A great, thrilling read, which will keep you entertained throughout. A good one sitting read, get the nibbles ready, close the door, and read!
A protagonist who will go to any lengths to catch a serial killer, even if it means she becomes the target of not one but TWO. Super suspenseful! Really enjoyed it.
While I know this is part of a series, this was fine just being read as a standalone. The romantic bits seemed a little forced and I think I would have enjoyed this book more without them. That twist though!! WOW.
4 stars
I know what you’re thinking that two serial killers working in the same town might be too much, but Ms. Burton weaves the different stories together perfectly without ever losing pacing. The characters are well developed and I easily fell into their lives and wanted to know more with each page. Overall, this is an great book and one I definitely recommend. FYI: This is the 5th book of the Criminal Profiler series but all the books are standalones.
This was a fantastic book by one of my favorite authors. The twists and turns were amazing and I always really connect with the characters in her novels.
I usually like Mary Burtons novels a lot but I found this one a bit too slow. The build up at the beginning was strong but then it felt like it lost momentum. I had to take a break a few times before I finished the novel.
While I did like idea behind the plot, I just think there was a bit too much going that felt like it was filler more than part of the story. You deal with an abandoned child case with connections to a past case of the same sort. So there is a lot of recaps on that as well as the two serial killers that they are looking for. And while it all makes sense in the end, I feel like it was too much going on for one novel.
I just was not a fan of this one as much a I had hoped to be.
I received a copy through netgalley in exchange for an honest and unbiased review
A fantastic roller coaster ride! Twists, turns, and amazing characters make up this awesome page turner! Burton is a fantabulous author and I am highly looking forward to reading more of her work and becoming invested in her awesomely chiseled characters! Well done and 4 stars!
While the fifth book in the Criminal Profiler series, you could read this as a standalone. The author does a good job of weaving two separate stories with two serial killers into one book. The characters are well developed and you will find yourself in their lives and the storyline. The only thing is that it is a romantic suspense and the romance genre is not appealing to me.
Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake for my advanced review copy. All opinions and thoughts are my own.
Never Look Back is the third installment in Burton’s Criminal Profiler series and it was another solid read. There is several different story lines going, keeping the reader entertained until the end. Can't wait for the next installment in the series. Recommended.
Thank you for the advanced copy of this book.
Although I liked the story there was something I couldn't put my finger on with this book which meant it took me ages to read as I couldn't get into it. I have read books by Mary before, but this was didn't come up to scratch for me.
Great novel as always from Mary Burton. Liked the intermingling of the two storylines and the development of Melina’s character
Beautifully written and I was glued to the e-reader pages the whole time. This is a FBI/Police crime investigation story with two serial killers/murders, lots of suspense and a couple of steamy romance scenes thrown in. I really loved it and didn't want it to finish. It's all about the back story and there are plenty of twists and surprises. There's a distinct time line for the murder investigations by the H/h, (dates and times at the beginning of their chapters - duel POV), then points of view from the murderers, with their time lines not stated. A fascinating read. My thanks go to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC in return for my opinion. I'll be reading much more by this author.
This took me FOREVER to read. Not because it wasn’t good, but because I couldn’t get into the story line with my busy schedule.
I liked the story line, don’t get me wrong; it was creepy and somewhat believable in terms of the serial killer plot line. However, I had a hard time believing some of the twists and things that wrapped up a little too perfectly for me which I won’t spoil here, but those parts really disappointed me.
I was SO confused at a few parts and didn’t see why some pieces of the story were necessary, but that didn’t take away from the enjoyment for me
Thank you for the opportunity to have read this!
A darkly taut serial killer thriller with enough twists and turns to keep my interest until the very end. I found the pace of the novel added to the suspense as well as the building of tension. A great read.
Received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for a honest review. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own
This sparked my interested in Mary Burton and I will read more of her books
Mary Burton continues her thrilling suspenseful writing in Never Look Back, a book about three missing women, two complex serial killers, and the two agents determined to take them down before they become the next victim. I only recently began reading thrillers but Mary Burton has quickly become one of my favorite writers as she paints complex, twisted storylines that thrill you to the end as well as well-developed characters. This book is one in a series but can still be read as a stand alone book.
Thank you, NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me to read an advance copy of this book.
"Gripping crime thriller"
This is my first Mary Burton read, and I honestly didn't know what to expect. Within the first 5 minutes of reading, I was hooked. the storyline flowed and I was able to connect with the characters. The story follows Agent Melina Shepard who while working undercover as a prostitute was almost abducted by a serial killer, and that's when the domino effect of her life started coming together. With the help of an FBI Agent Ramsey. She is able to piece together the details of her past while solving not 1 but 2 serial killer cases.
I am currently looking forward to getting into this series and other back-list titles from this author.
Never disappointed with Mary Burton, you know you’re in for a great read. Loved the characters full of suspense and twists. A great book
