This book had a really promising start and I was really looking forward to getting to the juicy parts of the book. Unfortunately, it quickly went downhill from there - I don't know if it was the writing or the character development but this book was not for me. I do see how some people might enjoy it if you are looking for a romance book - but don't go in with the expectation that it will be super deep or anything like that.
oh how i love these kinds of books. maggie and ryker are such a thrilling couple and i would suggest anyone who enjoys bad boy romances to pick this book up
Wow, Sweet Revenge is one hell of a book. This Jennifer Hanks story will grab you immediate, and take you on one hell of an angsty ride. It is a great read.
If you want to read about two characters who have chilling backstories, look no further.
Thank you NetGalley for the digital ARC. I left this book in my library for a few months and what a mistake! I was HOOKED by the end of the first page! This book was everything! Suspense, romance, MC life, revenge. The whole package! I am officially a fan of Jennifer Hanks and hereby vow to read anything she writes! New fan for life!
I love reading MC romances and Sweet Revenge hit the mark for me. It had all the elements I'm looking for in this type of story: intrigue, suspense and jaded but loyal to a fault characters. It was raw and gritty and kept me reading well into the night. Maggie and Gunner together melted my heart. She's been through a lot of bad situations and doesn't trust easily but Gunner will do anything to protect Maggie and show her that there are still good men out there. I loved how the characters were presented, they all have depth and were relatable. Revenge, secrets, and enemies may stand in their way to happiness but when you have love, brotherhood, and honor everything can be overcome. This story will pull at your heartstrings. I recommend it!
Maggie went through hell. She has been abused physically and verbally ever since she met Snake when she was young. Now she is escaping but she may putting her self and other in danger by running away from Snake.
Gunner wanted Maggie ever since he saw her and he would do anything to protect her. He knew she was from rival MC but she was trying to help Gunner's MC.
Both needed each other in more ways. They were facing more dangers ever since Maggie was under Gunner's protection and when Snake finds where Maggie is, he is planning to rage war against Gunner's BC.
Emotional roller coaster from beginning to the end. Maggie goes through hell and it is not an easy to go through but finding HEA at the end was worth it.
Thanks to Netgalley for ARC in exchange for honest review.
This was really good and so cute. I loved it so much! I cant wait to see what else this author releases!
This was not my cup of tea. Maggie went through horrible ordeals and I could hardly stomach her exposure to the MC club not to mention the romance between her and Gunner felt very shocking when you think what she has gone through in the past.
Though there were cute moments, the pacing was also a bit off and some parts just dragged on unnecessarily.
3 1/2 Stars!
Maggie’s mother died when she was fifteen and she was left to fend for herself on the streets until a couple of years later when Snake found her. But Maggie’s luck didn’t get any better, as Snake beat her and used her as his personal sex slave. Years later she breaks free and runs to the rival MC’s The Sinners. That’s where she meets Gunner ... her knight in shining armour. But can he protect her from her past ... and his past?
I really liked Gunner, but I couldn’t understand why he didn’t try to help Maggie sooner. And although I liked Maggie, she was just a little too helpless ... but she became stronger as the book went on. I think the author introduced too many characters at the beginning and it was hard to keep them straight. But I’m glad I stayed with it because I really enjoyed the end and can’t wait for the next book.

There were so many things wrong with this book that I almost don't even know where to begin. So, after literally SEVEN years of being raped and abused by one guy, the lead girl immediately jumps and enters a physical relationship with another? It's actually really gross and uncomfortable, and I couldn't vibe with Gunner's stalk-y behavior. Ugh.
This book was great. It was filled with romantic suspense that kept me entertained. Maggie and Gunnar are perfect for each other. I enjoy MC romances but feel they are pretty hard to execute well - this one does a good job. It’s not over the top and cheesy but sustains the elements you hope for in an MC romance. This was a 3.5 star read for me.
I am sorry but this just was tooo heartbreaking for me to continue and I had read some reviews that mention that there is a cliffhanger I hate those. Even though I have read some pretty tough books and with triggers I just couldn't..
Sweet Revenge is my first book by this author and I loved that this MC book was not misogynistic or degrading to women, The story started out very good and it hooked me right away however, it's supposed to be a standalone but I didn't feel like I was able to connect to many of the characters in the story without having read the backstory from what I'm assuming is a previous series. I also felt like there was a lot of setup for the next story without fully wrapping up Maggie and Gunner's relationship. So overall, I'm giving this book three chilli peppers of hotness.
I received a free ARC from the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion. All thoughts are my own.
I received a copy of Sweet Revenge by Jennifer Hanks from Bravia Books, LLC and NetGalley in exchange for and honest review. Thank you!
I give Sweet Revenge by Jennifer Hanks 3 stars. Although I was not a fan of Maggie's story, I powered through. And I'm glad I did because I liked the story between Maggie and Gunner. Becs was funny and I'd like to read her story.
I've been struggling a bit lately with my reading, but after reading reviews of Sweet Revenge, I knew this would be a great way to get back on track. Unfortunately, the struggle continued. Jennifer Hanks was a new author for me. Her writing and storyline reminded me of Kristen Ashley, but didn't draw me in the same way. To be fair, although this can be read as a stand alone, I don't think it should be. Throughout the book, I seemed to lose interest during scenes with characters from prior books that I had no knowledge of. While these characters must have only added to the excitement of some scenes, it did the opposite for me. Still, while I can say that I would have had a better foundation for this book if I had read others in the series beforehand, I don't know that I would have wanted to read them, nor do I know for a fact that I wouldn't have lost interest.
We are introduced to the main character, Gunner, who is currently the VP of the Sinners, an MC trying to go clean and stay clean. This wasn't all that clear, nor did it seem to be very important. In fact, this book stays away from actual club drama as much as possible and instead focuses on saving Gunner's love interest, Maggie. Not only does Gunner have some kind of connection to this woman, but she is also the ex-lover of Snake, president of the Widow's. The Widow's are the local rival club, lead by Gunner's father and enemy. They are basically the worst kind of MC, involved in trafficking women and children for the cartel. While that would make for an interesting but horrifying read, our story mentions that these things are happening but doesn't shine any light on them. There was an opportunity for depth here, but the author stayed very close to the surface. Perhaps that's why I lost interest in this book.
Maggie is an incredibly beaten and battered woman, with a great story to tell. Her seemingly speedy recovery limits her story, which had the opportunity for so much growth. Even so, the MC is seemingly obsessed with Maggie, even though there are women and children being trafficked right on their front lawn. Normally, I would still be able to appreciate a book like this but I may have put too much stock in this being my comeback book.
I haven't read much MC books, but this wasn't my cup of tea. I didn't like the Main character girl and i felt like the main character man was sort of boring? i didn't learn so much about him , it felt like. I skimmed most part because i could'nt get interested or invested in the story at all.
I really liked this book. I don't recall ever reading a MC series before, but I enjoyed the characters and I'm looking forward to more in the series.
Must Read!!
Maggie has been beaten down literally by Snake who was the Prez of the Black Widows MC. Gunner had kept an eye on Maggie since the first time he saw her with Snake. He knew that there was something special about this lady but he had no idea the life she had been living with Snake. Gunner was the VP of the Sinners MC and had kept a huge secret from his club since he joined up with his best friend Bear who was the club president. They together wanted to bring the Sinners out of the past they had led and turn into something more honorable…more about family and brotherhood.
Both Maggie and Gunner had an incredibly tough life growing up and now Gunner wanted to be the one to save Maggie from the torturous life she had lived. There are so many obstacles in their way it seemed impossible but these two somehow were trying to make it work. The Black Widows MC mother chapter wanted in on the plan to bring not only Maggie down but take Gunner down as well. You’ll have to read to see what the surprising connections all were. And let me tell you they made your mouth drop. So worth the read. Now I can’t wait for End Game to come out!!
Thanks to the publisher for a copy to read and give my honest opinion.
As far as MC stories go this one was pretty good. Maggie has had a rough life being picked up barely eighteen by an MC guy named Snake. After being abused by him for many years she know she has to do something or people will get hurt, so she goes to another MC club to get help.
What did I like? Maggie and Gunner have an easy chemistry, and the authors gradual exploration of Maggie coming out of her shell was amazing. I enjoyed the club camaraderie and Gunners honesty. I’m not much for one percenters but the Sinners in my book were really Saints.
Would I recommend this or buy? I would definitely recommend this as a new MC series for MC lovers. It has an authentic feel and I think you’d enjoy it.
Thoughts for the author? Thanks for the copy I’d definitely like the next in the series. Four stars of worthy reading.
This was a book that started with a very promising and intriguing story line but the execution didn't leave me connected to the engaged to the characters. The heroines back story was a highlight. Her life was thrown to the wolves for the most part when she was a teenager and never got on track until a brave decision to free herself. I loved the commendations she received for her courage in making her life better however I never saw her as more than her tragedy. Her growth felt dependent on the MC and the hero who wanted her and I wanted so much more for her in terms of development. She was made as a naive, wilting flower which is fine when the development works but I just didn't think she ever grew into something more. Likewise, the hero had an interesting backstory too but he was over-alpha'ed, if you will, and the club stuff took over where I felt he could of perpetuated some growth. The Sinners MC is a bit misleading as their sinners looking for wholesome redemption in brotherhood and camaraderie. The MC portions get gritty but not overly dark at all. The secondary characters lent interesting breaks to this slow burn romance story of overcoming. Sweet Revenge was told from dual points of view and I did enjoy getting each perspective as it kept the book moving at a good pace.
