This one come in at 4 stars – it easily could have been a 5 star rating because the author had the story and had so much going for it, but unfortunately, she based the entire premise on “assumptions” when the main character should not have used “assumptions” since she was trained as a police investigator. Kate should have used her training instead of concocting up every reason for why things happened when she didn’t know anything and had no proof.
Other than that major flaw, this story was pretty good, I liked the way the author switched between the characters and telling their side of what they believed. The first chapter pulled me in and the ending was just great, lots of twists and turns and possibilities. I would recommend with the caveat of overlooking the lack of police procedural training.
I was allowed an ARC from St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for my honest unbiased review. This one comes in with 4 stars.
Kate and her three closest friends have planned a once-in-a-lifetime holiday: vacationing at an opulent villa in France with their husbands and children. On the day they arrive, Kate discovers a text on her husband’s phone which reveals that he is having an affair with one of the friends who is staying at the villa. But who IS it? Kate views everyone and every interaction with fresh eyes and suspicion.
As the vacation week unfolds, we learn that all of the friends, husbands and children are harboring secrets. The author doles out clues in an enticing way that kept me wanting to read just one more chapter.
The drama builds and explodes with a shocking incident. Can Kate’s bonds with her friends survive this crisis?
I enjoyed the descriptions of the lazy, sunny Mediterranean days, oppressive nights & the lush food and drinks. Schedule time for The Vacation soon, it’s a terrific treat.
I’ve never really cared one way or another as far as group vacations go. I could take them or leave them. After this book, I don’t think I’ll be taking a vacay any time soon. This was a super juicy read with the element of the affair and the friendship mixed in. This was all about secret and lies!
How well do you know your best friends? Kate, Jennifer, Izzy and Rowan are approaching forty now but they have been friends since college. At one time they met for a weekend away once each year, but it has been five years since they were all together. Now they are back together for a week at a French villa along with children and spouses. As Kate’s husband relaxes by the pool, she sees a message on his phone from CoralGirl warning that they will have to be careful when they meet in France. Sean hasn’t been himself lately and now Kate knows why. He has obviously been having an affair with one of her friends, but which one? She keeps her discovery to herself as she observes the interactions between her friends and Sean, trying to discover CoralGirl’s identity. Finally confronting Sean, he denies an affair but refuses to explain the messages.
As Kate deals with her suspicions, T.M. Logan explores the relationships and problems in each of the families. From rebellious teens to alcohol abuse and harassment, the tensions mount until one of the four friends is found dead. As a crime analyst for the police, Kate must use all of her skills to discover a killer and the secrets that are being kept from her. Logan keeps the story moving at a steady pace as you get to know each character. Just as you begin to suspect the identity of CoralGirl, hints are offered that point in another direction. It is a story that is guaranteed to hook you from the very beginning and does not let go until the final pages. I would like to thank NetGalley and St. Martin Press for making this book available for my review.
TM Logan did it again! This fast paced, adrenaline filled book kept me up at night! Enjoyed every last second of this book! Thank you for the book in exchange for an honest review! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Star rating from me!
Nothing like going on a vacation with friends to find out how compatible you really are. A week of everyone’s spouses and kids can be a little too much, especially with different parenting styles and marital secrets. Add on top of all that, the idea of discovering your husband may just be having an affair with one of the other women. That’s the situation that Kate finds herself in. As a celebration of the wives, old school chums, all turning 40, they gather at a lovely villa in southern France.
I can’t say I really liked any of the characters. Their faults seemed to outweigh their good qualities. Not folks I would want to vacation with!
Everyone has secrets, even the teenagers. The book moves briskly, with short chapters. And I desperately wanted to know how it would play out. Who exactly was Sean having an affair with? I was as bad as Kate, bouncing from one woman to the next. I thought I had sussed out what the teenagers’ secret was, but I had it only partially right
This would be a good beach read. No in depth characters to analyze, but a fun plot. And the ending is not believable, but it was still fun.
My thanks to netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for an advance copy of this book.
The Vacation is about four women, (Kate, Izzy, Jennifer, and Rowan) who were best friends growing up. Their families all take a group vacation together to a Villa in France. While there, Kate starts to pick up on her Husband acting strange and thinks he might be having an affair. Rowan's husband also thinks that she is hiding something or having an affair. The story mostly follows Kate and the clues she is finding while trying to figure out what is going on with her husband. There are a few side stories about their kids as well. Jennifer has two teenage boys, Kate has a teenage girl and a preteen son, and Rowan has a young girl. This story goes in so many directions it is a little hard to keep up. I have to say, this story really kept my interest and I wasn't able to guess where the mystery was going, like I usually can in other books. The author really thought out and explained the characters and situations in depth. I would give this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. It was really well written and interesting. I would recommend to anyone who likes a good story with some mystery appeal.
Wow! I absolutely loved this book. It keeps you guessing from the beginning and was not expecting that ending at all. I definitely recommend this book!
Thank you St. Martin's Press and for giving me the chance to read this ARC for my honest review!
Four close friends are on vacation with their spouses and children. Kate, through texts she read on her husband’s cellphone, realises he is having an affair and the other woman must be one of the friends on the special vacation. Kate is determined to use the vacation to find out the identity of the other woman. A riveting thriller.

Kate and her three best college friends have kept in touch and vacationed together for years. Their bonds are strong, so they decide to kick it up a notch and invite the husbands and kids to the next holiday, which will be held in the beautiful vineyard country of southern France. The villa is outstanding, the opulence, the rooms, the views are all breathtaking. So why does Kate immediately think the absolute worst when she inadvertently sees a text on her husband’s phone and basically ruins the vacation for herself and ultimately, others?
Kate can’t imagine any other excuse for the words she read and for her husband’s recent behavior. It’s obviously one of her close friends, and Kate is determined to confront them during their week together.
I’m no psychologist but I’m confident that Kate has Paranoid Personality Disorder. Her behavior goes beyond the extreme, searching her friends’ rooms, hiding phones, watching through the shrubbery, and constant eavesdropping. Her friends all seem to have some sort of personality flaw, so stirring these unstable personas into the mix of suspicion really gets the pot boiling. The plot gets a little crowded for me at times, but the basic premise and the constant action kept me reading.

The Vacation was a quick and entertaining read. I had great fun guessing and suspecting everyone while all the twists and turns occurred. The ending surprised me and I found it plausible with an exception of one or two little details.
Overall, this was a satisfying mystery ready and I would recommend it to anyone that likes stories full of intrigue, secrets, and suspicion.
Thank you NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press and the author for providing me with an ARC copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
THE VACATION by T. M. Logan is a slow burn thriller involving three families over seven days during their vacation. The story is told mainly from the point of view of Kate who has many suspicions and I was curious enough to keep reading to find out what all the mystery was about. Throughout the book the point of view does switch to different characters which keeps it interesting. This is my first read from Logan and although I didn’t love it I’d be curious to read more from him.
Loved it! The fast pace of the book and the wording was well written! I have enjoyed all of T M Logan’s books!
This was a definite thriller, I only wish that I would have felt more connected to the characters. For what ever reason, I just was not able to connect with a single one of them.
Many thanks to Netgalley and St Martin's Press for this advanced readers copy. This book is due to release in July 2020.
The gist of The Vacation is this: We have several couples who all go on vaycay together, and one of the women discovers a secret her husband is harboring. It's a bit thriller--lite. What do you do when you think your husband is cheating, and if you're on vacation...do you confront him then and there? Here's where The Vacation takes off. It asks a lot of questions about how well you know your partner and your friends, and can you ever really know anyone?
I really loved this one and this was my second TM Logan book. Officially consider me a fan.
The Vacation comes out 7.21.2020.
5/5 Stars
WOW! This book was great! When 4 friends and their families go on holiday together in France to celebrate their 40th birthdays, only good things can happen, right? It turns out that each of the characters has something that makes them unlikeable and/or quite annoying. There is a lot going on here ... perhaps a bit too much. Despite the almost glaringly obvious character who is clearly "guilty" of something, the story takes some turns that you don't expect. And the end ... I couldn't read it fast enough to find out what was happening!
The one irritation I have is that the book was originally published as "The Holiday" in Europe and was changed to "The Vacation," I'm assuming to appeal to American audiences? Don't do that! We all know that Europeans use the term "holiday" and it's set in Europe ... so be true to the story. Don't make silly changes to "Americanize" it!
Thank you to T.M. Logan, St Martin's Press and NetGalley for an advance copy of this book! This review was also posted on Goodreads.
An amazing intense read
It was supposed to be a vacation with close friends, but how well do you know them? The greatest dilemma that Kate had to endure and resolve. Kept me turning pages. I am voluntarily reviewing an ARC of this book. Thank you, NetGalley and T.M. Logan for the chance.
The Vacation by T.M. Logan Reviewed on May 31, 2020 (2.5 stars I rounded up but it was difficult to do so)
This story seemed like it was going to be a great read ~ vacationing in France with not just your family but with your “Best” friends and their families.
However, this story was a S-L-O-W burn mystery as the four friends ~all are unlikeable characters!
Kate our protagonist discovers that her husband is having an affair …yep with one of her best friends who is vacationing with them. Hmmm does sound interesting …doesn’t it?
I am guessing that one need to be in just the right mood for this one.

Overall, I found this book to be just ok. The negative for me is that I found 90% of the characters to be uninteresting and completely unlikable so that I really couldn't connect with them and didn't care about how the story ended. On the positive side, it's a fast and easy read with an interesting setting. The story ended up not being predictable for me, which is rare with thrillers lately. As the title suggests, this book is a good choice for a vacation read.

It was supposed to be the perfect getaway: Kate and her three best friends, spending a week with their families in a luxurious villa in the south of France. Until Kate discovers an incriminating text on her husband’s cell phone... that reveals he’s having an affair... with one of her best friends. But which one?
This novel was a slow burn for me. While it was a good read, it felt a bit laborious at times. Possibly because the characters aren’t easy to like, and not in the good way. But still entertaining, nonetheless.
