This book fits much better in the Domestic Drama genre. This was a quick read time wise, but the story was quiet slow and never packed the punch that it could have. While it was suppose to be twisty, it was quite easy to figure out, even the final twist that was suppose to wow, unfortunately it did not. Not bad, not great, just mediocre.

Too fast paced, I wish it had been a bit slower. I found the characters to not be very likeable. The author did a great job writing the story. This was just a no for me.

I couldn't find what I was looking in a thriller book., I think it's because of the writing. Everything seems unnatural to me, Alex was very evil ok but I couldn't like her, Ruth or anyone. It had a weird fiction and I'm sorry this was not a good one for me.

This was such a fast paced read, full of secrets from the past, sisterhood and coming back together. I really enjoyed the dual prespectives told from each sister's point of view and watching their stories come together to n piece together what excately happened in the past to set them on their Separate ways for 15 years. I was definitely surprised by the ending and the great shift because of the secrets and lies that had been kept in the past.

Alex a social worker has always had a plan. She has also made it her mission to save children from dangerous situations. In a relationship with her long time boyfriend even though she hasn't let him in on what happened in her past. That is until her sister Ruth, shows up 15 years after she up and left the family. Ruth is pregnant and needs her sister's help. Alex is not so keen to let her sister back into her life, because of the past she doesn't want her boyfriend to know. Ruth however is able to convince them to let them stay and starts to get the boyfriend on her side. Things start to get a little crazy and tense when Ruth's ex starts to contact them wanting his drugs and money that Ruth stole. Not to worry though Alex always has a plan, will it work out this time or will it become another big mess like the unfortunate day they were playing Hurry Home?

4.5 stars, actually.

What do you get when you pit two psychologically damaged sisters against one another? In this case, a very engrossing story that hooked me at the starting gate. That said, don't expect what I'd call a thriller nor, for that matter, many really likable characters; it's more of a manipulative struggle between the two sisters to determine who got the shorter end of life's stick and who can tell the most believable lies.

Alexandra Van Ness, a children's services worker, loves her job and her life with hunky and occasional model Chase. She's far less fond of her older estranged sister Ruth, with whom she shared a rocky, secret-filled childhood. So when Ruth shows up on her doorstep begging for help, Alex is torn. She's sure Ruth will revert to her unpleasant ways - possibly ruining the life she's built with Chase - but they are, after all, sisters. And even dysfunctional sisters have an obligation to take care of each other. Don't they?

Chapters switch from the perspectives of Alex and Ruth, with each telling her side of the story as she sees it, leaving readers to wonder who's the attacker and who's the villain. It's not till near the end that glimpses of reality creep in, and I must say that when the "truth" was revealed, I still wasn't convinced that either sister could pass for an innocent bystander. I'm not sure that was the intent, but I didn't like either sister well enough to give her a pass on bad behavior.

Still, I enjoyed this journey very much - and I recommend it as an anytime read, but especially on a beach read (if the virus pandemic we're currently experiencing eases up enough for beaches to be open) or by the fireplace when snow is falling outside. It's well-written, entertaining and fast-paced - what more could readers want? Many thanks to the publisher, via NetGalley, for the opportunity to read and review a pre-release copy.

A brilliant read! Full of twists and turns! Didn’t quite know who to believe! Really well written and totally absorbing! Tragedy, and how a young mind can be harmed forever by childhood experiences!

Thank you to NetGalley, Roz Nay and Crooked Lane Books for the free e-book in exchange for an honest review.

I’ve heard so much about Nay’s first novel that I couldn’t pass up the chance to read the second one! I was not disappointed in this one at all, and now I can’t wait to get my hands on more by Nay! I really enjoyed all the build up and never knowing which sister was telling the truth. There were quite a few well thought out twists to this one and I enjoyed both characters, even though one was very twisted! This novel is just the perfect length and I read it in one sitting because I had to know which sister was the liar. I would definitely recommend!

Out July 7th!

I don't like the author's writing style, it feels si detached. I'm given nothing to form emotional bonds with the characters and Ruth and Chase are simply annoying me. Maybe over time Alex may interest me but I'm not invested in her or tue story right now.

It's like the writer tries and tries to be mysterious but isn't building up the story. I just can't read it anymore.

Thank you to the author, Crooked Lane Books and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I would call this story about two very different sisters a family drama rather than a thriller. While the premise was intriguing, the execution did not live up to its potential. It was a lot of (bad) dialogue, stereotypical and one-dimensional characters and predictable twists.

Intriguing from the start, Hurry Home is much more suspense than thriller. It's a family drama about two sisters and the secrets that forever bind them together. The premise is interesting, and the characters are quite intriguing. The relationship between sisters Alex and Ruth is fascinating to watch unfold. Hurry Home is a story read for character development, not for fast-paced action sequences or gripping narrative. The story is captivating, but not overly exciting. Even so, I enjoyed this one, and I recommend it to anyone who likes mystery or suspense novels.

Its basically about 2 sisters who share a really dark past and have lots of secrets etc
and they havent seen eachother in years and one day her sister knocks on her door needing help after this happened it basically just goes all down hill..

Lies and betrayal.

Her sister tells her to keep the past a secret but will her sister?

This book had so many twists and turns and i loved it.

And also this book had a character who i could not stand and honestly i have not read alot of books where a person annoyed me so much like this person however it was good that this book had that because honestly i loved reading a book when i dont like every person that shows its a good book to have so many opinions on the people in the book.

The ending was so good.. Hands down this author writes amazing thrillers and i look forward to reading more from this author :) thank you netgalley for this arc!

This is a book involving family dynamics. It is interesting how the author portrays each of the characters and leads you to make assumptions about each sister. They both tell their sides of their past and the versions are completely different. It is easy to begin to take the side of the believable sister but there are many twists and turns in this story.

Alex and Ruth are sisters who have been estranged for years. Alex has her life together, working as a social worker in child protection. When Ruth shows up on her doorstep, pregnant and running from an abusive relationship, both lives start to spiral out of control. Very interesting use of narrative to slowly shift the reader’s perception of the sisters.

A story of two sisters with a past. One, Alex, lives with a good looking 'model' boyfriend in an immaculate loft and the other, Ruth, turns up pregnant after a 10 year separation. They have family secrets which are slowly revealed as the book unfolds.

It's much more of a family drama than a thriller and if you are interested in a well written family drama, then this is for you. I just found it a bit so/so, with the sisters relationship being told from each perspective. It has some surprises, but, overall for me it was OK.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to preview.

This book is about two sisters who had a terrible tragedy happened when they were younger, involving the death of their younger brother. Now years later little sister Alex, is a social worker helping families or should I say helping children who she believes need to be taken from the home. Big sister Ruth left the family home after the death of their brother years ago apparently covering for something that Alex did. Ruth shows up on Alex's doorstep pregnant and destitute. Big sister Alex to the rescue right? Alex is sure that Ruth is a no-good mother, who should not be a parent at all. After all, this is what alex DOES. help children in need. What about all those other home she took babies from and small children? Is she really a great child protection worker or is she just a messed up girl with a messed up past trying to right her wrongs.

This book was amazing and absolutely chill full as well. Because it does involve the removal of children from homes from parents were really trying their best. Not everything is always what it seems and sometimes you need to dig a Little Deeper to see what's really going on in front of your face.

Thank you to NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for the ARC of Hurry Home by Roz Nay. I really enjoyed Our Little Secret and was really excited to read her new book.

Alexandra Van Ness is living her dream. She is a social worker in child protective services and lives in a beautiful upscale loft with her model boyfriend, Chase, in the Rocky Mountains. When her pregnant sister, Ruth, unexpectedly shows up on her doorstep after ten years, she threatens to upend the perfect life Alex has built for herself. Ruth is hiding something, but so is Alex. Will they keep each other’s secrets? Who is to be trusted?

This book was a very quick read. I enjoyed the unpredictable narrators, the sisterly drama, and the backstory of their life on the farm. Nay does a good job of showing how trauma can effect children. I do wish Ruth and Alex would have received some therapy as children, as it might have helped them to deal with the trauma they suffered. However, I did’t buy how quickly characters changed opinions of others. The plot was also very predictable and at times boring. It reads more like a family drama than psychological thriller.

3/5 stars

This was my first time reading a book by Roz Nay and I was quite impressed. Hurry Home is classified as a thriller but in a way it was more of a mystery. It’s the story of 2 sisters who as adults live totally different lives. One seems like she has everything and is living the good life while the other hangs with drug addicts and has spent time in jail. It’s a story that is based on their childhood growing up and a tragedy they both experienced. I have to admit that there was a twist to the story that I didn’t see coming. And that twist is what makes it such a good read. I really enjoyed this story and look forward to reading more by this author. It’s definitely a book I’d recommend. I’d like to thank NetGalley for the arc to read and review. I’d rate this as a 4 star read.

Alex and Ruth are long lost sisters who are reunited after some time apart. Alex has the perfect life with a perfect boyfriend and her dream job but soon Ruth comes along and changes things. She needs help but Alex makes her promise she’ll leave the past alone if she helps her.

This book was really dark and thrilling but fast paced and easy to read. I enjoyed it but it is incredibly dark so it needs to come with a few warnings. I would definitely read more from this author.

I really liked this story about two sisters and how their past keeps coming back to haunt each of them in different ways. I will say that one sister is not how she seems, and I really liked the ending to the story. I received this book via Netgalley for review.
