I really like Cara Putman's books and this one was good. I liked getting to know Savannah and her history having been introduced to her in Cara's other books as a mentor. The book had lots of layers to it and I wasn't sure where it would end. Jeff was a solid character who was after the truth and determined to get it. I loved how caring and protecting Savannah was of her niece and how she would do anything to help her. I felt like in a sense there was multiple stories within the book but all were connected and easy to follow.
I love that with this story we get Savannah's story, after enjoying that of some of her friends. I loved getting to know her and reading this mystery!
I love Cara Putman's Hidden Justice series. I was over the moon excited when I saw she had a new book coming out and jumped at the chance to read it. Putman has a wonderful writing style that is easy and fast paced to read. I love how she makes you feel all the emotions between love, romance, danger and intrigue and does so in a tasteful manner. She tackles some tough subject matter in Flight Risk with human trafficking and does so in a way that shows dignity and that good can overcome evil when we have God at the center of our lives. I personally love that she is not afraid to write about that!!
This book can be read as a stand alone book. However, like the other books in the series, the storyline is jam packed with action, extremely strong, complex characters and the strength of faith to work through your struggles. It's an engaging book I'm sure you will enjoy. Once you read this one, you will want to read the others in this series. Very excited to see more work from this author. Highly recommend!!!
My thanks to Cara Putman, Thomas Nelson Publishing and netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
This book is part legal thriller, part suspense, and full of high-stakes action! With complex characters and an intricately woven plot, Cara Putman has cemented her position as one of my go-to suspense authors. The main characters in the story are a lawyer and an investigative reporter, allowing the story to be told in a unique way. The development of their relationship - from antagonistic, to begrudgingly working together, to friendship and eventually more - feels genuine and natural. I appreciated that they are a little older than main characters typically are in this genre; their life experiences and past struggles make the story much richer, and their romance is based on a foundation of friendship that makes sense with their story.
As with any good suspense novel, there is much more to the story than what meets the eye, and the discovery at the end of who was behind it all was just as shocking to me as it was to the characters!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
A legal thriller on two fronts - the first was brought by a client of Savannah Daniels that was being sued by a competitor for stealing programming code for a new technology for gathering data from planes in flight. The other came about when a reporter, Jett Glover, wrote an exposé pointing out that Savannah Daniels ex-husband was actively involved in child trafficking out of Thailand.
But Savannah Daniels and Jett Glover find they have more in common than just the one case. By the final chapter, they would both be putting their lives on the line. The result is an exciting faith-based thriller that will hold the reader’s attention without fail.

If you’ve read Cara Putman’s Hidden Justice trilogy, you may want to read Flight Risk. Savannah Daniels, the enigmatic lawyer friend of the characters in Beyond Justice, Imperfect Justice, and Delayed Justice, now has her own story.
After a failed marriage, Savannah Daniels finds it difficult to trust anyone. She lives to protect her niece, build her law practice, and serve her clients. When a Jett Glover, a journalist, visits with questions about her ex-husband and his friends, Savannah worries that the story he plans on breaking will hurt her niece.
Jett Glover, whose father committed suicide after an untrue story ruined his career, fights for truth like a bulldog. His due diligence and fact-checking have uncovered a sensational story involving a supposedly clean-cut baseball star and his three partying friends.
Once the story breaks, a string of events makes both Savannah and Jett wonder what kind of evil the story unleashed. They form an unlikely team to get to the bottom of the tragedies.
Fast-paced with well-developed characters, Putman’s latest legal thriller will keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. Cameo appearances by characters from the Hidden Justice trilogy make the scene and setting seem like home.
Bestselling author Cara Putman returns with a romantic legal thriller that will challenge the assumptions of truth tellers everywhere.Savannah Daniels has worked hard to build her law practice, to surround herself with good friends, and to be the loyal aunt her troubled niece can always count on. But since her ex-husband’s betrayal, she has trouble trusting anyone.Jett Glover’s father committed suicide over a false newspaper report that ruined his reputation. Now a fierce champion of truth, Jett is writing the story of his journalism career—an international sex-trafficking exposé that will bring down a celebrity baseball player and the men closest to him, including Savannah’s ex-husband.When Jett’s story breaks, tragedy ensues. Then a commercial airline crashes, and one of Savannah’s clients is implicated in the crash. Men connected to the scandal, including her ex, begin to die amid mysterious circumstances, and Savannah’s niece becomes an unwitting target.Against their better instincts, Jett and Savannah join ranks to sort the facts from fiction. But can Savannah trust the reporter who threw her life into chaos? And can Jett face the possibility that he’s made the biggest mistake of his life?
I'd never personally read a book by Cara Putman before I picked up Flight Risk, but as a huge fan of the Christian suspense genre, she's an author I've had recommended to me quite a few times. After finishing this one in almost one sitting, I can wholeheartedly say that I will be on the lookout for more of her books in the future.
Flight Risk is a legal thriller that combines several different components into one big tangled web of deceit that will keep readers guessing through every single plot twist and turn. Savannah Daniels owns her own prominent law firm, and she's currently in the middle of a big case involving airplane technology. She's already got a lot on her plate, including the constant care of her sister and her niece, who also happens to be the daughter of her ex-husband. When journalist Jett Glover writes an expose piece on Savannah's ex-husband's involvement with two of his friends in a human-trafficking case, the two are thrown together in the aftermath. The article is attracting attention everywhere it goes, and sinister events are following in its wake. Rumors begin to swirl that the article wasn't the whole truth, and that hits a little too close to home for Jett. He and Savannah will stop at nothing to get to the truth once and for all, even if there's someone out there who will stop at nothing to keep it from ever seeing the light of the day.
With a heart pounding mystery, prose that is both engaging and gripping, and characters that are truly well rounded and a pleasure to read about it, Flight Risk is truly a fantastic read from start to finish. The backstory will tug at every reader's emotions, and you'll be on the edge of your seat as new twists and turns happen around every corner. I found myself rooting for both Savannah and Jett, and their similar qualities in wanting to protect those closest to them, and get to the truth in every situation. With a focus on the negative outcome of journalism, and the need for integrity, especially in the age of social media, I truly think this is a story that's going to appeal to a wide variety of readers.
My only personal complaint is that I would have liked to have seen a bit more of the developing romance between Savannah and Jett, but I was happy with the bits the reader is given, and with the fact that the author did not choose to go with the insta-love trope, which I personally am never a fan of.
Flight Risk is a gripping read that will have readers truly wound up tight in the well paced and well plotted mystery, and questioning every character at one point or another. Even though I had figured out some of the mystery, I was still blown away by the final reveals; a fact that I loved.
Definitely pick this one up if you're a fan of Christian suspense stories as I can guarantee you won't be disappointed.
Final Rating: 4/5
Thanks so much to Thomas Nelson and NetGalley for the opportunity to advance read this!
I received a complimentary advance reader copy of this novel from the publisher (Thomas Nelson) via NetGalley to read and review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I was not required to give a positive review.
I’ve read several books by this author and have typically enjoyed them. She wrote a series featuring female lawyers in the DC area, and I enjoyed them.
This book was a stand-alone but one of the main characters as well as some incidental characters were from that series I mentioned.
I guess it was just me, but I didn’t feel this book measured up to that series, either in its writing style or plot. It was good, and I read the whole book, but I was a bit disappointed.

Cara Putman has done it again!
Her just released book, Flight Risk, is outstanding!
A fast paced suspenseful story. What a web of interlocking storylines, all very interesting and well done.
For lovers of suspense and romance.
I highly recommend this book.

This story is all about truth. A reporter publishes a story he has fact-checked. A young girl is devastated by the facts about her father. A lawyer (ex-wife) finds it hard to believe the facts as presented. Then the story advances as we learn about murder, sex trafficking, and airline black boxes. Putnam puts all the disparate parts together in a suspenseful read. Nice to see some of Putnam’s “Hidden Justice” folks show up in this novel. Excellent story that leaves the reader thinking about the many facets of truth.
I have enjoyed reading Cara Putmans' legal thrillers. Her new murder mystery Flight Risk has an important storyline involving the critical global problem of sex trafficking. For this reason, it is a significant story to consider. Unfortunately, with the frequent switchbacks between the storylines of the main characters along with the murderers' thoughts, it wasn't straightforward to follow. Those more familiar with legal murder mysteries might enjoy this. I am grateful to Netgalley and to the publisher for an ARC of the novel for this, my honest review.
Filled with suspense, heart-wrenching moments and a reminder of the power of words to hurt, betray and mislead. When journalist Jett Glover creates a “thoroughly” fact-checked expose, he discovers that even as a warrior for truth he can make mistakes and they can be deadly.
Savannah Daniels, a successful attorney, becomes enmeshed in a heartbreaking drama when her ex-husband is “exposed” as a child trafficker, thanks to Jett. Now she is affected in both a personal and painful way, as she refuses to believe the man she once loved could be such a vile monster. It didn’t help that she finds herself attracted to the reporter, who proves he is as dedicated to the truth as he was his byline above the fold.
Well written, filled with strong character development and a plot that will pierce every emotion, this is as much an indictment against slanted journalism as it is a cry for restraint on invading personal privacy because of the ramifications that cannot be forgotten. The truth will set you free, unless it is too late.
FLIGHT RISK by Cara Putman is a gripping read that will hold one’s attention from start to finish.
I received a complimentary ARC edition from Thomas Nelson Fiction. This is my honest and voluntary review.

I received this ARC from Net Galley and Thomas Nelson Publishers. I love Christian, mystery/thrillers. I found the story line slightly confusing, but I still would recommend it for other readers. I am a librarian and many of our patrons ask for books like this one.
Thumbs up!
Savannah Daniels has made cameos in previous books by Cara Putnam but in Flight Risk, we get to know her better. She is smart and tenacious. she also loves her niece to distraction. So even if it means dealing with her ex-husband, she will do whatever it takes to keep her niece safe. I really enjoy reading Ms. Putman's books. They always contain strong women who depend on God. Ms. Putman also does a wonderful job of creating suspense and keeping me guessing until the last quarter of the book. I look forward to reading more of her creations in the future. So grab a glass of sweet5 tea and settle in for a great read.
I was given a copy of this book by NetGalley.com with no expectations. All thoughts are my own
This is a spin-off of the Hidden Justice series but can be enjoyed as a stand-alone. This book was a slow start for me with so much information to absorb to get into the story. Very legal with some things hard to understand. Lots of twists and turns so the reader will not see what's coming. With so much fake news going around today, this story is a testament to what can happen when the story is not what is appears to be. Recommended!
Cara Putman has crafted an interesting story with great mild suspense. I very much enjoyed Jett and Savannah as characters, however the storyline was a little confusing to me. If you like a little suspense coupled with a little romance, this one is definitely worth a read.
Flight Risk was a tough read for me. I got to about 34% and gave up. But I kept seeing those good reviews for it and wondered what I had missed. So I started over again, from the beginning, and read it straight through. I continued to be put off by the writing. It just isn't top notch. Author Cara C. Putnam relies a lot on dialogue, and it is not her strong suite. The activity in the novel is often fuzzy. What annoyed me was the way she would be talking about one thing, then abruptly switch to the ramblings of the unnamed stalker, who turns out to be an FBI agent. Those passages are awkwardly placed and not well-written.
A concern I had while reading was the lack of likable characters. The Thailand trippers were supposedly up to no good, but constant reminders were laid that this was not an established fact. So I didn't like or not like them. Savannah was hard to like, and Addy and Stasi did not come close. Jett was a bit likable, but his role was so unclear, as if the author wanted to hide his motives and purpose.
All in all, I felt like I gave the novel a fair chance, but could not come away recommending it. Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC.
I have had the chance to read one or two of Cara Putnam's previous books and as a fan of Christian suspense, really enjoyed them. As such, I knew I had to read her newest book- Flight Risk.
While some books grab me right from the beginning, this one was a bit of a slow burn. Sure, there was plenty going on to grab my attention right from the start... but it took me just a bit longer to really feel invested in the lives of the character and the drama happening in that moment. While this could have just been based on my mood at the time of reading, I believe it was a combination of a few other factors. First, there was a lot going on to keep up with. Jett's article. Savannah's case. Her family. The plane crash. Was it related? How did it all go together? I also found myself a little confused as to some of the technical aspects of Savannah's case and exactly what this technology was and how it worked.
Still, it didn't keep me from enjoying the story. While I still can't say I ever completely understood the case aspects, it really didn't matter. And all those goings on and questions to how it all went together? Well, they did eventually draw me further into the story. I had to read on to see how it would end and to answer all my questions. And I'm so glad I did. There were some great twists and turns that had me guessing right through until the end. The suspense was great and had me at the edge of my seat, but of course I enjoyed the romance too. This one gives us just enough romance to satisfy the romantic in me, without being too much for those who just prefer the suspense... the perfect balance.
Overall, this was a great read with a unique mystery that kept me guessing. If you love a good suspense, this is one you'll want to check out!
**I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley for consideration. All thoughts are 100% my own.
I'm loving this new book! Part legal/part mystery with a smidge of possible romance sprinkled in. Great, strong female lead who doesn't back down nor crumble when life gets really, really tough. I will definitely look for more books by this author.
After finishing the book I came to realize that the legal and mystery sections were well crafted but the romantic sections (especially at the end) seemed contrived or at least somewhat awkward and unnecessary. Perhaps rework those bits?
