Wow! Sweet Revenge by Jennifer Hanks drew me in immediately. This motorcycle club, biker romance was so sweet and action-packed. Maggie has been abused for years by Snake, a member of the Widows MC. She is finally rescued and escapes his abuse by turning to the Sinners MC, a rival club, with the help of Luke Dimarco, who has been trying to help her since they met. The story focuses on Maggie and Gunner, the vice president of the Sinners. Their relationship built slowly, as Maggie had to heal and discover herself before diving into a relationship. Gunner was incredibly sweet and protective of Maggie the entire time. Maggie and Gunner's relationship was cute, and the writing never got overly explicit. The underlying threat of Snake and Gunner's father remained constant until the climax of the novel. I loved Becs, Bear, and all the other secondary characters. This story is the first in the Sinners MC series, but has many recurring characters from Hanks' series The Dimarcos. However, it was still very easy to follow and it is not necessary to read The Dimarcos before reading Sweet Revenge. This is not the most explicit MC book I have read, and is a good introduction to biker romances. However, I felt that Maggie and Gunner read a bit too much like teenagers at times, even though they are not (she is 25). The story ended on a happy note for the couple, but a cliffhanger for the club and the other characters. There is a clear introduction to a few other characters love lives and possible future books (Becs and Race, Bear, Kat and Bull). This book is definitely one I would recommend, I think it was incredibly sweet but also had lots of suspense and action and a great group of supporting characters. I can't wait for Hanks' next Sinners MC novel, which is Bear's story!
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Thank you NetGalley..
This was my first book by this author.
I'm a fan of MC reads, so I was excited for this book.
It was a page-turner, for sure. I loved the characters and the storyline.
Will definitely be reading more by this author too!
Jennifer Hanks is a new to me author, and I love MC books so much that I was super excited to read this one!
I was gripped in the pages of Sweet Revenge and loved that there was an underlining level of suspense to this storyline. It kept me guessing and interested. I can't wait to read more in this series and from this author!
This was my first dive into the MC world and I can honestly say I do not hate it. I had a hard time following some of the story line since this is my first novel by Jennifer Hanks but I look forward to going back and reading the Dimarco series and the Elite Security series to better understand some of the other characters in the story. I really want to learn more about Luke and Kate since Maggie had such a strong story line with Luke and I was trying to fully understand that background of that. I love not only the romance between Gunner (Ryker) and Maggie but also how this was not just a romance but a story about a domestic abuse victim finding her voice and knowing what it finally felt like to feel strong and empowered. I love how Jennifer brought in the Dimarco family element to truly give Maggie the feeling of a family after never having more then her mother before. This is a book I plan to revisit once I finish the other series.
Thank you to netgalley, and Jennifer Hanks for allowing me to read this ARC is exchange for my honest review.
Sweet Revenge is book one in Jennifer Hanks` new Sinners MC series and it’s definitely an intense and powerfully written story. There’s action, danger and the breathtaking relationship between Gunner and Maggie to keep readers glued to their seats, and a depiction of loyalty and honour that resides in this larger than life man. I thoroughly enjoyed my first read by Ms Hanks and look forward to what comes next.
"She was a balm to my battered soul."
My addiction to MC Romance led me to a new dealer. This is my first time to read anything by this author and I'm very happy to report that it was a good decision that paid off. I really enjoyed Sweet Revenge and look forward to more Sinners MC.
Maggie has been in survival mode for years. Not living, just existing...barely. She's learned not to trust anyone, even herself. Looking back she realizes that the hopeless situation she finds herself in is the result of a bad decision that she's been paying for in pain. She's broken and though she might not have been brave enough to save herself she can't let someone else be hurt, right?
Gunner has watched her from afar. Knowing she was taken. But unable to look away from her beauty when he is lucky enough to get a glimpse. He never expected her to do what she did. He still can't believe how brave she is. How much longer can he fight his feelings for her when she's close enough to touch?
I was so proud of Maggie for pulling up her big-girl-panties and taking care of business in spite of her fear. She's placed her own life in danger, but she's never felt safer. She knows more than she should. She wants what she can't have. She needs something she can't even name.
Yeah, I have no problem naming it for her. G-U-N-N-E-R! That sweet sexy badass biker is exactly what she needs to scratch that itch she can't identify. And guess what, he's not so sweet to the bad guys. That softer side comes out for her...sigh.
I fell hard for the Sinners MC family and excited to spend more time with them. The line forms here...

I've never read an MC romance—I've started a couple but have never been able to finish them—but when I saw this on NetGalley I thought I'd give it a try. Unfortunately, I won't be finishing this one either. There was so much exposition in the first few chapters that I couldn't connect to the story. The main character is just so tragic. And I feel like it will turn into one of those stories where every single other character is 100% dedicated to protecting the helpless and fragile heroine, and I don't like that. It's just too precious. I guess MC romances aren't for me.
I’m not big on changing point of views. However, I found this story to be sweet. I’d never heard of this author before, but after reading this and learning that the character in the book was originally brought in in another book series separate from this one by this same author, I now have to go and read that series!
Thank you netgalley and the publisher for this copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
Jennifer has done it again, I cannot but blame her for making me fall in love with a whole world of men who do not exist and strong real women, I adore her series the DimMarcos and this is the first in a new series set off from the DiMarcos (but we see them !) and into the world of Sinners MC. A wonderful story, full of twists and turns, amazing heartbreaking characters you will love and great writing. This is a wonderful start to the new set and I cannot wait for future books
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion
Sweet Revenge is the first book in the Sinners MC series and a great starting point for readers wanting to get into MC romances. Hanks wrote a raw, gritty yet sweet love story between Maggie and Gunner that left me wanting more. I haven't read any of Hanks' other books yet but apparently Maggie is introduced in her Dimarco series. To say Maggie has gone through a lot is an understatement so getting her story now as she finds the inner strength (though doesn't realise it at the time) to rise up and leave is wonderful. Gunner, despite his bad boy reputation, is an absolute gentleman with Maggie and helps her gain back her independence, self-esteem and hope for a future.
I enjoyed Hanks' writing style and found this story to have genuine dialogue, relationships and emotions, and to be the perfect balance between alternating POVs. After reading this story, I would be interested in picking up the Dimarco series in the future.
Eeeek!
This book description was awesome, I love Jennifer Hanks's writing so this was a no-brainer to read. Oh my! I completely didn't put the characters together until a few pages in and then I was THRILLED to be reading Sweet Revenge. I have read each of the Dimarco books and was beyond excited to get Maggie's story! Oh, and the sexy Gunner!
Maggie is the brave woman who from Luke Dimarco's story. Gunner is the hot biker with the heart of gold that is absolutely meant for the broken and battered Maggie. Gunner has his own battle wounds and these two heal one another.
This was a great story and an awesome kick off the the Sinner MC series. There are so many sparks that shot off from this first book that I am excited to see where they land and the inferno of stories to follow!
Maggie could be forgiven for never wanting to have anything to do with a Motorbike Club again, after the abuse that she suffers at the hands of Snake. When she escapes from his clutches and is taken in by the Sinners she soon starts to trust them and even finds the chance of love with the sweet Gunner.
Like many MC romances that I have read the book doesn't shy away from the darker side of MC, but it does push the idea that the Sinners are different and have been doing what they can to sort themselves out and clean up. I suppose that's to be expected, as who wants bad boys that have no redeeming features? Where this one is possibly a little different is that there are no punches pulled when it comes to the darker side of other clubs. The rival club, the widows seems to be full of truly evil people.
I enjoyed reading Maggie and Gunner's story and I liked the way that it developed. I did find Maggie a little difficult to connect with to begin with. But she improved as the book progressed, I'm not sure what the difficulty was, but it may have just been me. It does mean that I'd be inclined to give this one a 3 1/2 rounded up to 4 stars. Overall it was a good start to the series and I'd be keen to read about more of the MC members.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Sweet Revenge by Jennifer Hanks is a gritty and raw book. There is a lot of language and a code characters within the book live by. The book itself has a solid story line. While a stand alone novel, some of the characters within the story had obviously had novels about themselves, so if you don't read the previous ones, it is similar to jumping in and finding your feet. You can do it, but you have to piece things together.
I really like how Hanks wrote to give Maggie her own voice. Though a victim, Maggie is given the chance to heal, make a life for herself and more importantly make her own decisions.
**This book contains triggers: sexual assault, violence, abuse, etc.
I received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.
This is my first book from this author and it was a good read. I enjoyed Luke, Maggie, Gunner, Becs and Bear characters. Maggie has been living in hell since the loss of her mother and unfortunately for her the person she thought would be her savior had became her captor and abuser. Gunner has his own past that he keeps hidden. There's bad blood between father and son and with Maggie's life in danger, blood must be shed. I'm glad that Maggie's character showed growth with the help of Becs, Gunner and the MC crew. I also enjoyed her friendship with Becs. There were laugh out loud moments in this story, sweet and steamy scenes, revenge, betrayal and more, but this story was also missing something. I wished there was a little more of the MC aspect to it with the main characters. Most of the action seem to happen near the end of the story and this book ends with a bit of a cliffhanger. This was a good read but I'm unsure if I will read the next book in this series. I also wish there was more chemistry between Maggie and Gunner, there were definitely sweet and steamy moments but I wish there was a little more. Overall, it was a good read and I'm glad I gave it a try.
