This book had me hooked and I read it in one sitting. The mysteries were well plotted and I didn't see the final reveal coming. The pacing is a little slow at the beginning, but that's the only negative thing about this book I can think of.
Have you ever wondered what would happen if you lost your memory? If yes, read this book. An unusual premise builds into a horrific (to the main character) reveal late in the book, one you won't see coming.
At first, I was dissatisfied with the pace of the story but as you go on you realize the reader is being forced to learn details at the same pace as the main character. Very clever! Don't spoil the reveal by reading ahead because you need those very small details from the other chapters to understand why and what.
I have never read a Kate White book I didn’t love, and this one is no exception! Kate White is a thriller genius. You will never see what is coming in this book and how it played out. Definitely one of the best!
Really enjoyed this book. It was hard to put down and kept a very fast entertaining pace. Great story and fantastic writing. I look forward to reading more by this author.
Full of lowkey tension that had me on edge the whole time... until a slightly rushed ending dampened things a bit. BUT still very solid, and a hearty recommendation if, like me, you like suspense novels driven by taught interpersonal conflicts, deep buried secrets, and a heroine who both can't quite trust herself OR anyone she knows. This book plays on the amnesia trope nicely without doing a full wipe--the main character can remember everything except for the past 72 hours. But something BAD must have happened to her in those 72 hours, and now she doesn't know who to trust.
The book has a lovely throughline of low, simmering tension. I was on edge with the MC, re: who to trust. A few of the twists and turns were pretty intense, and very engaging. I was fully on board until the very end. The big reveal is a tick rushed, with a few missed opportunities for more rising tension and a big finish. I just felt like my suspense, anticipation and excitement was punctured just a beat too early. That said, the rest of the resolution of things was satisfying--I always appreciate a few chapters after the climax to chew on all the threads coming together, and settling into the MC's feelings about everything.
This one will work for those who like a bit of domestic suspense, a bit of Lifestyles of the Unbelievably Rich New Yorker, a bit of "intriguing dark childhood secrets," and of course amnesia trope. It was a good read, but I do wish the ending had been a homerun!
Kate White has always been a writer I liked, and respected, but with this novel she will firmly be placed on my must-read list. I've been looking for a book that was fast-paced and this absolutely fit the bill. It pulls you in from the very first sentence and doesn't let go until the very end. It was fun trying to piece together the missing parts of Ally's life, to wonder if Ally was just paranoid and unhinged or if she was truly in danger.... I read this book at every given opportunity-- I couldn't get enough. Definitely a hit, definitely something I will recommend!
This is a wonderful thriller about Ally, who is missing 2 whole days of her life.
A wonderful fast paced thriller with many twists and turns that will leave you wondering, WHAT happened to Ally? There really is no way to guess this one.
Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was a very good book. I felt instantly connected to the main character and invested in figuring out the mystery of what had happened to her. The ending was not what I would have guessed and that is a good thing. My only complaint is that it felt rushed in the end to tie up a lot of loose ends.
When you pick up a Kate White novel, you know it will be good. The characters make you care, and the plot is tight and keeps you guessing. “Have You Seen Me?” does all of these.
This is my first book by Kate White but I have heard rave reviews about previous ones. I was holding my breath hoping this would be the same for me, so that I could have several new books to delve into after this one. While I wouldn't say this was the most suspenseful or shocking ending book that I have read, it was a well done one.
It starts out with Ally showing up drenched in the rain at her job. But, wait this isn't her job anymore? She can't remember much and is taken to the ER. As her memory starts to come back, some is still missing and they figure out she is in a fugue state. But what was the cause of it?
We find out she has recently been in therapy and has remembered a long forgotten traumatic memory of finding the body of a murdered child. The murderer was never found. Could this be the cause of everything? Is this all connected? As we go along with Ally to figure out what happened during those missing two days, you will find some twists and turns that are unexpected.
A solid mystery that is a good and quick read, I recommend finding out what really happened to Ally during those two days and when she as a child.
This was a great thriller and I read it super fast! The pacing was great and the story was full of twists. I was hoping for a little bit more from the ending but overall this was a great mystery and I will be looking for more by this author. Thank you netgalley for this arc in exchange for my honest opinion.
I was going to give this 5 stars....but, I really disliked the end. It was an awesome book, kept me reading the whole thing in one sitting. Then, I felt seriously let down, like, some of the story just didn't come together. I feel it needs at least a few more chapters to tie up loose ends.
LOVED this book. Riveting and mesmerizing. Unusual plot and characters you can empathize with. Ten stars to this book and author, great job!!!!!
This is an intriguing story with many twists and turns. It is, at times, difficult to determine the culprit who is guilty of trying to get rid of the protagonist. However! The clues lead the reader to the correct ending. This book holds the reader’s attention until the end.
There is some offensive language which has no place in the story and could be left out. There are some characters who are mysterious and others who seem
to be in the story for little purpose. The author attempts to throw the reader off in solving the mystery with clues that are
Puzzling. All in all a good read!
Suspenseful plot that is full of leads into the reasons behind a woman's loss of memory. Excellent lead up to the final reveal, which was slightly disappointing and not as clever plotting as I would have wished. But, entertaining reading, overall.
I love a great mystery and this filled the bill. I have enjoyed all of Kate White’s books, and this was not a disappointment. The story of Ally, who goes through a few days in a fugue state, but cannot figure out why or what triggered it.
The situation is complicated by her earlier experience as a child finding a body and a husband who is certainly engaged in suspicious activities.
There are lots of twists, but the author pulls them all together. I really enjoyed this and was totally engaged while I was reading this.
Another great job from White. Thank you Netgalley for a very enjoyable read.
