I enjoyed this one! Although I saw the twist coming I’ll admit I really couldn’t put this book down. It was a page turner! I’ll be looking for more by this author. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.
The first half was wonderful, with well played psychological game between two sisters, both of whom have been scarred both by life and by each other. But then unfortunately the authoress abandons the smart cat-and-mouse game for the black-and-white world, where all the interesting aspects vanish and the predictability is the name of the game. A pity, because this could be very witty work.
3 stars because the sisters' relationship rings true.
This is a big go to Author for me. Every book she writes is a winner and this book is one of her best. Just go get it and start reading. It is unputdownable and will stay with you for a long time. Thank you Netgalley.
While I agree with other reviewers that the characters and situations were overly simplistic, I want to point out that this is at least consistent. So, yeah, Chase is a moron and I hope social services doesn't really believe outlandish stories without any investigation, but it all feels very homogeneous. Like, this is easy town, where nothing requires too much thought. Sit back, relax, read a book.
I love the cover of this novel and the inside. "Hurry Home" is an suspenseful novel by Roz Nay A page turner for sure.
This was an enjoyable psychological thriller where the characters are not all what they seem. Alex seems to have set up a nice life for herself with her model boyfriend. She works in child protective services. Then her pregnant sister turns up at her doorstep after 10 years and threatens to unsettle Alex. Alex does not want to discuss their past, but their versions of the past are obviously very different. Good page-turner.
This book has an incredible premise, I love the idea of the two sisters being entangled in the web of a psychological thriller. I wanted a little bit more from it, some more thrill and less idle settings and conversations. I would definitely like to see what else comes out of this author in the future.
This is my first book by Roz Nay, but it won't be my last. I enjoyed this twisty psychological/domestic thriller. Twenty-five-year old, Alexandra Van Ness (Alex) lives in a beautiful apartment with her perfect boyfriend, and has a job she loves. She is a child protection social worker and her first and only goal is to save children that are at risk, no matter what she has to do. When Alex and Minerva investigate the negligence of Buster Floyd, she does not agree with the way her colleague handles it. That night while sharing her day with Chase, Alex's sister, Ruth shows up at her door. Alex and Ruth do not get along and there are a lot of buried secrets between them. They have not seen each other in over then years and Alex is not happy to see her. Ruth tells her she is pregnant and Alex and Chase allow her to stay with them. Once again, there are things tat Ruth is not saying. Alex will only allow Rut to stay if she promises not to say anything about their past. What are they hiding and how will it affect their loved ones when it comes out?
I really enjoyed this well-written and entertaining book. From the beginning, I was invested in the story and couldn't stop reading. The story alternates between Alex's and Ruth's point of view. Something happened when the sisters were young that changed their family forever. Roz Nay introduces us to some great characters, some I liked, others I wanted to throttle. I thought I knew what was going on, but was sadly mistaken. There were several twists and the final one took me by surprise. I was not sure who to believe and whether either of the sisters were reliable narrators. There is some child neglect and /or abuse occurring in this story, but it is not too graphic and was necessary in the story. Roz Nay delivers a fast-paced, well-written and atmospheric read. With themes of family, trust, secrets and protection of the vulnerable, this book was an entertaining read.
Holy madness, I was hooked from the beginning of the book, it instantly grabbed my attention! The alternating multiple POVs were executed so well. I was so conflicted whose side to be on, at times it was Alex and others it was Ruth. Both characters are entertaining, complex and so frustrating, at the same time. This thriller had everything; drama, deceit, and betrayal.
Alex has the perfect life. Handsome boyfriend Chris, job in child protection and fantastic friends and social life.
Then, without warning, her wayward sister Ruth shows up and turns everything upside down. Without giving away any twists or turns of the story, the sisters have secrets that they want to keep buried and Ruth needs Alex's help.
While this novel was a slow burn for me, it definitely picked up and kept my interest. I loved how the chapters alternated between the two sisters and I couldn't figure out which one, if either, was reliable! Great pretty fast read!
Thanks to Roz Nay, Crooked Lane Books and NetGalley for the ARC.
Hurry Home is a perfect suspense thriller for all thriller fans. it follows Alex who lives his life with his boyfriend. And here comes her sisters who is unidentifiably curious and brings drama to the story. Roz Nay's writing style is new to me and definitely loved it instantly. The story goes smoothly as what other thriller books is. This include a spiced drama and thrill that I love mostly. Roz Nay is my new favorite author.
Interesting concept novel.
Not too certain how much I enjoyed it but it was a fast read and did have a twist I guessed before the end.
Worth picking up and reading, it is not a long read so a good in-between read or holiday read/
A solid physiological thriller involving 2 sisters. The plot was absorbing and kept me on my toes with unreliable narrating. Solid performance by the author.
HURRY HOME by Roz Hay
3/5
After the fatal death of their brother when they were kids, sisters Alexandra and Ruth grew apart.
Alex now lives in a beautiful home with her boyfriend and a job in child protective services while Ruth has lived a life of drugs and bad choice in men.
After ten years apart Ruth shows up on Alex’s doorstep, pregnant and alone. Being together once again will cause the secrets to finally come out.
This is a story of two sisters, who have both done a lot to hurt each other and as you’re reading this you really don’t know whose side to be on or who to trust. The characters were very unlikeable but I’m pretty sure that was intended. Was definitely a wild story from start to finish.
Let me start by saying that I really, REALLY loved this book. I don't want to say much about the plot, because this is just one you'll have to read for yourself. Told in two perspectives (one from each of the two sisters), this was an engaging, highly suspenseful psychological thriller. I devoured this one, and have already been recommending it to both family and customers. Very well done.
A book that explores sisterhood and family secrets. The character arcs in this book are so interesting and really made for an explosive ending that I wasn’t expecting. I loved the writing style.
While I really enjoyed the authors last book this one really missed the Mark for me. It’s very character driven and lacking in thrills and I just never found myself invested in the plot or the characters. Hoping her next book is better for me.
Decent, but unfortunately predictable psychological family drama. The relationship between the sisters was what attracted me towards the book. The book was easy to read but felt too shallow.
4.5 stars
oh wow what a story! this one took some time to get into but it touches a lot of important topics, and it does so in a very sensitive way!
basically a story about two sisters who have a very intense relationship but so much more! i really enjoyed this story and thank #Crooked Lane Books #netgalley a lot
I finally got around to reading this book and I am so glad I did. Right up my alley, I will read more Roz Nay books in the future!
Blood is thicker than water... And it could cost you everything.
Alexandra Van Ness has the perfect life. She lives in an idyllic resort town tucked away in the Rocky Mountains, shares a designer loft with her handsome boyfriend, Chase, and has her dream job working in child protection. Every day, Alex goes above and beyond to save children at risk.
But when her long-lost sister, Ruth, unexpectedly shows up at her door, Alex's perfect life is upended. Growing up, Ruth was always the troublemaker, pulling Alex into her messes, and this time will be no different. Still, Alex will help Ruth under one condition: we will never, ever, talk about the past. But when a local child goes missing, both women are forced to confront the secrets they've promised to keep buried.
Utterly engrossing and claustrophobic, Hurry Home is a tantalizing reflection of the chain-and-shackles relationship between sisters that asks: what lines wouldn't you cross for your own?
