I enjoyed this historical romance with the two main characters that were Lady Lydia Torrence and Oliver, Earl of Roxwaithe. And also the rest of the characters to.
Lady Lydia Torrence has love Oliver since she was 4 years old. She told him that she would one day merry him. At the age of eighteen she had her first kiss with him.
Oliver, the Earl of Roxwaithe has regarded Lady Lydia Torrence as a sibling. He has told himself that she is to young for him. He think that she just has a crush on him and it will go away.
This was a fun story to read. It has a few surprises within. I thought it was sweet how she keep on loving him even after the things he said to her.
I received a complimentary copy via Netgalley. This is my honest unbiased opinion.
I recieved a free copy from netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Honestly if this book hasn't been so short I would not have finished it.
Oliver has known Lydia since she was days old and he was fourteen. They grew up together literally as he and his brothers frequently stayed with her family and she snuck into his study every single day.
The age difference wouldn't have been such a big deal except hr literally watched her grow up. The growing up together would have been such a big deal of they were closer in age but the two elements together didn't work for me.
Additionally nothing happens in the book other than the constant I have loved him always, she is too young, I'm to old.
Rescuing Lord Roxwaithe is the second book in the Lost Lords series. The book was interesting, and the characters were great. Oliver, Earl of Roxwaithe, has known Lady Lydia Torrence since she was born. She was always by his side as she grew up. She told everyone they would marry when she got older. Oliver always felt so much older even though he was only 14 years older, but he was convinced she had a childhood crush for him. When she turned eighteen and had her come-out she was heartbroken when he told her he only had feelings for her as a brother would. She left for the Continent and stayed away for over a year. Oliver felt her absence but when she returned, he still denied his feelings. Can she convince him that she knows her own feelings?
Oliver, Earl of Roxwaithe, has always regarded Lady Lydia Torrence as a sibling even as she’d declared one day they would wed. Fourteen years her elder, Oliver was convinced Lydia felt only a crush and when she inevitably declared her love, he had to refuse. After she left for the Continent, he told himself he didn’t miss her, that she had always been too young, and if perhaps he’d noticed she had become a woman, that was best left unsaid.
This was a decent read. I’ve read a lot of books with this same trope. Both characters were likable and the story flowed easily. Unfortunately there wasn’t much that I found in it to make it better or more different than the others.
**I voluntarily read and reviewed this book
Oliver, Earl of Roxwaithe has known Lady Lydia Torrence since she was born and looks on her as a sister. Lydia, at 18, kisses Oliver declaring she loves and wants to marry him. Oliver, being 14 years older, thinks that she is too young for him. Lydia, who knows that he loves her as she does him, goes to the continent to gain some experience in order to win Oliver.
Once returned, another suitor causes Oliver to see Lydia in a different light. Will he or wont he? I recommend you purchase the book to find out how their story ends.
Thank you Cassandra Dean and NetGalley for allowing me an advance copy for my honest feedback.
The best part of this book is the main character Lydia Torrence. She is a strong female character that knows what she wants. She has known since she was a child that she would one day marry Lord Roxwaithe and nothing will deter her determination to be with him. However, Lord Roxwaithe was a very frustrating character. His actions were showing one thing but his mouth was saying another. All in all this was a very sweet story.
I received an ARC for my honest review.
Rescuing Lord Roxwaithe, you would think its from some sort of dilemma, but its actually quite simple, its from himself. The yes, no between Lydia and Oliver, get a tad tiresome and the untimely return of Maximum is a bit strange. The book has some holes in the story line, but other then that it's not so bad. This is the first time Im reading this author, and I won't mind reading another book. Just a tad more detail on the characters would be nice.
I was so interested in the book, I didn't realise I would finish it in within a matter of hours! I found the story very charming and loved how the characters felt real.
This was a sweet story . I truly loved Lydia. She's so determined and so in love. Oliver is charming , handsome and 14 years older than Lydia. Since birth, she has been his everything. No spoiler here. This story is well developed. My only complaint is that it ends too soon!
Sometimes an attraction when young can become a true love. That is if one party did not fight it and that is what Oliver, Earl of Roxwaithe had done. Having watched his neighbor, Lydia be born and grow up had just been part of his life. She had attached herself to him at a young age and they had been friends, although there was a 14 year difference.
But when she was 18 and declared she loved him, he pushed her away. Oliver had not had the best of lives growing up. With an absent father and a brother dying, he and his sibling had grown up at Lydia's house and he relied upon her father for so much, especially when he came into the Earldom.
Now, Lydia was back from the continent and taking the Ton by storm. How could he endure it? Yes he really did care about her but felt it was not appropriate.
Fortunately, fate has other ideas and this was a wonderful story seeing these two struggle to come together and have their happy ever after. Adored this story!
What a spendid historical romance. Cassandra Dean has written a very good story. Good writing and characters.
Rescuing Lord Roxwaithe is a very sweet story about two people who are meant to be together. Lydia has always loved her neighbor, Oliver Lord Roxwaithe, since she was a little girl. He is older than her by 14 years and she knew she would grow up to marry him.
Oliver always believed Lydia would grow out of her infatuation with him and find a young man her own age to love her. When he starts to see her as a grown woman he rejects her and hurts her terribly. After an extended tour of the continent she is back and is ready to win her man.
Oliver and Lydia have a rare connection. Oliver does everything in his power to resist this woman who he believes deserves to much more than an older husband. Lydia knows what she wants and isn't above seduction. This results in some steamy situations. Both Lydia and Oliver are likable and I did want them to sit down and have a conversation with each other instead of assuming each knows what the other wants.
I really enjoyed the book and want to read more about Oliver and Lydia's families.
Oliver, Earl of Roxwaithe, has always regarded Lady Lydia Torrence as a sibling even as she’d declared one day they would wed. Fourteen years her elder, Oliver was convinced Lydia felt only a crush and when she inevitably declared her love when she was eighteen, he had to refuse. After she left for the Continent, he told himself he didn’t miss her, that she had always been too young, and if perhaps he’d noticed she had become a woman, that was best left unsaid.
Lydia had always known she loved Oliver and he loved her. Oliver is stubborn in his resolve until a new suitor for Lydia puts Oliver’s resolve to the test.
This is the second book in the series & whilst it could be read on its own the time frames do overlap so I’d recommend reading them in order. I read this book immediately after reading Alex's story & I'm now impatiently waiting Stephen’s story, I’ve found another must read author. I loved both Oliver & Lydia even though I wanted to shake Oliver several times. The chemistry between the pair was always there & they knew each other so well & were definitely soul mates. A well written novel that drew me in from the first page & their first meeting when Lydia was three days old to the lovely epilogue.
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
tl;dr: This cute, short little book combines some of the best plot devices—siblings' hot older friend, crush-on-you-forever, & etc—without falling prey to some of the gross or more annoying ones. Lydia was awesome, and I enjoyed the side characters, too.

Oliver, Earl of Roxwaithe, has always regarded Lady Lydia Torrence as a sibling even as she’d declared one day they would wed. When I started reading I couldn't put it down.Cassandra Dean is magnifysent and amazing writer.I cannot wait to read more of there books.Keep up the great work. You should definitely read this book. Can't wait for the next book.
Rescuing Lord Roxwaithe by Cassandra Dean is book Two in the Lost Lords Series. This is the story of Oliver, Earl of Roxwaithe and Lydia Torrence. I haven't yet read the previous book, so for me this was a standalone book. Lydia has always loved Oliver since she was young but he is 14 years older and a friend of the family. So he has placed her in the little sister box but when she is of age she tries to show her feelings but he rebuffs her which of course hurts her. But she does end up leaving to advance herself to make her more of a alluring women that hopefully will open his eyes. A few years later she is back and of course Olive tries to deter her and his feelings but then someone else shows interest in her which starts to open Olives eyes to his true feelings.
Enjoyed their story.
This is about Lydia who knew from when she was young who she was going to marry. But will she really marry him when she grows up? I thought this was a sweet story. I liked that their was chemistry between the characters. One thing I liked less were the dialogues, some were a bit too long.
A lovely story of childhood friends. She knew Oliver was hers since he was fourteen and she was three days old. She waited for him but he kept fighting her because he was so much older than her. She was Miss Lydia Clair Torrence and she loved Oliver Malcolm Aloysius Farlisle, heir to the Earl of Roxwaithe. She has a sister and a brother while Oliver has two more brothers. But his youngest brother had died at sea. There are some wonderful twists to this tale of a cruel parent, his father. The characters are great and so engaging. the writing is marvelous and moves with excellent ease. It is entertaining and keeps your attention.
I received th8s ARC from Net Galley and voluntarily reviewed it.
Nothing really happens for the first 45% so i thought it was pretty boring which leads to me giving this only 2.5 stars rounded up to three, although because I didn't give it a 2 stars there were obviously some great aspects of the book, I thought their romance was sweet but also thought he was waaaay to old for her which he himself mentions quite a lot when he tries to explain why he turns her down.
I really enjoyed Rescuing Lord Roxwaithe. The book starts out with Oliver meeting Lydia for the very first time - he was 14 and she was 3 days old. From the first moment he holds her, Oliver feels a connection to Lydia. Oliver's family was extremely close to Lydia's. With Lydia's parents acting more like his parents than Oliver's own. Over time Oliver and Lydia remain close - closer than you would find most with a 14 year age gap. Lydia from a very early age declares that she is going to marry Oliver when she is old enough (something I think is pretty common for little girls). But that feeling doesn't go away with time - and when Lydia turns 18 she kisses Oliver. Oliver being 32 has a major freak-out related to it and Lydia is swept off to the continent for some "polish" and some much needed distance from Oliver.
Oliver, I think, was in love from Lydia - but the age difference was a real stumbling block. I think he felt like he was a creepy person to have feelings for Lydia - that they were wrong and inappropriate. And truthfully, I don't think he was wrong. Even though those kinds of age gaps weren't uncommon - Lydia was definitely too young at 18, When Lydia returns - Oliver has extremely mixed emotions about it. He is in love with Lydia but doesn't think he deserves her and that she still doesn't know her own mind. Lydia, on the other hand is frustrated by Oliver's paternalistic viewpoint and tries to get him to adjust his thinking - with only limited success.
Both Oliver and Lydia are very believable and understandable characters. I enjoyed the writing style and the connections between all the people in the books. What kept this from being a four star read for me were some of the historical items - I'm not a super stickler - but a few things just bothered me. Like Oliver not going to Eton until he was 14 (usually boys started around age 10 or even earlier). And the overall freedom both Lydia and Alexandra had - most girls of their age groups in their class were pretty much kept under lock and key - let alone writing journal articles or traveling on their own.
Overall - this was a very sweet book that I enjoyed!
I received this as an ARC from NetGalley - but these opinions are my own!
