgment. According to Alex, Ruth has been nothing but trouble her whole life. However, is Ruth really the bad sister? Each chapter is told from either Ruth or Alex’s point of view. Depending on whose story you are reading, you’re not sure who the bad person is. There are a lot of dark secrets in Ruth and Alex‘s family history. They will all come to light. This book took me a few chapters to get into but after that it started flying by. I read the end very quickly to figure out what happened. Thank you to the publisher and net galley for the advance copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

This book took me while to get into but was overall a good solid thriller read! I appreciate the chance to review early! I enjoy this author and will continue to be a fan! I felt it needed a bit more ramp up but would recommend it!

This book was a huge disappointment. It’s listed as a thriller but it’s not even close to being a thriller. I kept reading hoping that there was going to be a huge plot twist but there wasn’t. The characters weren’t believable as real people, some actions by the characters were just weird. This book fell really short for me.

I received an electronic copy of this book from Netgalley and Crooked Lane Books in exchange for an honest review.

Well, this was a difficult read at times. It’s hard to read about children being removed from their homes. So parts were sad and hard for me to get through. But I enjoyed the story and the characters. The story of Pim though...so very sad. That will stick in my mind for a while.

This started out slower than I would have liked. Having said that, It definitely held my interest and I had to keep reading to find out what had happened and would happen between the sisters. While I did not enjoy it as much as the previous effort, Our Little Secret, it is still very well written and I was surprised by the ending. Definitely give it a chance!!

Thank you to NetGalley, Roz Nay and Crooked Lane Books for this ARC!
