Attorney Savannah Daniels is working on a legal case for Mnemosyne, a new form of black box for aircraft. Journalist Jeff Glover is working on the piece that might earn him a Pulitzer, an expose of a famous sportsman and his dodgy holidays to Thailand with three other men. Their paths intersect because one of the men Jeff is investigating is Savannah’s ex-husband … and the father of her niece. Savannah finds herself in the middle of the mystery when a plane crashes with the sportsman on board … as well as a Mnemosyne box.

Yes, the plot is more complex than most. There are plenty of twist and turns, and a few red herrings. How did the box get on the aircraft? Is Susannah’s husband the dodgy scum Glover’s article implies? Is there a conspiracy, or is it all a series of odd coincidences? Questions. Lots of questions. Even better, the questions and answers all make sense in the end (unlike some suspense novels where the big reveal is tied to a logical impossibility).

Flight Risk was my favourite kind of romantic suspense novel, one that grabs you from the get-go and doesn’t let up. I’m usually a fan of character-driven fiction. This was more plot-driven, but in a way that was totally compelling. It’s another must-from a top Christian romantic suspense author—I think it’s one of Cara Putman’s best.

This was my first book by this author. There were aspects of this book that I did enjoy, but I didn't connect with the story as much as I would have liked.

I really liked Savannah. She had accomplished a lot despite some major struggles in her life. I loved how strong she was and how devoted she was to her niece. She started her own law firm and had loyal employees/friends, which says a lot about her character.

Even though I enjoy a bit of romance, I think I would have liked a bit more detail in the mystery/suspense aspect of this story. I wish there had been more about the plane crash and more clues about who the culprit was.

I thought this book was suspenseful and an interesting storyline but something about it felt kind of off. The characters were interesting and relatable yet sometimes I felt they weren't 100% believable. Maybe that is because if I was Savannah I would've never gotten past the fact that Jett wrote a slanderous article about someone that was very close to the person I loved the most (an article that hurt that person very much). But I guess some people are better than me at conflict resolution, lol.

I thought though that the storyline was fast-paced and engaging. I liked the story and the twists and turns. The plot was complex and kept me wondering for most of the book. Overall good read.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Flight Risk is about Savannah Daniels, a tough attorney who has too much on her plate — a law practice, a drug-addicted sister who takes advantage of her at every opportunity, and a teenage niece in need of a loving and responsible care giver. When Savannah is questioned by reporter Jett Glover about illicit activities of her ex-husband, Savannah is unconcerned. The marriage has been over for 15 years, so it’s not her business. But when the story breaks, and then a plane crashes, and then there are other mysterious deaths, all of which involve people mentioned in the article, Savannah and Jett both wonder if there was more to the story than anyone knew — and if they can piece together the truth before the killer finishes the job.

I found Flight Risk to be full of action, emotion, and excitement. Savannah was likable, and I could empathize with her as she struggled to maintain relationships under difficult circumstances. I also enjoyed Jett’s character as he is emotionally open and honest and protective. The story moved at good pace and kept me interested. Overall, I really enjoyed Flight Risk and look forward to checking out more books by Cara Putman.

Whew, what a ride! This is such a hard topic to write about, but thankful that Cara tackled it.

I enjoyed getting to know Savannah. That's one woman with a lot on her plate. Who knew one person could have so much going on at once? It was incredible to me how all of the key players were connected through the story.

Then there's Jett. He's a tenacious journalist, but boy is he off the mark. And when we find that out, ouch! I don't remember this from other books in this genre, but knowing what the real truth is while the characters don't was interesting. I liked it although I kept wanting to warn Savannah and Jett!

While I liked Jett and Savannah working together, I have to be honest, I would've preferred she end up with Dustin (but... he's dead). I know, I know, he cheated on her WITH her sister and usually that would stop me from even considering it, but they both clearly still cared for each other... although there was Hope. I think Cara's writing is what had me leaning that way as I NEVER want that to happen. Anywho, I wasn't super keen on the romance thread of the story. There was so much going on with other elements in the storyline, it was hard to imagine they were both considering the "L" word when they'd only just started getting to know each other.

The intensity and the wondering who was behind everything going on kept me on the edge of my seat. This was a book full of non-stop action and I couldn't wait to find out what was going on. The one thing that came as a surprise was John Martin! "nuff said.

Also, I keep looking back at the cover now and I think by the cover's image I thought this was going to be more of a gov't suspense novel, not an attorney, journalist, and trafficking working together to reveal the "trueth".

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and can't wait for Cara's next novel!

Cara C. Putman does it once again in her new release Flight Risk. This is one of those reads that keeps the readers left guessing what is going to happen in the next scene. I was often left wondering what could possibly be on the next page. I could not put it down until the end to find out how it all ended. It had quite a few twists and turns that kept me gripping my chair. I felt like I was on a roller coaster. What a thrill of a ride. Jett and Savannah made a perfect team. They experience a lot of danger, suspense and adventure trying to find out what is going on and what is ahead of them.

I am giving Flight Risk five plus stars. I highly recommend it for readers who enjoy to read clean romantic suspense. I thought it was a great read.

I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.

Savannah is an attorney with a very busy life. Part good and part stress. The good part is that she loves what she does. The stress part is a sister who has addictions which leaves Savannah looking out for and caring for her sister's daughter frequently. She dearly loves her niece. More stress is that Savannah's husband (now ex-husband) had the child with Savannah's sister. Gasp! No wonder she has trust issues.
Jett Glover is a newspaper reporter determined to always print the truth. Jett's father had ended his life after false reporting ruined his reputation and his life. Jett was determined that he would never be that kind of reporter. Jett is currently working on a story that could be huge for his career. It involves sex-trafficking and some high profile people. He is working diligently to see that all his facts and sources are true. Savannah's ex-husband is linked to the sex-trafficking.
Once his story breaks, so does chaos. An airplane crashes killing two of the subjects in Jett's story. Others connected to the story die under suspicious factors.
Jett and Savannah join ranks to try to figure out this complex puzzle.
Another edge-of-your-seat book by Cara Putman. A must read.
I was given a complimentary copy of this by the publisher, Thomas Nelson and Netgalley. I was under no obligation to write a positive review.

Flight Risk by Cara Putman is a romantic legal thriller that features Savannah Daniels, a lawyer, a sister, an ex-wife, and an aunt to Addy. One of her clients, Mnemosyne plans to launch an alternative to the black box on airplanes. There has been an accident, a plane has crashed with her ex-husband, Dustin Tate, and his friend, Logan Donnely, a celebrated baseball player is killed in the crash.

Jett Glover, a reporter, is investigating these two men for trafficking young girls. There were three men who took slights back and forth to Asia. Soon they are all dead. Jett gets close to Savannah and they team up to investigate what really happened to these three men and how did the plane crash and why?

It appears that the trial black box replacement somehow got on the plane and caused the crash. Who put it there and why? Now can Savannah trust Jett? How can she protect her niece, Addy, and sister, Stasi from the killer? As the story goes on, the reader gets to know the characters and the plot.

I liked this story, it kept my interest and it moved smoothly to the end of the book. Well written with twists and turns to keep the reader interested. The author uses her legal background to flesh out a believable story.

This novel, filled with suspense, subterfuge, and death, curls itself around your heart and tugs at your mind. The intriguing tale pulls you right in and doesn’t let go as it progresses, along with the increasing questions that emerge. The twisting threads must all somehow be connected, but what does human trafficking in Thailand, a plane that crashed right after takeoff, an attorney’s ex-husband and teen niece, and an investigative reporter (among numerous other details) have in common? Cara Putnam knows how to weave a powerful story and how to craft interesting, realistic, and vulnerable characters. This book rips scenarios from modern life and uses them as background for her mystery novel, making the fiction seem totally believable. The painful circumstances included in the text still allow hope to rise within. The fast-paced thriller makes you want to keep reading right through to the end. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.

Story Notes

Cara Putman brings readers a tangled web of a story that will have your mind spinning through all the possibilities and hoping everything will work out well in the face of such incredible tragedy.

This book was honestly one of the most interesting and tough books I’ve read in a while. It’s also been some time since I read Ms. Putman’s last book so I had to remind myself of the characters from earlier books but it was the plot of the story that really made things hard. It was very well done but it seemed like nothing was really going to go well for the main character of this book, no matter how much she tried. The story begins in the office of Savannah Daniels, attorney at law. She is representing a new technology company who is being sued over the rights of “origin of idea” for a prototype replacement for airplane black boxes. At first glance and even at second, it appears the claims are false and Mnemosyne are the clear owners of the technology in question. But opposing counsel is not giving up that easily so neither is Savannah. Add to this the unexpected arrival of investigative reporter Jett Glover of the Washington Source and Savannah’s life is becoming most interesting. Jett is working on a story involving Savannah’s ex-husband Dustin Tate but needs to find the missing piece to ensure he is telling the whole story. Jett is a man who doesn’t like to write stories that are untrue, given his father committed suicide over a false story written about him. So he is seeking out Savannah and others to make sure he portrays everyone exactly as they are. But Savannah can’t help Jett as she has no insight into Dustin’s life since their divorce years ago. Her only connection to him is through his daughter, her niece and she only tolerates him for Addy’s sake. But there is much more going on than either Jett or Savannah know and great tragedy is waiting just around the corner. When Dustin and others connected to him are found murdered after Jett’s story releases, they know there is much that no one knew about Dustin’s overseas activities and it must be discovered. Reluctantly working together brings Savannah and Jett closer together but they are both a bit jaded when it comes to friendship or love. Perhaps if they can find the answers they need to either clear or officially condemn Dustin and his friends, they might have a chance at seeing past their prejudices and hurt to a love neither of them expected. But they must work fast before more innocent people are killed by an avenger with a score to settle. I really enjoyed the depth and the darkness of this story. It wasn’t a happy, fluffy piece of reading. It was harsh, bitter, biting one that showed the raw emotions of what lies and deceit can cause. Savannah has made a good life for herself and is trying to help her niece but hasn’t really let go of her past. She is angry and resentful of Dustin and her reactions are ever so very human. But she has her faith to hold her up and while she knows she needs to forgive those who hurt her, she just hasn’t gotten to that point yet. Her fierce protection of her niece and desire to find the truth are what get her through the hard days and I found myself relating to her really well. It’s easy to talk about how we might forgive those who hurt us but it get so much harder when it’s those closest to us that have caused those hurts. I also connected well with Jett in his somewhat misguided search for truth. He didn’t have the whole story before he released it and that came back to bite him in the end. But each of them had a determination to make things right and I loved getting to go on that journey with them. Ms. Putman gave readers a chance to immerse themselves in a dark story that also had moments of light breaking through. This story may challenge readers to look deeper into themselves and see if there are people or instances in their own lives that they need to forgive and move beyond. She doesn’t say it’s easy, just that it’s possible if we let God work things out in our hearts and minds. I will certainly be recommending this story to others and hope they will find it as challenging and entertaining as I did. Looking forward to the next book from Ms. Putman!

This is a fast moving legal thriller that combines mystery, suspense, and romance while taking on difficult topics – journalistic integrity and human trafficking – and complex family relationships.
Savannah is a strong intelligent woman, whose family relationships are complex (and unusual). She relies on her faith to cope with difficult situations. A successful patent lawyer, her latest case involves a technology related to the aircraft industry. When a plane goes down with her ex-husband on it, Savannah (and this reader) can’t help wondering whether it is merely a coincidence. And so the questions begin.
Jett, on the other hand, is a self-righteous journalist with very strong feelings about “fake news” – he is determined to report nothing but the truth. Jett has published an expository piece on Savannah’s ex and his pals – making accusations that she has trouble accepting at face value. Given their conflicting opinions, it is no surprise that these two main characters disagree, despite the strong undercurrent of sexual tension between the two. Nonetheless, the two find they need to work together to discover the truth.
There is much more to this story than initially meets the eye. Surprises abound as the story unravels – with enough suspense to keep the pages turning way past my bedtime.

In Flight Risk, author Cara Putman transports the reader to the suburbs of Washington D.C. for an intriguing Legal Thriller / Romantic Suspense story that will keep the reader guessing and turning the pages.

Savannah Daniels is a successful attorney who has her hands full with a client's pending patent infringement case, while trying to take care of her drug addicted sister and her teenage niece.

Jett Glover is an investigative reporter with the Washington Source newspaper. When his article exposes a scandalous sex trafficking ring consisting of star baseball pitcher, Logan Donnelly; ex-baseball player, Evan Spencer; Savannah's ex-husband, pilot Dustin Tate; and an un-named fourth person; the collateral damage from the expose is stunning. The ensuing chain of events spawned from the article includes a tragic commercial plane crash, deceptive technical software, and a mysterious person avenging personal justice from the four involved in the scandal, leads Jett and Savannah to team up in search for truth and justice.

Author Cara Putman weaves a fast-paced and suspenseful tale written in the third person narrative that follows Jett and Savannah's investigative mission to uncover the truth, and bring justice to the tragedies stemming from his expose. I loved how Savannah and Jett's troubled pasts become intertwined with an unexpected attraction that is sparked between them, and the chance to build trust allows them to work really well as a team seeking hidden truths.

I loved reading this action-packed story. Savannah and Jett kept me intrigued as their investigative teamwork was put to the test. The reader will be easily drawn into this well written story with its richly descriptive plot that will keep them guessing as secrets, possible motives, and clues are uncovered, while unexpected twists and turns, and a surprising conclusion will leave the reader simply stunned.

Flight Risk has enough drama, tension, action, dark secrets, a touch of romance, and unexpected twists and turns that will take the reader on one heck of a thrilling roller coaster ride.

I enjoyed this fast-paced suspenseful novel with a touch of legal thriller to it. Savannah is an attorney who is still recovering from her husband’s betrayal. But when a reporter, Jett, accuses him in print of being part of a sex-trafficking ring, she can’t believe it. Things start spiraling out of control and Savannah finds herself working with Jett to figure out the truth. It’s an unlikely pairing but they come to appreciate each other.
There were a few spots where the villain’s mindset came through. It felt to me that there should have been a lot more of this if it was going to be included. It sometimes switched perspectives abruptly.
The parts of the book that dealt with Savannah’s case were a little slower but I think that adds to the feel of the laboriousness of the task of wading through documents. So I didn’t really mind that.
I enjoyed the action, the suspense, the twists and urgency. It was a good read. Thank you to Thomas Nelson for providing me with a free e-copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

A well-crafted, multi-layered, page-turning legal suspense thriller with a bit of romance. I highly recommend this story. I read it in record time as I could not stop turning pages! If you've read best selling author Cara Putman's excellent Hidden Justice series, some of the characters make cameo appearances in Flight Risk! If you haven't, you need to put them on your to-be-read list!

My favorite line in Flight Risk is a realization that Savannah Daniels has during a moment of crisis. "Even in the absence of peace, she had a choice. Trust God or take control."

The devastation of human trafficking is clearly shown in a father who goes down the wrong path of vengeance. One of the themes that give us hope is that all is not as it appears. The main characters Savannah, a lawyer, and law office owner, and Jett a newspaperman encounter anxious uncertainty, life, and death in their search of the truth. You don't want to miss it!

Somehow Savannah Daniels and Jett Glover find themselves fighting the same battle by righting wrongs that go back years. Savannah is a very successful attorney and Jett is a journalist. Can the two put their difficult pasts behind them and expose hidden truths, all while bringing down a sex trafficking ring?

Jett and Savannah cross paths when the biggest story of Jett's career goes to press. Unfortunately, his story set of a huge chain of events, including the crash of a commercial airplane, with countless lives lost. One of the men who died in the crash was Savannah's ex and they both must work together to bring truth to light.

This thriller delivers a hard punch and is contains tightly woven stories that all come together at pivotal points. This compelling story was finely balanced with deeply emotional moments. Along the way, Savannah realizes that trusting Jett just might lead to a satisfying future. This certainly does not come easy for either of them. I found this story impossible to put down and loved the many layers that were slowly unraveled the deeper I got into the story. Cara Putnam is a new name for me, and I definitely want to see what else she has in store for readers.

Many thanks to Thomas Nelson and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Truth.....what is it? Savannah Daniels, attorney, is trying to find out the truth about her ex-husband whois accused of sex trafficking and then commits suicide. She is also trying to find out the truth about how a new black box invention mysteriously shows up on a plane that crashes. Jett Glover, reporter, is trying to discover the truth when the three men he accuses of sex trafficking die unexpectedly. To discover the truth behind all of these things, Savannah and Jett must work together before the enemy destroys even more. Flight Risk is full of intrigue, suspense, and a touch of romance.

Cara Putman is an author that is on my 'must-read' list. When I first heard of this book, I eagerly looked forward to reading it, and it did not disappoint!

If you've read some of her previous novels, the ones from the Justice series, you will find yourself becoming reacquainted with some familiar characters. The main character is Savannah, but I enjoyed meeting up with Hayden, Emilie, and Jaime again.

Savannah loves her niece Addy dearly, but the family dynamics are quite complicated. When Addy's father, who is also Savannah's ex-husband is implicated in a news article, everything gets heated very fast.
Danger. Evil. Tragedy. Death. So much action, and somehow, it all seems to tie together, perhaps even with the case Savannah is working on with clients, a case that initially at least, seemed to be completely separate from everything else.

Yes, this review sounds a bit disjointed and confusing. I'm still trying to process it all in my mind! Everything happens so fast, and I found myself reading at break-neck speeds just to see what would happen next!

If you enjoy action, especially action packed legal thrillers, than you won't want to miss this one!

Savannah is an attorney whose ex-husband Dustin had gotten involved with Savannah’s sister and produced her niece Addy. Addy is the light of her life and she basically takes care of her most of the time because Addy’s mother is an addict.

Jett is a reporter who breaks a sex trafficking story involving a famous baseball player player and his friends including Savannah’s ex-husband Dustin. Soon after there is a plane crash involving two of the ring and a problem for one of Savannah’s clients. Savannah and Jett team up to figure out why there are so many unexplained factors in this tragedy and they begin to unravel some of the research that was done for Jett’s article.

This is a great mystery and it is a page-turner. I recommend it to all my friends who like this genre.
