This is a quick read novella, about a woman who is dumped by her long time boyfriend. Devastated, she accepts an invitation to go with her aunt to Italy. While on a 7 day tour, she falls for the main love interest. Being such a short book, everything feels rushed. It was hard to feel any character development, but it was a sweet love story and I loved the Italian descriptions from the author.
This was different. I know it was a novella, and supposed to move quickly, but this was just ... different. I think I just wasn’t crazy about the writing style, it was a bit too amateur for me, and the storyline itself was a bit much.
I don’t know, it was quick and easy and fine, but not something I’d reread or really even remember.
The Italian Cure is a quick, cute story about a trip to Italy that is filled with several misadventures. The characters and plot are not as developed as I had expected-not realizing this was a rapid read book. Italy is a great backdrop for a cute romance that seemed to develop overnight for our protagonist Charlie. I would have enjoyed a story with flushed out characters and plot development but readers looking for a quick, rapid read will enjoy the Italian Cure.
Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and writer for this ARC in exchange for my honest feedback.
This is... not great. It had the potential- a failed engagement, a trip overseas, budding romance- but the writing was SO bad. It feels like it was written by someone much younger, and I’m thankful that it was only a novella instead of a full novel.
Giving this two stars is me being generous.

Rapid Italian tour with a touch of romance: lacks emotional substance🙄
🤔 This novella had a promising beginning but I never really felt any depth to the characters and heroine Charlie's constant misadventures seemed forced and not really humorous. The ending was rushed and just not realistic. Overall, the story was so simplistic that it was not for me. I would not say the writing style was bad, but it did not seem geared to an adult reader.
Thanks to Orca Publishers and NetGalley for providing a complimentary advance copy of the story; this is my voluntary and honest review.
Not my cup,of tea. I wasn't aware this was a rapid read novella. That's not really my thing, as I,prefer more developed characters, worlds and storylines. Beyond that the writing was simplistic, with short choppy sentences.
Way too short. it was cute, but felt poorly edited and was very short. I feel like it could have been expanded on quite a bit, or better yet put in an anthology of stories of similar length for light beach reading.
Enjoyable read which I sped through with enthusiasm and interest - a great pick me up and for me something of a cure for winter darkness!
Lively characters, good descriptions of the Italian sights and sites, and a genuine feel-good escape.
This is a heart-warming sweet novella. A very quick read. Restores your faith in people and certainly makes you want to go to Italy!
This was a cute and quick (too quick) of a read. I thoroughly enjoy stories with travel as they help me control my wanderlust and budget, but other than that, this felt like half a story. I did love every bit of it and a short read was just what I needed, but I feel that it could have done with another 30 pages or so. I loved the characters and their quirkiness, but I'd love more development and time with them.
This is a perfectly cute novella. When I began reading it, I had no idea that it was a novella so I was a bit put off by how rushed everything seemed, but if you take into consideration that it’s not supposed to be a full fledged book, it was okay. I still would have liked to see better execution, but the story was cute enough. The characters were interesting and there were some humorous moments. But all in all, I think the romance was too rushed.
This is a short and sweet novella. The writing isn't the most detailed, sentences are short and elementary. But it's Rome! I'm going to Italy this summer and can't wait, especially after reading this quick read.
This novella actually brought me down memory lane, as Charlie and her Aunt Del take off to Italy for a week in April. Nine years ago (time flies!), I also visited Italy during April! I fell deeply in love with the Colosseum, which was also mentioned.
Although this book is simplistic, it was a great read after what had been a long, long day. It also is exactly what it should be, given that it's part of the Orca series. If you aren't familiar with Orca books, they're meant to be appealing to ESL or reluctant readers. I've used them several times for independent reading in applied level classes, and they're always a hit!
If you're looking a sweet story of recovering from heartbreak and love quirky characters, consider The Italian Cure for a quick read. Thank you Netgalley for this advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
This was a quick read, more of a short story. The characters were likeable with a fun storyline. As with all short stories, there could have been more plot development and it was a little rushed, but I really enjoyed it. This could have easily been expanded into a longer novel.
The Italian Cure is a rapid read novella that follows Charlie as she and her Aunt Della travel around Italy. It is a light, easy and extremely quick read. However, I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would. I did not connect with the writing style which seemed very rushed and choppy and caused the character development to lack. The concept of the novella could definitely be amazing if it were further developed.
Many thanks to @netgalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I did not particularly enjoy this book. The concept was great and Charlie seemed like a character I could like, but nothing about the story or writing was well-developed. A story that should have spanned at least twice the amount of pages was jammed into a shirt package, giving the reader noti,e to really get to know Charlie or go on the journey with her. The writing also had to be very summary-based and non-descriptive. It felt a bit like teenage fanfiction instead of a romance.
I think this story had potential but should have been developed into a full novel.
A very speedy romance story.
Written as a quick read, this novella features Charlie, a woman who has been dumped by her boyfriend of seven years. Understandably reeling a bit in the aftermath, Charlie accepts an invitation to accompany her aunt on a guided holiday to Italy, hoping the Italian sunshine will cure her heartbreak.
Ok. I understand this was written as a quick read, and the tour only lasts seven days. But the love interest proclaims his love on day five. They have spoken to each other for maybe an hour. Maybe that doesn't bother most people, but for me that's ridiculously fast.
If you can ignore that part, or if it doesn't bother you, you'll find this a fast paced, charming, funny story. The author's note say that she normally writes crime and hasn't tried romance before, but I wouldn't have known. The writing is very smooth and assured.
A great read, if you ignore the instalove.
The concept of this book is interesting, however, the execution was poor.
1. I don't understand why this book was only ~100 pages - there was a lot more opportunity for a story with this idea.
2. The writing in this book felt a lot more YA than adult - I did not believe the main character was in her mid to late twenties the way she spoke or acted. The bad luck quirk she is cursed with came across more childish than funny; she brought a great deal of it on herself. It missed the mark for me. The writing also came across choppy with short unnecessary sentences
3. The romance was highly underdeveloped, and the ending came about so strangely and was completely unbelievable.
Even though this only took me an hour, I wish I hadn't bothered at all. Two stars only because I think the potential was there due to the concept of the book. Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I think it's fair to say this book was not for me. I didn't connect with the writing style, which felt rushed, or the characters, probably because it felt rushed.
There were some nice elements and funny lines but as a whole this was just way too short.
What an adorable heartbreak to love, love story.
I didn't realize this was a novella when I started it but I think it could really make for a great full length novel; the bones are that good.
When Charlie's happy ever after turns into heartbreak, she is given the chance of a lifetime: a week in Italy. Through lost baggage, spilled food and stolen property, Charlies learns that life doesn't have to be boring, the sun shines again and again, and love is worth believing in.
