Another great book by this author. I really enjoy her style of writing and the ways that the characters come to life. Recommended.

Charming Historical Mystery.....
Charming historical cosy mystery. Adelaide, 1931 - Francis, a telephone operator, overhears a suspicious call and soon turns amateur sleuth along with nightclub owner, the enigmatic Jack. Nicely drawn characters and an immersive plot make this atmospheric mystery very enjoyable indeed.

Frances and Jack is a new pair on the cozy mystery scene. I can tell you that much.
Depression era Adelaide, Australia, unemployed masses and beggars, prohibition and silk stockings, shillings and home-made ice cream. This light books reads as history of the era rather than mystery. I loved the easy flow of if, the language, the insistent slang, the descriptions. Author is a very attentive historian.
Frances is the switchboard operator at the Post Office. One day at work she overhears talks about crime and murder. What is she to do? He whole family depends on her income. She can't tell. She'll lose her job. But a murder? Here comes in dashing nightclub owner White Jack and solves all the problems. Like all of them.
Are they a couple? Are they courting? Are they?
All is well that ends well. Happy End is the must in this story.
A trip down the time tunnel, into the 1930s Australia, lovable characters, amazingly warm family dynamics, clean cut good and bad guys. A very cozy read indeed.
There will be more...
