In the aftermath of a horrible incident, a woman tries to pull herself together. She stumbles upon a new circle of friends who she believes were tailor-made for her. The more time she spends with them, however, the more she realizes that she might be headed for danger herself. Co-authors Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen follow up their smash hits The Wife Between Us and An Anonymous Girl with the superlative novel You Are Not Alone.

Shay Miller lives in New York City but certainly doesn’t live the glamorous NYC lifestyle. She’s a data analyst, and recently she was let go from her permanent position in a company restructure. Now she’s temping, looking for another job and a way out of her life.

She lives with Sean, her former boyfriend-turned-roommate. The two get along really well, although Sean’s new girlfriend isn’t thrilled with the living situation. Shay knows it’s only a matter of time before the two will want place all to themselves.

The worst happens one day while Shay’s waiting for the subway. Just before the train arrives, Shay notices a young woman standing too close to the tracks. Before Shay can think, the woman jumps in front of the oncoming train. Reeling from the event, Shay spends the following days inventing new ways to get around the city so she can avoid the subway and trying to force the image from her brain.

She can’t let go of it, though, and finds a way to insert herself into the former life of the suicide victim. Shay meets the Moore sisters, Cassandra and Jane, and is drawn to them instantly. They’re everything she’s not: well-dressed, meeting high-profile clients through their PR firm, going to the best restaurants and bars in town. Their relationship with one another makes her envious. She has a strained relationship with her mother and stepfather, and her best friend just gave birth to a beautiful baby and is MIA from Shay’s life.

Shay feels like she has no one to talk to, no one who understands her. Despite advice against it, she finds reasons to stay in touch with Cassandra and Jane. The women seem to reciprocate Shay’s friendship, and she thinks that meeting them has been the best stroke of serendipity to happen to her. Her love life starts looking up, her job prospects improve, and she’s even dressing better.

What Shay doesn’t know is that Cassandra and Jane have an agenda. They may have met Shay due to an accident, but they’re going to find a way to turn that accident into a fortuitous event. If it means Shay will have to give up everything, well, they’re ready to make the sacrifice.

Authors Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen prove once again that their writing team can produce thriller gold. Although Shay is obsessed with interesting bits of information, her work as a data analyst doesn’t make her out to be the stereotypical nerd. Hendricks and Pekkanen build Shay with enough complexity to make it seem like she could be anyone. Readers will identify with Shay’s faults and insecurities.

While at times she may come off as naïve, within the story world it makes sense for her to miss warning signals about Cassandra and Jane. By making Shay witness the subway jumper early in the book, Hendricks and Pekkanen guarantee that Shay’s so wrapped up in her grief and confusion about the event and life in general that she doesn’t see what might be obvious to anyone else in the cold light of day. Shay’s life is slowly falling apart; watching someone jump to their death brings her closer to the edge.

Readers will get bits of information about the woman who jumped off the tracks as well as Cassandra, Jane, and the other women who form their tight-knit circle of friends. Even as some pieces fall right into place throughout the novel, as always Hendricks and Pekkanen save some of the best revelations for the end of the book. Over and over, the authors reinforce and challenge the title with ease through their incredible prose. With masterful plotting, Hendricks and Pekkanen have another winner on their hands.

Anyone who enjoys a good, fun thriller will definitely want to check it out. I recommend readers Binge You Are Not Alone.

A few seconds change Shay Miller's life forever. It's almost ironic, as Shay, 31, and a market researcher, is obsessed with data. She's been keeping data books since age eleven, listing statistics and facts the way other girls write in diaries. Shay's recently lost her job, and her roommate and best friend, Sean, spends more time with his girlfriend than her. She feels hopeless and isolated. Then everything changes, and Shay finds herself swept up in the glamorous world of the Moore sisters, Cassandra and Jane. They have a way of making Shay feel different. They also seem to be everywhere, shaping Shay's life in strange ways.

I've learned by now when I pick up a book by the Hendricks-Pekkanen duo that I need to just suspend disbelief for a bit and go with it. If I can do that and enjoy the ride, then the book is a fun little escape mechanism. When looked at via this prism, You Are Not Alone was very successful.

The book is told from different points of view that often stray into various time periods, and it took me a while to keep all the characters straight. Cassandra and Jane have a host of friends, and I had to bookmark the page that introduced them all so I could remember who was who for a while. There seem to be unreliable narrators galore for a while--can we trust Shay? The sisters? Their friends?

I don't want to get too much into the plot and give anything away. It's a crazy story and again, not really probable (I hope). However, it's highly addictive, and I found the book to be compulsively readable. I also really grew to like Shay, even if I was suspicious about her.

There are some great twists and turns in this thriller, which I really enjoyed. I liked how this one kept me guessing, even if there was an eye roll or two in there too. It was definitely wild! 4 stars.

i quite liked the other two books by this author duo, though they both were a bit slow i eventually got hooked and enjoyed the overall story. this one is also a bit slow, which was fine because i expected it, except later on it didn't deliver like the other two did. i feel like it had potential, but it fell flat. in their other books, i was intrigued and the twists shocked me but by the time we got to the twists in this one, i didn't care. lots of coincidences in this book, character development was a bit lacking which sucked because we are supposed to believe certain characters are super driven by certain things, but because the development was lacking i didn't feel/believe it. it also took too long to reveal those motivations, and while we were waiting to get to that, there were too many characters to keep track of. it was all just a bit bogged down in stuff that didn't help the story.

all that being said, i was mildly curious to see the connections and where it was going so i didn't dnf. i could have dnf'd and never wondered about the book again, but instead i just read a few chapters each night and slogged through it.

also, this is ridiculous and means nothing, but in their fake book club they read pride & prejudice and the sisters were jane & cassandra. so i'm sitting there the whole time wondering if there is an Austen reference or relation or something, i searched through all the reviews to see if anyone else thought the same lol. this has no point, just wanted to share.

Make sure your calendar is open. Once you start You Are Not Alone, you will not be stopping.

The Hendricks and Pekkannen team has done it again and I swear, this is their best one yet. Main protagonist, Shay, sees a woman end her life in the subway and is affected in more ways than she, or you, could ever imagine.

Would this affect anyone? Absolutely. But when Shay is drawn into the woman’s life while trying to deal with her own grief, she is finding more similarities than she would like. And yet, this woman’s friends are so nice and so helpful. They take Shay under their wings, help guide her through this horrible thing she witnessed. So really, how bad can they possibly be…?

I received an advanced copy of this book, all opinions are my own.

Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen are back with another stunner, You Are Not Alone. Shay Miller is in a funk — her job is at dead end, her roommate/crush is in love with someone else, and she’s never been lonelier. And then one day on the subway, she witnesses a horrific suicide that rocks her to her core. Shay becomes curious about the woman who jumped — and soon finds herself immersed with the woman’s friends, who have an agenda of their own.

It’s damn near impossible to write much more about the plot without giving it all away! It’s a twisted and dark read, filled with different perspectives.

Thank you NetGalley and St. Martins Press for this advanced copy.

Well that didn't turn out at all as Shay expected. Shay sees something bad happen and wants to learn more about why it happened. During this time she meets some new people who befriends her. All are not as they seem. This book is a good psychological thriller with lots of twists. It will make you keep thinking and then rethinking about what is really going on.

Wow!! This was a book I couldn't put down. It grabbed me from the first page and I forgot about the world around me as I read it straight through. No matter how far-fetched some of it seemed, the authors managed somehow to make it seem perfectly plausible.

Shay is a likable character and I really felt for her as she got in way over her head. Her new "friends" were deliciously evil and try as I might, I couldn't figure out where this plot was going.

Plenty going on, plenty of twists and turns with one shocking revelation after another. I won't be at all surprised if this book is made into a movie.

So this is my first book of 2020 and boy I have a lot to say but I'm not sure how I feel about this book.

Shay has been recently let go of her job, she is not in a relationship and she has very few or any friends, her life starts to feel empty and very lonely until unintentionally witness an incident that put in her the way of the glamorous Moore Sisters and suddenly her life changes for the better but is this a good thing?

This is my second by both authors and they have such good premises but sometimes their execution isn't the best and this had so much potential and the authors didn't develop it at all.

The premise is very intriguing and it had my attention the first 30% of the book but after a while, it starts to drag down and though I understood that both authors were trying to keep the mystery on going until the climax of the story it became boring and when you finally get there you already know whats going to happen and it takes so much away from that end twist. Also, there were secondary characters in the story that didn't add any value to the story.

That being said don't think this is a bad book because is not, both authors know how to keep you on the edge in some scenes, I loved the sense of friendship and companionship between the women in the story and though it turned out to get out of control in some point it was believable to me that all these women get together for a reason. Also how the wrote Shay, the isolation and loneliness she was living and the PTSD description was written so realistic, kudos for the authors

Is a very entertaining read at the beginning and it drags a bit in the middle but it catches on the end

I want to thank Net Galley & St. Martin Press for sending me this digital ARC in exchange for an honest review

Shay is returning from a run when she witnesses a woman jump in front of a subway train. She becomes obsessed with finding out who she is and why she would do such a thing. During this search she meets a group of the victim Amanda’s close friends. Despite the police telling her to let it go, Shay becomes friendlier with the women and more deeply involved in her search. The reader learns, or thinks she does, what is going on fairly early in the book but Shay doesn’t discover it until it is almost too late.
The book is written from the points of view of Shay, sisters Cassandra and Jane, the victim Amanda, and Valerie. It goes from the present to the past which can be a little confusing but this is how the characters are developed. There are several twists and turns, most of which I saw coming but Shay did not. I felt sorry for Shay, a quirky woman fascinated by statistics. She is lonely, having just lost her job and her boyfriend and is living with her best friend, to whom she is attracted but he has a new girlfriend, while she looks for another job. She is ripe for the picking by the group of friends, who are generally evil.
Thanks to Netgalley and St Martin’s press who gave me an advance copy in exchange for this honest review. I have read other books by the authors so I was anxious to read it. I enjoyed it even if I found it a bit unsettling.

Big THANK YOU to St. Martin’s Press for allowing me the opportunity to read and review this newly released book!

I have to say, I LOVED “An Anonymous Girl” and was beyond excited to read this one. Did not disappoint.

I tore thru this book in a matter of days, I kid you not. Captivating read, suspenseful, well written. It will have you on the edge of your seat, racing to find out how it will end! I could definitely see this story, coming to the big screen.

Take it for what it is. Enjoy the read,! Yes, I wanted to strangle Shay, the lead in the story. I found myself yelling at her within my mind, as I read page by page. But remember, Shay was lonely! She needed the validation, the support, the attention and the “Sister’s” knew how to prey upon that. It’s how they managed to grow such a group. A well written story will force an emotion out of the reader. Good, bad indifferent. And, for me, an emotion was pulled, my attention was captivated. Job well done Greer and Sarah!

Thanks again!

A chilling psychological thriller. Shay Miller witnessed a suicide. She seeks out information about the woman and finds herself enraptured with the deceased woman’s friends. The story is told from multiple points of view and goes back and forth in time. Even with these charges, the story is compelling and not confused. The writers took me on a journey that frightened and thrilled. There were well defined characters and a “I did not see that coming” plot twist.

A lonely woman meets two glamorous sisters - surrounded by wealth and beauty. What could go wrong?

Everything. Everything goes wrong.

ARC from Edelweiss and Netgalley

You Are Not Alone is the third release from writing duo Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. They’ve taken the Mystery/Thriller genre by storm since their initial release, so I’m not sure why I’ve waited so long to pick up one of their books. The release of this one obviously remedied that, and I was hooked from the very beginning. Everything was so odd about this book, and the fact that I couldn’t fully connect with any of the characters really added to the mystique of this story. And inability to connect doesn’t always do that. Shay seems to be down on her luck in every aspect of her life, and when she witnesses a gruesome event, the downward spiral continues. Until she meets the Moore sisters. She gets swept up in their lives, and it seems suddenly, as if everything is going her way. It’s almost too good to be true, but Shay never stops to think about that.

This book was told from a lot of different points of view, and it gave this story an added level of excitement; for me, it sustained the ‘I’ve just started a brand new book!’ feeling the entire way through. I was enjoying everyone’s perspective, and it made me excited to get back to their point of view even while I wanted to read the next person’s as well. This novel did a really good job in the suspense area. The villains had their hands in so many different pots that you just never knew when they were going to show up. But It was different from other Thrillers in that you kind of know right away who Shay can trust and who she can’t, but that doesn’t detract from the excitement at all. I liked the clearly defined lines here, and I also found Shay to be a very likeable character. She was going through a rough patch, and it made me really feel for her. So I was always worried how she would react when her ‘too good to be true’ house of cards came tumbling down. I will say that I didn’t find the twist at the end to be that mind-blowing, but again, I enjoyed the story so much that I really didn’t care. I also liked how smart and resourceful Shay was once she realized what was going on. I like to have a character I can root for no matter what genre I’m reading.

I thought You Are Not Alone was a solid Thriller, and it really has me excited to read more from these authors. If you’re a fan of this genre, I think you’ll enjoy this one.

Whoa, what a wild ride this was! This was my first book by these authors. I know, I know clearly, I’ve been missing out! So, I cannot really compare to their previous bestsellers. But, their writing is fantastic! I spent the entire book so confused. I had no idea what was happening. I went back and forth on who was bad and who was good through the entire book! So, well done for keeping me in the dark, which I have to say is pretty rare these days in my reading!

Shay is lonely, eager for some friendships and relationships. She’s obsessed with statistics, which was fascinating because of how much was included throughout the book. In a bizarre turn of events, she witnesses a woman jump in front of a subway train, and goes to her memorial service, where she meets the dead woman’s friends. Then, things start to get really odd from there. The only thing I struggled with was how many characters and how many POV there were. I could not keep these people straight and had to go back to see who was the narrator of this chapter often. But, the book was a definite dark and twisty page turner and so entertaining! I will be making my way through the author’s backlog after this for sure.

I read and really enjoyed The Wife Between Us, which had a twist I really didn’t see coming. I was kind of expecting the same in You Are Not Alone.

The book started out with a tragic and intriguing opening, as main character Shay is standing on a New York City subway platform when she sees a young woman jump in front of an oncoming train. Shay, shocked and traumatized, picks up a necklace at the scene.

I liked Shay as a character. She’s a person who understands the world through numbers and statistics. She’s a little socially awkward. After the incident, she leaves flowers at the dead woman’s apartment. There she sees a flyer for the memorial service, which she attends. There she meets two sisters who were friends of the victim, Cassandra and Jane. They start to take Shay under their wing and help her sort her life out.

This all sounds nice, like the reassuring interpretation of “You Are Not Alone.” But Cassandra and Jane are creepy. They have a very close-knit group of friends who all wear GPS tracking necklaces because of the “dangerous work they do.” Through Shay’s picking up the necklace (which belonged to the victim) she’s now on their radar. Literally. And then “You Are Not Alone” takes a whole new meaning. Eeep!

For me, the best part of the book was trying to figure out what Cassandra and Jane are up to. But once I did, it a) didn’t make all that much sense and b) made less and less sense the more I thought about it. I felt the story did have some interesting elements (like Shay and the fact that in 2020, we are all sort of under surveillance) but all the what and the why didn’t really do it for me.

Even though I didn't like this as much as The Wife Between Us, I remain a fan of this writing duo and look forward to checking out whatever mayhem they come up with next!

Woah my god. A one day read. And I have a toddler. Need I say more?!? I am a huge Hendricks and Pekkanen fan and I was blown out of the water!!! Well done ladies!! Keep up the excellent work!!!

What a ridiculously captivating and wild novel. I am left breathless and wanting more. This will be the book I recommend to EVER when they say ask.

Thank you Sarah and Greer for writing this twisted masterpiece and St. Martin's Press and Netglley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. I could not love this book more.

This is the third book I have read from these ladies and I was wondering if it was going to be as good as the others. Yep still a mind blowing crazy twisted ride. I love every second of this story. The twists and turns make my emotions go all over the place. I was completely hooked from the very beginning and couldn't physically put this book down. The writing is dark and hauting but complete perfection. The story is unique and one I won't be able to forget for a long time. I can't wait to read their next book.

I was so excited to dive into 'You Are Not Alone' because I LOVED this duo's previous books and recommend them to everyone! This book started off on a very strong note for me. This authors begin the book with an attention-grabbing scene, that immediately made me want to keep reading. Unfortunately, for me the rest of the story just did not keep up the expectation and pace of the opening scenes.

I found the main protagonist Shay to be very likable, but the rest of the characters just fell flat for me. I loved Shay's obsession with numbers and order and I certainly respected the characters' motivations; however, they just did not have any kind of real-world feel for me and I did not feel much empathy toward them. (This review will be vague because this book is filled with spoilers and is best read without any expectations or knowledge of the plot.)

The pace of the book felt a little tedious at times, but because I am such a fan of the authors, readers who love psychological thrillers should definitely give this one a try. Lots of readers loved this one, but the characters and the conclusion just felt unsatisfying to me. The authors write brilliantly together, but this one was not a favorite of mine.

Overall, I cannot wait for the authors next book because I am sure it will be just as clever and engrossing as their earlier thrillers!

Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen have mastered the Creepy Girl book genre with their third novel, You Are Not Alone. Each chapter alternates viewpoints allowing the reader to know the fascinating characters well. Shay is a young woman living in New York and she is struggling. She has recently been laid off from her job and her best friend is busy with her baby. Shay has a major crush on her male roommate but he has a serious girlfriend. When Shay witnesses a woman end her life by jumping onto the subway tracks her life spins out of control. Luckily she meets glamorous sisters Cassandra and Jane and they become fast friends with Shay. The assistance and gifts they give Shay are remarkable. The sisters are too good to be true and Shay feels lucky to have been taken under their wings. Her life has turned around. Is Shay blessed to have met Cassandra and Jane or are they too good to be true? The authors constantly reek havoc with their reader's emotions in the most delightful way. The crisp writing style and fascinating plot are what make You Are Not Alone one of the most enjoyable reads of the year.

I fell in love with this author duo when I read The Wife Between Us. It absolutely blew my mind with its various twists and turns that I did not see coming. So when I had an opportunity to read their latest novel, You Are Not Alone, I jumped at the chance.

Plot: Woman witnesses another woman jump to her death in front of a subway train. She then proceeds to obsess over the suicide and why the deceased woman made the decision to jump. Along the way she befriends some folks that knew the dead girl and a bunch of weird events ensue.

This book was an extremely quick read, the writing definitely lending itself to a page turner. However, that's kind of where the enjoyment ended for me. The "believability factor" for this story was really low. I could not imagine a person making such absurdly stupid decisions in real life so had a hard time believing the actions of both the main character and the various ancillary characters. I also didn't care for the multiple backstories of the ancillary characters; I didn't think they contributed much to the primary story line. And I had a really hard time differentiating between many of the ancillary characters. With the exception of a couple of them, they all kind of ran together for me.

All of that being said, it wasn't an awful book. It just wasn't my favorite, especially given the high standards I've set for this author duo given their previous works.
