Loved this one! This is a story about Kate who’s going on vacation with her family, her three best friends, and their families to France. Once there, she discovers messages between her husband and one of her best friends. She’s devastate to find out he’s cheating. Before she decides to confront him, she must find out which friend it is, and get proof so he doesn’t deny it. The story does have multiple characters with their own chapters. You find out that everyone has secrets. You find yourself trying to figure out who the best friend is that betrayed Kate as little clues are mentioned about each friend but you can’t figure it out. Then there’s a plot twist at the end that you didn’t see coming! This book would also be great for fans of Big Little Lies.
Wow!!! What a page turner! I couldn’t for the life of me figure any of it out and I loved every second of reading this book!
Kate is so relatable and I had so much empathy for her as she scrutinized every move her husband and friends make. I love the descriptions of her friendships and relationships with her husband and children.
I really thought I would be able to piece at least a couple of things together but I absolutely loved my jaw dropping time after time after time in this book.
I highly recommend The Vacation and I will be downloading T.M. Logan’s other books as well! Fabulously written and had me captivated from the first page until the very last.
And I loved the ending. Heartbreaking and satisfying all at the same time.
Huge thanks to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the ARC.
I got 13% of the way into the book but, right now, I needed something more positive and it wasn’t my cup of tea. I have no complaints with the book itself or the writer. Just wasn’t a great match.
Read this book in two days - definitely bingeworthy! I thought I had it figured out but turns out but did not figure out the ending. Would definitely recommend!
Thank you to NetGalley for this advanced copy.
I love T.M.'s way of totally drawing you into the story with so many twists and turns. You never know what to expect.
4 best friends and their families go on vacation together. There will be many lies, secrets, and a suspected affair. The adults aren't the only one with secrets. The teenagers have their own but this isn't brought into the story until later in the book.
None of the friends husband's were likeable to me. They should have been better men and stood up for themselves.
Totally readable and great for fans of Logan's previous books.

I would recommend this book to fans of domestic thrillers, which are my favorite. .
It is a complex storyline with well developed characters, all unfolding in a breathtaking setting.
While I didn’t find this as compelling as Lies and 29 Seconds, it was pretty good! I don’t usually like so many alternate perspectives, but I think it worked in this case. I’m not sure I’d consider this a “thriller” as much as a domestic mystery, though. I felt there were too many red herrings too. But I still think it was a win.
I’ve enjoyed several of Logan’s books and this one was a twisty thriller, albeit a lot slower paced than others. It took awhile for anything to really happen, and it was really not until the final 20% of the book that any real action took place. I enjoyed the way everything came together and I didn’t see the twists coming, I would recommend this book overall. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of The Vacation.
The premise is a familiar one, old friends gather together at a beautiful vacation home (South of France is the destination here) where secrets are revealed, old animosities flare up and a slow build to a catastrophic ending.
Kate and her friends have known each other since college, and this is the first time they've gotten together in the last five years. She's looking forward to some fun and sun until she reads a text on her husband's phone that indicates he is having an affair with one of her friends. But, who?
The first half of the book deals with Kate's suspicions, as she tries to remain calm and suss out which of her friends is the homewrecker.
At the same time, her friends are dealing with their own personal and professional issues, and Kate soon learns that everyone has something to hide, just not what she thought it might be.
The pacing is slow, and the cast of characters unlikable, including the children.
As I was reading, I wished an editor had shaved off 50 pages, or the author had decided the vacation was only a few days instead of a week.
The final third of the novel is full of revelations and stuff happens quickly, including a satisfying explanation to explain Kate's suspicions. Some of it is predictable, but not all.
I enjoyed The Vacation more than I did the author's previous book, and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a non-typical domestic thriller that doesn't involve a couple at each other's throats.
The Vacation is a clever, atmospheric thriller that had me guessing until the end. I liked the way the story unfolded and the pace of the book. I'd definitely read books by the author in the future!
I loved this thriller set in the South of France. That has a twisty fast paced placed and characters that you can get behind.
It’s a book that you won’t want to put down
Imagine going on a beautiful vacation at a gorgeous villa in the South of France with your three closest friends and their families. I'm in. Are you?
What everybody thought was going to a nice, relaxing vacation turns into jealousy, hidden relationships, and death.
If you like books told from multiple perspectives, this one is fantastic. It is told from the perspectives of several of the characters, including the children, which I thought made it very interesting. It did take me a second to get all the characters and their relationships straight in my head, but once I tied everybody together, it was much smoother reading.
This is the perfect beach read thriller for the summer. I've read both Lies and 29 Seconds by T.M. Logan, and I think this is by far my favorite of his books.
-I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to NetGalley, T.M. Logan, and St. Martin's Press for the opportunity to review.-
This guy! My third T.M. Logan book, and I've yet to be disappointed. A lot of books in this genre are a little over the top, and most are waaaay over the top, but Mr. Logan manages to keep his stories teetering on the edge of believability. Still entertaining, but you can see how maaaybe this could happen. His characters are nuanced and fully fleshed out. (The ones who matter, anyway.) In this story, Kate has an amazing vacation planned with her three best friends and their families. Their posh resort in the French countryside seems perfect, until Kate finds some messages on her husband Sean's phone. They're clearly from a woman, and she is telling Sean that they will talk more about their situation while they are in France. Kate's left with no option than to come to terms with the fact that her husband is cheating with one of her best friends. The twists and turns in this story made me want to pull my hair out--you will HAVE to keep reading to figure out what happens, and I can't imagine anyone figuring this one out. Can't wait to see what Logan has to offer next--I'll definitely be reading it!
This is the kind of book for which the plaintive plea of “just one more chapter” was created. I was hooked from the very first pages and stayed that way through pretty much the rest of the book. There was a portion late in the story that dragged a bit for me, but never to the point that I didn’t want to keep reading. Luckily, the chapters are mostly short, so “one more” could be just a few minutes but I did end up reading well past my bedtime!
The premise as noted on the blurb is 4 close girlfriends who have known each other since college and now approaching 40 going on holiday with their families. Now, for anyone who has done this in real life, this can be a recipe for disaster, and it is true here. Almost from the beginning, it is obvious that there are secrets, tensions and some unresolved issues, not least among them among them in main narrator, Kate. I occasionally found her so annoying that I wanted to shout at her to stop. Without giving plot details away, Kate’s suspicions cause her to process many details in a skewed manner such that she’s not able to see the true picture until it is nearly too late.
The narrative is not entirely from Kate’s perspective – other characters get to star in some of the chapters, adding to the tensions as you “see” some different aspects of the story. This is particularly true in the latter half of the book, where more time is spent on the children’s viewpoints (the first part focusing mostly on the adults). The teenage angst and sibling rivalries on display with the children felt authentic and more than a little unnerving to those of us who are far removed from teenage years ourselves. I thought the author did a good job of balancing all the different pieces, providing some good misdirection and hiding the BIG reveal well.
I like TM Logan’s writing style, and character and plot development both in this book and the other book of his I read, Lies. The characters are believable even when they are unlikable, and I know I wouldn’t want any of them as friends. To me it is a mark of a good writer when I can stick with a book where I don’t like the characters but I have to keep reading to find out what happens next. Just one more chapter….
My thanks to NetGallery, St. Martin's press and the author for a copy of this book to read in exchange for my honest review.
Kate and her 3 friends have been friends for many years, but over the last few years they somehow grew apart as their own families grow. They decide to vacation in France together like old times, although this time bringing their families too. Kate, Izzy, Rowan, and Jennifer aren't necessarily the best of friends anymore, but could they really hurt each other. When Kate finds some questionable messages on her husband's phone, she begins to question if she really knows her friends.
This is a book told from multiple points of view with a lot of secrets. The 4 women, the husbands, and even the kids are keeping things from each other. No one is happy, so in a way the story is a little depressing. There were a lot of twists as the secrets were revealed and not necessarily what each person was suspecting. I was definitely surprised by the reveal, but also figured bits and pieces out along the way. I enjoyed the writing, and the author's story telling ability, although I felt the ending left a little to be desired.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! No spoilers. Beyond amazing I enjoyed this book so very much. The characters and storyline were fantastic. The ending I did not see coming Could not put down nor did I want to. Truly Amazing and appreciated the whole story. This is going to be a must read for many many readers. Maybe even a book club pick.
I loved this book It kept me wanting to read to see what was gonna happen. I went from thinking it was one person to the next person to the next and so forth and in the end there were a couple of twists I didn’t see coming. I would definitely recommend this read!
If you like books about cheating husbands. This is the book for you. Not particularly for me. Kind of a formula pretty similar to most of the others of this genre. I’m sure it will appeal to many people. Thank you for the chance to read it
Thank you to Net Galley and St. Martin's press for the chance to read and review this book. This is the story of Kate and her three best friends. All four of them, along with their husbands and children, decide to meet for a vacation at a beautiful villa in the South of France. At the beginning of the story, Kate discovers some texts on her husband Adam's phone that lead her to think he is having an affair with one of her friends. Then the action begins! I found myself reading this quickly because I wanted to find out what was going on. The author does a great job of slowly giving the reader clues before revealing the answers. It kept me guessing until the end. I really enjoyed it!
The Vacation started out strong, old friends going on vacation to France. By the middle of the book I just wanted to find out how the book ended, but all and all it was a page turner. Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy.
