That book was a hot mess, which is such a travesty for this author, and more specifically for the main characters.
It often had the feel of being written out of order, and is in desperate need of a really stringent edit. It also has major continuity errors.
Dallas deserved a better story than this, and so did Dora. It started off well, but there was so much that happened throughout the book that just felt ridiculous and unnecessary. Add to that the events that we’re referred to but not developed. It was an absolute hot mess.
I have been anxiously awaiting the second book to this series because I can’t resist an opposites attract romance and rich adrenaline junkie Dallas and shy stuttering Dora are as opposites as it could get for this group.
I was not disappointed.
This is a YA romance so there is drama, angst, drama, mushy slow burn romance, drama, school, work, family, friends and *drum roll* more drama! There is also a lot more laughs and sweet moments all around than I was expecting which I loved!
I think going into this I was way more lenient than I normally would have been for any other romance (see safety notes) but overall I thought Dallas was definitely worth getting to know and Dora was really sweet. Maybe too sweet? I know some might see her as a push over – there were a few instances where I wanted her to steel her spine too – but Dora has a really soft heart, she is uber understanding and emphatic to others, especially Dallas. So I can see where she is coming from.
Dallas and Dora have that slow burn, friends to lovers thing going for them. With both of them thinking they aren’t good enough for the other, they try to keep things on a platonic level but the more they get to know each other, the harder it becomes to resist.
I can’t pinpoint exactly what it is about this series that hooks me in every time because it wasn’t a perfect read (hence the 3 star rating) but it was good. It gave me the warm fuzzies, I liked both MCs and the romance was just the right amount of steamy and sugary sweet.
I’m back to waiting anxiously for the next book – which just so happens to be Zoe and Brock! Another OTT opposites attract trope to reel me in :)
Nothing But Wild by P. Dangelico is the 2nd book in the Malibu University romance series, and my first book by this author. I loved this book! Dallas is a popular, attractive, a player and on the water polo team. Dora feels she's not attractive, awkward, and would love to have a boyfriend. Dallas and Dora are opposites, but become friends, and share parts of themselves they have not told anyone else. I just love everything about this story. I am looking forward to going back and reading the 1st book in the series. If you love a great young adult/new adult romance, I strongly recommend this book, you will not be disappointed.
I reviewed a digital arc provided by NetGalley and the publisher. Thank you.
P. Dangelico works can be a hit or miss, and no matter how much I tried to make an attempted to like one of her works, it's either the writing style or characters that ruin my overall reading experience. With that being said, this fell under both categories believe it or not
Let's start off with the storyline: it fell flat. I was near the halfway mark and there wasn't anything gravitating me to what was happening, who was doing who, why the heroine kiss our drunk hero, why he kept her phone, and yada yada yada. The story was unoriginal, dull, slow paced and too much of a snoozefest for me to continue on.
Lastly the characters were b-o-r-i-n-g af. Dora was painfully ruined the beginning of the novel for me. Her constant insecurities about her weight were mention non stop. Don't get me wrong I love the BBW trend that's been happening as of late but seeing the same repetitive "I'm too fat, I need to lose weight" scenes page after page became tiring after a while and I nearly had to put this book down to wrap my head around why I couldn't find one redeeming quality about this. In addition to that, let's not forget Dallas: he's a disaster waiting to happen and I honestly couldn't picture a future where him and Dora relationship would actually work out.
Needless to say, not worth the time nor energy finishing the one out.
This is Dallas and Dora’s book, Dallas is a water polo God. As part of a plea deal for Dallas Dora gets to drive him around! Dora is quiet and has always played it safe she volunteers at the local shelter and is very studious earlier this year she decides to get a makeover for herself and she met Dallas had a costume party! Soon after they became friends! Dallas always seems to be the life of the party and it’s kind of a player but there’s something about this quiet girl that has him interested! This book was good kind of a slow burn it was a sweet and hot story! It’s definitely worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for sharing this book with me!
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book (given by Netgalley)...
Well we finally get to understand the craziness that is Dallas Van Zant; if you read Nothing But Trouble than you know Dallas has gotten himself into a tricky situation with his reckless behavior. I recommend reading Nothing But Trouble prior to reading this book since Dallas' book happens simultaneously with Reagan's book (also there are some spoilers in this book about events that took place in Reagan's book).
Dallas and Dora were such an odd couple, but it was so sweet to watch them fall for each other. Dora's personality and behavior is the complete opposite of Dallas and his carefree wild personality, but because she is different from him, she able to understand him and see the broken man on the inside. I just loved this couple and how they came to be; Dora was no push over and Dallas already had his heart broken multiple times, but they completed each other in a way they never expected.
It was heartwarming watching the reckless Dallas fall in love his Kitten, the woman he swore he wouldn't fall for and just wanted to be friends with, but he lost that battle so hard and I completely enjoyed it. Now don't get me wrong nothing was perfect and Dallas made a no-no as men tend to do when they try to solve a problem that doesn't exist.
I loved Banjo and I know what happened hurt and scared Dallas so bad he lost his mind for a bit, but Dora did what needed to be done for her crazy lovable man. The ONLY thing I had a problem with is that Dora forgave Dallas a bit too easy even after Vi/Mika had told her to make him work for it. In my opinion, after what he said in front of a random girl and leaving Dora hanging for a bit the least he could do is grovel for at least 24 hours or buy a gift of apology, something anything would have helped.
When these two get together you truly see the mystery of attraction and finding that person who just works for you. On paper, and probably in person these two wouldn't be seen as a solid match, and trust me, they don't see it either, but as time goes by we all see it. The rest of the journey is to see if they're able to sustain it, but you will definitely enjoy the process. New to the series but didn't feel lost and now have a new book to check out.
I received an advanced copy of this book from Netgalley for my honest review.
Well, I don’t really know what to say, P Dangelico is fast becoming one of my go-to authors. I’ve loved all her stories to date, and the Malibu University series is turning out to be a firm favourite of mine. Nothing But Wild only cementing my opinion even more. I was completely addicted from the get-go. Wonderful writing, wonderful story and wonderful characters. So many wonderfuls. I can NOT fault Dallas Van Zant or Dora Ramos, what you see is what you get. A truly special couple who I was rooting for from the start. Loved that the story ran alongside book 1, and loved reading about all the characters I met previously. A story full of friendship, romance, love and sexy time. Add in some family time and emotional drama (where I’ve got to say the tears were a flowing). A full five star read that I loved.
Absolutely loved Dora and Dallas! I could not put this book down. I love a misunderstood hero! Dora was such an awesome heroine. I like how she came out of her shell, but still stayed true to who she is at her core. I can always count on Dangelico for a wonderful slow burn and this story was no different. Dallas turned out to be a big, sweet teddy bear and Dora was perfect for him!
This was a light and easy read, starting with a friendship which I really liked. Dallas comes across as having it all together but has real insecurities which made him seem like a more real character. It was well written and makes me exited to keep reading the novels in this series!
This is part of the Malibu U series and is a young adult series about friends in college who are VERY rich but find love. This is Dallas and Dory's story and it takes us to the beginning from the first moment they meet. It was told wonderfully and it easily stands alone though its #2 in the series. I read the first book and while it was a great story this story was so much better.
If you love a reformed jerk or friends who become more or even enemies to liovers then you will love this story.
Dallas is an awesome guy who has had very little love in his life. He is rich vry rich but he is very poor in love and parents. His mother is bi polar, his grandfather likes porn stars and his father is into the drug scene. He once had a gilfriend who he loved but it was a very complicated romance.
He meets Dory on a night he is high and drunk and he thinks she is his ex and they kiss. Dory has a big crush on Dallas and so she kisses him and then she runs away. Its a bit of a Cinderella story in that Dallas has to find her and when she loses her cell phone and he grabs it and keeps it and checks her out, It does not go well for him and he has to work hard for her to forgive him.
These two eventually form a true friendship and are really there for each other. I fell hard for them both and really rooted for them to find their happily ever after. My only complaint on the story is that it ended abruptly and I would have loved a glimpse into their future but I guess that will happen in the next book.
Every once in a while I run across a book that has that special sort of magic.
You know the type, right? When the story snakes its way into your heart and gives it a good squeeze. When find yourself reading with breath baited, belly dissolving into butterflies, and a physical ache in your heart that feels just a little bit like you are actually falling in love.
Yep. That. All of that. That's how I felt reading Nothing But Wild.
Holy Hannah, but I loved Dallas and Dora.
By now I've read enough books by P. Dangelico to know that I am going to sink right into the delicious way she tells her stories. And yet, somehow I'm still surprised when I find myself wholly caught up in it, emotionally invested, and held in thrall by the storytelling and the multi-layered characters, and all the ways they make me feel. This, of course, is the best kind of surprise. And it's enough to keep me coming back over and over again.
I loved these two so much. I loved how neither character was perfect in any kind of traditional way, but they were so perfect for each other. I loved that Dora carried such an understated strength, and I completely adored how they took turns holding each other up over the course of the book. Theirs was a true partnership, rooted in friendship and pulsing with passion and...GAH -- the feels! The burn between Dallas and Dora is very slow, yet it's never absent. It fizzes and sparks the entire time as Dora and Dallas banter their way into falling in love. Their chemistry is potent, it kept me on the hook - laughing, aching, swooning and cheering them on.
There were a couple tiny hiccups along the way for me. The timeline skips around some and it occasionally felt jarring (like perhaps I missed something important). I'm also not 100% sure what to make of the ending on this one. I mean, overall I am satisfied and thrilled with it, but the last page left me a little puzzled - again, like I had missed something important.
That said, I still enthusiastically recommend this one. It's the delicious sort of addicting NA angst that I will enthusiastically devour every single time and then come immediately back for more. That is to say - I absolutely loved this story and cannot wait for the next one!
Kitten and the Star!
I could not help but fall for Dallas and Dora! Even though Dallas was perfect on the outside, he was broken on the inside ... he acted wild and free to protect his heart. Anyone he ever loved, didn't love him back. And Dora was just so cute. Even though she thought she wasn't perfect on the outside and she stuttered ... Dallas was smitten with her right from the start!
Dallas is one of the stars of the Malibu water polo team ... and he has the arrogance to prove it! Dora is a nerd that wants to be a vet ... oh yeah, and she's a virgin. When Dallas spies all that red hair and curvy body ... he can't stop himself from following her everywhere. Notice I said "following" not "stalking" ... lol? Even though Dallas is from a very wealthy family, he has absolutely no family life. And Dora has two Dads and was wanted long before she was born.
This is a great addition to the series and shouldn't be missed! I can't wait for the next book ... all the characters are so unique!
I received an early copy courtesy of the author through NetGalley in exchange for a honest review.
Wow...Wow....Wow is all I can say. When the story ended I wanted there to be more. I need to know more about where Dora and Dallas end up. To say this was a slow burn romance is an understatement. There are so many times during this story that I was on the edge of my seat wanting them to kiss and then pulling my hair out when they didnt. I love how Dora is a shy, self-conscious college girl. It was very easy to picture yourself in her shoes at that age. It made the character more realistic for me. The group of friends she has is one for the ages. Who doesn't love Zoe and her one liners. Also the advice they all had to give her about keeping her eyes shut was priceless. Then comes in the cocky rich boy Dallas. He is the boy that every girl wants to love and most of us end up hating. Only its an act because he has experienced in the past that everyone he loves and everyone he lets get close to him leaves and/or dies. When these characters come together it was the sweetest new adult romance I have read and I love the enemies to lovers vibe it gives. I can not wait to go back and read the first book in this series along with the next 3 once they are released.
Thank you to netgalley, P.. Dangelico and Weapenry Co-Op for allowing me to read this ARC for my honest review.
I really love the Malibu University cast of characters. The camaraderie, loyalty, banter, and love that flows through the pages of this book, in particular, is quite special. The two main characters of this very slow burn, friends-to-lovers installment are nicely suited to each other and share great wit, humor, and some depth. I had wished a few things were more concisely fleshed out to show greater depth of character. Some of the transitions were wonky but overall the book is easy to read and be engaged with while providing a high entertainment value. Dangelico's ease and grace in writing New Adult Romance is obvious as she pulls at your heart with her versatile and likeable characters. Dallas and Dora are much different than I expected but just as sweet and rewarding. If you like well developed, fun, and easy to read NA this one is for you. I cannot wait to read the next installment as I really love this big hearted, hilarious group of friends.
***4 "Kitten!!!" stars***
And it came the time for D&D's story to be delivered!!!
And what a wonderful and heartwelming story it was!!!
It's not a secret that I'm enjoying very much P.Dangelico's stories, and there is no exception...
After Nothing but trouble, i was wishing for Dallas and Dora's story! And here, it is!!!
Of course, now i can not wait for Broke and Zoe or Cole's story, but hey, I'm a human with wicknesses!!! LOL!!!
Well, if you had picked up in the previous book that something was going on with Dallas and Dora, then you were right!!!! But they never gave anything out, even though the story was developing during Reagan and Alice's story as a timeline!!!!
Dora and Dallas couldn't be more opposites, but in a strange way, they were fitting very well together!!!
Of course, the author was torturing us for once again with a slow romance... Becoming firstly friends and then something more, but hell, the ride was worth it!!!!
Everything started with a drunken kiss behind a catwoman costume!!! And then their paths were colliding all the time... Other times were bitter, other times were hillarious and others soooo sweet!!!!
Dora was an insecure girl with a stutter and an awful wardrobe, but she was so kind and beautifully sweet...
Dallas was wild and ... misunderstood in a way!!!!
Those two incompatible people were paired very good as friends and as... more!!! Even though they had their own demons to face...
"I've never felt more alive than when I'm with you."
I loved Dora since the first book!!! She was just a girl that was admiring a God from afar and then this God became reachable and then... everything changed!!!
Dallas was wild, yes, but in here, we found out more about him and his reasons behind his actions!!!
The truth is that insecure Dallas was a very strange thing to witness, but for evething there is a first time. No???
Their relationship??? It was bitter and sweet with its ups and downs...
Two opposite people manage to find solace to each other and that was a wonderful thing to witness!!!
And as i told you above, i can not wait for the next books!!!
I'm dying to read the Peterman brothers's stories!!!!
And Zoe's and Blake's!!! With them maybe??? Or not???
Who cares??? I just want them!!!!
...Today is a good day to live...

Dallas makes an awesome book boyfriend!
I had some real issues at the beginning of this book, but after about 20% it was much better and I really ended up enjoying the story and the characters. This story was about a sweet girl named Dora Ramos who has a lot of insecurities but is crushing on the hottest guy at her college. His name is Dallas Van Zant and he is the best player on the water polo team and quite a player with the ladies as well.
My main problem with the beginning of this book is that Dora’s inner commentary lets us know that she considers herself overweight and that is her main insecurity. It is drilled into the reader over and over with commentary about food, diet, weight and how she thinks about herself. In one single chapter she says things like how she ran away faster than she jumps on a doughnut, how she failed to cram her booty into a Winnie the Pooh costume, how asking if she wants a boyfriend is like asking is she wants a Twinkie, how she will never turn down an iced latte, and how no California men want her “meat” as opposed to the bone of thinner girls.
I know that the BBW is all the trend in books recently, but you don’t have to go on and on about it. We get it already after the first comment. I personally think that the fact that she has a stutter could have been what she was insecure about, not the weight issue. She hardly seemed insecure about the stutter though. I wish books would just not mention the weight of the woman at all, like it is a non-issue whether the heroine is thin or fat.
After all the background information was given and Dora and Dallas started interacting with each other, the weight issue wasn’t mentioned as much so I was able to start enjoying the story more. There were a lot of supporting characters though and for me it was a bit hard to keep track of who was who. The reason being that all the guys (Friends and teammates of Dallas) have more than one name. They have their first name, last name and a nickname. One time he would refer to one by their last name, the next by their nickname and then again by the first name. I think his best friend was referred to as Rea, Reagan, Reynolds, and Cap.
The same with the girls, all the girls called each other by first name and Dora had a friend Alice Bailey, so they kept calling her Alice and Dallas kept calling her Bailey. I had to go back to the beginning where her full name was mentioned to see which of her friends he was talking about. Though I realize this is how it works in real life. Guys do often call people by the first name sometimes and last name another time as well as using nicknames a lot. Once I got all the friends straight it wasn’t an issue.
The romance between Dallas and Dora was slow to develop, they became friends first. I really like the character of Dallas. He was attracted to Dora very early on and his point of view was particularly good as he fell for her more and more. Dora saw Dallas as her dream man that she could never have as a boyfriend because her insecurities wouldn’t let her think that he might want her that way.
Though as Dora gets to know Dallas more, she sees what a great guy he is. Not just a beautiful player without depth. There are some storylines about each of their families and things that happened in the past and it all is brought together nicely. There are several steamy scenes that are terrific and in the end, I really want Dallas as a boyfriend! 😉 I ended up really liking the story and though I will take away one star for the issues I discussed, I still give this book 4 stars overall.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Book 2 in the series. Really enjoyed the chemistry between Dallas and Dora. They were such a cute couple. Dora was much stronger than you would think and Dallas had demons you would not expect.
They fitted perfectly.
I really liked this book! I was excited to start it because I love P. Dangelico, I think her writing is amazing and this did not disappoint. There were a lot of things I liked about this but also a few that I didn't. I'll start with the things I liked. I really liked the slow-burn in this book, that for the majority of the book they were really friends and we as readers got to see that friendship build which was super nice. I also liked that this one was very different than the last one in the series because I really liked the last one except for the ending. I also love how P. Dangelico writes the meetings of the characters, it's always such a good first meeting like that there's instantly a story. I also really liked that the friends that were in the last one were also in this one and that it was about Dora who had such a great story and Dallas who was great in the first book and such a great friend to Reagan. On to the things that I didn't like so much. I didn't really care for that weird twist at the end, I felt like it was thrown in there because she realized she needed something more but I honestly don't think anymore was needed. Additionally, I just think there were a bit too many loose ends, there were still a few things that after the book I was like huh? I guess that was resolved which I wish it was a bit more definitive. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I give it 4 stars.
I am really enjoying this series. All the characters are such fun and have amazing banter, Dora has looked at Dallas from afar thinking he was unattainable, she was shy and quiet but was determined to come out of her shell and live a little. She had a great group of friends to help her. Dallas had his own demons hidden by humour. What follows is a slow burn romance where this unlikely pair start off as tentative friends, it was great to see love grow though there was the inevitable bump in the road, Dora stayed strong and waited for Dallas to stop being Stupid! I look forward to reading the next one in the series.
Thank you to NetGalley for the copy.
