This book starts out like a typical domestic thriller, putting a "good sister" against a "bad sister." However, it quickly becomes much deeper and twisted. It's hard to review without spoiling it, but I was definitely hooked throughout the entire book.

This is the first book by '' I have ever read, and it likely isn't the last, because I enjoyed this much more than I anticipated I would!
I like the use of dual narrators. I haven't read a book that played with the idea of unreliable narrators like this one did. I started the book assuming that I would know how everything was going to play out because of how many stories I have read that involve sisters with a not-so-perfect past, but this took some turns I hadn't expected while not taking things to an unbelievable end (which I appreciate!). I love how the backstory the way it was, I feel it gave great push and pull between the charaters.
There are a few things that felt out of place, though. Some of the interactions between characters feel a little too unrealistically convenient (like when Alex complains to her boss that she feels her coworker is showing a reckless bias towards who she thinks are unfit parents, and when he does his visit with them there are drugs out in plain sight after Alex tips him off//or how easily Ruth's ex-boyfriend, who we are meant to believe is extremely dangerous, is convinced to stay away from them despite not getting his drugs+money back), and the ending feels a little rushed. There really isn't enough time to build any real amount of tension, and it makes everything feel like it fits together a little too perfectly.
I feel like this would be a perfect recommendation for people who don't really read or are trying to get into mystery/thriller books. It has good characters witch great pacing and an ending that I enjoyed!

Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to read this early in exchange for an honest review
Hurry Home is pegged as a psychological thriller by author Roz Nay.
It centers around sisters Alex and Ruth, who had a troubled relationship as teenagers and have been estranged for a decade. Alex leads what seems to be the perfect life - social worker, attractive, long term boyfriend and a nice home. Ruth is portrayed as being the mess. She's had jail time, bad boyfriends and shows back up in Alex's life pregnant.
Roz Nay did a great job detailing how a family tragedy changes people. She gave us a great look into how the family dynamic changed and what trauma can do to a young person.
That said, it was boring. I found this book incredibly dull and a little predictable. There were times when you were questioning who the "villain" was, and the occasional moment of an unpredictable narrator, but it didn't feel like anything more than a family drama. I was over halfway through the book when it started to pick up a bit more, but I was really underwhelmed by it all.
As a family drama, I think it checks the boxes. But as a psychological thriller, it just doesn't stack up for me.

Roz Nay became a favorite with her debut Our Little Secret. OLS came out of nowhere for me in 2018. Sincerely....amazing read. Needless to say when I saw Hurry Home I was all gimme, gimme now.
Let’s talk about Hurry Home though. I picked it up one morning...I finished the same night. Another compulsive read 🙌🏻. This story focuses on two sisters. Alex has the perfect life. Good looking boyfriend, job as a social worker, fantastic friend and sounding board in police officer Sully....but then, her wayward sister Ruth shows up and turns everything upside down.
I’m not going to say more as this is absolutely a book you need to read going in blind. Y’all I could not put it down. From the setting, the characters to the plot line...Roz does such a great job keeping the reader invested.
Roz’s sophomore novel cements it. She is an author to keep on your shelf. Can I tell you a secret? Come closer...a smidge closer....I get a Ruth Ware vibe 😍. No wasted words (thank you Roz 🙌🏻), atmospheric; I’m transported to the setting, fantastic character story telling, and well developed characters . I will be highly recommending Hurry Home.
I’m ending with 4 1/2 🌟’s!

Alex Van Ness loves her job as a child and family services social worker. It is possible she may even love it too much. As the story begins we meet Alex and her boyfriend Chase. Unexpectedly, Alex's lost sister Ruth shows up, pregnant and alone, asking for help and a place to stay. Alex reluctantly agrees to allow her to stay for one night, but Ruth's manipulation ultimately leads to her staying put.
Meanwhile Alex gets deeply involved in a case at work concerning the possible neglect of a young child whose parents possibly are drug offenders. Her coworker, Minerva, sees nothing wrong with the situation, often paying the parents compliments during the visit to the home. Alex on the other hand only sees filth and neglect. She tries wholeheartedly to get the child pulled from the home, but to no avail as Minerva is her superior. In fact, Minerva is so unnerved by Alex's behavior, she reports her to her boss, claiming Alex was difficult to work with and argumentative. Alex is warned she needs to be more of a team player in the case going forward, and respect the views of the other workers.
At home, Ruth comes clean about why she left her unborn child's father, which sends Alex and Chase's lives into turmoil. She is running from a clever and conniving drug dealer and she is worried he may find her there. Alex, concerned for both the safety of her sister, and the baby, contacts her friend in the police force for advice. When the baby is born, he is immediately turned over to Alex as a foster parent. However, as the story continues to unfold, we start to see the personalities shift and the tables turn. Who really is the bad sister? Ultimately Alex goes too far in the case she has been working on and it costs her not only Ruth's child, but also her career and life as she knew it.
This story definitely has that "twist' factor. It will have you totally loving and hating the characters, then flipping sides later in the book!

Mixed feelings about this book. A lot of new books are focusing on the same sister theme (kinda like when every book had Girl in the title for a while) and I don’t think there is anything that sets this book apart from the rest.

This book was a page-turner from start to finish! Nothing was as it first seemed to be, which is exactly what I’d want from a mystery/suspense novel. I was also pleasantly surprised to discover the author is Canadian, and lives in my province! Well done Roz Nay!

Another story about estranged sisters. That is a popular vein to mine! This book flips back and forth in time to explain why these sisters were estranged and what happened over time. We aren't sure which sister is really the reliable narrator which drives a lot of the book--what really happened? It was fast-paced and enjoyable. I'll have to check out her first book.

Alex and Ruth are estranged sisters who meet up again when Ruth shows up on Alex’s doorstep pregnant. Soon, their very complicated past catches up with both of them and dark secrets are exposed.
I loved and flew threw the first 75% of this. The Rocky Mountain setting, the scenario and the multiple povs all worked well in creating suspense and intrigue. After that, everything quickly went downhill for me. The characters’ actions became completely implausible, showing no depth or realness, but completely succumbing to black or white thinking. I really did not care for the book after that and was relieved to be finished. 2.5 disappointing stars rounded up to 3.
Many thanks to Netgalley, Crooked Lane Books and Roz Nay for my complimentary e-copy ARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

I received this book as an ARC and was instantly captured in the authors writing. What an amazing page turner of lies, deceit, and eventually good wins. But....which sister is good? You will literally find out in the last several pages!!!

Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to preview this ARC of Hurry Home by Roz Nay.
Alex and Chase have a wonderful life together. Chase is a handsome athlete, and Alex works in child protection. Because of Chase's hefty paychecks, they're able to live in a beautiful loft in the mountains.
Right in the midst of a stressful child protection case, Alex's long lost and wayward sister Ruth makes an unwelcome appearance to Alex's home. Right as she's about to turn her away, she learns that Ruth is pregnant. But when Alex last knew Ruth, she knew that she was not ready to be a mother. Ruth had volatile relationships with drugs and drug dealers and has struggled most of her adult life. Fearing for the baby, Alex reluctantly takes her in. But is this the best for for Alex, Chase, or Ruth?
This did not turn out the way I expected and I love that! The characters are mysterious and the story line slowly unfolds chapter by chapter in different directions. Very readable, lots of fun.

This book seemed a bit slow at the beginning and I found it lacked originality. As an avid reader of thrillers and mysteries, I was not surprised by any of the twists.

Hurry Home is a great book that slowly unfolds before readers eyes. I went into this book with zero expectations as I haven't read the authors novels before and wasn't sure if it would be another "run of the mill thriller." Thankfully, it wasn't. This book had the twists and turns I needed and some interesting characters that made the book as intriguing as it was. I flew through this book and was truly excited to get to the end. I wasn't disappointed!

This is a very gripping story of two sisters, one a Child Services social worker and the other a recovering addict who is pregnant and fleeing domestic abuse. The sisters have a troubled past and one is trying to make amends. This book has some unexpected twists and turns and is a great read! I highly recommend it.
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from NetGalley. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

This book is a psychological thriller..
It's about Alex who's living her perfect life with her perfect boyfriend Chase in her perfect house. Until one fine day her sister Ruth shows up and Alex's life goes haywire from there on. They've been estranged from each other for over ten years for reasons that should stay buried in the past. But then everything starts falling apart and the past doesn't stay hidden anymore.
I loved this book. Every chapter of this book was like an unexpected blow that came out of nowhere. Every page was gripping and my attention didn't falter for once. This book had me hooked throughout.

I wasn't a fan of Roz Nay's first book (despite the hype) but I figured she was worth another shot. Sadly, I don't think it was worth it. It took me a good while to get into this book, and once I did, it was hard to figure out exactly what it was trying to be. The "mystery" was easily solved, and actually took too long to wrap up. This one just didn't work for me. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this book for my honest review.

This book wasn’t as good as I was hoping it would be. It had a great concept and plot with a good character development but it wasn’t that engaging to me. The book was just ok to me. I see I am in the minority with this one as so many gave it 4-5 stars but it’s just not the book for me. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this book for my honest review

I enjoyed this novel. **SPOILER ALERT** I caught on to the unreliable narrator fairly quickly but still really enjoyed the writing and the evolution of the situation. I do find the title odd; not sure it is a good representation of the theme, but I would recommend this book.

Alex works for child protective services and live with her super hot boyfriend, Chase. One day her sister, Ruth, shows up on her doorstep. She hasn’t seen her sister in over 10 years. Ruth is pregnant and needs help, so Alex lets her live with her and Chase so she can get on her feet. However, Alex begins to think that Ruth’s baby might be in trouble.
This one was so freaking good. I loved it so much and almost finished an entire pack of cookies while stress eating. Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced copy!

I struggled with this book, and realized from reading the reviews that I had a much different experience than many of my peers. The story centers around sisters Alex and Ruth, who had been estranged for 10 years but meet again when Ruth shows up on Alex's doorstep. It alternates between the POV of these 2 characters.
This is more of a domestic thriller than a psychological thriller, but does a good job within the unreliable narration theme. My issue is that I had a visceral dislike of Alex from almost the very first page of the book. The way the book is structured, the reader cannot decide if Alex or Ruth is the one telling the truth, so I realized that the author did not intend for me to immediately dislike one of the characters. I was unable to let go of this feeling for the rest of the book and found myself rooting against Alex from the get-go.
That being said, I did appreciate the twists and turns and the slow unfolding of the incidents from the sisters' childhood that shaped their relationship with each other and the decisions they make. It was an interesting (and fast) read, but didn't resonate with me overall due to the immediate dislike of a primary character.
