This book was incredibly written. This book had so many twists. I thought it would go one way and it went the other way. I was definitely a page turner. I highly recommend this book!
Special thanks to Netgalley, St. Martin Press, and T.M. Logan for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I have been lucky enough to receive ARC’s of all of Logan’s previous works, including “29 Seconds” and “Lies” and this one beats them all. Fans of “Big Little Lies” will find a book kindred in TM Logan’s newest work, “The Vacation”.
Kate has decided to turn 40 in style, by renting a villa in a beautiful vineyard in France, surrounded by her closest friends, their partners and children. As she reconnects with her friends, Izzy, Rowan and Jennifer, amid the beautiful scenery and chaotic activity of five children, Kate is confident that this is the birthday she had been planning for. Doubt begins to settle in when she discovers mysterious texts on her husband’s phone, with clues pointing to the sender being one of her close friends. Then her teenage daughter starts acting strangely, and her friend’s partner, Alistair, seems to be spending an awful lot of time with her daughter. Kate soon realizes that the people in her life are not who they seem and many of them are keeping dangerous secrets. To what end will Kate go to ensure her family is safe?
The Vacation is depicted as a murder-mystery, but I find it sits more comfortable in the “family vacation gone wrong” genre. Sure, there is a murder, but it doesn’t happen until the very end and there is so many other things going on before that happens, that the murder itself should not be the main attraction. The family drama is intense, and engaging, and I thoroughly enjoyed trying to figure out the dramatic twists and turns.
None of the characters are particularly likable, but the drama they surround themselves in is entertaining enough to keep a reader enthralled. Each chapter ends in a cliff-hanger that makes this novel hard to put down. I read through this book in two days (and okay, maybe the Corona self-isolation contributed to this….) and was drawn in from page one.
There are some predictable twists in this one, but also some unexpected surprises and the ending comes as the biggest shock of them all.
Logan continues to get better and better, and I found this one to be the best of the bunch.
A reunion to celebrate 40th birthdays for four women who've been friends since college- a vacation with spouses and children in a villa in France. Secrets and lies. What could possibly go wrong? Read this on a plane in almost one sitting- unputdownable read. Highly recommend.
Kate and her three best friends, along with their husbands and kids, are on a holiday together. You put 12 people together and there’s bound to be drama! Kate thinks her husband is having an affair with one of her friends so she uses this time on holiday to try to figure out who that is. It isn’t only the adults with the drama; the kids have plenty of issues of their own. None of the characters were very likeable, the adults as well as their children! But it was a fun read nonetheless and I definitely did not see that ending coming!
Girlfriends Kate, Izzy, Jennifer and Rowan have been friends forever. This year as they turn 40, they plan to celebrate it with a week long holiday in a gorgeous villa in France along with the or family and kids. It's supposed to be a dreamy holiday away from the day today stress and city life!
However Kate's holiday is already not looking good as her teenage daughter is looking distant and troubled and her husband seems like he's having an affair. More specifically, he seems to be having an affair with one of her best friends! And she's intended to find the culprit. Instead of confronting her husband face to face, she starts her own investigation by hacking her husband's phone and going through her friend's things! Oh did I mention Kate works with the FBI as an investigator? She's not the cops though.
As the drama unfolds, more secrets, lies, and betrayal comes to light followed by an unfortunate murder! Told from the Kate's PoV and the other characters recurring in alternative chapters, the author makes sure to hook his audience right where he wants. I tried lying to myself that it's one more chapter and I'll keep it down but I simply couldn't. The suspense is intriguing and the characters are completely unfaithful and unreliable. You would want to know what happens next without wasting any time.
T. M. Logan plays with family dynamics creating domestic troubles, and brilliantly turning them into a nail biting suspense thriller. In the picturesque village of France, the villa is just what you need for a holiday getaway. Except the murder. It's just the perfect plot and a highly recommended beach book to binge upon!
Many thanks to the publisher for sending me a digital copy in exchange for my honest opinion. All opinions are solely mine.
Very good, just when I would think this storyline is so lame t would surprise me. Great ending that i didn’t expect.
The Vacation takes place in the South of France, at an impressive vineyard & luxury villa. 4 women who were college roommates, their spouses and children all meet together for a vacation of a lifetime. Despite all of their lives moving in different directions, they have been getting together every year for over 10 years for vacations together and after five years of missing those vacations, they are looking forward to 7 days of sun and fun once again as a group, in the year they all turn 40.
Rowan, a high powered business woman was able to score the use of the house they are staying in, as a result of a client deal that is going particularly well. She is there with her husband Russ and their 5 year old daughter, Odette . Izzy, a teacher of English as a foreign language, is coming in from Bangkok, but now will be staying in the UK after the trip, something she has not done in the last 15 years. Izzy is the only single friend in the bunch.. Jennifer, a full time Mom is there with her husband Alistair, and her 2 teenage boys, Ethan and Jake. Kate, a crime analyst with the metropolitan police and her husband Sean are at the house with their teenage daughter Lucy and their young son, Daniel.
I loved T. M. Logan's other novels, but this one is not to be listed among my favorites, despite it being a good enough book. The first two-thirds of the book felt too slow as Logan builds the story, while the last third races by at an unprecedented speed. I found myself disliking most of the kids, as they acted out in a myriad of ways, and even some of the adults bugged me throughout the reading of the book. The description of the area however, made me want to go to the south of France, as it sounded absolutely stunning. I kept wondering why everyone couldn't just get along.... but I learned there were definitely reasons that things were not all fun and games on this vacation. If you enjoy thrillers and do not mind a slow build, I would still recommend The Vacation.
This was a twisted story. It starts off making you think one thing but it ends up something completely different.
The characters all seemed caught up in their own issues and I found myself not really liking them too much. I think the last third of the book was the most interesting .
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the early copy
The Vacation by TM Logan is full of twists and mystery when a group of old friends gather for a much-needed vacation. Unfortunately these are not the most communicative of folks and the plot thickens when what is not said hangs in the air or leads the characters to get lost in their own projections and fears. Each misunderstanding leads to a worsening of the situation and it is not sorted out until the very end, and after much tragedy.
I had very much enjoyed Logan's previous novel, Lies, and was a bit disappointed to find the writing less tight and the characters more superficial and less likable than in that previous novel. I think I will now try "29 Seconds," as it gets fabulous reviews. Nonetheless, the plot of The Vacation is unpredictable and engaging for the lover of tragedy and mystery.
This was my first book by T. M. Logan but this definitely won’t be my last. I was drawn to this story due to the simple synopsis of a summer vacation gone wrong, secrets, affairs, and murder. This was a pretty quick read that I had a hard time putting down. The characters are fleshed out pretty well making it hard to guess who the “bad guy” is. I kept going back and forth and was ultimately surprised by the end. I highly recommend this one if you’re looking for a fun summer thriller that keeps you guessing and turning pages! A solid 4 stars
A slow build but overall good plot pace. T.M. Logan offers readers a plethora of characters with secrets to hide. As suspense novels go this holds some familiarity in trope with limited exploration into character depth. The plot is fairly easy to analyze as the story develops but the read is still interesting as the wide array of characters are elusive and fun to watch as they unravel. Good read. 3 stars.
Thank you to #NetGalley for this ARC which was read and reviewed voluntarily.
My thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a free ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Well, T.M. Logan is very good at hiding his characters' tracks. The blurb doesn't even begin to describe all the twists and turns in this thriller. And that ending! Loved it. Was justice served? I'll leave you to decide! Very well written. There are parts where you have to stick with it: some passages could have done with a bit of trimming, and some of the characters are less likeable than others, but that is real life, which I always appreciate in a good novel. Highly recommended.
Very atmospheric and entertaining. This would be a quick an easy beach read, bonus points if you're on the beach in the south of France. Thank you to Netgalley and the author for the advanced copy. As always it is appreciated.
The Vacation takes you through a turbulent week in France with 4 life long friends, their spouses and their children. Things are not as straight forward as they seem. Expect half truths, infidelity, broken relationships and bonds that can’t be broken. Watch what secrets can do to the very best of friends.
The story is adrenaline inducing, with an ending that points the finger at everyone in the group. 4 stars.
After reading 29 seconds I knew I had to read this one also. Kate and her friends had always taken a girls trip each year. But this year they decided they would invite their husbands and kids. They go to France and stay in a large villa Kate has started to become suspicious of her husband who has taken an usual interest in his appearance and when she sees text messages on his phone from another woman she fears the worst.
Paranoia takes over for Kate and she starts to think one of her friends is having an affair with her husband. She is looking everywhere for clues on who it could be.
The crazy part of the story is this is not the only secret in the villa. One of her friends husbands tells Kate that he believes his wife is having an affair. In addition, something is going on with Kates daughter who is upset with something that happened at her school.
I really enjoyed this story it had a slow build up but I was intrigued enough to keep reading and was in suspense of what was going to happen. There were so many different things happening between the friends and with all the secrets I never knew the truth or what was going to happen. The ending was great and unpredictable. This is definitely a must read for lovers of thriller books.
The story plot on The Vacation is interesting, I liked that the story happens during a vacation in France. The rythm was a little slow tough which made me cheated and passed on a few chapters. A great vacation read!
Thank you St.Martin’s press for this ARC.
The Vacation by T.M. Logan is an entertaining, hold on to the edge of your seat book. What started out as a simple vacation for four long time female friends and their families, steadily evolved into a complicated series of lies and misdirections. I thought I had things figured out several times only to discover I was way off base. The characters were well developed. The plot had more twists than expected right up to the surprising end. Wonderful reading experience.
I received an Advanced Reader's Copy from St Martin's Press through NetGalley. The opinions expressed are completely my own.

Kate thinks she has a wonderful life. Beautiful children, a great career, and a happy marriage. She reflects on her life as her family travels to a luxurious villa in the south of France to spend a week with her three best friends. But something feels off as her family arrives at the villa, and she soon discovers an incriminating text on her husband's phone revealing that her husband is having an affair with one of her friends. With no one to trust, Kate is determined to figure out which one of her friends has betrayed her.
The Vacation forces Kate to take a closer look at herself and the relationships with those closest to her. This involves her reliving her past, seeing things outside of her rose-colored glasses. T.M. Logan has once again delivered a novel with a great combination of mystery and suspense, bringing her characters and conflicts to life. No detail was left overlooked, and it really made me think how I would react if I were Kate.
I'm not sure I would want to include any of these women in my group of friends, but it was an interesting read with some unexpected twists and turns.
Kate, Jennifer, Rowan and Izzy were friends in college. They have had frequent reunions of just the four of them, but this year they decide to bring their husbands and children along on a week long French vacation. The first 75% of this book consists of Kate saying and thinking “my husband is having an affair with one of my friends, oh woe is me”. That storyline doesn’t interest me. In the last 25% of the book, you begin to get inklings that the issues may be larger than problems in Kate’s marriage, but it was a long wait for something interesting to happen in this book.
The author had the annoying habit of having Kate find something “shocking” (in someone else’s room, in a trash can, on a video etc.) without telling us what it is that she found until later. It’s an amateurish device to build tension and it was seriously overused in this book. I didn’t hate the book, but Kate’s prolonged dithering didn’t entertain me and the other adults on the vacation weren’t a really interesting group. Actually, I think the book would have been better if the main focus had been on the teenagers.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher.
