possibly want with a simple girl like Shay?
It was a great book with some great twists that I definitely did not see coming. Thank you Netgalley for the ARC!
4.5 stars
Great thriller which had my mind working hard to figure out where the story was going, who was "good" and who was part of the overall twisted plan. It's hard to say much about the book without giving anything away, but this was a page-turner for me and I really enjoyed the story.
You are Not Alone will have you looking over your shoulder, staring suspiciously at people that try and befriend you .
Shay witnesses a suicide on the subway. She cant get past it , delves into the victims life.
Let the games begin.
THe Moore sisters are the ones befriending Shay. If you think its too good to be true , it usually is. Shay does not have a suspicious bone in her body. I shake my head.
That's all I will reveal. You have to read this one for yourself.
The pages fly by, no matter how much I told Shay dont be stupid, she did not listen.
Twists and turns will keep the light on for one more page, make that a chapter.
Thanks to NetGalley and St Martins Press for this wild read. It will stay with me for quite awhile.
Shai Miller lives in NY but her life is not ideal, she lives with a roommate she has an unreciprocated crush on and her career is a series of unstable, temp jobs.
All changes when she witnesses the suicided of a young woman in the subway, her name was Amanda. Shai becomes interested in knowing Amanda's background and starts learning about her life and friends.
This is where she becomes involved with Amanda's friends and her life changes for the better, or worse? I found the first half of the book difficult to get into because there were many characters and took me a bit to become familiar with each of them and not get them confused.
The second half of the book is when the plot picked up for me and was more entertaining. I enjoyed the book but did not love it, I've read the authors' previous novels and found them more engaging. Still, I recommend it to readers of thrillers and mysteries.

A 3+ rating from this reviewer.
Having enjoyed this duo’s work in the past, I looked forward to this, their newest, but unfortunately, I found it lacking a 4 or 5 star rating. It was still pretty good, creative for sure, and not run-of-the-mill.
This starts off convoluted, too many characters, all with back-stories of course, and various time frames. The jumping around seemed choppy and each time I picked it up, I had to go back a few chapters to refresh my memory of the character-of-the-chapter’s background. It didn’t flow easily. Also, none of the characters were likable except for the protagonist Shay, and her male roommate. Shay is obsessed with data, statistics to be exact, and each chapter is precluded with a statement of fact from her Data Journal. which I found interesting. She is going through a rough spot, unemployed and lonely. She is kind, empathetic and likable, and was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Shay witnesses what appears to be a suicide on a subway and it profoundly affects her. She is curious about the young woman. Curious enough to attend her memorial and learn more about the deceased, Amanda. As a result the decedent’s close group of female friends are curious about Shay as well. Little does Shay know about what they have in store for her.
The second half was much better than the first and ended up being suspenseful once Shay (and us readers) realizes what is happening and how she has been manipulated. The last few chapters flew by.
I encourage any potential readers to please make up your own mind. You may find it fascinating and worth the read, which it was, if you don’t mind concentrating from the beginning on who is who, and why they are where they are. This is doled out in small segments to the reader throughout the novel. All opinions are my own.
Release date 3/3/20
My thanks to all for the ARC

3.5 stars. I didn’t love this one. I loved the wife between us and enjoyed the anonymous girl but I was hoping for a bigger twist with this one! I felt like the book was almost too straightforward. Yes there was a twist I didn’t guess but it didn’t really matter all that much to the plot. I was very interested at the beginning but started to slowly become less invested and ultimately didn’t enjoy it as much as I hoped I would.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was such a FUN thriller, as opposed to some that can be very gruesome and depressing. This was not that. It had a lot of twists and I was left guessing until the very end at how everything would turn out. I’m also a sucker for books told from alternating perspectives, which this book had a lot of.
I’ve seen criticism of this book about the “boring” stats that start each chapter, and I could not disagree more. While I am a #mathnerd and so love statistics, I thought it was a fun little addition to each chapter, and helped build the identity of the main character. Also, for those griping, they were barely more than a paragraph long!
#favauthors Having read all of this author duo’s books, I do believe this one just became my favorite! And I liked all three. Must read for female thriller fans. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 / 5
I was so excited to read this book after An Anonymous Girl,, which was my favorite book of 2019, I just knew I would LOVE this one too! It took me a little while to figure out where the story was going, but once it got going, it was just as much of a page turner as the last. This is a fast and easy read. It has some dark themes such as suicide and rape, but the book doesn’t dig too deep into those parts of the story, at least for me it was ok. If you love thrillers, you’ll enjoy this one!
Thank you so much to Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for this ARC, I can’t wait to read their next title!
This book was brillant! Shay witnesses a suicide and it's downhill from there! I love the Author's writing style in this book! The ending was fantastic! I can't wait to see what is next from the Authors!
You are not alone is the first book I’ve read from writing duo Greer and Pekkanen and wow, I absolutely loved it! Shay Miller is a lonely female in NYC who’s a bit down on her luck. She witnesses a woman committing suicide in a subway station and subsequently finds herself being drawn into the woman’s life. I couldn’t put this book down. It was fast paced and full of twists and turns. There was one point when I felt that some aspects were becoming a bit unbelievable but then the major twist completely threw me, I didn’t see it coming at all, and I felt that once that happened a lot of things fell into place. The book is told from multiple perspectives and while I really enjoyed this, my only criticism is that I felt there was perhaps too many secondary characters, as a couple of times I had to go back to check who was who. I was worried with only a few pages to go that I was going to be left with unanswered questions but that wasn’t the case and I really enjoyed how the loose ends all wrapped up. A fast paced, twisty, edge of your seat thriller that I would definitely recommend.
3.5/5 stars
This is the very first ARC that I’ve read and reviewed, and I requested it purely on the basis that I loved the first two books by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. I actually only skimmed the description as I was confident that I would enjoy the book either way.
And it turns out that I did enjoy this story. It was a fast and thrilling ride. However, compared to their first two books, especially The Wife Between Us, this one fell a little short for me. Unlike their earlier books, I found the twists in You Are Not Alone to be less shocking, though perhaps I was just expecting them so was more prepared. This time around, I missed the sensation of being metaphorically punched in the solar plexus when certain plot twists evolved.
I also found at first that it was difficult to distinguish some of the side characters. I love multiple POV narratives, and these two do it well, but I did find in the beginning that I mixed up a couple of the characters.
All in all, I would recommend this book to customers, though I would suggest they read this one first before the earlier two.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in return for a fair and honest review.
Wow! Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanan did it again! My mind is still reeling from all the data that Shay provides. The buildup and the twists and turns kept me guessing until the end when shock took over. This is another one that's hard to review for fear of giving anything away. If you've read anything else by this duo then you know how talented they are! If you haven't read anything yet, do yourself a favor and grab this one March 3, 2020!!
Whenever Greer and Sarah come out with another book, I put off reading it for weeks. I know once I start it'd going to be over the same day and I'm going to have to wait until the next one. This one was no exception. I loved the plot of this book and the characters were really exciting. As with their other books, there is plenty of suspense and mystery as the details slowly weave their way into the story. Great job ladies!
I've recieved ARCs of all three of Hendricks' and Pekkanen's books, and I have to say that although I did think this book was entertaining at times, "You Are Not Alone" is my least favorite of the three. The ending felt a bit rushed, and I was actually let down / disappointed by the few big twists towards the end. I thought the Moore sisters' plan was much more insidious, but really it wasn't anything too crazy, as I've come to expect from them after reading "An Anonymous Girl" and "The Wife Between Us." I also thought the mystery of the Moore sisters, what they really were a part of, and how they contributed to Amanda's suicide was stretched too long. I grew tired of waiting for answers and found my attention wavering.
The first 2/3 of You Are Not Alone was fairly slow for me. However, the last third really picked up and I enjoyed the ending and how everything tied together. Shay, the main character was really relatable and the chapters from her POV were my favorite. The statistics at the beginning of each chapter was clever. I was slightly confused between the side characters and their backstories. I'm not sure if the characters all felt the same, or maybe I didn't get enough of each character's POV to tell them apart. The explanation of why the Moore sisters are interested in Shay took too long to be revealed. If I knew a bit more before, or if there was another larger plot point that happened earlier on I would have been more taken with the story. This was my first book from Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. Although this wasn't a hit for me the writing was great and will pick up another by them.
I’m not going to give a summary or description of the book’s plot, as it’s best to just dig right in! I don’t want to ruin anything. If you loved these two author’s first two books, I’m sure this will be another perfect read.
I will say that I really, really enjoyed this book and read it in almost one sitting - and all in one day, which is hard to do with two little ones 🤣. And I stayed up WAY past my bedtime. Highly recommend! Another top contender for my favorite books of 2020!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher, St. Martin’s Press, for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Shay Miller is floundering. Facing temp jobs, social isolation, and unrequited love with her roommate, Shay’s life goes from bad to worse when she witnesses a suicide on the subway. Shay becomes obsessed with learning about the dead woman’s life and in the process befriends the Moore sisters. Jane and Cassandra Moore also take an interest in Shay... but it quickly becomes clear to the reader that their intentions are not pure. Twists and turns ensue in this fast-paced thriller.
.
If you’re looking for a quick thriller, I definitely recommend this one. I have not read any of the authors’ previous work, but from what I have heard you can expect another twisty thriller from this duo. I really enjoyed the premise of this one and was shocked by the level of manipulation the Moore sisters and their friends displayed. My only major critique is that I felt this story was told from too many perspectives; it was difficult to follow at times and I had to work extra hard to keep everyone’s storylines straight. I wasn’t totally blown away by the twist at the end, but I did enjoy it. All in all, those of you in need of a thriller should check this out! Thank you @stmartinspress and @netgalley for my advanced reader’s copy. You Are Not Alone is a current @bookofthemonth pick and will hit shelves on 3/3/20.
There’s also a stat I’ve thought about a lot lately: that the average person will walk past sixteen killers in the person’s lifetime.
I watch as a woman moves down the subway aisle.
I keep staring at her as she passes my seat. I wonder if she will walk past fifteen others during her lifetime.
Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Publishing Group for sending me an ARC of You Are Not Alone in exchange for an honest review.
Shay Miller is not in a great place in her life. She’s 31, newly downsized, and has an unrequited crush on her roommate, Sean. After witnessing a woman kill herself by jumping in front of a subway train, Shay begins having panic attacks, and her life spirals further downward, until she meets Cassandra and Jane. Successful and confident sisters, they knew the suicide victim, and they soon bring Shay into their circle of friends. Shay sees Cassandra and Jane as friends when she needs them the most. The sisters see Shay as ... an opportunity.
Although some chapters are told from the point of view of other characters, the majority are from Shay’s first-person perspective, each of which begins with a statistical nugget that will prove to be relevant. Fortunately, Shay is an interesting, rather original character. Her loneliness is palpable and moving, and it makes her choices much more believable.
You Are Not Alone is well-written and well-plotted. While many of the techniques are the same—flashbacks, first-person chapters from alternating perspectives, small bits of information passed along at strategic points—this book is something of a departure from The Wife Between Us and An Anonymous Girl. This book isn’t particularly ambiguous about which characters you should believe. Instead, the mystery lies in why events are occurring, and whether it will be to late to stop them. Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen have written another satisfying thriller. Highly recommended.
I love the team of Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekanen. Their stories are always fast paced, engrossing, and so hard to put down!
You Are Not Alone was not a disappointment. It’s the story of a group of friends, who come together to take care of Shay, after she sees something shocking. They’re there to help her. Right?
Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martins Press for the ARC of this book!
You Are Not Alone did not disappoint this fan of the Hendricks/Pekkanen writing duo. From the beginning of the novel, when the Shay Miller witnesses a graphic, violent suicide-we are on a wild ride with her. Captivated by the death of this stranger, Shay begins to connect with the victim's friend group. They are a super close group of beautiful and successful women and lonely, shaken Shay hopes to find solace in their blooming friendship. That is until she realizes that this may be a fremeny situation that could cost her life! Unreliable narrators abound and there are so many twists, turns and dark family secrets that kept me guessing until almost the very end. Set in contemporary NYC-it was also a fun glimpse into a fast paced city life, as well as a great thriller! I will be highly recommending it to my customers.
