A charismatic, vindictive pack of wolves, I mean women try to take justice in their own hands when things turn sour in their socialite group.
Without giving too much away, these women prey on Shay, a girl who’s life has pretty much recently gone to hell, not realizing that Shay’s niche is statistics, which makes her a pretty damn good problem solver.
This story is dark, twisted and kind of a cat and mouse game between these women. Is Shay as mentally unstable as the pack makes her out to be or are these women just going above and beyond to keep a secret? If you loved Anonymous Girl and The Wife Between Us, you will love this. Promise! 4 💫
Thank you @netgalley for my free ARC for my honest review. I highly recommend this one!
Have you ever read a book that kept you so captivated and on the edge of your seat that you just had to go share it with everyone you know just so you could talk about it with someone else? Well, “You Are Not Alone” is that next book for you.
Shay Miller is on her way to a job interview in New York City when she watches a stranger jump in front of an oncoming subway train. Fascinated and a little obsessed with statistics, Shay begins tracing the steps of the stranger, Amanda, to try and make sense of what she saw happen. What she finds instead is an alarming number of similarities between the lifestyle that she lives, and the one Amanda was living, and it only sends her head further spinning.
When she shows up at Amanda’s funeral service she is approached by Cassandra and Jane Moore, friends of Amanda. They immediately welcome Shay into their lives, and Shay is completely intrigued and more than captivated by them. The Moore sisters are everything Shay never has been. They’re beautiful in an intimidating way and Shay finds herself drawn to every aspect of who they are. This works out conveniently for the Moore sisters because they need Shay closer than ever and she practically runs into the palms of their hands.
Unfortunately, I can’t say anything more without giving away all of the best twisty parts of the plot. Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen are masters at creating those stories that leave you guessing until the very last sentence of a book, and “You Are Not Alone” is no exception. Don’t just take my word for it, read this one yourself. You won’t be disappointed.

Loneliness .... the universal emotion we all detest and avoid at all cost .... it's presence can lead to an all consuming feeling of dread and depression. We all seek to be befriended and beloved. This is the set-up for this riveting page-turner psychological thriller. Shay Miller is a rather nondescript , almost invisible 30 something woman doing "temp work" in lieu of a full time gig in data analysis. ... all the while plagued by a feeling of loneliness. Her world has always been guided and influenced by statistical occurrences that she dutifully records in her "Data Book" - a sort of diary that guides her thinking process and outlook on life. Her mundane life comes to a screeching halt when she observes an apparent suicide in the subway. A young woman wearing a green polka-dot dress inexplicably jumps to her death in front of the subway train. Shay is inexorably drawn into learning more about the "victim" Amanda..... even attending her memorial service. Suddenly she finds herself entwined in the lives of Amanda's friends. ... a coven of 6 women , lead by the sisters, Cassandra and Jane Moore. Her fortune in life is miraculously altered. New job opportunities accompany improvements in housing arrangements and even a makeover involving face, body and dress. Suddenly she is mistaken for Amanda in appearance.
Hendricks and Pekkanen weave a masterful and twisted narrative that jerks back and forth in time between Shay and the various members of the group - including glimpses into their individual pasts that provide insights to their subsequent behavior and actions. Shay is highly inquisitive and overly analytical . Her curiosity and determination is evidenced in her unrelenting attempt to make sense out of the seemingly disparate facts that are placing her in a dangerous situation.. She continues to probe into the life of Amanda.
This convoluted and unpredictable plot is brimming with misdirection, deceit and faulty perceptions that propel the action forward.. Shay starts to piece together the multitude of convenient and coincidental events that actually appear orchestrated ... but, by who and why? Is she being set-up? What is the binding thread in the formation of this group of women? Is the purpose friendship ... love ...or perhaps, something more nefarious.
Thanks to NetGalley and St. Matin's Press for providing an electronic Proof of this gem in exchange for an honest review. Hopefully there will be many more outings for Hendricks and Pekkanen duo!!

Wow! This was my first read from Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen, and I have to say, it won't be my last. I was pulled into the book almost immediately and it didn't disappoint. I felt like I was on the edge of my seat and I spent several late nights reading when I should have gone to sleep. Like all good books, it leads where you do not expect it and it leaves you wanting more. Would definitely recommend!
Cassandra and Jane are stunning, charming, smart and wickedly manipulative of anyone who gets in their way. Their business is PR (naturally) but their side jam is revenge - and justice, particularly for women.
Shay was in the wrong place at the wrong time. And she was too inquisitive, too smart. She saw Amanda jump in front of the subway and it haunted her. Who wouldn't want to find out about this woman, especially when your own life is sort of dull? A mystery is a great way to take your mind off your own life's limitations. But as smart as she is, she still falls prey to the warm glow of beautiful friends.
When the 3 women cross paths, their fates are forever changed.
These 2 authors are amazing. I have read their other work as co-authors and absolutely loved it. But this is just a tremendous achievement. I love how they don't put women into categories. They are full formed characters - some bad, some good, most in-between. No man comes in to save the day, nor are men the only ones who can be villains.
A fast-paced page-turner which is the best kind of thriller. Loved every page! Of all the books I have had a chance to read through Netgalley, this is one of the best and one I totally jumped at when it was available.
Obsession, greed, and revenge. What could go wrong? The latest book from Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen is a true psychological thriller. Shay Miller is a girl who's used to blending in to the background. She's obsessed with statistics and keeps a journal with her at all times to record observations and bits of everyday research. She's plodding along and her life is not quite where she'd like it to be, when she suddenly witnesses a horrible accident that changes the course of her life. She's led to two glamours and successful sisters, Cassandra and Jane, and things change pretty dramatically.
That's all I'm going to leave you with. The blurbs for this one are intentionally vague- for good reason! Go in with as little knowledge as possible and I promise you'll be sucked right in. I never quite knew who to trust and which way things were going to go- I loved the turns this took and was pulling for our lead, Shay. This is up there with my other favorite thrillers- love this dynamic writing duo!
Not my favorite by these authors, but definitely worth reading! I have to admit it took me a while to become absorbed in this one. I am used to their use of alternating narrators, but in the beginning i felt so overwhelmed trying to keep track of all the women from chapter to chapter! I'm glad I stuck it out because once I was finally hooked there was no turning back. I don't want to say anything about the plot because I feel like this one should be gone into blind :)
**THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SOME SPOILERS**
The story is told in alternating points of view which was a little confusing at first as you were introduced to characters and trying to keep them straight. Once you did, it moved the story line forward with different perspectives which added more to the plot line. Each woman seems to have a secret and they seem to bind the five women together as 'friends'.
I struggled with Shay's character. Her yearning to fit in seemed juvenile for someone in their early 30's. She overlooked so many things that should have a little disconcerting about Cassandra and Jane. There aren't that many coincidences, she needs to find a new place to live, and they just happen to have a friend that needs someone to house sit for them, they're at the subway stop with an umbrella at the exact time she has a breakdown in the rain.
Overall the story grabbed my attention, kept me interested and while I knew the sisters were not who they portrayed, the twist in the last few chapters, was a surprise. it was a good read and worth picking up, I'm not sure I'd rearranged my TBR pile for it though.
I received this ARC of You Are Not Alone by Greer Hendricks, Sarah Pekkanen from Netgalley in return for my honest opinion. Shay’s life is going nowhere when she sees a woman throw herself in front of a subway train in NYC.As a result, Shay becomes embroiled in some new relationships, and opportunities. But all is not what it seems. This was a page turner from the first chapter right to the end with twists and turns I didn’t expect. Well worth reading. .
The things I didn’t like— The main character is supposed to be very smart but I find it odd that she didn’t have a clue or pick up on obvious things throughout. As soon as she’d start to smarten up, she’d toss the thought away. A little too convenient. I also had a hard time keeping up with the characters because there were so many. It was hard to keep the minor ones straight.
It did keep me interested throughout. I had to know how it all played out. The why, the who, the how, the what. I did enjoy this one more than The Wife Between Us. Probably because I didn’t quite figure it out. TWBU I had pegged early on, but this one had me guessing some. I wouldn’t say it’s twisty or things pop out at you, no big reveal but it felt almost like a race to the finish line. I liked it. I’ll say it was a solid read.
I also thought there was going to something more with the main character. I expected more of a twist there
If you’ve never read a Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen, you are missing out. Much like their other books, this one was just as good. From the very first few pages, I was captivated. The twists and turns in the plot are plentiful and it definitely keeps you on your toes. Unfortunately, there is very little I can talk about without ruining a piece of the book. There are land mines of deception in this book. Let me just say Shay Miller witnesses a girl commit suicide on a NY subway and her life spirals out of control.

This book was fast paced, intriguing, and full of so much mystery, it was hard to put down. If you’re new to these authors, this is a great book to start with. The only reason I am giving the book 4 stars is because the ending felt too rushed. I was 97% of the way through the book and didn’t think there was any way it could wrap everything up that quickly, but it did. But the ending, let me say I did not see it coming! Overall, this is a page turner-and you have to read it!
You Are Not Alone is the third book I’ve read by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. It focuses on a woman named Shay living in New York City who witnessed a suicide in the subway. Shay quickly becomes entangled with a group of women who knew the deceased woman, and seem to offer her the friendships she’s been yearning for during a lonely period in her life.
You Are Not Alone had an interesting plot, and there were times when I couldn’t put it down because I needed to know what happened next. I had some difficulty keeping all of the characters straight in my mind, and some parts of the book felt unnecessary or repetitive which slowed down the pacing some for me. I really enjoyed the other two books by this duo, so I’m sure my expectations were rather high going into this book. I look forward to seeing what they come up with next!
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
You Are Not Alone opens on Shay, a twenty-something statistician as she witnesses a woman jump in front of a train on the subway. Unable to shake the incident, Shay becomes obsessed with the woman who she learns to be a young nurse named Amanda. When she attends Amanda’s memorial, she meets the elusive Moore sisters. Shay thinks she’s won the lottery when they want her to join their circle of friends, but something is not right with the Moore sisters, and before Shay knows it, she’s in danger.
Told in alternating perspectives between Shay, the Moore sisters, Amanda, and others, You Are Not Alone asks how well you can really know anyone. It’s told a bit like a cat and mouse story between the Moore sisters and Shay, with other character’s narratives sprinkled in, making you wonder how it all fits together. I felt like the main character Shay was a bit naive to trust the sisters so implicitly, but that could have just been because I was privy to the sisters' deceptions from their perspectives.
I found You Are Not Alone to be slower than Sarah Pekkanen and Greer Hendricks’ previous novels, The Wife Between Us and An Anonymous Girl, but possibly more psychological and anxiety-inducing. You know the Moore sisters are up to no good, but you don’t know their motives or endgame. I highly recommend You Are Not Alone to fans of psychological thrillers.
When something seems to be too good to true, it usually is. However, after witnessing a huge tragedy, Shay is willing to lean on anyone she can who can help her make it through. When she "accidentally" meets the Moore sisters she's immediately drawn to them and their kindness towards her. It seems nothing short of amazing that anytime she needs something or something happens in her life they are there to help with it all. They and their friends quickly become part of Shay's life, but are they really there to help or do they have an ulterior motive? I flew through this one and did not want to put it down!
I just finished reading "You Are Not Alone" by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen
This was a fairly quick read, a thriller
It was an average book for me, and one that did not stand out amongst the great deal of really outstanding books in this venue that I have read over the past year. I found that I quickly lost interest, and found the characters hard to get attached too. There were really too many main characters, which made the storyline a bit confusing as it bounced around from the past to the present.
I am sure many readers will enjoy it however.
Thanks to NetGalley, the authors and St. Martin's Press. for my early copy, in exchange for my opinions
I am a fan of these authors and was therefore very excited to receive an advanced reading copy of their latest book, "You are Not Alone." Thank you St. Martin's Press!!!
Does anyone else find themselves singing "You are not alone, I am here with you" by Michael Jackson while looking at the cover of this book ? Anyone ?
Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen have a talent for leaving the reader in the dark while throwing out great twists along the way. Hats off to another fast paced and engaging read!
This book starts off with a bang when a woman commits suicide right in front of our main character Shay. Shay becomes a bit obsessed with finding out more about this woman who she wished she could have helped.
Shay wants friends, she wants to feel accepted and she doesn't want to feel alone anymore.......
If you are a fan of these authors as well as psychological thrillers, I highly recommend! I cannot wait for the next book to see what they come up with next!
Another fast-paced and entertaining thriller from Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen
In You Are Not Alone we meet Shay, a young New Yorker who witnesses a suicide in a subway station. After she befriends the victim’s charismatic friends, things begin to get complicated for Shay. It is hard to know who to trust in this novel, and no one seems to be who they say they are.
If you have enjoyed the previous novels by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen, this one will not disappoint. Definitely add this one to your spring reading list.
This kept me entertained enough to finish it but the main character was so unlikeable to me. The revelations towards the end were unique and did surprise me, which is the only reason I gave it 3 stars instead of 2. I think a lot of the middle of the book was repetitive.
This book moved a bit slowly for me, but it did keep me interested and kept me guessing and wanting to know where it would all end up. The plot line required a lot of background and build up. I liked the twist that came at the end and it was unexpected.
The premise of this book sounded great. I really liked Shay. She’s just trying to live her life the best she can. It all goes awry when it appears that Shay witnessed a suicide on the tracks of the NYC subway. The book is very slow for me. The storyline just didn’t work for me. The book has a lot of five star reviews so I think this book just didn’t call to me. I’ve read other books by these authors and enjoyed reading them. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley.
