SHADOW FLIGHT is a surprise-filled thrill ride that has some unexpected twists and turns (actually some very realistic twists and turns) and a couple who certainly deserves their happily ever after. I really cannot wait to see where Ms. Feehan takes her readers and the Ferraro family next!

Big Shadow Rider fan right here! I love this high-octane world Christine Feehan has created. Fans of the series have been anticipating SHADOW FLIGHT since book one when Nicoletta was rescued and we saw the instant connection between her and Taviano. Readers have seen Nicoletta and Taviano collide in fights and I, for one, was dying for them to get the happily ever after they so richly deserved.
The whole series is dark and follows a mafia-like family of assassins who can ride shadows and perform justified killings. Nicoletta was identified as a shadow rider and it is one of the reasons the Ferraro family worked so hard to protect her. She started the series as a scared and traumatized girl, readers got to see her transform into a strong and confident woman. Taviano sees this too and decides to finally make his move to become more than a friend to Nicoletta.
The romance between Taviano and Nicoletta is gentle and very slow burn for a Feehan novel. Taviano is extra careful with Nicoletta and lets her lead the physical aspects of their relationship. The backstory we learned about Taviano explains why he is one of the more beta Feehan heroes we have seen (although, a Feehan beta hero is still pretty darn alpha). I adored how supportive he is of Nicoletta’s goals. It made me all swoony!
SHADOW FLIGHT was definitely a bridge book to the next part of the series. Many, many Ferraro cousins are introduced. I can almost see the future stories Ms. Feehan is planning (which is excellent because I am obsessed with this series). The bridge parts, while important, made the romance take a bit of a back seat. I also don’t think this book would be a good one to start with because much of Nicoletta and Taviano’s backstory is explained in previous books.
Overall, there is a reason Christine Feehan is a titan of the paranormal romance industry. If you’re looking for a dark, gritty romance with mafia vibes, this series is for you!

Shadow Flight is the story fans of the Shadow series have been waiting for: Taviano and Nicoletta! These two have been dancing around each other for years, but danger has come seeking Nicoletta and Taviano is done waiting.
First, while you don't have to have read the previous books, the story has lots of previous characters, and Nicoletta has a very important back story. Shadow Flight gives you the information you need to be able to understand the story, but you might be a bit confused with all the characters and aforementioned events. Also, this series is fantastic, so you should read them all anyway! We have seen both Nicoletta and Taviano grow up over the course of the previous stories (the other Ferraro brothers) and that makes this story even more special!
Nicoletta's life is heartbreaking. What she went through was traumatic, and she is still not recovered. Pining for Taviano has become her constant companion. I really loved how Feehan made Nicoletta strong, yet still showed how she was struggling and how hard she had to work have the strength she has now. Nicoletta struggles with shame, disgust, self loathing, and more but still manages to work on improving herself. She studies everything, she trains with the Ferraro's, and she helps everyone she can. Its impossible not to love this girl.
Taviano is the youngest of his brothers and he knew the moment he met Nicoletta she was his soulmate. However, she was a terrified teenager. Waiting for Nicoletta to mature and get better was incredibly tough for him, but he throws that out the window when Nicoletta is in danger. In Shadow Flight, she is 20 (almost 21) at this point, so its not a creep factor for me. Taviano has spent the years learning how to help Nicoletta, even though she had no idea. He is so devoted and attune to her it is very swoon worthy.
Shadow Flight combines elements of paranormal romance, a touch of darkness, a close knit family, and deep love to create a story that will stick with you long after you finish.
I have not been able to read a Shadow Riders book since Stefano and Franchesca, who brought me into this series. Being introduced to the inner selves of Nicoletta and Taviano brought me many details I was missing when I finished the first book and a renewed love for the Ferraro family.
I am a huge supporter of what they do as their “family business” and the care and protection they offer everyone they are close to. Just being involved in something as horrific as Nicoletta was, then to find a family bring her in and act as an actual family to her was extremely emotionally supportive.
Slight spoilers if you have not read the book yet…
But, the love and respect Tavino showers on Nicoletta as they grow close as well as trusting her with his deep, dark secret was very well emoted.
I have my own personal reader-issues with the repetitiveness in Ms Feehan’s books, along with the same personal trauma affecting all her characters. Otherwise it was excellently written as always. The characters had enough depth to where I was satisfied reading about them, but not overly bored trying to keep things straight from their past.
Been waiting for Taviano and Nicoletta's story. Nicoletta has come a long way from where she started in book one. Taviano has been there from her from the beginning and now it's their time. Now the man who originally hurt her is back. She's lived with some peace because he didn't know where she was or if she was alive when she disappeared several years ago. Now it's time to finish it. I really enjoyed watching this couples relationship develop. Unfortunately this book had a lot of filler and then a revisit with one of the couple from a previous book. Not enough conflict with the bad guy.I still enjoyed the book but there wasn't really a lot of story given the length of the book. Nicoletta definitely is a grown women who comes into her own in this story and Taviano is the man who supports her 100%. Interested to see the rest of this series.

KEEP 'EM COMING, MS. FEEHAN! CAN'T GET ENOUGH SHADOW RIDERS!
Ferraro brother Taviano gets his HEA in this fifth installment of Ms. Feehan's thrilling Shadow Riders series, in which a Chicago crime family of paranormally gifted antiheroes takes the law into their own hands to rid the world of criminals unchecked by the justice system.
Taviano has had a tumultuous relationship with Nicoletta Gomez, ever since he rescued her from a brutal fate at the hands of evil men. He has struggled to bide his time as she reaches the age of maturity, all the while knowing that she is meant to be his. When fate again conspires against them, spurred on by the interference of others and the return of a past which Taviano has made every effort to sublimate, he and Nicoletta must choose to fight for a shared future or give up their one chance at happiness.
While this story did not have the intense emotional punch for me which the previous four novels did, it is rewarding to see the couple find the path to each other. Especially enjoyable is the way the author allows Taviano and Nicoletta to communicate with each other, openly and honestly -- nice to see when, so often in romance fiction, the entirety of the conflict challenging a couple is attributed to coincidental and unconvincing miscommunication. Ms. Feehan does not take the easy way out here; she chooses to allow her characters to be intelligent and earnest in their effort to find the right words at the right time. All couples should do so well, inside and outside novels!
The sensitive descriptions of the protagonists' PTSD issues and the fine dialogue raise this read to 4 stars; hopefully future installment in the series will see a return to the emotional and action-rich impact of the first book. There are high expectations for the story of Ferraro sister Emmie, whose star-crossed history with rival crime family heir Val Saldi has the potential to be the most moving and explosive story of the series. CAN’T WAIT for that one!
So, in short, please keep 'em coming, Ms. Feehan! Can't get enough of the Shadow Riders!

3,5 Stars
I am a big Christine Feehan fan and particularly of this series however, this book did not quite meet my expectations. Don’t get me wrong, I still loved this book, especially as I have been eagerly awaiting Taviano and Nicoletta’s story since we were first introduced to her character, but it just didn’t grip me as much as previous books in this series have.
The book and particularly the ending were both a bit anticlimactic. The book starts off with a bang, definitely a rush, but then kind of sizzles. There just wasn’t as much suspense or anticipation, to me, as there have been in previous books.
Even so, I am still astounded by Christine Feehan’s skillful and imaginative writing and steamy love scenes. I loved finally getting to see Taviano and Nicoletta together and the fact their relationship has slowly been developing all these years so in their book there was already a foundation. As a result, we get to see their relationship grow and depend more so than if they were just starting out in the book.
If you’re a fan of Christine Feehan and particularly her Shadow Riders series, I think you will enjoy this book.
I am a newbie to Christine Feehan and haven't read any of the previous books in this series. I was immediately pulled into the story because the action and tension ramps up right out the gate. I appreciate to fast moving plot so much! While it was fine to jump into the series mid way, I do think that I would have had a deeper connection to the story and the relationships between the family members if I had more of the background.
I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked Shadow Flight. It was fast and engaging and the relationship between Nicholetta and Taviano was sweet. Thank you, Berkley, for letting me meet this family!
I really enjoyed reading this book! I've been waiting for Nicoletta and Tavino to get together since they were introduced in book 1. And so have they, and it was so great to read about them! They both had troubled pasts, learning about Taviano's was pretty heartbreaking.
There's this one moment, when Taviano and Nicoletta are having a conversation about his mom, and he mentions his brothers falling in love. And I'm like, add yourself to the list, dude, she's feeling insecure about this relationship! Sure, you've had these feelings for her for a long time, but it's not like they were public knowledge like his brothers! Aaaah!
My feelings for Elosia teetered back and forth. On one hand, we learn of some pretty horrific things that she's done, to her family. On the other, we learn the reason why for some but not all of it, and it's a pretty big reason. Almost forgivable, except that she didn't do anything to count it until spurred into it. I'm so conflicted!
The later half of this book, was little groups of Ferraro's taking out a group of bad guys, going to Taviano and Nicoletta, and then repeat. So that was fun to read, seeing what all these others were doing to help protect the family, and still staying centered with Taviano and Nicoletta!
This book was a fantastic read, and I can't wait for the next!
Christine Feehan is still the reigning queen of paranormal romance! Her Shadow series is a must read with characters that you will fall in love with.
If you've been following Christine Feehan's Shadow Riders series, you've been waiting for this book since the beginning. Taviano and Nicoletta have been circling each other since book one and this is their story. Taviano has been waiting for Nicoletta to grow up, and to heal enough from the traumatic abuse she suffered before he could make her his. When the gang that had her finds her again, Taviano has to step up not only his plans to marry Nicoletta, but also his plans to tell her about shadow riders. Nicoletta might think at first that Taviano is marrying her for reasons other than love, but he plans to work hard to set her straight on that count!
This was a tough story because both Nicoletta and Taviano have suffered terrible things in their pasts, and are still learning how to cope with what was done. Trauma shadows their pasts and neither believed they deserved (or would get) someone who would or could love them unconditionally. But they are a perfect fit. The story itself dragged a bit, and I thought was a bit anticlimactic, but it gives new readers especially a view of the world the Ferraro family lives in. It seemed a bit unbalanced that we read chapters detailing each of the gangs coming to Chicago and how (spoiler) they get killed, but then the main guy gets about a paragraph- almost like he'd been forgotten until the last second. There was a lot of the repetition I expect in one of Feehan's books, which I admit meant there were sections I skimmed because I just can't read the exact same thing ten times. At some point, you have to assume the readers got the idea of how the Ferraros were trained, why certain things happen, etc. and stop repeating it every few pages. But the story between Taviano and Nicoletta was good- I loved how patient they are with each other and how their love shines through everything they do.
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review
Readers have anticipated Nicoletta's story from the time it's clear, she casts the right shadow. Raised in the heart of Ferraro territory we've waited for Nicoletta to grow up and own her destiny as a Ferraro bride. A birthday trip to a concert in Los Angeles turns deadly and plummets Nicoletta into the obsession of a mafia crime boss to walk the shadows with Taviano and stand by his side as his wife.
Untrained a determined Nicoletta demonstrates an ability to walk the shadows that is far superior to some trained from birth. Her life under threat. married to Taviano whom she's secretly admired but never felt worthy of and a part of the Ferraro family change is constant.
Taviano is the character who really surprised me. He's so gifted and tender. He makes Nicoletta feel safe and has no qualms about making himself vulnerable in the process. Through his words and actions he cherishes Nicoletta building back her self esteem and self worth. He can be mischievous as well as he demonstrates when he follows Nicoletta and they end up in the local Pizza joint where he fuels the gossip by announcing his relationship with her.
While this might be the most tenderly romantic of all the books in this series it is also the most violent. "Justice is served" and the body count is extremely high. In addition to the violence trigger given Nicoletta's back story there is the sexual abuse element as well so readers with those triggers need to watch out.
I can't see where Ms. Feehan will take this series next since the story has taken an interesting turn and of course I think Emmanuelle's story might be even more anticipated than Nicoletta's has been.
Like all the Shadow books, Shadow Flight, is filled with overprotective, macho men with supernatural powers who will go to any lengths to protect their family and their women from the evil they battle daily. The characters are interesting and the plotline is fast paced. And even though Ms. Feehan seems to follow the same basic story shell throughout her series, Shadow Flight still manages to capture and hold reader interest. If you enjoy this author's other books, this series will not dksappoint.
I had a tough time getting into this one. It just didn't grab me the way other books in the series did. I put it down and don't have a huge urge to pick it back up.
Shadow Flight by Christine Feehan is the 5th book in her fantastic Shadow Riders series. I love this series, as each and every book has been great. With that being said, Shadow Flight may be the best one yet, though I loved Stefano and Francesca in the first book. Refresher: Shadow riders have the ability to blend themselves to the shadows wherever they are, making themselves invisible to anyone. They have been in existence for centuries, with all members of their families trained to use those abilities. The family runs a legitimate business; they use their ability to help others in need to solve various problems and dispense justice. They are an extremely powerful and close-knit family that is totally loyal to one another, also protecting the people that in live in their community.
Taviano, our hero in this story, has always privately loved Nicoletta since he helped rescue you her from an evil gang leader, who ran a sex trafficking ring. Nicoletta, our heroine, thinks Taviano is wonderful, but has no idea that he loves her. When he offers the Ferraro plane to take Nicoletta and her three friends to a concert, things will drastically change, when at the concert, she is recognized by a gang member, and her three friends are kidnapped, as she manages to escape and get to Taviano. Nicoletta remembers vividly her time in captivity and the abuse she had to endure; she desperately convinces Taviano they need to save her friends. In doing so, Taviano needs to take her through the shadows to help save her friends, which is considered a no-no, as being a shadow rider is a Ferraro secret; after the rescue, he decides to go to Las Vegas and marry Nicoletta, in order to be able to keep his being a shadow rider. Nicoletta was shocked at first, but she knew that she had some ability to travel through shadows from her family growing up; she also loved Taviano, but worried that he didn’t love her. In a short time, she would learn how wrong she was.
The story does revolve around Nicoletta’s past, her sexual abuse, and her determination to be a strong shadow rider. Taviano was a great hero, his love of Nicoletta was wonderful, and he was so patient and understanding with her. Nicoletta was also a great heroine, who as the story continued, she was even more so as she stood up to the nasty matriarch, Eloise. I loved them together, and Christine handled the sex scenes very well. We got to spend time with some of the other cousins, who are part of the Ferraro family, and I am hoping Emme’s story comes soon. It really was awesome to see everyone take part of fighting the gang members, who are trying to get to Nicoletta and bring her back to the evil leader.
What follows is an intense, pulse pounding, exciting adventure, where Nicoletta is in constant danger, and Taviano, with the entire Ferraro family trying to be one step of the gangs coming and stopping them from getting anywhere near her. I will not give spoilers, as I do not want to ruin it for you; especially since this was a masterpiece.
What I love the most about this series is all the wonderful characters that Feehan has created. I love all of the Ferrero’s, and those they fall in love with that join the family. They are an awesome family, with amazing abilities that make this so much fun.
Shadow Flight is a captivating, exciting, suspenseful, action packed story, with a wonderful couple that we couldn’t help but love. This was an awesome addition to this series, and loved how Feehan ended with the last 1/3 of the book. This is a fantastic paranormal series that you should be reading, and very well written by Christine Feehan.
In my opinion one cannot fully appreciate this book without reading the previous books in the series. The best part of this book is seeing Nicoletta get her story. Fans of Feehan will enjoy this addition to the Shadow Riders series. New readers should start at the beginning. There are definite trigger warnings for violence, but the drama and relationships and heat all combine for an excellent read of paranormal alpha romances!
Shadow Flight by Christine Feehan continues the story of the Ferraro crime family with the story of Taviano Ferraro and Nicoletta Gomez. Taviano first saw Nicoletta when his family rescued her from her uncles who were very cruel and abusive, but she was very young. Time goes on and eventually Nicoletta become old enough that Taviano feels he can claim her as he knows that she is the only one for him. Is it an easy courtship? Of course not. If you want to find out how it all works out, be sure to read the book. While this is part of a series, you could read it as a standalone, but to get the full story you should go back to the beginning.
Thanks for netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book for an honest opinion.
Feehan introduced Nicoletta in previous Shadow Rider titles, and now she's grown up physically, but mentally she still battles the demons from her abusive childhood. Taviano Ferraro watched over her from the shadows, waiting for her to grow up and now that she has, nothing will stand between them. Not even his own demons. Fans of the series will enjoy revisiting the Ferraro family, although the ending is rather lackluster and leaves the reader with the question why this didn't happen sooner if it was so easy.
This was Nicoletta and Taviano's story. It's been in the making for a long time. It was nice to see how Nicoletta had matured after her antics in the beginning. I mean seriously she went through a hellava trauma and with with support of Taviano and his family, she shines in this book.
Let me just say, Taviano had me iffy in the some of his interactions with her in earlier books. But dayum, his devotion to her in this book and his support of her healing gave me shivers!!! Then the twist in his own story.
I love when men let women get their own justice. Another great edition to the Shadow Riders! Can't wait for more of the cousins!! :)
I received an electronic ARC from Berkley Publishing Group through NetGalley.
Trigger Alert - Two of the characters endured gang rapes when they were children and teens. Feehan handles this with compassion but be aware of this possible trigger.
This book covers Taviano and Nicoletta's story. It's the fifth in Feehan's Shadow Rider series.
Both have been damaged by events in their past and struggle to figure out their life together. An incident happens in the first few chapters that sets off danger and risk for Nicoletta. Taviano has no choice but to pull her in to ride the shadows with him to save her life. They discover she is able to do this, and, in fact, had done it as a child and teen with no training. To save his career, they marry quickly in Vegas and return home. The story unfolds from there with enough action and sexual tension to pull readers in.
Feehan has returned to her storytelling roots with this book. She spins the suspenseful parts out to keep readers involved. Her characters offer a variety of emotions and reactions that work in the settings. The Ferraro family is intricately woven together and yet each is a unique person in each of these books. Looking forward to the next one in the series.
NOTE: an excerpt from Desolation Road from the Torpedo Ink series is included at the end of the book.
