Cara Putnam brings suspense and drama in her novels. Once you pick up one of her books, be prepared to spend hours getting caught up in the story.
This is one not to be missed.
I received a copy from the publisher through Netgalley. Opinions are my own.
Cara always puts out amazing books! This one was no different! I love the way she incorporates legal aspects into her books and how she keeps them romantic yet also interesting.
I always recommend Putnam's books to anyone who enjoys romantic suspense but likes the added twist of a legal thriller!
I loved Flight Risk. This was the first book that I read from Cara Putman and was unsure if I would become a fan. I enjoyed every moment of the suspense filled book.
I always enjoy characters that have many facets to their identity. Savannah Daniels is just such a character. A single woman who has worked hard to establish herself in the arena of practicing law. Along with her practice, she has built a solid group of women that are faithful friends. Although life appears good, Savannah's personal life is ripe with complications, that includes her niece and Savannah's neglectful sister, Stasi.
Jett Glover is a journalists that is hoping to unravel the truth in a human trafficking ring that may include someone from Savannah's past.
Lots of twists and turns that make this book a great read!
In this fast-paced legal thriller. Savannah is a lawyer who has a hard time trusting anyone after the betrayal of her ex-husband. When a journalist published an expose about a sex trafficking ring that implicates her ex, she is thrown into a world of murder and trying to stay alive. I had a hard time putting this book down!
FTC Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book. These are my honest thoughts.
The title of this book was misleading to me. I was expecting a person to be a flight risk, to be a risk to go on the run from the law, but that never came up at all. It was more about technology instead. Nothing wrong with that, but it wasn’t at all what I was expecting.
The tech involved was pretty interesting. It would be great if something like it were applied in reality (and maybe there already is), because I think it would be helpful to investigators to better understand what goes wrong on flights that crash. In the early pages, it felt repetitive to the point of annoyance on what Mnemosyne’s goal was. It would have been helpful to have a pronunciation hint on the name of the company, though. Its cofounders were written well. I was kept delightfully off-kilter with their personalities and goals and what information they were willing to disclose to their lawyer. I really enjoyed their scenes and highly anticipated their next ones.
This book is definitely related to the Hidden Justice series. It should have been labeled Hidden Justice #4, because it’s about the leading member of the law firm we got to know in that series. I’m not sure why this book was published as a “stand-alone,” because I would have felt like I’d missed a whole lot of stuff if I hadn’t read the first three books before reading this one, especially when the other members in the friend group were mentioned and showed up in several scenes.
To me, this was a slow-burn mystery rather than a fast-paced suspense. When I pick up a suspense book, I want action-packed speed to the chapters. That isn’t at all what I got with this book. Things picked up a little in the back half, but it didn’t at any time have me on the edge of my seat. However, I still enjoyed this story to a degree and want to read the next book in the Hidden Justice series, Lethal Intent, to find out what happens to the firm and its lawyers next.
The romance in this one was difficult for me. There didn’t seem to be much chemistry between Savannah and Jett, so that whole aspect was pretty lost on me. I saw and appreciated Jett’s chivalry. That was really sweet and all, but their beginning as mortal enemies was written so strongly that I couldn’t believe they’d actually come around to tolerate one another, let alone to actually love each other. I wanted it to work, and I’m glad it did, but I just felt disconnected from it. One reason might have been because Savannah still held on to some feelings for her ex-husband after being divorced for over 15 years. That seemed like a really long time to still pine for a guy she used to love but currently claimed she despised. I didn’t understand why she still loved him or why she would toy with another man’s affections if she did still harbor love for her ex. I did enjoy her red-dress moments, though. Very special stuff right there.
Savannah’s love for her niece was incredible. This aspect pulled through very strongly. I admired that Savannah was a rock for her niece when her sister and brother-in-law couldn’t be. This complex relationship felt raw and vulnerable and natural and realistic all rolled into one.
Addy was great. She was my favorite character, because her emotions were written so well. In every scene she was in, it was clear her heart was on her sleeve. Every reaction, every attitude, every moment was so spot-on with her. She’s the one who kept me reading, kept me wanting to know more. I wanted to solve the mystery for her sake, so she could eventually find some healing from the traumas she’d endured.
As for the mystery itself, the truth behind the news story was predictable to me. Maybe it’s because I’ve heard a lot about human trafficking and the different aspects of undercover work it takes to catch the criminals in such evil dealings. However, I liked Jett’s fight for the truth, and his emotions in the latter chapters of the story were really great. I felt his anguish. Also, several of the details that were discovered along the way were UNpredictable to me. Therefore, I was able to enjoy the journey even though I knew the end result from pretty early on.
The cat was really well written. This on-page kitty was a great reminder of how sweet and lovable cats can be.
I wanted to love this story, because I’ve enjoyed many others of Mrs. Putman’s books. I’m hoping Lethal Intent is much better than Flight Risk, to find that five-star range again.
Flight Risk by Cara C. Putman is an excellent legal thriller. Ms Putman is an expert in matters of law and in storytelling. This shines through seamlessly in her books. Here, she takes on the topic of sex trafficking. The story is a fantastic example of Christian suspense and readers of legal thrillers will especially love this book. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.
Flight Risk was fast, thrilling and engaging! I loved the fact that it is a standalone but these characters still stole my heart. It is well worth the read!
I wanted to love this book because I've loved her other legal suspense books, but this one was too busy for me. Too much description and jumping around. I found myself bored.
I received an advanced copy of this book. This is my honest review.
Things are not always as they seem.
FLIGHT RISK is Ms. Putman's newest legal thriller and it's a must read. The story does start rather confusing with a bunch of legal talk, and the events didn't seem likely to evolve into one story line. I have read enough of Ms.Putman's books, though that I knew it would.
Both Savannah and Jett are very strong lead characters. I fell in love with Jet first, but Savannah quickly followed. I can't imagine the plotting Ms. Putman did to make it all come together.
A great story that I really enjoyed.
I was given a copy free. All opinions are my own.
Flight Risk by Cara Putnam is several thrillers in one. Savannah Daniels's life is turned upside down when her niece calls her screaming that her father is dead, her ex-husband is has died in a plane crash, and a lawsuit involving the patented flight technology. Add in a nosey reporter named Jett Glover, and Putnam had intricated weaved a story that will keep you turning pages this summer.
This book was full of past-faced action and suspense! The story contained lots of unpredictable twists and turns that kept the plot interesting. I liked Savannah a lot, but Jett was definitely someone it took time to like. I thought the author did a good job of handling sensitive subjects of human trafficking and alcoholism. Some of the characters from Cara Putman’s Hidden Justice series make an appearance in this book, but I do not think that you have to read that series first to enjoy this novel. Overall, this novel is an enjoyable suspense book and I recommend it to those who like romantic suspense!
I received a complimentary ecopy of this book from Netgalley and Thomas Nelson Publishers. Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
Savannah Daniels is a successful attorney; she’s single, having been cheated on by her ex-husband, and fairly untrusting of men. Her niece, (her sister’s and ex’s child) is everything to her, and she’ll do anything to protect her. When a reporter releases an expose of her ex-husband with shocking evidence that he was involved in the sex trafficking of young girls from Thailand, she jumps in to get to the bottom of it. Flight Risk, by bestselling author, Cara Putman, has all of the elements of a great thriller, since the reporter, Jett Glover has everything to back up his story even though it has ruined the lives of the men who are accused. A plane crashes, most likely due to one of Savannah’s clients, and she is working on that aspect, since her ex and one of his partners were on that plane. One of them died, and then her ex was murdered. Savannah and Jett pair up to get to the bottom of things, and put themselves in danger, as well as others around them.
Putman is a bestselling author because she can tell a viable story in a way that keeps readers glued to their seats. She adds a bit of romance to counteract the constantly building suspense, and includes characters that have flaws just like we do. She does an excellent job of developing her characters so that they seem like real people; most readers know someone like them and they are very believable. Readers will wonder if Jett is one of those characters who can be trusted because Savannah is one who has her guard up and is finally trusting him to help; it may be a mistake.
Putman has created a story that is fascinating and believable. It will compel readers to pick up her previous books to get more of her excellent writing and stories. Highly recommended for thriller aficionados.
Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.
This was an intense plot filled with suspense and a little romance. The characters were realistic and easy to engage with. I loved this book.
Many thanks to Thomas Nelson Fiction and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
Oh my goodness, this story kept me interested and engaged from beginning to end. I absolutely loved it and couldn’t stop reading!!
Although the truth may seem clear in back and white, sometimes it’s not that clear and straight forward. Journalist Jett finds that out as the men who were recently featured in his hit story keep coming up dead.
Lots of twists and turns with suspense and drama all throughout the story. Some light clean romance towards the end.
I loved the main character Savannah (attorney) and her determination to help her niece and to be strong for her family even when others didn’t appreciate her or want her help.
I highly recommend reading this legal suspense and thriller. However, you won’t want to stop reading once you start! I can’t wait to read more books from this author. I really enjoy her writing and clean suspense stories.
I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.
FLIGHT RISK by Cara C. Putnam is a new romantic suspense with a hero, heroine and plot that make it impossible to put down!
Savannah Daniels has worked hard to build a prospering law firm filled with trusted and loyal friends since her divorce fifteen years ago. Savannah has trouble trusting since her ex-husband’s betrayal, but she would do anything for her young niece, her sister and ex-husband’s daughter.
Jett Glover is a newspaper man fiercely dedicated to only writing the truth. His father committed suicide when Jett was just twelve years old after a reporter ruined his reputation with false reporting. Jett feels like he has the story of his career, a famous baseball player and three others are all implicated in an international sex trafficking ring. He has checked all his facts and his expose is printed.
The printing of Jett’s story and a commercial airplane crash somehow tied to two of Savannah’s clients are colliding with the start of the murder of the men implicated in Jett’s article. One of those men is Savannah’s ex-husband. Can Jett and Savannah trust each other enough to work together to discover the killer? Will the truth of Jett’s article be the whole truth?
I read this book from start to finish in one sitting. Savannah is such a strong and intelligent heroine, who is giving to everyone, except herself. She is so wonderful to her niece, even with her personal heartbreak and betrayal. Jett is wonderful at accepting Savannah as she is, but he wants her to let him in and trust him. This is a cozy romance with no sex, but a growing relationship based on learning to trust again. All of the characters in this story are fully fleshed and realistic.
The plot is fast-paced and continued to surprise me with several twists and red herrings. The author had my emotions all over the place and they were intricately intertwined with the characters and plot. This is listed as a Christian thriller besides being a romantic suspense. There are a few places where Savannah prays for strength or guidance, but it is never out of character for her or an interruption to the flow of the story.
I highly recommend this romantic suspense and I cannot wait to read more of this author’s books!
Flight Risk was a thrilling, twisty read. Within the first few chapters, I knew this tangled web of clues was going to lead to an amazing ride to the truth, and I was right! The fast pace of the book combined with the layered and overlapping mysteries in the story makes for a riveting read. You won’t want to put this book down for long--not until you’ve discovered the truth alongside Savannah and Jett.
Savannah is a woman I can relate to! She is smart and driven but has a huge heart. And while I loved her tenacity, I also enjoyed seeing her be vulnerable for Jett. The family dynamic for Savannah is amazingly complicated and painful, but it was interesting to see how Savannah chose to handle her circumstances. (Plus, she’s a Captain Marvel fan...so that’s a plus!)
She and Jett made a complementary team, and it was thrilling to follow them as they unwound the intricately woven mystery of the story. Jett, although a champion for truth, is haunted by it. And despite his rugged good looks and overconfident smiles, he is more vulnerable than he cares to admit to most people. Still, his heart is in the right place--especially when it comes to Savannah. I love how he can see past the walls she’s built around herself and strives not to make himself a priority in her life but to show her how important she is.
Flight Risk is a rollercoaster of suspense. Any fan of inspirational suspense/romantic suspense will enjoy this book.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book with no expectation of a positive review. All opinions are my own.
Established attorney, Savannah butts heads with Jett after he publishes an expose about her ex- husband being involved in sex trafficking. Due to circumstances in his past, Jett vows only to report the truth. Lots of twists and turns in this story. I would highly recommend this book!
Flight Risk is an engaging legal thriller and an enjoyable read. I liked this book, but I didn't connect to it as much as I wanted to.
The suspense was solid and completely riveting! The author did a wonderful job escalating the tension with multiple plot lines -the aftermath of a damaging expose, a stressful lawsuit with possible ties to a plane crash, and a villain lurking in the shadows - until they merged into a satisfying climax. It was definitely my favorite part of the book!
I really liked Savannah, a hardworking and guarded attorney with deep wounds from a complicated family situation (her ex-husband fathered her niece while they were still married). I instantly empathized with her and admired her choice to be a steady adult figure in her niece's life in spite of the constant reminder of betrayal and an unrepentant sister. I also liked how she consistently took her troubles to God in prayer and trusted Him. However, it was extremely irksome how much she enabled Stasi's addiction, irresponsibility and entitlement and, unfortunately, I felt like it wasn't resolved in a satisfying way.
As for Jett, I thought he was okay. Personally, I think it's hard for main characters with careers as reporters to be viewed as likeable because of what they are willing to do in a pursuit of a story. For the first half of this book, Jett fit that description for me; he's pushy, rude, and all of his encounters with Savannah are attached with a request for information or a favor. But when Jett helps Savannah out of genuine concern for her well-being and makes it his priority to find the truth when his potential award-winning expose is questioned (and people related to his article start to die), I saw him as a man of integrity and someone who genuinely wanted to do the right thing.
Considering how late in the novel my opinion of Jett changed, I think that affected the lack of connection I had to the romance. Plus, I felt like there was a cloud over the romance considering how Jett's article impacted Savannah's family, especially since the validity of it is questioned; however, the author addressed my concerns in a tactful and appropriate manner.
All in all, Flight Risk was a good read and I liked to read more from this author in the future.
*I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and Netgalley. I was not required to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
This was a new to me author.
Unfortunately I struggled with this. Couldn't connect to the characters and story didn't flow well.
Gutted as it held a lot of promise. Would still be interested in trying author again in the future.
3 and a half stars
MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK
Wow! Where to start! Author Cara Putman books are many things. They are many levels, fast-pace, full of action, suspense legal thrillers that will pull you to the edge of your seat, biting your nails until long after the last pages are read. And they deal with difficult issues so realistic and with the most incredible characters, you feel as if you are reading the newspaper. I have read many of Ms. Putman’s books, and I believe this is her best so far.
Savannah has her own law firm and she is good at what she does. But what’s worse is her dealing with her too needy and unstable sister and helping her niece. I can understand the fierceness in wanting to protect her niece because I have several nieces, and several great nieces and I feel her loyalty and protectiveness. When Jett comes on the scene, a budding journalist with a story of a lifetime almost under his belt, he had to grow on me a bit because a pushy journalist just gets under my skin. But as he and Savannah worked together trying to figure out what is going on, I was glad he was on her side. There’s really several stories going on here, a lot of twists and turns, but aren’t they the fun part? I always try to solve the issues and find the guilty one for myself, but this one had me stumped until the end.
This absolutely amazing heartwrenching story is certainly one you don’t want to miss. And if you have not read anything by this wonderful author, now is the time to do that. Just hang on to your seats a d go for it! You will love it!
