The Wife Stalker by Liv Constantine might be this pair's best novel yet! This one had a twist that I did not see coming. I feel like with a lot of thrillers or suspense novels now the reader can almost anticipate the surprise, but the writing in this book is just so smooth that the writers get ya in the end!
I went into this book blind, reading only a part of the blurb and I think it's best that way so I'll share some of the blurb provided: "Breezing into the tiny seaside paradise of Westport, Connecticut, gorgeous thirtysomething Piper Reynard sets down roots, opening a rehab and wellness space and joining a local yacht club. When she meets Leo Drakos, a handsome, successful lawyer, the wedding ring on his finger is the only thing she doesn’t like about him. Yet as Piper well knows, no marriage is permanent.
Meanwhile, Joanna has been waiting patiently for Leo, the charismatic man she fell in love with all those years ago, to re-emerge from the severe depression that has engulfed him. Though she’s thankful when Leo returns to his charming, energetic self, paying attention again to Evie and Stelli, the children they both love beyond measure, Joanna is shocked to discover that it’s not her loving support that’s sparked his renewed happiness—it’s something else."
This book is told from both Joanna and Piper's POV. We are introduced to things going on in the present as well as past relationships and family dynamics. There may be an unreliable narrator (or two) and you may have to suspend some disbelief, but the book is so well written and even with the clues you get along the way you will still be shocked by the end.
Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest thoughts.
Unfortunately, "The Wife Stalker" didn't live up to my expectations after reading "The Last Mrs. Parrish" and being utterly shocked. However, I did enjoy the characters and the surprising twist at the end. 3.5 stars
What fucking trash. I mean, honestly. This is written at around a second grade level with as much character development as your average sea monkey farm. The twist was absurd. The resolution was worse.
This book did capture my attention, but the twist was a bit out there for me. I definitely didn't see it coming, and this was a case that when looking back, I didn't see what I may have missed. In order for me to truly love a good twist, I want to be able to look back and see breadcrumbs that I missed. Not in this case.
Joanna is seemingly the likable one, forced away from her children when Leo decides he's in love with another woman. Joanna's mother needs caring for, so this is the perfect opportunity for Leo to move her out.
Piper is the other woman. She has two dead husbands and a dead stepdaughter in her path, so it's hard to trust her.
Joanna certainly doesn't trust her, but as the jilted one, everyone tells her to move on.
Piper just wants the kids to like her. It's so hard to step in as the "new mommy."
Both have secrets and both are not quite who they seem. The book is suspenseful, but again, the twist bugged me.
Joanna is worried about her ex-husband’s new wife. Piper reinvented herself after moving to a new town. Piper is hiding some secrets that could have disastrous consequences for Leo and his two children. The story isn’t exactly what it seems. This medium passed book was a fun interesting read.
Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to read this book.
When Joanna finds her life upended by the new, prettier, younger wife, she's not sure how she'll ever regain good standing with her family. But as Piper's sordid past is unearthed, a fight to save her two young children from their evil new stepmother looms imminent.
The twist was obvious by the absurdity of a sequence of events that happen about a quarter of the way through the novel. I knew something had to be up as soon as things started escalating so quickly...
This thriller sat forever on my NetGalley shelf and I'm not sure why! I really liked the premise, and I liked the un-likeability of the main character. Definitely recommend - even if it takes you over a year to get to it, like me!
I’m a fan of Liv Constantine and this one didn’t disappoint. This is a fast-paced thriller that will keep you guessing the entire time. This book has twists, turns, and multiple points of view. Definitely worth the read.
Thank you to the Publisher and Netgalley for the advanced e-reader copy. All opinions expressed are my own.
This was fun to read. Just as I was expecting for it to be. I couldn't put it down. Would recommend.
This will be a fun suspenseful read for many of my patrons, but fans of this author will likely start to become bored with the repeated themes.
I give this book 4 stars! The Wife Stalker had me guessing all the way through. Just when I thought I had it figured out, there would be someone else I thought did it. Liv Constantine always does a good job with the guessing game. This one is one of my favorites of theirs.
I received a free ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book was mediocre in my opinion. The storyline that the author was going for was good and the twists at the end are very good, but the execution of it was lacking. I felt the timeline seemed unlikely, some of the story seemed rushed to make things happen. Also, some of the storyline that made sense while reading didn’t quite add up after the twist. 2.5
This book was a decent story to keep you occupied if you don't have anything else to read. Unfortunately I have plenty of other things that I could be reading so this got put aside a lot! The beginning was interesting and the characters were introduced well, but I feel like it fell off in the middle. It was easy for me to put down and pick up something else to read instead. It took me a long time to force myself to finish and I found the ending to not fit with the storyline and be vastly unbelievable.
I’ve been a huge fan of Liv Constantine ever since The Last Mrs. Parrish. After reading The Wife Stalker, I remember why I became a fan. This book held my attention and was a quick read for me. I loved the alternating point of views and I never knew who I could trust. Pick this one up immediately!
I would have to agree with the of the majority of the reviews here. This is not a book that I will be promoting to patrons. ARC provided by NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.
This novel was really hard to finish. In fact, it was not one of the better books I've read. The characters were not likable, and some of the tension that was supposed to be there just didn't register for me as the reader. I have tried and enjoyed some of Liv Constantine's other works, but this one was just tough to get through.
This is exactly what I needed! It took my mind off of everything going on in the world right now and immersed me in this shallow, elitist lifestyle of the characters. I pictured "Revenge" the TV show as I was reading this and absolutely loved this. Thanks to Net Galley for the chance to read and review this.
When Piper meets Leo Drakos, a handsome, successful lawyer, the wedding ring on his finger is the only thing she doesn’t like about him. Yet as Piper well knows, no marriage is permanent. Meanwhile, Joanna has been waiting patiently for Leo, the charismatic man she fell in love with all those years ago, to re-emerge from the severe depression that has engulfed him. However, it may be too late. Leo has fallen head over heels for Piper, the newcomer, and he’s more than willing to leave Joanna behind, along with everything they’ve built. As Joanna digs deeper into Piper’s past, she begins to unearth disturbing secrets…but when she confides to her therapist that she fears for the lives of her ex-husband and children, her concerns are dismissed as paranoia. Can she find the proof she needs in time to save them? review: I’ll admit, I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with this author. Some books I have loved, while others just weren’t for me. This one falls middle of the road for me. This book has a cast of characters and unreliable narrators, making it for a quick read, however a lot of the plot was a bit far-fetched and at times quite cheesy. I wish the characters had been a bit more developed and that *more* happened to provide a thrill. The first half of the book is a bit slow because nothing really happens. I personally found the writing to be a bit stilted and the story seemed disjointed – but the ending redeemed itself a little bit because I definitely didn’t see it coming! If you liked The Last Mrs. Parrish and want a quick fast-paced read you should give this a try, it may be a great book for you! rating: 3.5 out of 5 ⭐️
So much of this book didn’t make sense until the last 5 chapters, and even then I still feel like I’m left with some unanswered questions. Overall it was an exciting and quick read!
Thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins for an advanced copy of this book.
Story starts out slow but then the twist hits. You think you've figured out, but then think again; and then again.
