I wasn't a fan. I think it just wasn't something that resonated with me, I couldn't get myself into this collection.
I received a complimentary review copy of #LaughterIncludestheWord from #NetGalley
This book was set up in a very unique way, with the left side of each page spread having a photograph of the page the poetry was physically written on, and the right having a typed version of the poem, with small notes about each poem underneath. The poems are from a broad timespan of the author's life, which also adds a feeling that these photographs are a sort of time capsule or montage. That said, I wasn't particularly fond of the poetry itself but the photos and notes were amazing.
My apologies, this is the first book that I've ever forgotten to download and had no idea it was waiting for feedback. I'm sorry I cannot provide a review for this book.
It was a great book of poetry. It wasn't exactly my type, but it was nice. Some of the poems were kind of pointless, though.
I received a free digital copy of this book from Netgalley for an honest review.
These poems were okay. I didn't really feel a connection to this collection.
This is my first exposure to Doug Snelson's work, but I found it to be engaging and beautiful. Snelson uses poetic form playfully and powerfully. I enjoyed Laughter Includes the Word a great deal and would recommend it for readers of verse.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
This book of poems is a lovely collection with photographs throughout the book of the original poems that Doug Snelson wrote down on pieces of note book paper or anything he could write them down on to.
I loved this feature and the small pieces of information given about or relating to each of his poems underneath each poem.
A lovely collection.
Some selected verses that offer some insight into the poet’s life and how he turns every day events into art through his poetry. The poems range from what some might consider an ordinary everyday happening to a significant life event. The explanations of what inspired the poem make each one a bit more memorable in that regard.
Poetry is a highly individual art form, both in the creating and the experiencing of it. With that in mind, I will say there were some which made me smile, some that made me think, and some that also seemed to pass me by. I believe the same might happen for most people who pick this book up with an idea of reading some poetry.
For writers, particularly writers of poetry, this book may offer more insight into how their personal prism might be applied to create poems that have greater depth than simply retelling the event itself. I highly encourage anyone reading the book to read the explanation of how each poem came into being.
