You can’t have love without truth. Jett has always sought truth, but what happens if he gets everything wrong?
At some point, you have to make a choice to trust and believe. Savannah has been thrown curve ball after curve ball, and she still has to choose to believe that God can work all things for the good.
Although there is the potential for happily ever after, the road is not paved with rainbows and rose petals. Love is hard. It takes work, and Cara Putman shows that through the relationships and the ups and downs in Flight Risk.
Even the best intentions can hurt those you love. Sometimes, there is no right answer. No matter what you do, someone is going to get hurt. That doesn’t mean you hide the truth. Savannah and Jett had such a unique situation in Flight Risk. It was difficult to see how everything would work out between them after all the chaos. That’s part of what makes this such a delightful book. You’re rooting for these two people every step of the way.
Jett first came across as crass and almost unlikable. He’s a reporter, but there were times when he pushed things too far. Savannah had no qualms calling him out for the behavior though, which I thought was a fantastic move for her character.
The elements of faith and romance were blended so well across the pages I had a hard time separating them, and the book is better for it.
Legal suspense that leaves you guessing till the very end.
I requested a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. I was not required to leave a positive review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
This is the first book I've read by this author but now I'm hooked so it wont be the last! This story takes you to the Beltway - Washington DC. It takes you into the lives of lawyers and reporters and law enforcement. That might sound like a dry subject but the author makes the main characters come alive and makes them real people with complicated personal lives that will have you caring for them and wanting to know what is going to happen to them. Also, you will want to know who the "bad guys" are! Savannah is an attorney but she is pulled in so many different directions that I wanted to take her into my home and just give her a day off! How she handled so many balls in the air was a mystery to me! She was amazing! Jett is the reporter and he is haunted by his father's suicide because of a false report so he vows to always write the truth but when he writes the story of a lifetime, he begins to find out there might be another side to it. Savannah's niece is as sweet as they come and you feel for her and she is put in some adult situations that she shouldn't have to deal with! There is a plane crash, possible sex trafficking, shady clients, a car crash, undercover work, and so much going on all the time! It's a story that will have you hesitating to put the book down at any time! It's a definite recommendation from me!
A mystery that focuses on the importance of truth in reporting, not rushing to judgement, and taking risks.
The main character, Savannah Daniels, is an attorney who is helping a company navigate through arbitration and a lawsuit with their new technology. She has a complicated "family" situation as her ex-husband, Dustin Tate, fathered a daughter with Savannah's sister. Savannah's niece is Addy, and is not well looked after by her mother, Stasi. A reporter is hot on a story involving Dustin Tate and some friends of his who often travel to Thailand and are suspected of trafficking young girls. In a twist, as the expose is released after much fact-checking by the reporter, Jett Glover, three of the people involved in the Thailand escapades end up dead. NO SPOILERS.
This was OK but bogged down with way too much romance and has a very Christian tone. Those two features sort of overpowered the actual plot and story line which I thought was going to be more a legal thriller or a suspenseful mystery. It was a quick, easy read.
2.5 stars raised because I hope this is a standalone and not part of any series. Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Publishers for this e-book ARC to read and review.
Flight Risk by Cara Putman is a great legal thriller...suspense, murder, mystery, and a bit of romance, a reader who loves legal thrillers couldn't ask for more. The characters are strong, realistic, and relatable. I loved Savannah's relationship with her niece. Lots of action keeps the pages turning. Contemporary issues of human-trafficking and alcoholism are addressed with finesse. I really enjoyed the book and am hoping this might be the start of a series. Siiri Scott did a great job with narration, which made for an enjoyable listening experience. I listened to a library copy of the audiobook and was not required to write a review.
Flight Risk was a fun romantic legal thriller!
This book was filled with so many layers that flowed together flawlessly, keeping my mind engaged through its entirety. It did not read like your typical legal thriller as most of the mystery takes place outside the courtroom so to speak. Cara Putman explains the legal terms used in an easy to understand verbiage without the information losing its intended meaning. All the while weaving several different plots together for the makings of one cohesive story.
I loved the main character Savannah; she showed a strength that I want to have in my own life. Her reactions to the situations presented were genuinely believable and seemed to fit the situations well. Jett was also a good character who had an encouraging spirit and would do anything to find the truth; something I admire. I enjoyed the themes of learning from our past mistakes and never judging a book by its cover, I though Cara Putman did a great job putting those themes at the forefront throughout the book. I did feel that the end was rushed, as everything happened so quickly, there was just something missing at the end; that is not to say that there isn’t a good ending 😊.
I give this book 4 out of 5 stars for the depth of the characters, the great layered storyline, and the themes presented. I enjoyed this book and I recommend reading it.
*I volunteered to read this book in return for my honest feedback. The thoughts and opinions expressed within are my own.
What I like most about this author is her ability to write books that are multilayered with intrigue, incredible characters and fast action. It is nice to read a story where you are kept guessing to the end. The author is good at developing the story with danger that starts slow and increases as the pages turn. There is nothing simple about this story.
Savannah is a very smart lawyer who has her hands full with a sister who is usually unstable and a niece that needs her help. Her ex-husband is mixed up in something that is unthinkable. When Jett was introduced I wasn’t quite sure I liked him. As a news reporter he is certainly a go getter. His thirst to get a big story may cost him his life. He soon redeems himself in my eyes when he is determined to find the truth.
The story deals will a plane crash that has ties to Savannah’s ex-husband and her clients. I loved the technology in the book and it is obvious that the author did her research for this book. I don’t want to forget the other mystery in the book. Savannah has clients that are trying to sort out a patent infringement which ties to a plane crash which ties to well you will have to read the book to find out.
Savannah and Jett work together to unravel the mystery while developing a friendship. Will their friendship lead to something more? Can Savannah tear down her walls and start to trust again? What does a plane crash, a new technology and Savannah's ex-husband have in common? What is in Thailand that would cause people to risk their lives for? The author connects the dots with twists that make this story one of her best to date. Get ready for an adventure that digs into the underbelly of human trafficking, secrets, the FBI and stolen technology.
The truth shall set you free.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
You begin to see that history for Jett’s family is repeating itself, and because of his article things start to go horribly wrong, but why?
The author gives us two very strong characters here, one a lawyer, Savannah Daniels, and the other a star reporter Jett Glover, and how they are thrown together.
You won’t see a lot of what happens coming, your kept on the edge of your seat, and yes, there is a lot of action here. We have sadly murders, and plane crashes, along with human trafficking, and more!
I love this author’s reads, always know I’m in for a great story, and this one doesn’t disappoint!
I received this book through Celebrate Lit, and was not required to give a positive review
Attorney Savannah Daniels and reporter Jett Glover reluctantly team together to find out the truth about an alleged sex-trafficking ring and a series of mysterious deaths of people implicated in the scandal. When Savannah's niece (her ex's daughter with her sister) is targeted, Savannah must get to the bottom of the issue and Jett must face the possibility that his breakout article may have been a big mistake,
This Christian-thriller was an interesting roller coaster ride. I became invested in the characters and their lives, truly fearing for them when they faced danger. The ending isn't predictable, but it does fit in with the rest of the book and is realistic.
I would definitely read another book by this author.
**Thank you to NetGalley and Celebration Literary blog tours for providing me with a review copy of this book.**
Wow! If you love romantic suspense books than this one is for you! This book will keep you on your toes throughout as you go on this wild chase to discover the truth. I love Ms. Putman’s books and this will one is even more intriguing and thrilling. This book gives readers more insight in Savannah. The other main character is Jett, who is a reporter, whose sole purpose is to report the truth. When he realizes what he published is having an impact on people being harmed, he questions what is going on. Savannah and Jett must race to the finish to determine what is going on and what is true and what is not. Be prepared to stay up all night to finish this exemplary, multi-faceted story! I highly recommend this book and know you will not be disappointed! I also recommend her other books as well.
***I was given a free electronic copy of this book from the publisher. This is my honest opinion. Even though I received this copy free, this is my own opinion.
I have been a fan of Cara Putnam’s for quite a while now, so when I saw she had a new release, I knew I had to jump at the chance to read it. And just like her other stories, this one had me hooked from the start. What I love about this story is how everyone and everything seems totally unrelated when you first start reading. But by the time you get to the end, somehow everything gets pieced together in ways you didn’t expect, and it just make you want to reread it and see what you missed!
Savannah is a great character who relies on the Lord. My favorite part of the whole book was when she was praying for God to help her forgive her sister and extend grace on a daily basis. This was a beautiful example of how we all should be! There are people that I interact with daily that may not be an alcoholic, but do things that bother me and upset me. I am quick to get upset, and not quick to pray and ask for the strength to forgive and offer grace. In the midst of the legal turmoil, and investigation of what was happening with Savannah’s ex-husband, this piece just really jumped out at me. I love it when authors are able to include such a wonderful message in their stories!
Putnam also delivers an exciting story that had me on the edge of my seat. There were twists and turns that I didn’t see coming, and I read probably the last third of the book in one sitting. The interesting part of this book was the inclusion of the POV from the villain. I really enjoy seeing where their mind is at, and how they think they are in the “right” by doing the things they are doing.
Legal suspense fans will enjoy this book. The romance is pretty light, which I actually liked because it made me focus on the characters and their situation more, instead of worrying about who liked who and why lol. But it is there, with an ending that I found satisfying. I hope to see more of these characters in the future, even if they are secondary characters!
I received a complimentary copy of this book and was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Flight Risk is a complicated and twisted story with many different plots that converge in a thrilling end. Savannah is a modern-day heroine who never gives up. The author makes the legalese interesting and compelling.
Cara Putman has given me several enjoyable evenings of reading which is why I wanted to read Flight Risk though I knew I would dislike one aspect of the plot ... The fact that Savannah was divorced. And yes, I disliked that part of the book but it didn't take too much enjoyment away from the book.
I have been intrigued by Mrs. Putman's suspense, even though the characters have professions that I know next to nothing about, like lawyers as Savannah was in this novel.
Touching on hard subjects such as sex trafficking, suicide, and murder this is a hard to put down suspense that will have you on the edge of your seat!
I have to lower my rating of Flight Risk due to my dislike of some content that I felt didn't have a redemptive ending.
I really liked the journalism side of the book, it was really informative!
Those that have read the author's previous books will enjoy Flight Risk, as will readers who have enjoyed Lynette Eason, Dani Pettrey, and Dee Henderson's books.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
I have enjoyed this series that features a group of young women, friends who are attorneys living in Washington, DC. Flight Risk is the story about their mentor, Savannah Daniels. She has gradually encouraged some of the young women to join her law firm where they each have a different specialty and yet are a close knit group of women who work together to help each other out professionally as well as personally. Savannah is turning forty as the story starts out but it isn't such a fun day when her ex-husband Dustin Tate is featured in a newspaper article in a negative story to suggest some bad moral choices. Savannah can't believe it is true and Dustin insists it isn't. Dustin and Savannah's sister had a daughter as a result of a fling fourteen years ago. Savannah is very close to her niece and cares for her while her sister deals with her own issues.
When tragedy strikes and events amp up, Savannah works with the reporter Jett Glover to find answers. She is also working with clients on a case that might somehow tie in with events going on.
This story has suspense, danger, and mystery while interspersed with faith, overcoming old hurts, and some romance. I enjoyed reading Savannah's emotional story with real, believable characters and a great setting.
I received a complimentary ARC from Thomas Nelson Publishing through NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine only.
"Some sins soap didn't touch."
Flight Risk is a legal thriller with an underlying mystery that made for an intense storyline. I've loved Putman's books, but did find it took me a bit to catch onto this storyline. However, once I did, I was hooked. I believe this is due to multiple viewpoints and multiple storylines. So, know going into it, you have to get a grip on the characters and their stories first. Then the book really takes off. It was fun seeing Savannah Daniel's friends from the Hidden Justice series pop up in this new spin-off that can be read as a standalone. Savannah is a strong female character with too many irons in the fire as the story heats up, but that leads to her realizing she doesn't want to go through it alone. Jett Glover is a man driven for truth as an investigative journalist, but his article isn't adding up and the body count is rising. He has a hero's heart drawing him more and more to wanting to help Savannah, her niece and finding the truth. I love his heart and how much he puts into thinking about whats best for Savannah. Their romance isn't necessarily traditional, but that made it even better as Savannah understandably can't stand him before ever meeting him. I loved how Putman wrapped everything up in the ending, too. She gave such hope.
"Even in the absence of peace, she had a choice. Trust God or take control."
There were so many intricate details to this book, that it is hard to capture it all in a review. However, I think the essence of the story is finding peace in the midst of all the chaos. As Savannah learns to move on from the past and how to trust again, Jett is learning to live outside of his work. I love Savannah's heart for her niece and wanting what is best for her. There is also an underlying thread of human trafficking and it's impacts. Though, I can't speak too much about this without giving away some of the story. I found it very inspirational and yet, hard to see the lasting effects. Beautifully written with a powerful message of overcoming hardships, not necessarily all happy ending, but dealing with the truth of humanity.. Fans of this book would love Cara Putman's Hidden Justice series.
I was given an advanced reader copy of Flight Risk by the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions given in this review are my own.
This is another good novel from Putnam centering on legal issues. The characters are well drawn as flawed yet with good intentions. Two story threads are intertwined as a reporter intent on uncovering evil behavior interacts with a lawyer intent on protecting clients with innovative software. The reporter's story emphasizes the power of words and the effect they have on the reputation of others. The lawyer's story emphasizes the cutthroat nature of developing and protecting new inventions. Another issue includes keeping teens safe from harm, whether from dysfunctional family members or evil men bent on using them for pleasure. Yet another issue is suicide and its lasting effects, something potential readers should be aware of.
Putnam's novel is a good one for for readers who like plots centering on legal procedure. I wish there had been more clues to the villain sprinkled throughout the book, such as the significance of one character's last name. There is only one scene of intense suspense near the end, otherwise the pace is consistent and the romance reasonable.
I received a complimentary egalley of this book through Celebrate Lit. My comments are an independent and honest review.
Finding truth in a fake news world.
What is truth? The tension never quits in another fabulous legal thriller penned by this author. Two story lines intertwine in this page-turning suspense. Jett Glover, reporter, prides himself in reporting only the truth. He spends many long hours researching each story making sure his information is correct and true. How then can he accept that his article may have ramifications that are totally unexpected? Savannah Daniels is a very good lawyer currently with a patent infringement suit that seems to morph into something much bigger with each new day. If they work together will they solve both of these mysteries?
Between intrigue, mystery, human trafficking and unexpected danger you will not put this down until you figure out who or what is behind this all. The author does a fine job of keeping the reader in the dark - I will admit it took some time before I thought I knew who was behind it all. I highly recommend this book! What a fabulous way to spend a day.
I received an ARC through Thomas Nelson, HarperCollins Christian Publishing, NetGalley and CelebrateLit. The impressions and comments are my own and were in no way solicited.
I just could not get into this book. The writing was choppy and all over the place and the dialogue just didn't feel natural to me.
Everyone’s in a panic after a plane crashes soon after takeoff. Was it an accident or terrorist attack? The author does a good job of showing how fear colors people’s reactions because of events like what happened on Sept 11th or something similar The author drew on her own experiences of Sept 11th in writing this story as she worked at a court near the White House at the time, and of a crash that occurred near her home in 1982 on the 14th street bridge. That plane used a new technology to determine why the plane went down. This helped spark a tension filled story line I found fascinating. It brought a depth to the story and the characters I could feel.
Cara Putman is an attorney (in real life), who uses her experience to develop a realism and believability in her characters I liked. I was also blown away by the sophistication involving multiple plots which had unexpected twists and turns I didn’t see coming. The topics covered in this character-driven story, create a high-octane excitement and some memorable moments I enjoyed.
Savannah Daniels is a power horse of an attorney who is great at her job but not so great in the love department. She has a case that will make or break her practice. Can she weather the storm? She doesn’t think so after talking to Jett Glover whose gathering facts about a situation involving Savannah’s ex-husband. The information he seeks are ones about an operation set up to “victimize young girls” in other countries.
Savannah can’t believe the news about the plan crash and quickly runs to help her niece who happens to be her ex-husbands daughter. It’s complicated. Savannah starts digging to find evidence of Jeff’s story on her own. Could it be true? The more she digs the more she realizes the danger she’s in. Who could she trust? After receiving a life-threatening warning, she seeks the aid of Jett Glover’s. He’s a man who re-checks the evidence to make sure his bottom line – is true before it’s published. Jett and Savannah’s worlds collide when they get a call about her ex-husband’s house being surrounded by police. She drops everything to help and gets caught up in perilous situation she didn’t see coming.
What Savannah and Jetts’ find in their investigation leads to a string of unfortunate events. Author says she wanted to explore, “How you find truth in a fake news world?” in this novel. This is a powerful story that quickly draws you in with characters you care about and a story I couldn’t stop reading. This rich novel would work great for you next book club pick. This is a story and author you won’t want to miss.

This was a very interesting and intriguing story. There were several different storylines happening all throughout this book, and the author did a fantastic job of tying everything together at the end. I had great sympathy with Savannah and her niece, and felt that Savannah showed great courage and character as she tried to take care of her family and her law clients. I enjoyed reading this book.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
Savannah Daniels has worked hard to build her law practice, to surround herself with good friends, and to be the loyal aunt her troubled niece can always count on. But since her ex-husband’s betrayal, she has trouble trusting anyone.
Jett Glover’s father committed suicide over a false newspaper report that ruined his reputation. Now a fierce champion of truth, Jett is writing the story of his journalism career—an international sex-trafficking exposé that will bring down a celebrity baseball player and the men closest to him, including Savannah’s ex-husband.
When Jett’s story breaks, tragedy ensues. Then a commercial airline crashes, and one of Savannah’s clients is implicated in the crash. Men connected to the scandal, including her ex, begin to die amid mysterious circumstances, and Savannah’s niece becomes an unwitting target.
Against their better instincts, Jett and Savannah join ranks to sort the facts from fiction. But can Savannah trust the reporter who threw her life into chaos? And can Jett face the possibility that he’s made the biggest mistake of his life?
Another great book by Ms Putman. There is a plot but several sub plots that all tie together in the end. There are several surprises as well. Savannah was hurt in her past marriage so she has trouble trusting men. Let alone a journalist. Jett is a journalist who wants to print nothing but the truth. His father committed suicide due to false journalism. Jett publishes a story that starts an avalanche of suspense. The more that happens, he begins to question whether his facts were all true. Savannah and Jett have to work together to get to the truth. I recommend this book to all suspense fans.
I was given this book by Thomas Nelson Publishers via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.
