Wow! What a roller coaster of events that took place within this book! Which made it one helluva read!
I honestly really went several different directions on where I thought this book was going and truthfully, none of them was what actually happened at the end! I have come to really enjoy Kate White's books because of this exact reason! I really appreciate a good mystery novel that I can't predict and this book fits that bill to a T! There were strong characters that kept the story interesting!
Overall, this was an excellent book!
Most importantly, I would like to thank Netgalley, HarperCollins Publishers, and Kate White for giving me the opportunity to read Have You Seen Me? in return for an honest and unbiased review!
The mind is so complex and when you have lost your memory and try to go back to work at a place you haven't worked for 5 years, you know there's a problem. And to add to the problem, people connected to Ally all have different viewpoints as to what has happened to her. Well-crafted writing makes this story move along at a good clip as the reader struggles along with Ally to figure out what happened to her her, and the search puts her in a lot of danger.
Have You Seen Me is a roller coaster ride of a book! One morning Ally walks into work and realizes some things are off, she gets into her office and is abruptly asked what she is doing there, considering she hasn't worked in that office for years. She soon finds out she has a lapse of memory for a 2 day period and can't remember a thing. You follow Ally on her journey of finding what happened during those two days, as well as a childhood memory that Ally remembers. I loved the addition of her childhood story, that would have been a great book on it's own!
Just when you think you have it all figured out the story takes a sudden left turn and throws you into a loop of suspense. I will admit the first quarter of the book is a little slow but once it gets going it gets so much better. The ending left a little bit unanswered but I was happy with what was provided. I have never read anything from Kate White before but I would definitely check out her other books and future releases now. Thanks NetGalley for the ARC copy for providing my honest review.
I have to say that sometimes when requesting books on Netgalley I pick a book based on two things one being “oh the cover looks interesting” and “Oh an author that I keep seeing pop up on my Goodreads suggestion” This was both. Kate White is someone I have never read but I am so glad that I did because I enjoyed this very much. That being said let me tell you a little bit about the story. Imagine showing up to work in an office you haven't been to for five years. Then discovering you've 'missing' for two whole days and you have no memories of the time. Otherwise healthy, who can you trust? Ally Linden finds herself in the office of a former coworker and lover who is extremely surprised to see her - she has no purse or phone and appears disheveled. Then she passes out.
Waking up in the hospital, pieces of her life come back, but not anything from the past two days. She knows she needs help to rebuild her memories, but who can she trust? Her best friend, her husband, her therapist, her brother AND the ex-boyfriend all have differing perspectives on the two days and she even hires a private investigator. Desperate for answers, Ally tries to track where she spent the missing days, but every detail she unearths points to an explanation that’s increasingly ominous, and it’s clear someone wants to prevent her from learning where those forty-eight hours went. Along the way, she remembers something from her past that she's afraid has implications in a cold case murder, but what set off the memories? The key to her missing memories could bring relief—or unlock her worst nightmares. All and all this was a great read the last thirty percent goes so fast and the resolution to the story is very satisfying. Kate White is a new author to me but I will for sure be picking up anything new that I come across. Thank you Netgalley and all parties involved for my arc of this book. I apologize that my review was late that is more a timing issue then a book issue because this is a great read.
When Allie shows up at her office and realizes she hasn’t worked there in over 5 years, she is determined to figure out what happened that she doesn’t remember. Overall, the book was entertaining, but I feel like there were too many story lines that didn’t really make sense together and didn’t need to be there. I enjoyed reading the book, and think other people will too, but it’s not my favorite book written. I excited to read more from this author though. Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Paperbacks for early access to this title.
This one grabbed me in the beginning and kept the suspense going. There was a great cast of characters who all seemed to be a little shifty and could possibly be behind all of Ally's current issues. But the way this one ended was just so abrupt. It ended too quickly and with too many unanswered questions.
This was such an interesting read that reminded me a lot of BEFORE I GO TO SLEEP. It was a thrilling mystery that had me really invested at the beginning. I felt that the middle dragged out a little too much, and I was asking myself “okay so what happens?” and eager for it to finish. I think some of the details in the end were a little rushed, but all in all this was a quick, fast thriller. Thank you to Harper and Netgalley for the advanced copy!
This book has cemented my love of Kate White's books - she has become yet another author where I plan to read everything and anything that she has written. There is just something about her books that I cannot help but enjoy! Have You Seen Me? has such an intriguing premise that I couldn't help but want to read it as soon as I had read the above summary. Unreliable narrators are a popular choice in thrillers but the idea of showing up to work only to find that you don't work there (and haven't for some time) is horrifying to contemplate. I cannot even imagine! I loved that the author then took us one this suspenseful journey where Ally is trying to find her missing memories. I spent my entire time reading this book trying to figure out what was going on and what had caused Ally to disassociate from her life. The short chapters helped to make this book one very tense and fast paced read! My one and only complaint with this book was that I didn't love the ending. I can't really say why without sharing spoilers but I will say that I was a bit unsatisfied with the ending. It wasn't horrible or anything - just a bit unsatisfying (and really it's a me thing more than the book itself honestly). That being said - the fact that I enjoyed this book so much up until that ending still made this book a really enjoyable read for me! I think that this is my 4th book by White and they have all been at least four star reads. I WILL be reading more by White and soon.
Overall, I enjoyed this book immensely and can easily recommend it! It was a page turner that kept me reading late into the night. This book is labeled as a novel of suspense which I would definitely agree with as it was a very suspenseful read! There was just a description on bookstagram the other day on the difference between mysteries, thrillers and suspense which has really stuck with me. I think that it's important to try and share what kind of book it is so that people go in with the right expectations (if that's something they worry about I suppose). Anyways, I can easily recommend this one to fans of suspense, those readers who enjoy unreliable narrators (not necessarily the case here but similar feel since Ally is missing memories), and those readers who love a good mystery.
Bottom Line: A page turning and suspenseful read that I couldn't stop reading!
Disclosure: I received a copy of this book thanks to the publisher. Honest thoughts are my own.

2.75 Hearts I will be honest, I didn’t get it. I thought that the story was ok and thought I had it figured out. And I did figure out the who-dun-it but the why-do-it was so out of the blue that it just didn’t make sense.
I have read other books by White and remember enjoying them but it almost felt that White wanted to make sure you didn’t figure it out so much that the answer wasn’t just outside the box it wasn’t even in the delivery van.

I can’t remember the last time a book made me so anxious. But, since we’re talking about thrillers here, this is a good thing. This was fast-moving and heart-pounding. And it gave me the same confused dizziness of Vertigo, Hitchcock’s greatest film (IMHO).
I really felt the vertiginous experience of Ally, a woman who walked into her office one morning ready to start her day, only to realize that she hasn’t worked at that company for the last five years. She soon learns that she’s had a dissociative episode, then we follow her as she tries to figure out what she did while she was ‘blacked out’ and what trauma triggered the dissociative state in the first place. It’s kind of the perfect thriller set up, no?
Even better, by the midpoint of the book, every single character seemed like he or she could be either guilty or dangerous. I can’t say much, since I don’t want to give away any twists or surprises, but I will say that I appreciate Kate White’s incredibly tight storytelling, along with her ability to trust the intelligence of the reader. When it comes to thrillers, she is such a pro...
Lastly, I’m impressed that this book has a very meaningful title and ending. You’ll have to read it to find out what I mean.
And read it you should!! Trust me -- if you’re a fan of psychological thrillers, you do not want to miss this one!
Thank you #netgalley and @Harpercollins for the ARC!
Ally Linden arrives at her office one morning, drenched from a rainstorm, and concerned that her key card seems to be missing. When she encounters her boss, he gently tells her that she hasn’t worked in that office for five years. How could she have forgotten that? Furthermore, why doesn’t she remember how she got to the office or, for that matter, what she has been doing for the last two days?
This opening chapter sets the tone and the mood for Kate White’s stand-alone thriller, Have You Seen Me? Diagnosed as suffering from a dissociative episode, Ally attempts to piece together the missing parts of her memory. Did she suffer from some sort of trauma? Is there any connection to an incident that occurred when she was a child? As Ally tried to sort out her conflicting emotions, she finds herself suspicious of her husband, her best friend, her ex-boyfriend, and even her therapist. What triggered her break from reality and will it happen again?
Have You Seen Me? is a well-written and well-plotted thriller. The suspense is slow but relentless. The characters are believable, sympathetic, and well-developed. And the ending is unexpected, satisfying, and well-done.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I’m on the hunt for more books by Kate White.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a copy of this book for review.
5 out of 5 stars
Thank you to Harper Paperbacks and Netgalley for allowing me to read this novel in exchange for an honest review.
When Ally arrives at work without her purse and wet from the rain her boss is shocked to see her. Why? She hasn't worked there in ages. After Ally goes to the hospital she is told that she is experiencing a dissociative fugue state. Now she must work to figure out what is causing this and what her triggers are. As she begins to search for her missing she finds out that she has been missing for two days and when she asks her husband why he didn't tell the doctors when he went to pick her up his excuse seems a bit odd to her. Will Ally be able to solve the mystery behind what is going on with her before it is too late?
Pick up this fun thriller! It is a great way to spend a day or two!
I’m really torn in writing this because I absolutely devoured the first part of this but found the ending to be severely lacking in resolution, which was ultimately a letdown. It starts off with a woman, Ally, discovering that she has amnesia. This seems to be a common theme in this genre as of late, as I’ve been coming across an abundance of characters suffering from amnesia. Ally recovers from her fugue state fairly quickly and soon remembers everything except the last 3 days. She hires a private detective and seeks to solve the mystery of what happened and why she can’t remember. Meanwhile, all sorts of other drama surrounds her, involving her husband, her intern, therapist, sister-in-law., and a tragic event from her past. There is a lot going on in the plot. This wouldn’t be so bad if the ending had more of a resolution. I felt that there were several threads left unresolved and I finished the book wanting to know so much more. I think this potentially could’ve been a 5 star book, but, sadly, I’m giving it 2.5 stars rounded up.
This book kept me guessing. Kate White nicely kept you in suspense and could lead you to many possible suspects. I felt the stress of the main character throughout as she tried to figure out exactly what happened during the missing 2 days of her life/memory.
Well, another night up racing to finish this suspenseful book by Kate White!
Ally arrives at her former workplace dirty and confused...only to find out she has no recollection of the past two days, let alone why she went there. It doesn't help that almost everyone in her life is lying to her, so finding the breadcrumbs to reveal her path during that missing time is harder than it should be. I had my suspicions about what happened, but of course I was completely wrong, which I love!
There was a great deal of detail on what people were wearing - every time Ally met someone, changed her clothes, her husband changed her clothes, or the scene changed, we got a description of what they were wearing. I thought I'd mention it because I'm not sure why, but it just stood out to me in this book. I appreciated that answers were spelled out without being overdone, or cliched, or all at once. The ending didn't feel rushed at all. If you're a fan of "missing time" books, you will love Have You Seen Me!

“‘What are you doing here?’ he demands.
‘It’s my first day back.’
‘What are you talking about?’ He steps closer, his eyes burrowing into me. ‘You haven’t worked here in years.’”
So begins the new thriller, Have You Seen Me?, by Kate White.
Ally Linden is thirty-four. And that’s all she remembers besides her former job’s address. And her steamy affair with the man that still works there. After fainting in her former office, she is rushed to the hospital. When nothing physically wrong with her is found, she is quickly moved to the psych ward for observation. Once there, her memory partially returns.
She’s a personal finance journalist who lives in a swanky apartment in New York City with her husband Hugh, a lawyer. But Ally still has no memory of what happened earlier that morning. In a thriller, with a husband no one can find, I would be worried, very worried, if I was Ally. Poor Ally’s life only spirals further out of her control when her husband finally appears.
What is my pet peeve about thrillers? When you race through a great one only to be met by either an abrupt or an unsatisfying ending. Unfortunately, Have You Seen Me? suffers from this fate. I’ll give it three stars but know it was at least a four star read up until the conclusion.
Thanks to Harper Books and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review.
Have You Seen Me? by Kate White is a standalone suspense novel which follows Ally Linden, a thirty-four year old, NYC-based finance journalist. The book opens to Ally at work—only to discover she quit that job five years ago to become a freelancer. Over the course of the book, Ally must piece together the last forty-eight hours, which she cannot remember.
Overall, I really enjoyed Have You Seen Me? Doused in low-key suspense, I was hooked from the beginning and on edge for most of the story. I was eager to discover what happened to Ally and how she lost her memory of the past two days, and the author did a wonderful job instilling distrust in everyone Ally encounters. This riveting, twisty read is perfect for fans who want to dip their toes into the suspense genre.
I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley. This is my honest, unbiased review.
Kate White’s latest novel left me breathlessly anticipating what would happen next and guessing right up until the last page. Ally Linden has lost two days of her life to amnesia and is desperate to find out where she was and what she was doing during those forty eight missing hours. She is married to Hugh, a successful and distant husband who works late and leaves early each day, seeming to have little time for Ally. Ally hires a P.I. to help her discover what she was doing those two days and therein lies the danger for her, apparently. Someone doesn’t really want her to know where she was and why she has forgotten those hours. There is also a sub-plot about her having discovered a murdered toddler one day on her way home from school. This was an unexpected extra twist in a story that was very complicated and extremely satisfying. As a fan of mystery and suspense books, there are few books that can keep me fooled and interested the entire journey through its pages, but this was one such book. I loved it! Fans of mystery/suspense and mild thrillers will enjoy this book for sure and Kate White’s fans will want more from this talented and compelling author.

Have You Seen Me? by Kate White is a recommended novel of suspense.
Early in the morning Ally Linden arrived at her office disheveled and rain soaked only to discover she didn't have her keycard. Once her boss arrives, she is shocked to learn that she hasn't work there in five years and she faints. At the hospital Ally discovers that she is suffering from a dissociative episode and she can't remember the events of the last two days. She also doesn't have her handbag or cell phone. She does remember that she is married to Hugh, is a finance journalist, and other facts are readily available, but she cannot recall a single event from the last two days.
After finding a wad of bloody tissues in her coat pocket, Ally wonders if she saw some traumatic accident or if a past experience could have triggered this event. Ally decides that she needs to hire a private detective to try and uncover her actions over the last two days. She knows there was tension in her marriage because she is not ready for children, but could a fight over this trigger the dissociative event? Her husband seems caring, but distant and her best friend is not available, so she turns to her brother and therapist for support. She also feels, at times, like she's being watched.
Admittedly when the story started out with Ally not remembering where she was for the last two days I rolled my eyes, but I went along with it. Most of this uneven suspense novel consists of Ally trying to recall events and tracking down clues. While the writing is very descriptive, the pace is slow at times which made the novel drag a bit for me. I also tired of some of the descriptions of clothing, food, and homes. If you enjoy all of these details all the time, then it is very likely you'll enjoy this novel more. Frankly, I almost set this novel aside more than once due to the uneven pace.
On the plus side the characters were well developed and realistic. White throws in plenty of red herrings to keep you guessing and there are enough twists to keep you reading. The ending though.... rushed and unbelievable. 3.5, but I'm rounding down.

In best selling author Kate Whites newest novel, a woman seeks to reveal the truth behind the two days in her life that she can’t seem to remember.
Ally Linden arrives at her office completely drenched and feeling somewhat out of sorts. That feeling only intensifies when she learns from her ex (who owns the business) that she no longer works there. In fact, she hasn’t worked there in over five years. She can’t seem to remember much more than her name. Where has she been and why has she returned to this place? After fainting, Ally is sent to the hospital where she is questioned by staff. She slowly begins to remember her life, except for the two days. She is diagnosed with dissociative amnesia and doesn’t appear to have any physical injuries.
Ally returns to her home, husband, and work life. She slowly begins to remember bits and pieces but the fact that she has no knowledge of what may have transpired to cause her disorder continues to nag at her. Could it be an event from her childhood that caused this? But what would have happened to bring up that event so many years later? Did she witness something traumatic or even worse, do something horrible in those two days? To solve the mystery, Ally decides to hire a private investigator. Will he be able to give Ally the answers she needs or raise more questions?
Get ready for a thriller that you can’t put down until you find the same answers Ally is looking for.
