Shadow Flight is the 5th book in the Shadow Riders series by Christine Feehan. I found the first four books to be highly engaging between the character relationships and the storylines. For some reason I did not have that with Shadow Flight. The characters were developed well and I understood their complex relationship. I just wasn't that drawn to this two particular characters in the series.

I have been waiting for Nicoletta and Taviano's story. Taviano has known for some time that his shadow had tangled with Nicoletta's. He tortured them both as he was respectable and waited for her to become of age. I just knew her past was going to catch up to her though. Her life had changed so drastically when the Ferraros saved her, there was no way she was going to get trapped by the same people she was meant to be sold to so long ago.

Even though Nicoletta and Taviano as a couple was pretty much established from the start, Taviano had to do a lot to earn Nicoletta's trust. She went through a lot before she was whisked away and she needs to work through it.

A lot comes to light in Shadow Flight, not only do we have some surprises about Nicoletta but there is some disturbing news regarding Shadow Riders and Taviano's mother.

I'm getting engrossed in this series. The Riders have their special abilities and all that those skills involve, but the whole family dynamic just pulls you in. I'm eagerly awaiting the next installment of this series!

One of the best things about an anticipated story is when they deliver the goods and Shadow Flight did that in spades. Taviano Ferraro and Nicoletta Gomez have been destined to be a couple ever since he saved her and brought her into the fold of the Ferraro Family. She was still a teen and Taviano had to wait until she was older before he made his intentions known. He’s been there for her from day 1 and his attention has been on her recovery. Nicoletta had to not only grow up, but she had to recover from the physical and sexual abuse she experienced at the hands of family and a brutal man. What the author did very well is create a situation in which both hero and heroine are forced to depend on one another and how they made it work.

I loved this story for many reasons but the most important is that it developed the characters and they were such a good match for one another. I couldn’t ask for a better hero in Taviano because he was so devoted to Nicoletta and his patience and understanding went above and beyond. He was in it for the long run. Nicoletta was not a shrinking violet herself and extended the courtesy to Taviano to be honest with him and to communicate what she is feeling. Another reason the story was so good is that it focused on the family the Ferraro’s have created for themselves and how they love and support one another. Stefano, the oldest and head of the family, takes his role seriously and it shows in how he treats both Taviano and Nicoletta. I loved how the author brought in each of the brothers, sister and cousins, to exact justice for Nicoletta in order for her to be free to live her life. Overall, this story was exceptional and the author has outdone herself with Shadow Flight.

I normally love Christine Feehan books but I feel these books are way to similar to each other and a lot of repeated content so I had a rough time finishing the book. It just feels like fee Han has kinda fallen into a grove and is having a hard time getting new content.

Shadow Flight is the 5th book in the Shadow Riders series. This book follows Nicoletta Gomez, a teenager who was brutalized, and Taviano Ferraro, a supernatural assassin. Nicoletta's past is catching up to her and she just wants to seduce Taviano. Taviano only wants to keep Nicoletta safe, even from himself.

Fast read. Was enjoyable. Forgettable. Predictable. A solid three stars being a fast enjoyable read. Nothing stood out in the book good or bad.

Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley Publishing Group for an ARC. This is an honest review.

The final Ferraro brother has known that Nicoletta was his. He was just waiting for the right time to claim her. The next book in the shadow rider series is a thrilling ride. This is a great conclusion to Nicoletta’s journey and a must read for fans of the series.

Nicoletta was rescued from her uncles and being immersed in a sex trafficking ring at an early age. Now her worst nightmare has found her. To prove her worth to herself, she must be involved in bringing them down, the one thing Taviano is forbidden to do, he must do to give Nicoletta what she needs to face the future. Taviano knew Nicoletta was the one for him but he will have to risk everything to prove himself to Nicoletta.

We have watched Nicoletta grow up with her adoptive parents throughout the series. Now it's her chance to find love. Will the vengeful, young girl who kept lashing out, realize she is worth love?

The Shadow Riders have followed the Ferraro family as they traverse the razor’s edge of the shadow world being the judge, jury, and executioner to the true evils of the world. Shadow Flight is a heated, dark, and dramatic read, facing many hot buttons topics for lots of readers. This book is not for the light-hearted reader. That being said, Feehan doesn’t slack off on the explosive chemistry, the wounded hearted characters and the devotion of family.

I received this ARC copy of Shadow Flight from Berkley Publishing Group. This is my honest and voluntary review. Shadow Flight is set for publication May 5, 2020.

We first meet Nicoletta in Book 1 of the series. The Ferraro family rescue her from a horrible situation and find her adoptive parents in their neighborhood. That way they can watch over her. Now we’re in Book 5 and she’s all grown up, but still struggles daily with the horrors of her past.

Taviano, the youngest Ferraro has had a soft spot for Nicoletta ever since her rescue. When evil comes for Nicoletta again, Taviano and the rest of the Ferraros circle the wagons.

I love reading about the Ferraros and I always enjoy revisiting the series. Taviano is so protective and patient with Nicoletta. I thought they paired well together. Nicoletta has suffered so much but she refuses to give up. Her quiet strength and core of steal help her fight her demons and hold her own against Taviano’s fierce stubbornness.

I’m hoping against hope that Emmanuelle’s book is next! She’s the only sister and last of the Ferraros to pair up and her book should be a doozy! She’s in love with the nephew of an enemy family. Will she follow her heart or her duty to the family? We need to know!

I enjoyed the book and I’m looking forward to the next one.

4.5 Hearts Another incredible book from Christine Feehan. Ms Feehan has a way of writing that makes you want to climb into the story and meet the characters in person. In this case Nicoletta needed a hug and I just wanted to jump in and do it. Don’t get me wrong Nicoletta is STRONG! She has been through hell and every woman’s worst nightmare but not only has she come out of it but she has come out of it with strength that I found palpable.

Taviano is just so sweet. Ok maybe not sweet but you just got to love a guy who is a diamond in the rough and realizes that Nicoletta needs time. And is willing to give her all the time she needs. That is until time is up and she is in danger again.

I adore Christine Feehan. I have never been disappointed in a book and this is no exception. This is the 5th in the book and while it can be a stand alone I am not sure why anyone wouldn’t want to devour any book Feehan writes.

HJ TOP PICK!!

In Shadow Flight (Shadow Riders #5) by Christine Feehan, Nicoletta Gomez was thrown into the Ferraro family at the lowest point in her life. A teenager with years of abuse clouding her head and damaging her self-worth, they took her under their collective wing to keep her safe and cared for. But it is Taviano Ferraro who captivates Nicoletta. Her savior, literally, having been one of the family members to come to her rescue, he has been in her corner from the start. As she learns more about the supposed crime family, Nicoletta knows there is something more to the Ferraros than meets the eye. And when she and her friends are suddenly in danger, Taviano confirms her thoughts when she finds out they are shadow riders. Nicoletta is soon entangled in the hunt for criminals from her past as well as falling more and more for Taviano. But could it work between them? She's as broken as a woman can get, yet somehow he makes her want to try.

Taviano understands the demons that torment Nicoletta all too well. So it seems fitting that he--and his beloved family--will be doling out justice on her behalf, whether she ever finds out or not. He'd prefer to keep her safe and let her experience more of the good things life has to offer before bringing her further into his world and pursuing a relationship with Nicoletta. Because that part is inevitable. Taviano *will* capture her heart and show her what true love is. He knows it will be an uphill battle. His tesoro has been badly hurt in the past. But between the loving care his siblings show Nicoletta and the fact that he would move heaven and earth for her, Taviano is hopefully they will both get the future of their dreams. One step at a time.

Even after reading dozens of her books, it's still an absolute joy getting lost in the worlds Christine Feehan creates. Shadow Flight had all of the thrilling action and intriguing family dynamics I love from the Shadow Riders series, but it was the touching, achingly tender romance between two broken souls that utterly stole my heart.

"When you're there in that dark place where it feels like a thousand demons are tearing you apart, know I'm there with you. Always, tesoro, because you are my treasure and my only."

If I sound like I'm fangirling about Shadow Flight, I apologize in advance. But oh. My. Word. What an epic installment in the series. I've loved each couple's journey so far (and I'm sure I will love future couples of course) but there was something oh so very special about Taviano and Nicoletta together. I will mention two things right away, though. First, you can read this as a standalone if you can tolerate some spoilers from previous books and with "meeting" a huge cast of characters. Second, this dealt with some pretty heavy subjects so parts of it might be disturbing for readers when a few of the character's memories of abuse are recalled.

I have to tread lightly here so I don't give away too much. I can say that Feehan wove together a lot of POVs from the majority of the Ferraro family throughout the book which I think added depth to the storytelling. It also continued the narrative of the changes going on within the family and brought in some other Ferraros to aid in their hunt for the bad guys. Speaking of which, there was a lot of action with some incredible fight scenes I think fans will enjoy that truly showed off the skills of each shadow rider.

This was mostly Nicoletta and Taviano's story, though. And what an amazing, courageous team they made. If you've read previous books then you know a good chunk of what Nicoletta endured in her mid-teens but there were still some surprises with her backstory--and especially with Taviano's past. Oh boy, will fans be angry on his behalf. But with everything he went through, it makes me understand his reactions now with how he treated Nicoletta when she was first brought into their family's protection. But there was no denying that Taviano and Nicoletta were just *so* right for each other. I think readers will be floored with the romance that blossomed and the directions it took. Definitely sigh-worthy.

Shadow Flight was a suspenseful, *powerful* new novel that took the Shadow Riders series to all new heights. From exploring the importance of family bonds to good vs. evil to the strength of love healing emotional wounds, Christine Feehan gave her readers a story to cherish.

Strength, love and family…

I didn’t know whether to lock the doors and dive right in or savor Nicoletta and Taviano’s story one chapter bite at a time. Of course, you know which way I went!

Haunted by shame and a feeling of powerlessness, Nicoletta, after a rocky start with her new family, was devoted to the future. To getting stronger, mentally and physically, able take care of herself and those she loved. And that included Taviano... From the moment they met, he knew she was his one. Their road was rocky but now was their time and it was all I’d hoped it could be. Fighting old demons didn’t stop them from finally acting on their feelings. Instead it gave them an opportunity to show their love and support for each other and their family because family was important to them both.

I love this author’s stories of devotion, family and good vs evil. They don’t gloss over the hardships or the sometimes gritty bumps in the road. Instead, they embrace them as part of life and allow the characters to live them, the chance to overcome and become more… So true of Nicoletta, who instead of being a victim, fought for her strength and her ability to stand with Taviano as an equal. Their story was steamy and suspenseful, full of heart-touching (and funny!) camaraderie and family moments. Everyone has a moment to shine as brothers, sisters, cousins, spouses all want a part of the drama played out. If I needed a scorecard to keep straight newly introduced relatives, well, I hope that means even more happily ever after's to come. Another great read!

Shadow Flight is the fifth installment in romance phenom Christine Feehan’s Ferraro crime family series. The series follows the enigmatic Chicago-based Ferraro family. Perceived mobsters, the tight-knit members are actual righteous vigilantes, protecting the vulnerable and exacting justice. Select members of the family have the supernatural ability to “ride the shadows”, essentially dissolving in darkness to travel swiftly and furtively.

Book five is Taviano and Nicoletta’s story. Followers of the series will recall Nicoletta was rescued from her deranged step-uncles as a teenager and brought into the Ferraro family fold. Throughout the series Taviano has watched over Nicoletta as she worked to heal her scarred psyche. In Shadow Flight Nicoletta has grown into an accomplished, brave fighter ready to stake her claim on Taviano, the youngest Ferraro brother.

This installment has all the tried and true hallmarks of the series; high drama, loads of action, abundant steamy sex, and a happily ever after. Taviano and Nicoletta are likable enough and the story sufficiently entertaining. I like this series but worry it’s run its course. The books all follow a similar arc, and Shadow Flight didn’t have the same level of suspense present in some of the other books. The Ferraros can’t fail and justice is always served.

I hope Emmanuelle, the sole Ferraro sister, has a book on the horizon. Her story has been woven through those of her brothers, but I think it is time her whole story is told. The drama surrounding her romantic life is intriguing and perfect for the series. I sense Feehan has been laying the foundation of what could be one of the best Shadow Rider installments.

In this installment of the Shadow Riders series, we’re introduced to Nicoletta Gomez and Taviano Ferraro’s romance. We were introduced to the two in book one when Taviano and others rescued Nicoletta from her uncles and the possibility of being sold into a sex trafficking ring. Now she’s older, and more comfortable in her skin. She’s had a couple of years of being part of the “family”, she’s had self defense training and gotten her partying out of her system. Now though, a weekend away with friends, with Taviano as bodyguard, has placed her back into a precarious position. The same man she was rescued from has found her and wants her back. But, there’s something different about this book.
Yes, she’s an abuse victim that’s being protected by the mafia. But she’s now stronger and wiser, able to protect herself and no longer a helpless victim. There’s something more though. The Ferraro’s aren’t your typical mafia family, they have a secret. They can travel through shadows to dispel their brand of justice. That’s how they rescued Nicoletta in book 1. After they were alerted to her case, they used the shadows to travel to her, kill her abusers, and get her to safety. Nicoletta doesn’t really remember this, until after the man who wants her sends others to get her and bring her back. Taviano and Nicoletta use the shadows to not only get away, but to protect her friends and deal with the men out to get her.
This book focuses on their relationship and the fact that Nicoletta is also a “shadow rider”. Something no one in the family knew. She and Taviano were destined to be together and the story explains not only how they travel, but also what happens if they don’t stay together after their shadows meld.
It’s an interesting story, lots of action, paranormal facets, and of course romance. This book just wasn’t for me though. With great writing and characters, I have to give it 4 stars, but this just wasn’t something that stuck with me and I had trouble finishing the book. I had to keep putting it down and walking away. Something that’s pretty unusual for me.
If you’re a fan of paranormal romance with lots of peril, check out the Shadow Rider series.

For readers of the Shadow Rider series, this is Tavianno and Nicoletta's story. It has been a long time coming and it does not disappoint. These two characters were made for each other, and it was very satisfying to read them finally get their happily ever after...of course there are twist and turns before we get to that satisfying end. Christine Feehan never disappoints in her books, the bad guys are seriously bad, brutal and sometimes difficult to read about, but thanks to the Shadow Riders ... justice is served....the characters you love always manage to overcome the obstacles they face to persevere and continue....they are always well thought out by the author and very interesting, love the character development that always carries on through all her books in a specific series.
I actually read this book twice before writing this review because I treasure all things Christine Feehan writes and I hated to see the book end. Now we have to try and be patient and wait for the next book by this fantastic author!
Thank You to NetGalley and to the publisher for this amazing read!

This is a nice addition to the Shadow Riders series. Christine Feehan fans will really enjoy this next visit with the Ferraro family as the siblings and their extended family continue to meet and find their true love, the ONE they are supposed to be with. As always, there are teasers for future stories so there is much more to look forward to.

When we first meet Nicoletta in Shadow Rider, she had been rescued by the Ferraro brothers from her abusive step-uncles in New York. Even though she was broken and didn’t trust anyone, Nicoletta let Amo and Lucia, a couple mourning the loss of their son, take care of her in Chicago where Ferraro’s home is located. Ever since, Nicoletta had been somewhat rebellious and difficult to handle, especially under Taviano’s watchful eye.

Now older, Nicoletta is trying to move on from her past and give the concept of friends an opportunity. This leads Nicoletta to invite some friends to California for a concert to which they have VIP tickets, hotel reservations and a private plane all thanks to her connections to the Ferraros. Taviano accompanies the girls on their trip, but Nicoletta and him can’t deny the tension and sparks between them anymore. At the concert, Nicoletta and her friends are having fun when men from Nicoletta’s past see her and immediately alert Benito Valdez, the man her step-uncles were going to give her to, chasing them and in the process taking one of the girls. Nicoletta’s past has finally caught up to her and Taviano won’t let anyone take her away from him.

I have been waiting for their story for so long! Feehan has been building up their chemistry for the past four books in the series and we finally get to know more about Nicoletta’s background as a potential elite shadow rider, due to her family ancestry, and Taviano’s years of training abroad. We do learn that she has Archambault blood and that that family is the only one allowed to kill other riders that break the rules, which gives her the potential of being a first class shadow rider if she trains properly :).

Nicoletta has to face her past when Benito Valdez finds out she’s alive and in Chicago making him think he can finally have her for himself, but he is unaware that she is under the protection of the Ferraro family. Benito is the leader of the Demons, New York’s bloodiest gang, and has sent his brothers and men to get Nicoletta back. As a rule, a shadow rider can’t tell anyone of their existence unless they are a spouse, which takes Taviano and Nicoletta to marry in order to fully protect her and show her his world.

Nicoletta is still worried about how her past can affect her relationship with Taviano, but at the same time Taviano has secrets of his own that may strain his relationship not only with her but with his family as well. It was interesting to see how these two navigated their new life together, trusted and helped each other overcome traumatic events from their past. Unlike Taviano, Nicoletta had help from people that cared for her which in return made her understand and know what to do to help him.

There is new information shared by the matriarch of the Ferraro family that may change the riders way of life which I hope we go more into in the next book. It’ll be interesting to see how this affects Nicoletta’s training and the new riders. I am also very excited and curious about the next book. Next up is Emmanuelle, the youngest of the Ferraro riders with her Romeo and Juliet love story. This is another book I’ve been waiting for since Shadow Rider 🙂

The death count in this book was pretty high. I’m trying to remember if there’s another book with so many dead bodies. I keep forgetting this series isn’t just romance.

With Benito Valdez out of the way, new information about the riders and shadows, I’m curious to know in which direction Feehan will take her shadow riders. So many new characters have been introduced, amongst them a whole family, the California branch of the Ferraros, and a possible connection to another of Feehan’s book series! I need to catch up on some of her books, but meanwhile, if you’re a fan of Feehan, I recommend you read Shadow Flight and join me in the waiting for Emme’s culminating story.

SHADOW FLIGHT is the fifth instalment in Christine Feehan’s contemporary, adult. SHADOW RIDERS erotic, paranormal romance series focusing on the Ferraro family. This is Taviano Ferraro and Nicoletta Gomez’ story line. SHADOW FLIGHT can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

SOME BACKGROUND: The Shadow Rider male must find his mate –a woman who is capable of riding the shadows-or at the very least with the ability to bear children with the shadow-riding gene. Within the family, the Ferraro siblings are tasked with finding a mate, fated by DNA, who is capable of continuing the family line. People with the ability to ride the shadows are few and far between, and future generations are at risk if no mates are found with the shadow-riding gene. The Ferraro’s are also part of the Chicago Underworld-a crime family linked to both legal and criminal activity.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be some triggers for more sensitive readers. Nicoletta was first introduced to the readers in book one Shadow Rider.

Told from several third person perspectives including Tatiana and Nicoletta, and Ricco and Mariko (Shadow Reaper #2) SHADOW FLIGHT focuses on the building relationship between soon to be twenty-one year old Nicoletta Gomez and Taviano Ferraro. Years earlier, following the death of her parents, Nicoletta found herself in the custody of her step-uncles, who ritually raped and abused our heroine. At the age of eighteen, Nicoletta was rescued by the Ferraro family, and placed in the hands of a loving foster family, where she began to act out against the people in charge. Fast forward to present day wherein, a now almost twenty-one year old Nicoletta, once again, finds herself struggling to survive when her past, in the guise of Benito Valdez, the leader of the gang who call themselves the Demons, specializing in human sexual trafficking, sets a plan into motion to reclaim our heroine, as his personal $ex toy. What ensues is the quick building relationship and romance between Nicoletta and Taviano, and the potential fall-out as the Demons come searching for Nicoletta Gomez, and Taviano’s actions and claiming of Nicoletta are called into question by the family leadership.

Taviano Ferrera has known Nicoletta Gomez to be his mate from the moment of her rescue by the Ferraro family, three years earlier. With their shadows entwined, and continually tightening with each encounter, Taviano knew it was only a matter of time before he claimed Nicoletta as his own but trying to outrun Benito’s men found Taviano pulling Nicoletta into the shadow world, a world she knew very little about, but had begun to experience a few times on her own. Using the shadows to travel causes immense pain and anguish for those not ready and untrained in the world, and for this reason, Taviano is called to task for exposing Nicoletta to potential harm, and revealing the truth about the world in which they lived.

Meanwhile, matriarch Eloisa Ferraro continues to cause problems for the Ferraro family with her ongoing hatred of her sons’ mates. The vitriol and anger directed at the females, who will produce the much needed heirs to the world of the shadows, is called into question as Eloisa struggles with her sons’ choices, and the loss of her power as the Queen of the Chicago Underworld. Secrets will be revealed that will affect everyone involved.

The relationship between Taviano and Nicoletta began as a rescue but Taviano quickly discovered that Nicoletta was a shadow rider when their shadows entwined. Refusing to claim his underage mate, Taviano watched from the sidelines as Nicoletta acted out, all the while, continuing to protect the woman with whom he would fall in love. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

If you are a fan of Christine Feehan, you will notice the many similarities between Taviano and Nicoletta, and Dimitri and Skylar (Dark/Carpathian). Both females had been raped and abused; the heroes bide their time before claiming their under-aged mates; and their treatment of their mate is gentle and loving.

Once again, there is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including all of the Ferraro siblings, their mates, their mother Eloisa Ferraro, numerous cousins from all over the world, as well as Nicoletta’s foster parents Lucia and Amo. The shear number of members of the Demons is overwhelming- naming every member about to face his death was unnecessary and time consuming.

I did have a couple of other issues including the authors need to reveal Taviano’s continuing relationship with other women knowing Nicoletta was his mate-apparently just knowing someone is your mate does not guarantee monogamy or faithfulness in the world of the Shadow Riders ;and Ricco and Mariko’s need to perform Shibari sexual rope play, on the roof of a diner, immediately before and after killing several members of the Demos gang-although the author explains the overwhelming sexual need and excitement over the kill, but on the roof of a dirty diner, in the middle of a killing field, is questionable on so many levels but I suspect added to the story for the titillation factor ;)

SHADOW FLIGHT is a story of family and blood, obsession and determination; retribution, murder and revenge. The slow building premise will captivate your attention; the characters are numerous, colorful and energetic; the romance is seductive and impassioned. If you are a fan of Christine Feehan, sit back and enjoy the world of the Shadow Rider.
