This is a talented author on a roll with this series. It has an interesting setting and a pretty good mystery. She also writes complicated characters. I can see why this author is so popular. She includes all the elements of a good story and mystery. Recommended.

Thanks very much for the ARC for review!!

Readers will enjoy this eagerly awaited new story in the riveting and immensely satisfying Sandhamm series set in the archipelago of Stockholm. The two main characters are childhood friends, each with their own family and work - Thomas, a police detective and Nora, a lawyer. The previous books have delved into their marriages, divorces, children, work troubles, and relationships, bringing each person into vivid life for the readers.
This latest story continues the author's fine take on Swedish island culture and people, embedded with an authentic and contemporary societal context. And, of course, there is always a murder mystery that pulls together Thomas and Nora, each contributing their own skills and knowledge. The author has a fine sensibility into the lives of the characters and weaves the plot against a backdrop of a beautiful and unique landscape. Read the series for the fascinating characters, the lyrical setting, and very surprising and satisfying mysteries.

Benjamin, aged 11, is signed up for a sailing camp that he really does not want to attend. .Sadly, bullies and a lurking pedophile are not the worst of his experiences there--he's disappeared, and Thomas is assigned to the case. Is it the pedophile who is responsible?. Did the bullies go too far? Is his disappearance somehow related to his father's involvement in the criminal trial which Nora is prosecuting? As she does so well, Sten skillfully intertwines several plots and throws in a few surprises. An edge of your seat thriller for Nordic Noir fans. Thanks to the publisher and Netgelley for this ARC.

This was another winner from the author. My favorite from this series. The author did a good job of integrating a number of different story lines. There was a great deal of suspense throughout the book.

Viveca Sten amazes me in how she plants red herrings early to confuse you into believing certain people are guilty of a crime and then it is the other person. She has several scenarios to work with in creating her story. Scenario 1 was between Niklas Winnerman and his partner Christian Dufva. Winnerman was charged with embezzling 10,000,000 Kroner and bankrupting his business. Scenario 2 was between Nora and Jonas, he had to fly to Bangkok and had a wedding planned on the next Friday. Scenario 3 was between Christian Dufva and his son Benjamin, with his first wife, he was going to go to sailing camp. Scenario 4 was Benjamin at camp with bullies Samuel and Sebastian (Sebbe) on his tail. Scenario 5 was Isak, who was the blue teams leader, he had several serious happenings to occur with a Clara, with Benjamin, and with Samuel. Scenario 6 was Tomas and Pernilla's floundering relationship. Scenario 7 was Pontus Lindqvist as a kidnapper and pedophile. Everything changed when Christian Dufva changed his testimony against Winnerman and Nora had to find out why. But I won't tell you what happens because I don't like spoilers you will have to read the story and find out what happens in all the senarios'. This was a good book to read and I can believe everything that happens in the story. Will you.

I love, love, love this series! It never disappoints and I have to tell you this one was a cliffhanger of the first accord. Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity of an early read of one of my favorite authors.

The location is wonderful, the characters well rounded and the plot, well Nora and Thomas May be on parallel tracks in their investigations but you know sooner or later their paths will converge for an exciting conclusion. I can’t wait for the next one!

Definitely put this one on your to read list for next year.

Thank you NetGalley and AmazonCrossing for the eARC.
Another good mystery in this enjoyable series.
Nora and Jonas are on the verge of getting married at the same time as she's involved in a big, important fraud case as proscecutor. She's overwhelmed, to say the least.
Thomas is looking into the case of a missing boy, who may or may not have been abducted by a pedophile. The insight into the thought process of the pedophile is a bit disturbing and more graphic than the previous books.
Every chapter ends on a cliffhanger, making it hard to put the book down. Definitely recommended.

I always enjoy these Swedish mysteries. In recent ones she's moved away from always having the majority of the action on the island which I miss a bit. I found Nora's relationship with Jonas a bit puzzling in this one, they have a child together but she seems very unsure many years in about how she feels about Jonas. I like seeing Nora in her job though and thought that added to the mystery. I thought the look into the mind of the pedophile was a bit more graphic than anything that has been in earlier books. It didn't really bother me but it seemed a little out of place this many books in. In the earlier books, the viewpoint of the killer and the actually killing was a more opaque.

I always know what I'm going to get with a Viveca Sten book--a good mystery with complicated characters who are trying to juggle professional and personal lives. I can relate to Nora Linde as an older mother (we both had our 3rd children in our 40s) and find Sten's depiction of Nora accurate. This book begins with Nora preparing for trial in a difficult fraud case and planning for her upcoming Midsummer's wedding to Jonas, while Thomas has returned to the police and is coping with a pending reorganization and his wife's extensive travels. Personal turmoil surrounds both of the lead characters as their respective professional cases suddenly intersect. A good, satisfying read.
