Coral Reef Views by Vicki Delany is an Ashley Grant Mystery. This story is a novella taking place after book 2 of the series. This is my first experience with Ashley Grant and it was a positive one. Ashley rides on an ambulance along with her partner Simon. They work on Victoria and Albert Island in the Caribbean. Ashley has been there for three months and her parents, who have recently retired, are there for a visit. A bit of a strain on her one bedroom apartment. It was manageable until her father started worrying about a man he'd met and seemed to have disappeared. He started asking questions people didn't appreciate.
Coral Reef Views was a fun little read. The characters were simple, but believable. Ashley's parents are like parents everywhere so any reader will identify. The crime was relatively simple but it took a little ingenuity to solve it. Ashley's father was like a dog with a bone, but it paid off. Her mother was the same with trying to fix Ashley up. A dog with a bone! This seems like an enjoyable series. Give it a try. I recommend it.

I enjoyed this novella! Vicki Delany always draws me into the story, and I look forward to reading all of her books. I enjoyed the setting, the characters and the suspense.
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I did not realize Vicki Delany had written so many books. I saw this on NetGalley and had to read it and I'm certainly glad I did. This is a wonderful, easy to read, Caribbean themed story. Ashley is an awesome, spunky character and she's a paramedic (medical relevance always draws me in). I absolutely recommend this book to everyone who enjoys a light, easy, quick mystery. Enjoy! 📚
This is a short book, more like a novella than a full length novel. The characters, while interesting, are not fully developed. The same can be said for the exotic location. Both characters and location seem interesting and the writing is good, I just wished there was more information so I had more opportunity to get into the book and the murder puzzle.
This is the third in a series, and it was interesting enough for me to consider going back and reading the first two novels. I liked Ashley, the protagonist, and especially enjoyed the portrayal of her parents and found myself wishing it was more in-depth. Ashley’s father is a perfect foil for sending her rushing all over the island and it would have been enjoyable to see even more of the contrast between him and Ashley’s mother, the “calm” member of the team.
Because the novel was so short, if felt as if the story moved from place to place and situation to situation without sufficient set-up. That made Ashley’s mother’s familiarity with high end jewels seem to be more convenient and contrived than what the reader expects.
My conclusion is that this is a great book to pick up if you have a mid to long flight or train ride, and want to start and finish the book in one sitting. It’s enjoyable, just too short to give the reader time to settle in for a good time. My thanks to Orca Books Publishing and NetGalley for providing me with an Advanced Digital Read copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
I've read many cozies, and usually they are predicable. Woman as hero? Check. Woman happens upon a murder? Check. Interesting and exotic setting? Check. Even though it followed the formula for a cozy read, this book was more refreshing and interesting than many I've read. I loved the setting and the interactions in the book. I believe this is part of a series, and I will be looking for more!
3.5 stars!
Ashley Grant is a paramedic on a Caribbean Island. When her parents come out to visit her, it has the potential to be a vacation of a lifetime... That is until something much sinister occurs.
In this cozy, atmospheric read set in a coastal town, you will see just how far someone you just met is willing to go to bring justice.
This is a cute little novella, about a paramedic who's parents are visiting her on Victoria Island and get involved in a murder investigation. The father meets the victim and becomes concerned when he doesn't show up as planned and then is found dead. He is stubbornly insistent on investigating the death and involves his daughter. Together they solve the mystery. The culprit is a little bit of a surprise. #CoralReefViews #NetGalley
Vicki Delaney writes good books, This is a quick read and will satisfy the customer who is looking for a gift for a teen or grandparent. Well-portrayed characters, good, strong plot and a fabulous setting. Highly Recommended
CORAL REEF VIEWS by Vicki Delany is the third book in the Ashley Grant mystery series. The story takes place in the Caribbean on the Victoria and Albert Islands. It worked as a stand-alone novel for me.
Ashley Grant is a paramedic that now lives and works in the Caribbean. Her Canadian parents visit her, but her recently retired father soon gets bored. He meets and makes friends with Paul McIntosh, another Canadian visiting the islands. When Paul disappears, Ashley’s father, Frank, is determined to find him and Ashley helps him.
Ashley, her boyfriend, and her parents are likeable characters, but there was not a lot of time for character development in this novella. However, their motivations seemed believable, with well-drawn and appropriate emotions and the plot was clear and well-executed. The prose was engaging and readable. The ending was satisfying, but not a surprise. I loved the cover and title, but it did not tie in to the story line.
Overall, this was a good book that was well-crafted and I would recommend it to those that want a short and concise, but entertaining amateur sleuth read.
Thanks to Orca Book Publishers and Vicki Delany for a digital ARC of this novel via NetGalley and the opportunity to provide an honest review. Opinions are mine alone and are not biased in any way.
