I feel like this book was a missed opportunity. The novel with a fair bit of work and care could have been a very good to excellent domestic drama rather than a highly flawed kind of average psychological thriller.

Two girls are raised in a strict but loving home in North Dakota when a tragedy strikes. The two sisters are forever changed by this event and this leads to a cat and mouse revenge story in adulthood.

As a psychological thriller this was very readable but lacking in many ways including psychological congruency and plausibility. The characters are only partially drawn and the middle to ending becomes very quick paced with some reveals that are kind of interesting and kind of believable but only if you squint really hard.

I feel that as a family drama this could have been quite excellent by filling in the complexity of the characters, slowing down the plot and taking much greater care with the prose that has so much potential. The backstory was very poignant and wasted on the cheapness that is inherent in so many psychological thrillers.

I enjoyed this novel mildly but mostly felt the author went down the wrong country road.

5 stars - Want to read all Roz Nay's books after reading this one! Very intriguing, keeps the reader hooked, thrilling!

This is my first book by Roz Nay, but it won't be my last. I enjoyed this twisty psychological/domestic thriller. Twenty-five-year old, Alexandra Van Ness (Alex) lives in a beautiful apartment with her perfect boyfriend, and has a job she loves. She is a child protection social worker and her first and only goal is to save children that are at risk, no matter what she has to do. When Alex and Minerva investigate the negligence of Buster Floyd, she does not agree with the way her colleague handles it. That night while sharing her day with Chase, Alex's sister, Ruth shows up at her door. Alex and Ruth do not get along and there are a lot of buried secrets between them. They have not seen each other in over then years and Alex is not happy to see her. Ruth tells her she is pregnant and Alex and Chase allow her to stay with them. Once again, there are things tat Ruth is not saying. Alex will only allow Rut to stay if she promises not to say anything about their past. What are they hiding and how will it affect their loved ones when it comes out?

I really enjoyed this well-written and entertaining book. From the beginning, I was invested in the story and couldn't stop reading. The story alternates between Alex's and Ruth's point of view. Something happened when the sisters were young that changed their family forever. Roz Nay introduces us to some great characters, some I liked, others I wanted to throttle. I thought I knew what was going on, but was sadly mistaken. There were several twists and the final one took me by surprise. I was not sure who to believe and whether either of the sisters were reliable narrators. There is some child neglect and /or abuse occurring in this story, but it is not too graphic and was necessary in the story. Roz Nay delivers a fast-paced, well-written and atmospheric read. With themes of family, trust, secrets and protection of the vulnerable, this book was an entertaining read. I recommend this one to those who like a suspenseful and puzzling story with great characters.

This is a new suspenseful thriller following the tale of two sisters just trying to keep their secrets, in fact, secrets. This was an enjoyable read, with lots of twists and turns surrounding the mystery of their childhood. I was able to predict the ending, but that didn't deter me from enjoying the book as a whole.

I am not even sure what I can say about this book, that won't spoil it. What I can tell you is that I loved it. The characters were well planned out and the men were easy to fall in love with. This story about two sisters with a troubled past is not one to be missed.

Although I found the start of this book a little slow, it quickly picked up when I realized that at least one, if not both, of the narrators were unreliable. What followed was a series of twists and turns that left you worried for the safety of a few children, and although I foretold the bit of misdirection that brought the house of cards down, I enjoyed seeing it topple on the page.

Deeply flawed characters in a nail-biting psychological thriller-my favorite kind of book! This one will keep you guessing until the end! I loved it.

Alex Van Ness is a social worker in Colorado. She works to keep children safe and place them in safe homes. One day, her long lost sister, Ruth, arrives on her doorstep, pregnant. Alex doesn’t trust Ruth and is unsure if she should help her, but Ruth ends up staying with Alex and her boyfriend. Ruth was running from a dangerous boyfriend, who is now after her. But it turns out, Alex has been keeping secrets. She doesn’t want to talk about their past. Both sisters are hiding secret pasts, that could ruin their lives if they’re revealed.

This was a fast paced thriller. The story moved along quickly, with thrilling cliffhangers at the end of chapters. Secrets played an important part in the plot. Both sisters were keeping secrets, from each other and from the reader. The secrets that were revealed also affected the character development. My opinions of the characters had completely changed from the beginning of the story to the end.

There were some predictable twists in the story. I figured out the ending fairly early in the story. However, this story was still a quick, suspenseful thriller!

HURRY HOME is a twisty domestic suspense thriller that drew me in from the start. I really enjoyed reading the different POVs and kept changing my mind about who I was rooting for, which I suspect is exactly what the author was trying to do. This was my Roz Nay book and I will definitely be checking out her others.

I lived the relationship between the sisters in this one and I was constantly second guessing myself with Hurry Home! Huge winner for me.

Alex has told her boyfriend Chase very little about childhood, so she is shocked and concerned when her sister Ruth shows up at her door after many years apart. Ruth brings secrets, drama and danger along with her, which forces Alex to confront many issues from her past.

I loved this twisty thriller! Each sister tells her side of the story and I went back and forth when deciding who I believed. There are flashes from the past where we find out more about tragedy that occurred in Alex and Ruth's childhood. I also loved that Alex is a child protection worker- the case she is working on and the drama with her coworkers makes this novel even more interesting! There are some shocking scenes, and its even a bit scary at times! Near the end I started to figure out what was going on, but I definitely couldn't have predicted everything.

I would highly recommend this fun read, and I can't wait to read more of Roz Nay's books! I love her suspenseful, powerful writing!

Hurry Home is a book about sisters, how you recover or don't from a traumatic past and has unreliable narrators. With that in mind, I did think this was a well written book, but one that just didn't work for me personal reading tastes. One sister is a social worker who lives with an athletic handsome boyfriend, the other is a former drug addict who ran away from home never to be seen again. Their stories about their shared past are rarely the same, but who is to be believed?
Teasing out the truth behind the words, this story moves along at a decent pace and if you like a unreliable narrator or two, I bet this will be the perfect book for you!

This book is incredible! The story is told from the alternating perspectives of sisters Alex and Ruth who are now back in each other’s lives after having been estranged for 10 years. If you’re a thriller/domestic suspense fan then you should 100% go and buy it! It’s got everything I love in a thriller; a twisted storyline, messy but believable characters, unreliable narrators, dual perspectives, and a huge knock your socks off twist. I was also left literally open mouthed at the very end which I just loved!

Hurry Home is a slow burn you can’t get enough of. The story follows two sisters who have had a tumultuous relationship for years after the loss of their younger brother. The story explores the relationship between Alex and Ruth who despite both struggling to trust one another still want the best for each other. This is a complicated sister relationship that leaves you jumping back and forth trying to figure out who you trust. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and couldn’t put it down. I highly recommend you add this to your TBR list because you will not be disappointed, you’ll be thinking about this story for weeks after finishing it!

I hurried to finish this book as it annoyed me. The two sisters were conniving and spiteful. The other characters especially the child protective workers had little backbone. The story was sad as a family struggled with a terrible tragedy and lives were altered forever. The inability to deal with the past had a snowball effect where so many others were negatively impacted. The book was not a thriller but a commentary on two sisters and their twisted lives.

The entire book kept my interest, with proof that unreliable narrators can be good! With dual POV's from sisters Ruth and Alex, both playing the victim, leaving the reader guessing who's side to be on throughout the whole novel. I didn't care for any of the characters much in this book, which usually also doesn't work for me, but it really did this time. I thought I had them figured out, frantically trying to figure out which sister to root for as the novel continued. I highly recommend this book for thriller/domestic suspense lovers!

This novel was a decent thriller though I did predict the final twist at the end of the story. It's a story of two sisters, the "good" sister, Alex who's a successful child care worker living with a handsome ski-model boyfriend in a small mountain town. Her life is upended when her "bad" sister, Ruth, shows up penniless and pregnant on her doorstep. When Alex begrudgingly lets Ruth stay, memories of the past that she's tried so hard to escape, come flooding back and we learn the truth behind the strained relationship.
I found this to be a slow-burning story though the plot twists enough to keep the reader engaged. At times the character development is a little heavy-handed making the final outcome a bit too obvious. I'd say this is a good beach read.
