I enjoy reading Lisa Harris and this book did not disappoint. It was full of action, suspense, love and well developed characters.
Throughout the book, I continued to want to know what would happen next and I always appreciate not knowing what will happen. I was happy that there seemed to be more suspense than a huge focus on Jack and Aubreys relationship and faith was not pushed it was brought in when it needed to be. I am not a fan of books that seem to have an agenda or preach during the novel and this one did not.
I would definitely recommend any of Lisa's books, especially this one.
High-octane, twists and turns, and a second-chance love story - what's not to like?
I listened to the audio version of Traitor's Pawn as I weeded my garden and cleaned house for a family gathering. The story kept me engrossed, trying to figure out if Aubrey and Jack were going to make it out alive. Lisa Harris throws obstacle after obstacle at her protagonists, and each is just stubborn enough to keep poking at the clues.
When FBI agent Jack Shannon is called in to investigate the shooting of a senator, he discovers that, yes, a senator was shot, but there was also a woman abducted. Learning that the woman was Aubrey Grayson, a former girlfriend of his, he is intent on finding her. When he also learns that her abduction may have possible ties to the case he is working on, he is determined to follow every clue.
A Houston police detective, Aubrey has come to expect threats but the ones she's been receiving lately scare her a little more than the others. When she's abducted from a hunting trip with the senator, her surrogate father, her fears come to fruition. Not only is Papps shot, but the men who take her appear to be Chinese. What in the world do these men want from her, and can she use her wits and her skills to take them down?
I liked both of the main characters, and most of the secondary ones. Aubrey has a very strong faith base, which gets her through the dysfunction of her family. I also love Harris' writing style. It's action-packed with twists almost every time the reader starts to get comfortable again. I can definitely recommend The Traitor's Pawn to readers who enjoy a good romantic suspense story. Harris doesn't disappoint!
Another great Lisa Harris book!
While this novel followed a traditional format for this type of romantic suspense it still had plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing.
I love how Harris is always quick to suck you into the book. It was great to see everyone working together very quickly in this novel.
I loved the topics of reconciliation and forgiveness throughout this books. I also loved the twinge of second chance romance.
The romance in romantic suspense always moves fast, but I appreciate that Harris is careful to write a story where the romance works - but can also be skimmed or left out if a reader prefers straight suspense. I did love all the chats Jack and Bree had throughout the book though and would look forward to them as secondary characters in in future books.
I received an advanced copy of this book through the publisher on NetGalley. This is my honest review.
Traitor’s Pawn by Lisa Harris is a spectacular work of romantic suspense. This author is a master at both storytelling and suspenseful plots. This novel is no exception. She will hook you from the very first chapter. Her characters are so real and flawed and extremely complicated. I highly recommend this book. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.
Classic Lisa Harris. Full of mystery, suspense, intrigue. Fast paced. A true page turner. Pick it up and savor it...You will not be disappointed. Five stars.
I can usually tell by the first chapter of a book how well I'm going to like it. On occasion I will come across a book that grabs me from the very first page. The Traitor's Pawn was just such a book. From the very first page I was hooked. The way it started had me at the edge of my seat and I knew immediately I was in for a page turning, suspense and action filled book.
Jack Shannon has returned to Corpus Christi,Texas and is focused on finding the man who has been selling encrypted government secrets to the Chinese through online chat rooms. When a senator is shot during a hunting trip and the woman he was with is abducted, Jack agrees to join the search--especially when he discovers that the kidnapping victim is Aubrey Grayson, a woman he was once in love with.
As the search continues, it becomes clear the senator may not have been the intended victim and Aubrey may be connected to the other case Jack is supposed to be working on. Can Jack untangle the knots before it's too late? And when he learns the truth, will it be too painful to get past?
I really enjoyed the romance between Jack and Aubrey. It had the right amount of romance sprinkled throughout the book that kept you rooting for their relationship, but not over the top mushy. This is also a good stand alone novel. No worries about getting to the end of the book and be left hanging or waiting for the next book.
If you are a fan of Christian suspense I would highly recommend this book. Just be prepared to get nothing else done until you reach the last page. It's a great, clean Christian suspense novel.
Thanks to Revell Reads for providing me with this book in exchange for my honest review.
Lisa Harris's The Traitor's Pawn has become my favorite of her books that I have read to date. It was a great read that kept me intrigued from start to finish.
Five plus stars.
Lisa Harris is quickly becoming one of my go-to authors for mystery and suspense. Fans of Lynette Eason, Natalie Walters, or Rachel Dylan will enjoy The Traitor's Pawn. She writes stories that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the last page.
The Traitor's Pawn centers around Jack Shannon, an FBI agent. He returns to his hometown only to discover that an old flame has been kidnapped on a hunting trip. He must hit the ground running to protect the woman he still loves.
This book has heart racing action, light romance and light Christianity. I recommend it for readers who like suspense but not gore.
Lisa Harris has the unique ability to draw you into the story! From the beginning to the end she keeps you rivited to the story. The suspense, unexpected twists and turns will keep you reading and neglecting everything else! Aubrey and Jack's story is deffinitely not to be missed!! Be prepared to have a new favourite author!! Absolutely loved it!
Loved this book! The suspense kept me going and guessing who you can trust and who you couldn't. I always love Lisa Harris's books as she never disappoints!
Shootings, abduction, traitors, and national security risks in Corpus Christi, Texas. The danger in The Traitor’s Pawn starts almost immediately and doesn’t let up.
Somehow the abduction of Detective Bree Grayson is linked with FBI agent Jack Shannon’s investigation. The crisis reunites these two former best friends, and as they work together they discover romantic feelings that have lain dormant since college. Bree finds herself again dealing with her father’s abandonment, pain she thought she’d left behind.
The stakes in this novel are high, but the characters’ introspection allows readers chances to breathe. Along with the romance thread, there’s a theme of anger and forgiveness as Bree processes her lack of relationship with her father.
One thing I found a little disappointing was the resolution of the conflict with a particular antagonist. This person will remain nameless, to avoid spoilers, but was introduced as a worthy villain in a way that had me expecting far more involvement in the final crisis.
Overall, though, The Traitor’s Pawn is an enjoyable romantic suspense with a strong thread of faith.
Favourite line:
"My father always told me that God is about the long game. That he’s more interested in who you become, even if the actual process is difficult. [Jack speaking about his own father," Kindle location 2933]

Lisa Harris always comes up with interesting plots. This was a very different one with a lot involved. I honestly didn’t know who to trust and what was really going on. She kept surprising me until the end.
With that being said this wasn’t one of my favorite books by Lisa. A lot of the dialogue seemed repetitive, that characters said the same thing several times to the same person. That happened more towards the beginning, the end didn’t seem to do that as much.
I didn’t really love the romance in this one. Aubrey seemed totally clueless about any romantic feelings that Jack might have had and I didn’t get a sense that she returned them until the end.
As always, this is my opinion only.
A copy of this book was given to me. All opinions are my own.
Aubrey Grayson is enjoying a day hunting in the woods when her companion, a former Senator is shot . Reeling from the incident, Aubrey becomes the next target and is kidnapped. FBI Jack Shannon is investigating the selling of government secrets to the Chinese, but joins the investigation as Aubrey is a friend. Harris sets the stage for a complex suspense thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Great read!

I am reviewing a copy of The Traitor’s Pawn through Revell and Netgalley:
After Jack Harris an FBI Agent arrives in Corpus Christi Texas, he has a singular focus that is to find the man who has been selling encrypted government secrets to the Chinese through online birding chat rooms. After a Senator is shot and killed during a hunting trip and the woman he was with was abducted. After learning this Jack agrees to join in the search especially after he discovers that the kidnapping victim is Aubrey Grayson, a woman he was once in love with.
Come join in a hunt for the truth as well as a traitor in this action past story.
As the search goes on, it becomes more clear that the Senator may not have been the intended victim and that in fact Audrey may have been involved in the other case Jack was working on. Will Jack be able to untangle the knots before it’s to late? When he discovers the truth, will it be to painful to move past?
I give The Traitor’s Pawn five out of five stars!
Happy Reading!
When FBI agent Jack Shannon arrives in Corpus Christi, Texas, he is focused on one thing: find the man who has been selling encrypted government secrets to the Chinese through online birding chat rooms. But when a senator is shot during a hunting trip and the woman he was with is abducted, Jack agrees to join the search–especially when he discovers that the kidnapping victim is Aubrey Grayson, a woman he was once in love with.
As the search continues, it becomes clear the senator may not have been the intended victim–and Aubrey may be connected to the other case Jack is supposed to be working on. Can Jack untangle the knots before it’s too late? And when he learns the truth, will it be too painful to get past?
Join the hunt for the truth–and a traitor–in this tension-laden story of secrets, betrayal, and second chances. ~ from the publisher.
Traitor’s Pawn is a page turner! From when you first meet Aubrey talking with the senator until the end, this reader could not put down this book. The plot keeps you wanting to know what is coming up next. Although the story is a page turner, some of the action seemed a little unrealistic. That having been said, it did not stop this reader from turning each page and trying to see how Aubrey would or if she would get herself out of the predicament. The romance between Aubrey and Jack was a sweet build and for those liking a little romance with their suspense will find a satisfying read. Give this title to readers liking a quick but very suspenseful read with lots of twists and turns.
I received an ARC ebook from NetGalley and the publisher, Revell, in exchange for an honest review.
As I have mentioned in other reviews here and there, I don’t really enjoy books with too many coincidences and this one is no exception. However, I did enjoy the interaction between FBI agent Jack Shannon and Aubrey Grayson. The pace of the story was also good and it kept me engaged. I would recommend other Lisa Harris books before this one, but I liked the outcome when all was said and done.
The Traitor’s Pawn is a contemporary novel written by Lisa Harris.
Summary: Aubrey Grayson is relaxing on a well-deserved vacation-that turns deadly. Her companion is shot, and she is kidnapped.
She must use her wits and her cop-smarts to survive, and find out exactly who is behind this sinister plot.
Will she be able to unravel the mysteries surrounding her kidnapping before it is too late? It doesn’t hurt that her former best friend Jack Shannon just happens to be in town to help. Maybe they will be able to solve this case together…….
My Thoughts: I liked this book. It was fast-paced and the story was well-written. The characters were interesting, and I loved that the female lead was tough enough to handle everything going on around her and keep going. The romance was good as well.
I would recommend this book-especially if you enjoy contemporary thrillers. It was fun.
I would like to thank Revell for providing me with a digital copy of this book in exchange for my review. Thank you!
I read this book quickly since I couldn't put it down. In full disclosure, I did receive it free in exchange for an honest review but since I liked this book it definitely wasn't a problem. I'm not going to recap the story here. 1 - because you can read it above and 2- I don't want to give anything away.
What you really want to know is should I read it? If you enjoy people like Irene Hannon, Elizabeth Goddard of Lynette Eason, Then you will enjoy this book. It has fast paced suspense, romance and themes like forgiveness running through it. I liked that it had twists and turns and I am looking forward to her next book.
This is a book I will be recommending to others in my life. On the basis of all of that (and the fact that I had I not gotten a free copy, I would have paid for it)... I can only say it's worth the time and money. While you are at it, I also suggest trying her other books too (I own them all - most of which I brought).
this is a page turning story if you like suspense and second chances you will like the book i was given a copy of the book but this is an honest review. i got it from netgalley. this is a well written story. someone is shot and she is taken but why? will they find her in time and find out what is going on? do they want a second chance at love if so can they make it work
I enjoyed the suspense of this book as Jack is trying to figure out what exactly is going on and how to address the problem. He joins the search for a missing person thinking it might be both related to the case he is working on and because he realizes he knows her. This is a book that will keep you reading.
I received a copy to read the review is mine.
