I love Amish books! This was no exception! I don’t know what it is... the honesty, the community, the pure simplicity of their lives... regardless, I enjoyed following with Hannah on her journey to happiness.
This is the first book I have read by Molly. I don’t read too much Amish fiction because I struggle to find it interesting, but I always want to give it a try (I have a few more reviews coming up in Amish fiction).
I am really torn with my review on this one. Parts of it I enjoyed. I really felt the tension with Charlene and I did not like her at all, so the author did a great job of making Charlene the villain. But it really made no sense to me why Timothy would keep spending time with her when she seemed completely opposite from him. I didn’t feel that was believable.
I also appreciate Hannah’s desire to teach and step out of her comfort zone and do something new and I liked her circle of friends.
But if I am being completely honest I didn’t connect with the writing style in this book. It was very different from what I enjoy reading. Some wording felt unnatural and perhaps that was due to the Amish style? But I’ve read other Amish books before and didn’t really feel that way. The thought processes of the characters seemed forced, like that is was information the author wanted to tell us, instead of show us?
Again, there were parts I did enjoy and if this is an author you have read and like then you will probably enjoy this book as well.
A copy of this book was given to me through the Celebrate Lit Team. All opinions are my own.
I enjoy reading sweet, wholesome stories, and Molly Jebber’s stories always have a way of touching my heart. What I’ve loved most about this series is the Amish community of Charm, Ohio, in the year 1912. These books make me wish I could visit the bakery there and talk with Hannah, Ellie, and Magdalena.
We read this story from the viewpoints of both Hannah and Timothy. Hannah’s a lovely young Amish lady who enjoys visiting with and helping her friends and family. She’s not been in a hurry to get married, even though Timothy has been courting Hannah for some time. However, Hannah has misjudged Timothy’s feelings about the delay. Timothy thinks Hannah likes him only as a friend, and he decides it may be time to move forward with someone else who is serious about marriage. He meets Charlene, a newcomer to their community, and she immediately makes her interest in Timothy known to all. Hannah realizes the true state of her heart, but is it too late for her to make this known to Timothy?
I was quite interested in the characters in this book. Both Hannah and Timothy are wonderful people, and it was easy to see that they belonged together. Charlene was a total contrast to Hannah, as she was manipulative and secretive. Although Charlene was sometimes over-the-top with her behavior, her character fit well with the storyline.
Amish fiction fans will enjoy this book. I’m hoping there’s still more to comeopinions are my from that little Amish community of Charm.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
"Hannah's Courage" is the third book in the Amish Charm Bakery series and can be thoroughly enjoyed as a standalone. I must admit that I believe that I enjoyed it more because I had read the first two and to me, this story was a visit to old friends in a familiar community. Charm is a lovely little place that I have visited many times and there actually is a bakery that I can't miss going to ! Thus, the setting of this book stimulated all of my senses... I could smell those delicious goodies baking and taste the wonderful pastries!
The characters are so realistically and well described that you easily identify with each one. Hannah was a dear person who feared change, much like myself. Although she had desires and dreams, she kept them to herself rather than pushing forward. She had deep feelings for a particular young man, she kept them to herself...... perhaps for too long. Did she miss her opportunity?? Charlene was a character who I struggled to like! She was pushy, at times to the point of rudeness. Not the type of person who I would want for a friend. She also had feelings for the young man, Timothy! Would Hannah regret her decision to leave the bakery, a job she loved, to teach, a job she did not really love, just to avoid watching romance pass her by?
The plot moved at a slow steady pace with some unexpected twists and turns to keep the reader engrossed from beginning to end of the novel. There were no jolting moments, however, this sweet romance had qualities that definitely appealed to me. Poor Hannah had so many challenges to face, some within, some caused by others.
Overall, this is a heartwarming tale that emphasizes love, faith and the courage to express ourselves in a kind, honest fashion. Hannah's faith kept her strong in times of challenge , achieving more than she ever expected.
All lovers of the Amish Fiction Genre will enjoy this book. Molly Jebber will not disappoint!
This book was received from CelebrateLit. The thoughts and opinions expressed are honest and my own.
An Amish Charm Bakery Novel, Hannah’s Courage, brings out several “food for thought” ideas, pardon the pun please. Foremost is courage to try new things and follow your dreams. Hannah was born and raised in small town Charm and never ventured outside her small town borders. But chasing a back burner dream may cause her to do that exact thing.
Good communication is another thing that is ignored by Hannah and her long time friend Timothy. How much heartache could have been avoided?
Spending quality time with children and allowing them to pursue their talents no matter how busy you may be. Another lesson taught well in this novel.
Friendship love and romantic love brought a few tears and happy smiles to my face.
Set in 1913 Charm, Ohio, being Amish did not change much in the time frame from today’s Amish other than a few tidbits of history brought out by the locals. The majority of the story was in the local bakery and the close friendship among the women that worked there. It made me hungry a lot though! An added bonus was some of Hannah’s bakery recipes in the back.
You don’t necessarily have to like Amish stories in order to enjoy this story rich in lessons for all of us in today’s world.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through Celebrate Lit but was not required to write a review positive or otherwise.
Hannah’s Courage by Molly Jebber takes us back to May of 1913 in Charm, Ohio. Hannah Lapp and Timothy Barkman have grown up together and have become close friends. The relationship gradually changed, and they began courting. Whenever Timothy would bring up their future, Hannah would change the subject. Hannah is not one for change. Seeing her best friend, Ellie Wenger happy with marriage has Hannah realizing she is ready to tell Timothy how she feels about him. When Timothy enters Liza’s Amish Charm Bakery where Hannah works, she is delighted to see him until she notices the pretty woman on his arm. Charlene Shetler is new to town and was quick to latch onto Timothy. It seems that Hannah has waited too long to tell Timothy how she feels. Charlene has no qualms about letting Timothy know she likes him and desires a future with him. Timothy is uncomfortable with Charlene’s forthright manner, but he knows he needs to move on since Hannah does not reciprocate his feelings. Matters can certainly go awry when we fail to communicate. Hannah’s Courage is the third book in The Amish Charm Bakery series. It can be read as a standalone, but I recommend reading this charming series in order. Hannah’s Courage is nicely written, and the story moves along steadily. The author made me feel like I was visiting Charm and could smell the delectable items that are whipped up at the bakery. I also liked that we get to see things from Hannah and Timothy’s perspective with the alternating chapters. The characters are realistic. We get to see them go through their daily lives where they have struggles as well as joyful moments. The Amish community in Charm is close, and they help those in need. They have a kindly and caring bishop. Hannah works at Liza’s Amish Charm Bakery with her friends Ellie and Magdalena. I like that we get to catch up with Liza and Ellie to see how they are doing. Maryann and Rachel join the bakery ladies and they are a welcome addition. The friendship between these ladies is heartwarming. They are good friends who support each other. Hannah is a kind woman with a strong faith who dislikes change (I can certainly relate). I enjoyed seeing Hannah grow as a person and in her faith. Charlene is a character that you love to dislike (she reminded me of Nellie Olson). Aaron, Timothy’s brother, is a special individual. Hannah is a patient teacher who helps Aaron to learn. She can see the potential in him, and she encourages Aaron. There is a special moment when Timothy makes a realization about Aaron that I find particularly touching. I like how the author captured the time period by having the sheriff and the local doctor share the latest news each day. I especially enjoyed the sheriff’s story (I do not want to say too much and spoil it for you). Hannah’s Courage is a heartfelt Amish story about love, faith, forgiveness, second chances and courage.
I have loved every book by Molly Jebber that I have ever read. This is one of my favorite series. I am very fond of the characters. I love the bakery and can just smell the items from the descriptions. I also love the use of the friendship quilts in each of these stories. Hannah really did learn a few lessons in this story and so did Timothy. One must speak up or you might be left behind. I received a copy of this book from Celebratelit for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
Hannah's Courage by Molly Jebber is an endearing addition to the Amish Charm Bakery series. As a reader with a love for Amish tales and having read the first two books in the series, this book did not disappoint. Hannah and Timothy have been good friends for years but a commitment to marriage was not forthcoming. Would their love for each other endure the changes that are ahead--a conniving interloper and a career move? Would their faith in God be strong enough to overcome the challenges? The characters are likable and realistic, with their strong points and their flaws and foibles. I loved the friendship of the young women at the bakery as they worked together and cared for each other. I also liked the relationship Hannah and Timothy each had with their respective parents. The plot flows quickly with twists and turns that keep the reader's interest. The author has infused the pages with heart-warming emotion and romance. Threaded throughout the book is also a strong faith in God and a belief that He is a God who will give guidance and courage to make the right decisions in life.
I received a complimentary copy of this book via CelebrateLit. A favorable review was not required, and opinions are my own. This review is part of a CelebrateLit blog tour.
Kensington Books publishes mass market paperbacks--those books you can carry with you in a pocket or purse for those times when you have a few minutes to read. These are generally quick reads that don't take a lot of time to finish.
Molly Jebber has written a book published by Kensington that takes place in the early 1900s, a book of Amish fiction. Hannah likes her life just the way it is, until a newcomer to the community attaches herself to Hannah's best friend, Timothy. Hannah is heartbroken that she has waited so long to tell Timothy she's in love with him, and she can't stay in Charm now that Charlene Shetler has attached herself to Timothy.
Hannah always thought she wanted to teach, and when an opening shows up in Mt Hope, she applies for and gets the job. She moves to Mt Hope to finish out the school year and to tutor some of the students throughout the summer. She finds herself homesick and wanting to move back, and she finds that teaching a classroom is not what she really wants to do.
This is a quiet novel, without too much drama, and not a lot of compelling movement in the plot. The characters have depth, but they are all too sweet, with the exception of Charlene. Life among the Amish in the earliest years of the 20th century isn't much different from life now. I wish I could give this book a higher rating, but three stars is all I can do for it. This is the third book in the Charm Bakery series, but there is a set up for a fourth and maybe fifth novel in this series.
My thanks go to Kensington Books and NetGalley.com for providing the galley I read for this review.
The third in The Amish Charm Bakery series yet I believe it can be read as a stand alone. I did. I haven't read the previous two books, in fact this is my first book by the author.
The premise of the story is a good one, however I am not a fan of how it unfolded. The flow was choppy, the dialogue was clunky, the plot points were awkward and many of the characters were unnecessary or wasted. This story went on longer than it needed to without a natural flow. Many of the plot points felt thrown in to create an effect that wasn't quite achieved or add word count. They weren't properly developed, many faded without comment or were rushed to resolution. I felt that the timeline was sketchy to say the least. I was confused sometimes about how much time had passed or should have passed.
I really wanted to like this book because I hate giving bad reviews but I didn't really enjoy this book
Hannah’s Courage by Molly Jebber is a delightfully warm Amish historical novel that will leave you smiling. It is the third book in the Amish Cham Bakery series but can be read as a stand-alone. I enjoyed reconnecting with familiar faces.
There is a wonderful community feel to the book as the Amish bond over food and company. Homes, hearts and businesses are opened to those in need. Strangers receive warm welcomes.
Friendship is important. We all need friends with whom we can talk and trust them to tell us the truth in love.
The characters are realistically drawn and likable. Their interactions are delightful. There are misunderstandings that create tensions in the reader as we long for them to be resolved.
Young adults in the Amish community have strict rules to abide by. This can cause frustrations when the rules are deliberately flaunted.
Teaching is an important vocation. There is a wonderful relationship between a young boy who has been injured mentally and a young adult who invests time and love to teach him. It reminds the reader of the proverb telling us to train a child in the way and he will not depart from it.
The novel is set in 1913 it is a world on the brink of change. The reader hears about the new invention of the motor car which is resisted by some and embraced by others.
I found Hannah’s Courage a positively delightful read. It warmed my heart and made me smile.
I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.
Hannah's Courage is set in 1912. I love reading some historical fiction. Hannah's Courage finds us in Ohio in the most charming bakery. Hannah Lapp loves her life. She is able to bake, and tutor kids, and having fun with her friends. With many of her friends marrying, Hannah finds that her best friend Timothy wants more just being a friends. She isn't sure that she is ready. When another girls finds Timothy attractive, Hannah may have waited too long. Will she find her true way? Is the new girl for real? Hannah must find her true heart and passion before she can hope to find love. I received a copy through Netgalley. A review was not required.
This book was not for me I felt like the book dragged a lot. I felt like the whole book was completely predictable and found it hard to just follow the over all story. The book is a clean read and would be suitable for all ages. I did like Ellie she was pistol and was fun to read about.
Hannah's Courage by Molly Jebber is the third book in the Amish Charm Bakery series, and can easily be read as a standalone. Set in the charming little town of Charm, Ohio, it follows Hannah, who works at Charm Bakery with her friends, Ellie, Magdalena, Maryann, and Rachel. Hannah is a likable character. She's kind, caring, and always ready to help anyone in need. She doesn't like change and is content with her life just the way it is, working at the bakery and spending time with her friends and family. She loves and cares deeply for Timothy and would love to be his wife, just not yet. When Hannah finally feels ready to grow closer to Timothy, she is heartbroken to discover that Timothy has moved on and is now courting Charlene, a pretty girl who has just moved to town. Hannah knows that it's her fault that Timothy got tired of waiting around for her, so with the support of her friends and family and her faith in God, she decides to move on with her life. But when Hannah learns that Charlene is not who she appears to be, will she tell Timothy the truth? And will she ever find the courage to tell him that she's in love with him?
Hannah's Courage is a heartwarming historical Amish romance about love, faith, and courage. Readers will fall in love with the wonderful cast of characters and the quaint little town of Charm, Ohio. The author's writing style makes you feel like you're right there in Charm, working at the bakery with the girls, and you could almost smell all the delicious pastries being whipped up in the kitchen. It was easy to root for Hannah and Timothy, they were both relatable characters, dealing with real issues. I could definitely relate to Hannah's fear of change and really felt for her when she realized that she waited too long to share her feelings with Timothy. And I really felt for Timothy when he resigned himself to the fact that Hannah might never love him, and that his hope of starting a life with her might never coming true. I really admired Hannah's faith in God and enjoyed her friendship with the girls. This is a wonderful story with a lovely message woven into it. I will definitely be reading future books in this series.
I received an ARC from Kensington Books through NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Let me start off that just because I have this book 3 stars does not mean it is terrible. It is a good read but I felt like it should be marketed as a young adult series. I personally feel it reads very simply and it distracts from the story.
I have read all three books in the series and will continue to read more if there are to be more. The storyline is interesting and I am invested in the characters.
As with the other two, I feel things move very quickly and everything is resolved very easily. This series is a great book to read and relax. It is a clean romance safe for the teenager in your life.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher, Kensington, through NetGalley. Any and all opinions expressed in the above review are entirely my own.
Thanks go to the publisher and Net-Galley for the chance to read and review Hannah’s Courage by Molly Jebber in advance of publication. My opinions are my own and are not influenced in any way.
Hannah’s Courage is a lovely Amish fiction novel with a heart felt love story. I enjoyed Ms. Jebber’s writing style a great deal. The plot is somewhat of a love triangle, and while that isn’t my favorite troupe, this one is done extremely well. The pacing is steady and smooth, perfect for this Amish tale.
Hannah Lapp’s character is a delight. She has a carefree side and not quite ready to settle down to being a wife and mother yet. Even though she cares for Timothy and wants to be his frau eventually, just not yet. When that proves to be an error in her judgement, I could feel her confusion when her boyfriend seems to be turning to another.
Timothy is a perfect Amish hero. He’s humble and modest, and unsure of what he should do when a new Amish young woman pursues him. Should he move forward and see if he can have a good marriage or cling to what seems hopeless in regard to Hannah? My heart hurt when he believes any chance of having a life with Hannah seems hopeless.
The romance between Hannah and Timothy appears in the beginning to be beyond their reach. I felt Hannah’s pain when she believes she’s lost her chance to become his fraa. I truly wanted them to find a way back to each other.
I always enjoy historical fiction, and Hannah’s Courage is set in 1912. Ms. Jebber easily paints the times and mannerisms of that time. While she describes the setting, she does it in a way that flows with the story.
If you enjoy historical fiction with a strong romantic element, then you will love Hannah’s Courage. In fact, I liked it so much I’ve downloaded the first two books in this series. Happy reading!
Hannah had a great job in the bakery, and although she loved Timothy she wasn't ready to settle down just yet. When she finally decides to let him know she is ready another girl steps up to try to win him. Written at the turn of the 20th century, so although Amish the people are not as different as they are today. A sweet romance, and although part of a series (which I have read) this could be read alone. Highly recommend this book and author.
Hannah's Courage is the third installment from Molly Jebber’s Amish Charm Bakery series. I have read the other books in the and enjoyed every one of them and I think this one is my favorite of the three. I do recommend that readers should probably should start at the beginning of the series with book one, Liza's Second Chance. I found this story to be one that warmed my heart and gave me a reminder of what faith, hope and inspiration can do. I loved Hannah from the start and felt a connection to her. There were a few twists to the story that kept me want to keep reading. I had the whole book read in just a few short hours.
Hannah’s Courage is getting five stars from me. I highly recommend this book, as well as, the rest of the Amish Charm Bakery series. Readers who love clean Amish fiction will enjoy this one.
I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
Molly Jebber has written another delightful heartwarming story that readers will enjoy. The title for this book was a perfect match for the story found within. I loved reading Hannah’s Courage and the growth she found with her courage. She took a leap of faith after waiting to long in giving Timothy an answer about her love for him when she accepted a teaching job in Mt. Hope. Hannah knew she would miss all her wonderful friends at the Amish Charm Bakery where she enjoyed baking and taking care of the books. I love the characters in the Amish Charm Bakery series, except for the conniving Charlene that appeared in this story; however, time does expose truth. The beauty of Jebber’s writing shone through with God’s love, forgiveness, grace, mercy and romance. There was plenty of action, unexpected events with some answers that only God could have orchestrated for the loved characters.
Jebber is one of my favorite authors with her historical Amish fiction and including her original series theme of a pocket quilt with a letter for a loved one in each book. I look forward to reading more astonishing books by this author. I would like to see a story about Rachael, Maryann and Magdalena that work at the Amish Charm Bakery, too.
I received a complimentary e-book from NetGalley and the Kensington Publishers for the tour with Celebrate Lit.
This is a new to me author and all I can say is how have I never heard of Molly Jebber before? Hannah's Courage is a wonderful read. I loved Hannah. I also loved that we saw her character growth; she went from hating change to making several changes. There were a couple twists that I really enjoyed. I also really liked Timothy. He over-reacted a little bit on a couple situations, but those were his insecurities talking and Hannah was able to convince him otherwise. I liked many of the characters. I discovered this was book #3 in this series, but the author does a great job of making this a standalone story. However, I can't wait to read the others. This author is now on my must read list. Thank you to Netgalley and Kensington for the ARC. All opinions expressed are my own.
